Morning to you! Danny still snoring? How is the little (?) one? By the way, whoever thinks this Christie thing is going away soon to move to the next shiny object, doesn’t know NY/NJ….this ain’t over till they SAY it’s over and they will wring every ounce of Christie snot outta this thing! Pop the popcorn because this will be here for awhile.

Df, the truly aggravating thing is that people in NJ knew all this before November. They knew he was a thug. They were told he had a hand in the bridge fiasco and they elected him anyway. My Dem relatives in NJ said that there was nothing they could do–it seemed the cake had been cooked and he was going to be re-elected no matter what.

Same with some of my relatives and friends; the concept of you get what you vote (or fail to) vote for seems to escape them…

“Moreover, Korb added that Obama’s generals leaked information to the press to bolster their positions. “There’s no doubt that [David] Petraeus leaked stuff to the press that got Obama mad, as it should have. It should’ve got Gates mad,” he said. “Also, when [Stanley] McChrystal asked for more troops after Obama had already sent more troops to Afghanistan, that got also leaked and put him in a tough spot.”Petraeus leaked documents on Iraq troop pullout plans, while a McChrystal plan for more troops in Afghanistan was published by Woodward in the Post.”

something people may need to watch out for with this Christie & bridgegate: what other local politicians got what in exchange for their endorsement.

for those of you who remember, when Ms. Buono, the Dem who was running against Christie, she made a very deliberate mention of those politicians who had been colluding with the governor.

Could they have been paid off in some traceable way and is there anyone willing to investigate and push this angle?

if the stories about the establishment NJ politicians are true, you could have a number being tainted (including Dems

Tributes have been pouring for a Pakistani teenager who was killed on Monday when he tackled a suicide bomber targeting his school in the Hangu area.

Aitzaz Hasan, 15, was with friends outside school when he spotted a man wearing a suicide vest, reports say.

It is believed that his friends ran into the school, but he got hold of the suicide bomber who detonated his vest.

There has been an outpouring of praise and gratitude on social media ever since news of his actions became known.

There have even been calls for him to receive the army’s highest honour awarded to those who have sacrificed their life for their country, though it is unclear if he would be qualified to receive it as a civilian.

Of course I believe Christie – he’s such a creature of integrity, and a politician who has proven repeatedly that he has the best interests of those he serves ( ) close to his heart!! Remember the helicopter trips to son’s ball game? The snowstorm his people had to dig out from without aid while he worked on his tan? His judicious use of Sandy relief funds? The costly double elections so he didn’t have to contend with Booker on the ticket? Etc. Etc. Such a principled politician – naturally I believe him!

A very ‘GooOOOood MooOOOoorrnnning’, Chip-sticks, Chips-tick, DannyO, and every other TODobot who has already peeked in today, and to those who drop in later!

Can you picture them happening in the middle of winter too? I could never convince the young man to give it up as no ‘sane’ person goes swimming in cold weather! His response -‘It’s not like we are swimming outside.’ /between you and me, Df – at least your daughter became a lifeguard, etc. etc. After he finally quit the swim club, offspring has done precious little swimming!!! So, IMO all those torture hours I put in driving him to training and to swim meets, sometimes eating up my entire weekends, etc, were just….TORTURE for me!/

You sacrificed much for him to swim! Daughter is a lifeguard and pool supervisor so she HAS to swim… Which is great! This may turn out totally unreadable . Strange iPhone things.

No worries, Desertf, I read it fine. It showed up normal on my end.

In truth, re swimming, I was quite surprised that he stuck with it as long as he did. Since I cannot swim my only intent when I initially signed him up was for him to learn how, and once he achieved that goal *I* would have cut him off years before he actually stopped but he kept bargaining for an extra year. So, instead of stopping before we hit the 3 mornings, 3 afternoons a-week and Saturday group, not to mention regular week-end meets (which I found tremendously boring and time-wasting) I was inveigled to continue. Doing the 5:15am drop off, 7:30am pick up, drop at school, head to work, and leave work to do the drop off-pick up for the after school swim session was a royal pain……for me. For him it was hard work but ‘fun’. Anyhoo, as Cookem would say, the lad can now swim which was my initial goal (fact he has mastered all the strokes – with back being the weakest – will be of use to him sometime in the future???? :???:)

Astronomers have measured the distances between galaxies in the universe to an accuracy of just 1%.

This staggeringly precise survey – across six billion light-years – is key to mapping the cosmos and determining the nature of dark energy.

The new gold standard was set by BOSS (the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey) using the Sloan Foundation Telescope in New Mexico, US.

It was announced at the 223rd American Astronomical Society in Washington DC.

    I must admit I am confused about what are the “actual contents” of Robert gates book – different people are pushing different things and angles which appear contradictory;

I guess I am going to wait and see how this develops (of course I have no money and intention of buying the book in question for my self – may be local librarian will see me “eventually’)

      Morning, GCL!
Whenever these ‘hot news’ stories break I always wait to see what’s left when the dust settles. That way I keep on an even keel. I do not plan to buy Gates’ book, even though I doubt it’s as scandalous as the initial ‘news’ tried to make it out to be. The article below seemed to present a more rational review and it’s the only one I’ve taken the time to read –

      http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/08/world/asia/obama-lost-faith-in-his-afghan-strategy-memoir-asserts.html?ref=politics&_r=0

Mostly what I got from it was that Gates wasn’t pleased that PBO (and his Admin) didn’t always go the route he and the military complex recommended, yet he conceded that PBO made some courageous choices.

    • 41 99ts
      January 9, 2014 at 8:16 am

The review that indicated Gates was super negative about PBO – was itself cherry picking and misleading about some of the content. If you can find Lawrence O’Donnell show from last night – he covered it very well

  23. January 9, 2014 at 8:17 am

morning all you O’s!!! It’s an early. but still a great getting up day in the TOD pod.

I knew both Christie and Gates would get caught up in their own ego driven big headedness.

Christie’s staunches supporters are turning on him. Really, this guy didn’t know until yesterday why two of his staffers resigned? He has a big job ahead of him today, if he thinks folks are going to by that one. Put the butter on him, he’s toast.

Gates worse enemy is the MSM who are only focusing on his negative statements about PBO and VPJoe. They are blowing his adversarial role in the administration as a military person way out of proportion, which makes him look really bad. Again, his RWnj real ‘muricans are having problems understanding Gates disloyalty as a patriot to the office of the pres and vpres. He used rabid dogs to advance his book, and now has to shake fleas off of his epaulets.

  24. January 9, 2014 at 8:20 am

I agree with this—-those Christie staff emails sounded like there was already a traffic jam plan, email signaling it was time for the traffic jam (knee capping) for Ft. Lee, that it was a go. And everyone is surprised that Christie has waited this long to respond—–I assume it was because he had to get all his ducks in a row—-any firings or “resignations accepted” could not come back to bite him in the butt, blabbing that Christie has been lying about being outta the loop of the actions of his top staff.

The MSM concocted an image of Christie as a politician who put politics aside for the good of the people of New Jersey… and sold it to the people of NJ and nationally… it was a sham!

Now we see him for what he is… just another petty tyrant screwing the people of his state over for political ideology! He runs the state like a cross between Boss Tweed and a bad episode of the Sopranos.

The state is full of stories about Christie’s “pay to play” machinations… even on the distribution of Sandy relief aid that he doles out mainly to towns that endorsed him. The voters of NJ chose to ignore his record on the issues… and bought the image that the MSM manufactured of him.

There are serious charges being made about disruptions of emergency services for police and ambulances and possibly linking the traffic jam to one death. The calls for a federal prosecutor are growing louder by the day because of it.

Can you imagine what he would do as a President? Any state that didn’t vote for him would suffer… and of course he would deny it all.

            • 62 99ts
              January 9, 2014 at 9:09 am

I have thought the Sandy relief issue would bring him down – it’s always the small things that the big guys try to gloss over that cause the fall.

And as I have mentioned elsewhere – the GOP congress is making sure those who voted for PBO are suffering through lack of funds, lack of health care, unemployment, food assistance – AND GOP Governors are attempting to stop many Obama supporters from being able to vote.

          • 63 99ts
            January 9, 2014 at 9:05 am

That was it – not so tasteful – but very true

  30. January 9, 2014 at 8:38 am

Interesting that after the initial media grab of Bob Woodward’s partisan, anti-PBO review of the Gates book, all in a flutter and a fever to report, the news reporting on this now seems to have gone anti-Gates. Most are awakening from their slumber and saying, “Hey, I’m with Obama on this, I’m anti-war too!” And all are observing that it is unprecedented and unseemly—and slimey– for Gates to write such a book now, while PBO is still in office——and after Obama went out of his way to have a good relationship with Gates, surprising him by awarding him the Medal of Freedom etc.

    • 65 99ts
      January 9, 2014 at 8:42 am

Also gone anti Woodward – he misinterpreted and cherry picked from the book

    • January 9, 2014 at 9:28 am

I think part of the background on Woodward’s characterization of the book is that McChrystal and Petraeus were leaking to Woodward–and those leaks are what undermined the President’s trust in his commanders. The President rightly felt that they were trying to game him and Woodward was part of that. So now Woodward is helping his sources.

  32. 72 99ts
    January 9, 2014 at 8:47 am

I’m a little slow – but is there any difference between what happened with the traffic in NJ – and what Boehner and Co do every day – in retaliation because people voted for PBO?

Never was the debt ceiling an issue with Bush
Never was the budget an issue with Bush
Never did they demand Bush cut deficits
Never did they kill unemployment benefits and food stamps under Bush

The people suffering the most here are the ones that were most likely to vote for PBO

I will believe in the media when they start discussing these correlations and stop pretending that the IRS checking out so called “non-political” groups has any similarity.

    • 73 99ts
      January 9, 2014 at 8:47 am

Folks are being punished by the GOP congress because they voted for PBO – exactly what happened in NJ.

      • January 9, 2014 at 9:03 am

I would argue the GOP plan to sabotage the economy hurts everyone and not just the people who are likely to vote for PBO. Just the refusal to expand Medicaid in red states is certainly hurting Republican voters. They are counting on the failure of the media to accurately assess blame to keep their voters even after they screw them.

The pilot, Lt. Col. James Wilkerson, had been found guilty in November 2012 by an all-male jury in what was seen as a test of the Air Force’s willingness to tackle such crimes. Franklin’s decision to grant clemency infuriated many female lawmakers and activists, who said the outcome would discourage victims from reporting abuse.

Congress has since passed several measures to bolster the investigation of sex crimes in the military and has stripped commanders of the authority to overturn convictions — an outcome of Franklin’s decision in the Aviano case.

Greed has undone many politicians; Christie just won the governorship by seventy percent of the vote. The guy was on the fast track to the Whitehouse, and he had the media eating out of his hand. And what does he do, he tries to fuck over some small time mayor of some small time town. These guys never see the big picture; Christie just had to go after that last piece of crumb.

Africa, this is terrific news. The Dems are right about this being a winning issue. In Pa alone, 89,600 unemployed are adversely affected by the Republicans’ willingness to put politics over people and don’t think those who run against Sen. Toomey in 2016 are going to let people forget it. Almost 90,000 plus relatives and sympathetic friends equals a big vote loss.

I understand what you are saying Africa, but don’t separate Christie from his staff. A subordinate wouldn’t close down the busiest bridge in the country without orders for their boss.

g’nite everyone – small part of me would like to hear Christie speak live – but that will be 2am in my world – the pillow beckons

I’ll wait for the reviews on TOD later in your day :)

    obamacare breast cancer drugs

WASHINGTON — Certain medications that are intended to prevent breast cancer will be fully covered under Obamacare, in new guidance set to be issued by the Department of Health and Human Services Thursday morning.

Women at increased risk of breast cancer can receive so-called chemoprevention drugs, including tamoxifen and raloxifene, without a co-pay or other out-of-pocket expense.

Under Obamacare, most health insurance companies and employer plans must offer certain preventive services at no cost to patients.

I just read that article, amazing. While President Obama is literally trying to fight breast cancer by providing free drugs, Christie is out closing down some goddamn bridge because some guy didn’t kiss his ring.
