I'm confused. I thought PBO was "leading from behind." Or was if "aloof?" Oh wait, he's a "bad manager." No? Oh, he's "CONTROLLING." Got it.— (@Chernynkaya) January 07, 2014
As Jay use facts and past events to answer the WHPC questions, they keep twisting and refuse to accept facts. Liberal media my arse.
What the hell are facts, they ask!
LP’s Team lost last night. I feel for him. I cheered for his team when they beat Bama. This time around, I was cheering for FSU.
Sheesh, another Rodman question? This Time from TeaNN. Wow…..we have No Worthy press any longer.
Oh, that kooky Bobby Woodward…
.@sfpelosi Turns out the "scandal" requires a deeply dishonest read of Gates' book by Bob Woodward… newrepublic.com/article/116127…— Allan Brauer (@allanbrauer) January 07, 2014
Poor little Woody! His brain cells have been eaten by hate!
Bob Woodward just like the Grahams of WashPost wanted pres Obama to be kissing their feet. That is their main beef. Pres Obama is self assured and NOT a Needy Fellow.
That irks these people. Now imagine if Dems spoke up more against these baseless attacks? DC/NY pundits would be less over the top.
But the Grahams are gone now aren’t they?
The guy that is married to Ms Quinn is he not a Graham? Oh….Bill Bradley is his name. His son was once married to Martha R. The ABC reporter that moderated the VP debate in 2012 or the the 3rd presidential debate. The righties went after her for Mr. Obama had attended their wedding many years ago.
But I thought Bezo, the Amazon guy bought the paper?
Yes he did just last month or in Nov of 2013.
That pretty much explains everything. Woodward’s anti-PBO bias with his review is the over-riding story here.
For those of us in solid blue districts/states that know their Rep will be voting in favor, you may want to contact the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives to ask them to extend UI.
Tweet to them to #RenewUI and stop being the heartless b**tard party!
I did. Also, I’ll be calling their offices tomorrow, sending emails and faxes.
Well, buzz off, idiot Robert Gates, if you lay a word on our VP Biden.
Damn, these Repubs are classless and self-serving.
What is the play here? Clear a wide path for Hillary? If that’s what it is it will be the 1% versus the rest of us. A little early for this strategy I think.
If you ask me, they are chipping away every day. Aching for a grudge match that serves only themselves.
Can’t disagree with you, Meta. I wish they could be stopped.
Gates thinks our Joe can’t take care of himself. Ha! Sheriff Joe? Look out Gates, you buzzard. All kinds of thoughts are coming to my mind, but I’ll leave it there.
You can always count on Republicans to be self-serving and without an ounce of class.— meta (@metaquest) January 07, 2014
White House: Bob Gates Is Wrong About Biden talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/obama…— Curtis (@cfreelakers24) January 07, 2014
The President deeply appreciates Bob Gates’ service as Secretary of Defense, and his lifetime of service to our country,” Hayden said in the statement. “As has always been the case, the President welcomes differences of view among his national security team, which broaden his options and enhance our policies. The President wishes Secretary Gates well as he recovers from his recent injury, and discusses his book….
PBO pats Gates on the head and sends him on his way..
Exactly, Pf–a polite way of saying nobody cares what you think, RG. Enjoy your retirement.
The White House on Tuesday defended Vice President Joe Biden after former Defense Secretary Bob Gates criticized Biden’s views on foreign policy.
“The President disagrees with Secretary Gates’ assessment – from his leadership on the Balkans in the Senate, to his efforts to end the war in Iraq, Joe Biden has been one of the leading statesmen of his time, and has helped advance America’s leadership in the world. President Obama relies on his good counsel every day,” National Security Council Spokesperson Caitlin Hayden said in a statement.
In his new book, Gates writes that the Vice President “has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.”
Hayden said that Obama is grateful for Gates’ counsel as Defense Secretary, but that he welcomes a wide range of opinions form his cabinet.
From the article:’The President wishes Secretary Gates well as he recovers from his recent injury, and discusses his book.” I LOVE PBO!
yes that is what I picked out as well…hahah…I love how PBO defends his people!
I would have expected better from Bob Gates, I guess I was wrong.

NBC Nightly News with Andrea Mitchell reporting is going wild on the Gates book, unsurprisingly. Mitchell is breathless.
I am sure this is really orgasmic for her!
CBS pretty much too, but probably not as bad as Mitchell. Overall, I think there’s more outright and pure hate for PO on NBC.
That’s because Chuck Todd/Andrea Mitchell are allowed to set the whole political outlook there. I read that Phil Griffin is apolitical, from all who know him, a former sports guy, and he allows his “political director” Chuck Todd and long time reporter Mitchell to set the tone, write the political take on all daily occurrences.
The media will always lead with anything that appears to be anti PBO dotster. Many folks get their only news from the nightly news shows – and these are the folks that the media want to vote in political opinion polls.
There is much racism in the GOP attacks on the President – but the media as a whole is anti the Democratic party – and any of its Presidents because they (the media) are owned and controlled by Republican interests. It is very easy for a democrat leaning pundit to be fired for calling out republicans – it is near impossible for a republican pundit to be fired. Their hate speech and lies are legend – but they are never fired and they never apologize for what they say.
Done. Wrote to my Illinois Rep. Thanks UT.
Can some math wizard (not me) total up the expenses and costs of the Republican House inaction. I’m serious as a heart attack. That figure should be included in every single solitary email, fax, FB, Tweet etc that is sent to these good for nothing POS. Let’s put our collective minds to work and find a nice round number and blast that number all over the place!
We can start with $24 BILLION for their govt shutdown. the wars that were all off the books and not paid for, the prescription drug benefits not paid for, the amount of money they think is fine and dandy as corporate welfare….let’s do this thing…and send them a fucking bill on behalf of the American people they DON’T work for!!

Stock market notches its best year since 1995
The Dow Jones industrial average is up 27% from its 2013 start, helping investors recoup the last of their losses from the Great Recession.
This is really good for those who have investments – including retired folks and those with retirement savings – it would be nice if they all understood that sharing some of this recovery with the unemployed is a really good idea.
There is little doubt that the US is leading the world economic recovery – but spreading that recovery to 100% is proving very difficult, given the current makeup of state governments and the GOP in congress.
My world decided to throw out the government that saw us through the recession without many of the horror stories from other places, and the new lot, following the GOP rules are now intent on giving us the recession we previously avoided! Our markets have recovered but are still well below the highs of 2007 – the only sector that seems to have passed that level is the banking sector – not surprising given the government guaranteed their deposits.

Awww he looks lonely…I think I will just go over there and sit with him!
Probably went in there looking for a little peace and quiet and that pesky photographer wouldn’t let him alone :)
He is just missing Michelle
That too – but also, he has an almost impossible job and a level of responsibility that he well understands (unlike many others in the same job) – and Pete likes to use b/w photography to define that so clearly.
I don’t think he looks lonely. I think he looks focused. Just about the only person in DC that is.
I did not really think he looked lonely, I just wanted to go sit with him lol
Oh, he’s not lonely at all. That’s me behind the curtain. I had to make a mad dash when we heard ol’ Pete rounding the corner. You’ll note, PBO pretending to be reading something. Whew! that was close…..Pete the busybody should learn to knock!
I don’t see lonely. I see a president at work.
It’s funny the effect a black and white photo has, makes a scene look stark and almost melancholic – if it was in color, it would be a case of: ‘There’s our fella’! :-)
I am old enough to remember when all photography was black and white (sad truth) – now it is used to make the impact you are describing – the skills of Mr Souza are many. He uses them all.

New Database Reveals Cost to Run the House
Here’s what it costs to run the House of Representatives for a year: $30 million for Members and staff to travel around the country, $48 million for outside consultants, $26 million to rent district offices, $600,000 for stenographers, $4 million for office temps, $25 million for franked mail, $400,000 for bottled water and $3 million for buffet lunches, doughnuts and pizza.

Exactly. You would think he, more than many, would realize how bad stuff can happen, that people might need a little help from time to time, that things can happen which out of your control. But—-guess he’s just another heartless, selfish Republican. Fine for me but not for thee. It’s just sad that every decency we have for the citizens of our country is a huge struggle to maintain now because of this current crop of soulless, cold, unsympathetic Republicans.
i’ve only read the washington post story someone linked here earlier, and one of the things that struck me was the over-the-top praise of hillary clinton, while at the same time being about 95% negative toward president obama and his incrediblly successful foreign policy. i often ask obama fans who also support hillary, why does that happen all the time – where insane peddlers of obama derangement syndrome praise hillary in the same breath? why does rupert murdoch hold fundraisers for hillary, which he has done multiple times?
i think any democrat needs to answer those questions for themselves before trying to force hillary and her husband upon us all once again. we need to move FORWARD, not backward.
These are very good questions 4more…very good and important questions that should be asked more often.

I suspect Flake’s motives, too!
And trash it is.
Excellent article by Smartypants. . . Hope I’m not repeating someone. ;)
Yes, very good piece of factual rebuttal.
tien le nails it too
Didn’t Patraeus, in the end, validate the President’s lack of respect for him? These people clearly don’t think they should ever be criticized for anything, ever, but it’s okay for them to criticize others with impunity.
Yes, I saw that. Beware the Mac amk. ;) I clearly didn’t know what I was doing.

I think it’s specifically referring to a photo spray in their WH dining area.
How exciting for them! They can photograph PBO and VP Biden eating!!!!! PBO is making fun of them!
This Gates, Woodward fiasco is an indication that the #MIC & #NEOCONSTERS know that President Obama is set on ending not only the imperial Presidency but severely curtailing the #MIC and their avaricious lust for perpetual war.

We can expect to hear A LOT of LOUD squawking as this happens. PBO is taking Eisenhower’s warning seriously and acting on it. I said earlier that Gates really wanted to be CIC….. some SODs have a hard time realizing they serve at the President’s pleasure and truly want to set policy themselves, like Rumsfeld did. Yes amk and tien le…..Petraeus showed exactly why the president did not respect him after he learned what he is.
Am reading Dallas, 1963, and JFK had similar problems with his military, Curtis Lemay for one. I am SO glad the framers put the civilians in charge of the military. I remember how people screamed when Truman fired MacArthur…..he was right. MacArthur wanted to be emperor.
shorter robert gates – Obama didn't cheer for neocon wars and my MIC buddies were upset. Also. Too. petraeus.— (@amk4obama) January 08, 2014
Shorter GOP strategy – blame PBO for the disastrous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan . McCain is showing his usual stupid by leading this conversation.
The more the GOP attacks the President and the administration – the more I remember the horror that the GWB administration inflicted on the world – with the love and support of Tony Blair. The rest of us played follow the fool.
Gates' big criticism of pres Obama is that for him it was all about getting us out of Afghanistan. I say, bravo Mr president!— Steve Weinstein (@steveweinstein) January 08, 2014

Heck yea let’s get out of Afghanistan, the sooner the better.

… I know for some of you it will be particularly poignant.
We humans do know how to be kind, creative, and compassionate. We just need to spend much more time perfecting those skills than we have during the past ~ 250,000 years of our evolution.
Tears are streaming down my face right this moment. I will pass this along to my fellow teachers and more. I have a brother that has battled this his entire life so I know how he feels. We also have a teacher at our school that knew her entire life that she wanted to teach…but stutters…and she forced herself to become more than her affliction and is a wonderful, wonderful teacher. Thank you for posting this…and you’re right. We are kind and compassionate and caring…but that must be allowed to flourish and grow onside of us…and to share that with everyone we come in contact with. I’m a noodle now. So proud of him, and them.
Appreciate your dedication, so much, df!!! Truly admire you.

Thirty-four foreign jihadists have been singled out by rival Syrian rebels and killed, say UK-based activists.
It happened over the past three days in Jabal al-Zawiya, north-western Idlib province, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Meanwhile, activists in Aleppo city told the BBC militants from one of the same jihadi groups, ISIS, had summarily executed at least 50 captives.
A regional battle is pitting ISIS against an alliance of rival rebels.
A coalition of moderates and other Islamists fighting to depose President Bashar al-Assad is ranged against ISIS in several parts of northern Syria.
The al-Qaeda-linked ISIS – Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant – is accused by other rebel groups of undermining the struggle against the regime of President Assad, focusing on accumulating territory and imposing a rule of terror in the areas it controls.
and the clueless mcangry met with these ‘rebels’.

Without TOD the world could be forgiven for thinking the US administration is run by republicans. This is the front page of TPM news – supposedly “liberal” in its political views
Front news page on TPM
1. Rand Paul on NSA spying
2. White house – Gates is wrong about Biden
3. US airforce Helicopter crash in England
4. Cher – Twitter attack on Rep Trey Radel
5. GOP PA Chair on retirement of GOP congressman
6. GOP Memo re empathy to unemployed
7. Sweden anti Marijuana minister
9. GOP on jobless benefits
10. Bob Gates on Hilary Clinton
The only article related to the administration references Gates/Biden – I guess an airforce helicopter crash might be counted
Even the articles which are negative to the GOP – give the people cited a place in the media.
And page 2 is worse
