Donna, the answer is nothing in the world. This is the poutage du jour until they find something else to whine about. Consider all that is happening in the world–the protests in Ukraine, John Kerry’s peace initiatives in the ME, the Iranian deal, the confirmations in the Senate, the House’s gross failure to pass extended UI and then consider what the WHPC chooses to talk about. Idiots is a kind word for them.

      • December 13, 2013 at 7:43 am

What pictures would their photographers take that Pete Souza is not already providing? Obviously, they’re looking for negative images from which they can build a storyline.

As Jay Carney said in yesterday’s press conference, the access that the WHPC has is no different than it was for GWB or BC. But now, it’s a problem. The rules and playing field for this President continues to evolve according to the whims of his antagonists.

Talking of “selfies” – their preoccupation with themselves is laughable. These people are elected by no-one. represent no-one – why on earth do they think they have the right to demand from the Whitehouse/administration/President??

That is a very good tweetable point, 99ts, especially when taken in conjunction with the fact that their ‘reports’ do not in any way enrich our democracy.

Morning Chips and friends. Hope all is well in your part of the world. My California son FINALLY saw an ACA navigator yesterday after more nagging than I care to admit. He’s got an appointment for next week to make his final decision–so close to the deadline that he will, with luck, skate under wire. No matter how old they get, they manage keep you up at night. On another note, there’s a big snow storm expected tonight, which is going to make, travel, shopping and all other holiday plans impossible. Time to stock up and snuggle in. Any idea when the president and his family leave for Hawaii? If the Senate finally convenes, there doesn’t seem to be a reason for him to stick around this year. He deserves one year, at least, when he can actually go out with his family. Have a great day.

    Words of Wisdom from Mandela.

“6. “We are aware that the expectations of what your Presidency will achieve are high and that the demands on you will be great. We therefore once more wish you and your family strength and fortitude in the challenging days and years that lie ahead. You will always be in our affection as a young man who dared to dream and to pursue that dream. We wish you well.” — Statement on the inauguration of Barack Obama, January 2009.”

A Ukrainian court has freed nine people arrested during clashes between pro-EU protesters and riot police, a key demand of the protest movement.

The nine were arrested during a violent crackdown on 30 November to drive protesters away from the presidential administration in the capital Kiev.

Amid the international outrage, US Secretary of State John Kerry expressed “disgust” at the use of force.

Protest leaders have joined talks with President Viktor Yanukovych.

Hundreds of demonstrators remain camped out in freezing temperatures on Kiev’s Independence Square, their numbers swelling each evening as thousands of others join them.

Yesterday’s presser with Jay “Clark Kent” Carney was a sight to behold. The jackals were a bit more rowdy than usual, seems as though they were upset that they couldn’t get more access to President Obama. A President that they seem to go out of their way to disrespect and to twist every single word that comes out of his mouth. Both the GOP and the MSM share the same illness, namely jealousy and envy, how else to describe hating him but wanting more of him.

    • 54 mtmarilyn
      December 13, 2013 at 10:17 am

These jackals are getting more desperate. They can’t understand that even though they continue to bash this President the people still love him and he gets work done. The msm and GOP are so caught up in their hated for this man they can’t see beyond it.

Happy Friday everyone. I hope we get out “It’s Friday” video in the R&S. Love hearing the President say “It’s Friday”.

    MINI RANT ALERT:

As far as I’m concerned the WHPC and some in the media are no more competent and no less dangerous than that SA “fake” sign-language interpreter whom they want us to be all outraged about. They are getting paid (I’m sure) MUCH higher salaries and have far greater influence over a much broader range of this country’s population. They misreport, dis-inform, tell outright LIES, while actively suppressing the truth on a daily basis, and yet are rarely held accountable. They are allowed to disrespect our commander-in-chief, and enable and even in some cases, subtly or openly encourage those who have expressed a vitriolic hatred of, and ill-will towards him.

I am sure that many of them have had their own bouts with mental illness and all kinds of hidden (and not-so hidden) addictions to chemicals and other substances. Look at the de facto head of the GOP – Rush Limbaugh, a spewer of daily hate speech and bigotry, with a chronic addiction to painkillers (and only God knows what else we are not being told). John Boehner, the House Speaker is a walking, dysfunctional drunk with severe emotional dysregulation – yet the media rarely touches that subject. Ditto for Chris Christie who has shown problems controlling his temper/anger and possibly has a food addiction – yet is being SERIOUSLY upheld in the media as a potential Presidential candidate. And don’t get me started on the latest media darlings on the Libertarian left – Snowden, Greenwald, et al, who have jeopardized the safety of others with their self-serving, narcissistic, hateful and in some cases, illegal acts, which reflect their own poor judgment and questionable mental stability.

Ditto. I watched Jay Carney’s press briefing yesterday. It was absolutely amazing. The level of immaturity was a sight to behold. The WHPC should really be embarrassed about their behavior. But the sad part is they’re not. Their tone towards Jay was disgusting. I don’t know how much longer Jay can tolerate this BS. Maybe the WH should consider reducing the press briefings to two a week. It’s not like the public is receiving pertinent information due to the medocrity of the questions.

Seems more like a full-blown rant to me with every word right on target. Most countries that have a free press usually have two types of journalism: tabloid journalism and serious journalism with the mority of journalists belonging in the latter category.

In the US it is rapidly approaching the point where all of journalism is of the tabloid variety with limited serious journalism existing, and what there is is now an endangered species.

Inquiring minds may still want to know things, but the media in our country no longer provides any real knowledge.

I have always has a slant eye toward the media…their coverage of the news and events in communities of color has always been suspect in my opinion…but before the advent of cable of new and blogs…there was an attempt to at least Appear OBJECTIVE…but that is not the case anymore…most things are either opinion or a distortion of the facts or out and out lies…

as has always been the case …unless you do your own research or are in the trenches of a particular movement/as a citizen…you are under the radar…as to knowing about things that affect your life in America…because the media will not inform us of things we need to know…this has been particularly true in the age of OBAMA…this is especially true as corporate interests gain more and more control of our media

HF, I lift my glass to you (clink). Your righteous rant is so spot on. I was cracking up laughing yesterday at the spectacle of the jackals whining and obsessing about the lack of access to President Obama. Those Pete Souza photos tell a very different story than the one they would like to peddle. What I want to know is why do they need more access when they just lie, distort and make stuff up just like their GOP masters anyway. The facts always take a backseat with this crowd. They are all gloried gossip columnists constantly looking for material for another takedown piece. Their contempt for President Obama is really disturbing.

Chris Christie reportedly asks Andrew Cuomo to rein in the investigation of the George Washington Bridge closure.

Chris Christie’s bridge problem just won’t go away.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Christie recently spoke with Cuomo to complain about the way an appointee of the latter was handling an investigation into a controversy over the George Washington Bridge. Christie, according to the Journal, told Cuomo that the investigator — Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Executive Director Patrick Foye — was being too aggressive.

At question is whether a Christie appointee —David Wildstein, a former high school friend who has since resigned — had two-out-of-three lanes of the George Washington Bridge closed as political payback to a Democratic mayor who refused to endorse the New Jersey governor during his reelection campaign. The initial reason given for the closure, a traffic study, has since been revealed to have been false. The mayor in question, Fort Lee’s Mark Sokolich, originally accused Wildstein of acting “punitively,” but later withdrew his charge.

Rikyrah, Cuomo would be a fool to do any favors for Christie. The man is a hateful bully and I’ve not doubt the lane closing was done for political revenge. Let it all rip about Christie–he has no business nursing national ambitions.

e Channel News Africa’s is reporting a very troubling past of the sign language guy, with multiple criminal charges of murder, attempted murder, rape, theft, burglary, kidnapping, damage to property. It looks like he only served time in prison for theft, as in most other cases he was declared mentally unfit to stand trial. As this media outlet said, they were able to uncover this info in less than 48 hours. It is just inexcusable that this potentially dangerous person was allowed to be on the stage next to President Obama and other world leaders. Reportedly hired the day before the memorial, no possible vetting or background check. This should be the last time we trust any other country with any aspect of PBO’s safety.

LOL! This guy was supposedly signing for all kinds of events in SA including events with the South African President Zuma – with this sordid history which is so easily accessible. Yet no one found anything strange, not even the deaf /sign language societies of SA, which observed his bad signing at the Mandela memorial? Spare us all. So tomorrow what will they find out about him? That he was charged with pedophilia too?

Also, just so you are aware – this eNCA is the South African equivalent of E! here in the US.

        Hopefruit2,

I find it ironic that only now the truth about the psychopath is made known when all along he has been working off and on for the Justice Department in SA. Something is very strange there. I simply hope that our security guys ask tougher questions when escorting the POTUS to these exotic places, where meurs et practiques are even more exotic. Hope I haven’t offended anyone here.

        • 83 hopefruit2
          December 13, 2013 at 11:56 am

With all due respect NCLB, South Africa is country, not an “exotic place.” PBO was there in June with his wife and daughters and there were no incidents with security. In fact, the US media blacked out that trip completely – except when it involved fake outrage about “cost to taxpayers.” As the SS spokesperson indicated, they took all appropriate security measures and were not concerned, before, during or after PBO’s trip. When PBO visits places such as China, India, etc. or any foreign country, the same security measures are taken.

Right now in the good ol’ “non-exotic” USA, we have mentally unstable and criminally-minded individuals who are HS dropouts being trusted with intelligence information, and paid high 6-figure salaries. We need to spend time looking in our own mirrors before judging others.

    http://www.salon.com/2013/12/13/changes_ordered_for_college_loans_for_gay_couples/

Students in same-sex marriages will be treated the same as their straight married classmates when it comes to federal college loan applications, Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Friday in a shift that reflects this year’s Supreme Court ruling that broadened gay rights.

“We must continue to ensure that every single American is treated equally in the eyes of the law, and this important guidance for students is another step forward in that effort,” Duncan said in a statement.

The Education Department also revised its required Free Application for Federal Student Aid to reflect more inclusive language about students and their parents. The department said it would recognize a student — and parents — as legally married if the couple was legally married in a state that permits same-sex marriages.

The new application forms do not distinguish between gay or straight marriages.

The department also said students’ eligibility for federal aid would be the same in all 50 states, regardless of where the student attends school.
