    Hi Vicki, congrats to you! Your fingers must not be frozen. ;)

      Dumb luck. Actually I’m still catching up on the last thread.
      I am overjoyed to have POTUS back.

        Me too! That circle on the computer is so slow. I’m signing off I think. It’s not much fun. Finally got my Hubby’s DNA results back. It took so much longer to get his results than mine, about four weeks, I was beginning to wonder if he was from the planet earth. But he is. All European, no surprises.

    Where’s Michelle?

    • January 5, 2014 at 1:03 pm

      She is getting a few more days vacation as an early BDay present someone said.

      Per previous post – FLOTUS stayed in Hawaii with friends (early 50th birthday present from POTUS)

      You haven’t heard Obama Grandma. Our very nice President gave her a few extra days in Hawaii with her friends for a early birthday gift. Her birthday is January 17th, she will turn 50.

        I started at the latest post today then went to the earlier posts. Whoops! It sometimes is a bad plan for me to start on the early posts since it is hard to catch up. Then again I can miss the big picture by skipping ahead like the above post.

    The minute I walk away, a new thread is posted. I detect a pattern here, and I’m outraged.

    So before I have to make Chips or UT appear on MSNBC with a tearful apology to me for sneaking the threads when my back is turned, let me just claim first for the next thread. Now we can happily move on. All’s well that ends well! :)

    Congrats vicki on #1 :) :)

    So I get on Twitter, see something about George Soros being like the Kochs, and the poor soul who tweeted me that decided to follow me. He had 20 followers. Really, get that shit off my TL. Was whistling as I blocked him.

    someone needs to fact-check congenital liar rand paul’s assertions today about Obamacare;

    I could be wrong but I think he is lying in a major way;

    I hope Maddow can double-check paul – her report on his habitual lying was very revealing and kept him quiet for a few weeks;

    but now he is back with fresh lies and since it is polito pushing the story, I think there is more lies behind this but they will let everything pass if they are not challenged

    Good West Coast morning (yes, it’s still morning here) Chipsticks & TOD family!

    So happpy that President Obama and family had a pleasant Holiday and that the First Lady is enjoying additional time in Hawaii.

    I see Idris gave his fans a little thrill – cute :-) but there’s no photo proof!!!

    • January 5, 2014 at 1:48 pm

      Can you post that sort of photographic proof on Twitter? Isn’t it against the TOS? If so, I expect a letter writing campaign soon to change that from the Idris Brigade.

        I bet Chipsticks could seek and locate said photo. However, it might be best to leave to the imagination….reality could be disappointing :D

    This is my backyard today. Yikes, both beautiful and scary.

    • January 5, 2014 at 1:59 pm

      Oh crikey Forus, “beautiful and scary” is spot on, I feel icy cold even looking at that pic.

        I know right? I just went outside which entails walking 5 feet from my condo to the little grocery store hooked onto our building. That was enough of this blustery weather today for me.

        I’ll spend this evening getting psyched up for Monday as I have 5 meetings at the office. I take the El but it still involves a good 15 minutes outdoors and with 20 mph winds the wind chill will be 45 below off the lakefront. I swear I have become a total chicken about cold because they talk about it like it’s a horror movie – it’s not like I can’t duck into a warm building at any time. I’m sure it will be fine and even a little fun as a change of pace. See! I’m already psyching myself up for it!

    before I immigrated to the US, one of my applied econometrics professor was an American who had immigrated to MN from Nicaragua.

    given his background, and the dysfunctional economy in which he was instructing us, he always tried to help us make the connection between economic policy and the politics of the moment.

    He constantly talked about Nicaragua and the role of the Sandinistas.

    that Peggy Noona immediately went to the Sandinista reference, I find it very clarifying of the perceived threat that De Blasio seems to pose to the 1%;

    NY Mayor De Blasio will have a number of privileged people trying to take him down – stay tuned and ready to defend him if you believe in his message of socio-economic equality

      January 5, 2014 at 2:22 pm

      She had to use Sandinista. Noonan is frozen in the Reagan years. That is all she knows and all she is. Those who recycle her nonsense do so for THINKING outside the likes of Noonan is so hard for them to contemplate.

      January 5, 2014 at 2:35 pm

      Nobody sane or sober believes anything Noonan says. Not to worry about her.

      You’re right that there will be an all-out effort to discredit de Blasio.
      One talking point is that his HUGE win wasn’t really a landslide because turnout was not so high. ?????

      On the positive side, all the Media are covering the Day 2 change in rules for homeless families. Even in the Daily News owned by billionaire buddy of Bloomberg, Mort Zuckerman, there were articles and interviews with grateful recipients of the new laws.

      Do not be surprised if the de Blasio Administration is a day by day policy by policy repudiation of Michael Bloomberg’s love the rich and kick out the poor regime.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/05/eusebio-dead_n_4544361.html

    LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Eusebio, the Portuguese soccer star who was born into poverty in Africa but became an international sporting icon and was voted one of the 10 best players of all time, has died aged 71, his longtime club Benfica said.

    He died Sunday, the club announced on its website, without providing further details.

    Eusebio died at home of heart failure at 3.30 a.m. (0330 GMT) Sunday, his biographer, Jose Malheiro, said. “His health was very poor,” Malheiro told reporters. Eusebio was admitted to hospital several times over the past year for the treatment of heart and respiratory problems.

    ////

    As a Child, Pele was the Footballer known by many of Us. Reading this today, I felt some how, that many of Us should have known EUSEBIO, but didn’t……our loss.

    My sympathy to his family and friends.

    He held up his Sons Medicaid card…
    So, that’s his complaint!

    I am so happy for the New Yorkers. I hope they will enjoy the new mayor and all that he and his administration will bring to NYC. I like him a lot, and hope that he will be able to carry out the agenda for all of the people who need a fresh beginning. Blessings, Mayor Bill de Blasio. HZ
