GE, TOD. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend. A must read (and beat down by one of Israel’s most prominent journalists) amidst all the other things in the news.

“There is a famous rabbinical parable related to the multiple punishments heaped on the Egyptians as they pursued the Israelites fleeing Egypt. It tells of a servant who brought his king rotten fish from the market, for which he was given a punishment of either eating the fish, getting lashed a hundred times or paying a heavy fine. He couldn’t quite finish the fish, begged for the lashes to stop when they reached 60 and ended up having to pay the entire fine. So it is with AIPAC’s all-out support for the Senate’s misconceived Iran sanctions bill that has now been put on hold: it has antagonized the Obama Administration, alienated large swaths of the Democratic and Jewish left and damaged the pro-Israel lobby’s standing and stature. And the bill itself may end up right next to the decaying fish in the garbage pail of history………”

“Apologists for the Jewish establishment will tell you that the Administration exerted enormous partisan pressure on Democratic supporters of the Iran sanctions bill, culminating in President Obama’s thundering threat to veto it in his State of the Union address. The wavering Democrats buckled, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid balked, and the bill was put on ice. By stating that the bill “should rest on bipartisan support and that there should not be a vote at this time”, as it did on Thursday, AIPAC was simply ratifying what had become a fait accompli…………….

Hi, JO’B! Doing my little bit. Came on line and felt an urge to peek into my ‘old files’, then decided to start my VOTE 2014 hints earlier than I normally would (after reading DonnaD’s reaffirmation of support for PBO). Also, I can’t believe that Dem funders (as Axelrod referred to them) aren’t mounting a full scale 2014 attempt.

Hello, Nathk! TY – I’m recycling visuals I think are important reminders for this 2014 election year, with the heartfelt hope that voters will (FOR THE THIRD TIME) show that KOCH money is no match for PBO’s ‘grassroots’. ;)

Mr. Pascrell, Jr it is not ashame that the Senate failed, it’s ashame that the Senate Republicans are once again playing politics and putting their dislike of the President ahead of the people out there who need this UI. That is what is shameful.

Agree and I did respond that “single Republican vote” reminder to him via twitter earlier in the day.

Well said, Anniebella! Bill Pascell, Jr.’s tweet is not telling the TRUTH! It’s not the Senate that failed. Lets be clear, and repeat this over and over again, It’s the REPUBLICAN MINORITY MEMBERS OF THE SENATE WHO USED THE FILIBUSTER to deny unemployment benefits to the millions of unemployed people! ALL Democratic Senators voted to extend the unemployment benefits.

I thought they were one short of approving the vote on it. They need to have the 60 votes first before the next vote to approve it. All this talk of needing one more GOP is believing the same GOP legislators will vote to pass the bill. Sometimes on the real vote those same GOP then vote against it.

They have the votes to pass the bill – needed one more for the filibuster

OG, this is a new phenomena under the Presidency of Barack Obama. It’s no longer acceptable to vote on a bill in the U.S. Senate with just the majority of Senators. Unless the “super majority” – 60% of the Senators – agree to vote on a Bill, the Bill is automatically defeated. In the case of Unemployment extension of benefits, 59 out of 100 Senators – a majority, voted to extend the unemployment benefits for unemployed workers. But, 41 Senators -ALL REPUBLICANS- filibustered the bill and denied unemployment benefits to millions of people.

I must honestly confess my folly in believing that Democrats must not give up the filibuster rule because it was still useful to prevent enactment of extremist right wing legislations. But the way the Republican haters of President Obama have blatantly abused the filibuster, I think it’s time for the Senate to get rid of it. Today, without the Republican filibuster, millions of unemployed Americans would have received the necessary benefit extensions that could literally mean life or death.

Urge all of you, for all the reasons you know, to contact Senator Reid and inform him that it’s totally intolerable to continue enabling Senate GOP to do harm to Americans and our national security via filibuster abuse.

    Thank you!

Plus, this is the kind of “discussion” that will follow Hillary – again – through any future campaign she undertakes. She should run on her own merits, but Bill’s too easy of a target for the RWNJs.

Notice how whenever these pundiots start a new endeavor, they’re always trying to suck in viewers by being pro-Obama? Tells me that they know perfectly well that for the most part, people are on the side of the President.
