    President Obama Had Two Major Victories Last Night And They Had Nothing To Do With The State Of The Union

    By DANNY VINIK

    ———————————————

    1. Republicans gave in on the debt ceiling. Just before his address last night, Politico reported that House Republican leaders were privately saying that there would be no debt ceiling fight this time around.
    ,
    ,
    2. Obamacare repeal is 100%, officially dead. Throughout the past couple of weeks, the Republican Party’s position on Obamacare has slowly shifted from repealing the law to fixing it.

    Gorgeous wrap up, NW!

    This new retirement account choice is VERY exciting! After having Wall Street raid and ravage 401Ks and the like, and after greedy corporate interests and corrupt politicians have made off with people’s pensions, it is a total game-changer to having such a robust alternative. The federal government winds up having to bail out the banks and the local governments, might as well cut out the middle man and let We The People reap the profits.

      Thanks, PJ.

      I’m excited about the proposal too, especially after reading preliminary accounts and the promise of more breakdowns on how it will work. Putting power in the working man and woman’s hands is fantastic!

      President Obama truly means it when he says he is fighting for those who can’t afford lobbyists to pad the palms of politicians and buy their way to a cushy lifestyle at the expense of everyone else.

      It reads as poetry JoB – just a brief quote

      The video framed the misty-eyed look of thankfulness of a mother whose surgery was insured just days before her emergency
      and the proud shoulders of a business owner who stood because he raised his employee’s wages.
      It captured the deer-in-the-headlights group grimace of the Republican Caucus, embarrassed and sullen,
      when called out for “stale arguments” and 47 votes to repeal health care.

    The Amazingly Progressive Israeli Abortion Policy

    By Bob Cesca

    ——————————————-

    The contrast between Israeli law and what’s happening in the U.S. with the slow creep of the criminalization of abortion. Here we are in a nation where a sitting member of Congress, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), can deliver a response to the State of the Union and say with a straight face “health care choices should be yours, not the government’s,” while simultaneously supporting a platform that includes government-mandated ultrasounds.

        Well, The MEDIA considers itself Untouchable, even by their rightie BFFs.

        Now had this been a Dem that did this…..this will be the narrative…..that Dems are Notorious for this type of behavior. Look at how they went after AG Holder on the Fox Guy that published Classified information? Look at how the media behaved just on Pete S and his photographic artistic deliveries? Look at how they behaved that POTUS used John H’s Savvy verbiage to describe Wall Street?

        Mass Media in US can’t handle itself. They only see their noses nothing further out.

    I saw a Randi Rhodes tweet earlier re. the alma mater of the Repubs’ star rebuttal artist, Cathy McMorris Rogers. Oh my. I don’t know whether to be horrified or feel sorry for her because her college experience could not have been any fun—-at all. She attended Pensacola (Fl.) Christian College, which must be as ultra rt. wing religious conservative as it gets. There were rules about everything—-only conservative dress allowed, only certain kinds of hair styles (no effeminate styles for guys!), music was restricted, no dancing!, no alcohol and of course no smoking or drugs, no physical contact with members of the opposite sex!, even elevators and stairwells were segregated—to avoid any incidental brushing up against, I guess. Everyone under the age of 23 had to have a chaperone on any get together. Because of the no touching thing, couples who were “dating” were relegated to staring into each other’s eyes for some fun and “intimacy”—–they called this “eye kissing”——and if they were really into each other, really staring, they called it “making eye babies”. And of course—the school was all in on creationism, no evolution or any science type stuff allowed. Etc. This is who the Republicans put forth, one of their stars, and this is absolutely pitiful.

      So not only they are brainwashed by their media machine, they are brainwashed in school. And that’s very concerning. There’s a whole generation of people now who have attended these “universities” and many of them are elected officials, teachers, members of school boards.

      The radicalization of the republican party has been years in the making. The problem won’t go away anytime soon.

    Dear GoBrooklyn and No Child Left Behind,

    I was saddened to read the news, during my time of catching up on all of the posts tonight, of the challenges that you are “both facing.” There are no true words to comfort your fears, pain and heart breaking challenges that are before you. I offer you my words of encouragement, and I will lift you up daily, interceding on your behalf, during my time of prayer. None of us knows what God has planned for us, but I pray that you will hold on to his unchanging hand; He is still a deliverer and He is still the doctor in the hospital room. I’ve tried Him for myself and He’s alright.

    You are not alone, though at times, you may feel that you are. You are loved, you are thought of, and from what I have read; prayers are going up for your complete healing. I am a great believer in prayers, and I believe Heaven moves when people come together, on one accord, praying and believing for miracles.

    Please don’t give up, don’t you dare quit, I don’t believe that God is through with you yet. Your best days are ahead of you and not behind you. When you see one set of foot prints, don’t be dismayed, God is carrying you through the storm.

    **********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
    Footprints in the Sand

    One night I had a dream…
    I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and
    across the sky flashed scenes from my life.
    For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand;
    One belonged to me, and the other to the Lord.
    When the last scene of my life flashed before us,
    I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
    I noticed that many times along the path of my life,
    There was only one set of footprints.
    I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in my life
    This really bothered me, and I questioned the Lord about it.
    “Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
    You would walk with me all the way;
    But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life,
    There is only one set of footprints.
    I don’t understand why in times when I
    needed you the most, you should leave me.
    The Lord replied, “My precious, precious
    GoBrooklyn and No Child Left Behind, I love you, and I would never,
    never leave you during your times of
    trial and suffering.
    When you saw only one set of footprints,
    It was then that I carried you.”
    ~~~~~~
    Warmest Blessings,
    Cindy
      Thanks for being our friend.
      There is nothing better than other people praying for you. We’re not
      getting older, just getting closer to home! Be Still.
      This prayer is powerful, and prayer is one of the best gifts we receive. There is no cost, but a lot of rewards.
      Let’s always pray for one another.
      *The prayer:
      Father, Thank You for each and every day You have blessed us here on earth. Thank You for
      Your tender mercies. Thank You for giving us friends and family to share these Internet joys with.
      I ask You to bless my friends, relatives and those I care deeply for, who are reading this right now.
      Where there is joy, give them continued joy, Where there is pain, give them your peace and mercy.
      Where there is self-doubt, release a renewed confidence. Where there is need, fulfill their needs.
      Bless their homes, families, finances, their goings and their comings.
      In Jesus’ name, Amen.
    GE, TODville, still reeling at the President’s spectacular SOTU yesterday.
    I knew in my heart it would be a kick-ass speech, but it was more than that.
    Call me crazy, but I felt like POTUS’ speech was more conversational in nature than any other SOTU which pretty much set targets for Congress to hit (which were rarely acted upon).
    Last night’s speech was different. PBO directly challenged Congress to action; he didn’t paint pie-in-the-sky goals (e.g., Reagan Star Wars SDI).
    To me, PBO’s SOTU was more far-ranging than any I can recall, a constant series of boom, boom, boom. It was hard to keep up (didn’t help that the “enhanced” whitehouse.gov livestream was at least 5 minutes behind real time, which made reading tweets (from the future) very confusing, LOL.
    “Lame duck,” indeed. Hope the MSM learned their lesson last night.
    For me, this took the cake for MSM cluelessness. Mrs. Ezra Klein doesn’t have an analytic bone in her body; I don’t normally wish anyone ill, but if anyone deserves to be knocked down a peg or two, it’s these two insufferable snobs.
    I was so made when I read this tweet:
      January 29, 2014 at 8:42 pm
      Will believe that these bible thumping rural voters have stopped against their own interests when they actually start voting for their own interests, like in 2014.
  21. January 29, 2014 at 8:37 pm
    One more comment about SOTU:
    PBO clearly illustrated why Dems must not swallow the PUMA and MSM crap they’re been fed right now.
    Only someone like Martin O’Malley or Elizabeth Warren would have delivered a SOTU with similar messages/challenges to Congress.
    HRC would triangulate to appease her corporate donors and political insiders.
    We all know that PBO is a truly historic figure and we will SAVOR every minute we are blessed with his Presidency, wishing it could extend into the new century’s Roaring 20′s:
    And these were funny (IMHO) …
    National media have abandoned Charleston, WV, so it’s no longer “news.”
    See the pic in this tweet (from the linked article) — WV Gov says that residents may have to rely on bottled water for consumption (eating, drinking, bathing (?)) forever…
    • 94 99ts
      January 29, 2014 at 9:02 pm
      The capitalists of WV will never answer for the horrors they have caused until the people turn against them and against the media. It is utterly horrifying that this is not all over the media every day. The current congress members from WV are obvious owned by the corporations.
      • January 29, 2014 at 9:12 pm
        I wonder what’s happening in West Virginia politics right now.
        The light bulb may have switched on.
        You can’t tell residents that they will have to drink and cook with bottled water forever, yet that’s what the Governor just did.
        Manchin (and others according to TOD — I haven’t seen the articles) have backed down on Menendez’s ill-advised challenge to his President re: Iran sanctions. (What were those Dems thinking?)
        No one who lives near the Elk River or downstream tributaries can possibly be happy about the current state of affairs.
      Straight from the George W.
