Hey Mighty Pamela! How are you? I am so damn tired of cold cold cold. However on a pleasant note, I LOVE Uber. My taxi today to/from work was door to door, nice friendly drivers and $5 cheaper than a regular cab AND only $6 more than taking the train which would have involved being outside too long.

So -35 wind chill tonight. Lovely!! I had no idea that Chicago had become the new North Pole but I imagine it will be a much more convenient centralized location for Santa next year.

Yes, I know my daughter has been raving about Uber for many months… Will never take a (smelly) taxi again! I’ve been keeping an eye on all o y’all in the polar reaches, but there is nothing I can do except watch. When you said you almost ran into Jesus today, I thought, UhOh, that sounds tough! Thanks for the update, you must feel like you are all in a time/space continuum warp?! Keep warm..

    I think I am going to start a petition on the WH site pleading with staff to let the facial hair in-thing leave them behind;

I think this is so suspicious and disgusting—-NBC/WSJ is just out with a new poll on the eve of the SOTU, just in time to blab about it on the day of the SOTU and post SOTU——using all kinds of negatives to describe the results—-“deeply pessimistic”, “dire”, “anxious about President Obama’s performance” etc.—–and every other ugly negative they could dig up. Todd’s handiwork—-I don’t trust any of these things any more—I think they’re all manipulated for a partisan narrative.

    • January 28, 2014 at 1:05 am

I’ve never trusted polling. I believe it’s just one more tool of propaganda. I lived in Chicago most of my life and was never once polled….never knew anyone, who knew anyone who was polled. Lived in a little town in Kansas for a year and was polled six times.

so who gets to do the rebuttal-buttal for the four republican, TELEVISED, pre- and post-buttlals tomorrow? and if there ever is (to my dying day i’ll work to prevent this) a republican president again, how much you wanna bet there will be TELEVISED pre- and post-buttals from the socialists and green party leaders? yes, i’m not holding my breath either…

“the news” has NOTHING to do with ratings, and is now completely 100% a republican propaganda mill. simple as that. keep this in mind when watching the aftermath of the SOTU tomorrow. it’ll all make perfect sense then.

Don’t you know it’s darkest before the dawn
And it’s this thought keeps me moving on
If we could heed these early warnings
The time is now quite early morning
If we could heed these early warnings
The time is now quite early morning

Some say that humankind won’t long endure
But what makes them so doggone sure?
I know that you who hear my singing
Could make those freedom bells go ringing
I know that you who hear my singing
Could make those freedom bells go ringing

And so keep on while we live
Until we have no, no more to give
And when these fingers can strum no longer
Hand the old banjo to young ones stronger
And when these fingers can strum no longer
Hand the old banjo to young ones stronger

So though it’s darkest before the dawn
These thoughts keep us moving on
Through all this world of joy and sorrow
We still can have singing tomorrows
Through all this world of joy and sorrow
We still can have singing tomorrows

Chris Christie’s political future looks to be in serious danger with more Americans believing the embattled New Jersey governor is lying about the bridge closure scandal than telling the truth, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. Christie’s overall standing has taken a major hit in the survey, with just 22 percent of Americans viewing the Republican New Jersey governor favorably — down from 33 percent in October.

Twenty-nine percent now view Christie unfavorably, versus 17 percent a few months ago.

That’s a significant shift from an NBC/Marist poll taken earlier this month, when 44 percent of respondents said he was mostly telling the truth (compared to 33 percent who said he wasn’t).

Christie’s rating have taken a hit across the board, not just with Democrats. His standing among independents and Republicans is also tepid. Since October, his favorability rating fell 35 points with Democrats, 20 points with independents, and seven points with Republicans.

Christie is also struggling with every demographic group and in nearly every region.

    ///

gee, wonder what brought this reversal of fortunes about?

    • 64 jackiegrumbacher
      January 28, 2014 at 7:52 am

So if NBC (Comcast Republican channel) is releasing this poll, Christie’s own party has given up on him and want him out. If they were still rooting for him we’d likely not hear any negatives or it would all be spun as something Christie can overcome.

Port Authority Chairman David Samson voted for a $256 million reconstruction of the rundown PATH station in Harrison three months after a builder represented by his law firm proposed converting a nearby warehouse into hundreds of luxury apartments, according to records and interviews.

Samson, now embroiled in the George Washington Bridge lane-closure controversy, wasn’t the only commissioner with ties to land around the train station. Commissioner David Steiner also voted for the massive overhaul of the station, four months after he secured rights to build a 20-story apartment complex on another key parcel of land along the Passaic River, a half-mile from the commuter train stop.

The votes raise questions about whether the commissioners overstepped ethics rules meant to prevent entanglements between their private interests and their control over billions of dollars that flow through the public agency. The revelation marks the third time this month that the role of Samson, a close adviser to Governor Christie, who named him chairman of the bi-state agency, has come into question.

    R&S material

President Obama will announce in the State of the Union address Tuesday that he will use his executive power to increase the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour for workers on new government contracts, fulfilling a top demand by liberal lawmakers and groups, according to a White House document.

Obama will also renew his call for Congress to pass legislation to raise the federal minimum wage for all workers from $7.25 per hour to $10.10 per hour by 2015. But the president is taking the executive action with no clear timeline for Congress acting on the broader legislation. Previously, the White House said it wanted to concentrate on the legislative route for boosting the minimum wage.

“Hardworking Americans — including janitors and construction workers — working on new federal contracts will benefit from the Executive Order (EO),” the White House said in a statement. “Some examples of the hardworking people who would benefit from an EO include military base workers who wash dishes, serve food and do laundry.”

An estimated 2 million Americans work on federal contracts, though the number of workers receiving the minimum wage would be a fraction of that.

Donna, I can hardly imagine more than a tiny fraction of Republicans watching this speech. She is not a well-known name; people generally turn the channel after the SOTU and go back to regular programming; and most Americans don’t have the patience to sit through that much talking.

Good morning good people. I haven’t commented on here for some time. but still love visiting and spreading the good words about the president and helping spread the facts on the GOP. This site is always an excellent source of info (as well as laughs). Mostly it takes me so long to catch up that I don’t speak for fear of sounding like an idiot.

But coming out of the woodwork to say looking forward to watching the #SOTU along side you tonight. But for now, rushing out the door (per usual)

    Later…
