At least two-thirds of our miseries spring from human stupidity, human malice and those great motivators and justifiers of malice and stupidity: idealism, dogmatism and proselytizing zeal on behalf of religious or political ideas.- Aldous Huxley

The U.S. Treasury Department announced Monday that it was making some revisions to Obamacare’s employer mandate, delaying the mandate penalty for another year for some smaller employers and phasing in requirements for bigger ones.

The Obama administration had already delayed the mandate, which applies to businesses with more than 50 employees, from 2014 to 2015, but provided few specifics about how the mandate would be applied in future years. The new rules announced Monday delivered more details.

Larger employers, those with more than 100 employees, must cover 70 percent of their employees in 2015 to avoid a penalty. The requirement jumps to 95 percent in 2016.

For employers with 51 to 99 employees, they will report to the Treasury Department in 2015 on the health coverage they offer to employees, but they won’t be subjected to penalties until 2016.

The department reiterated that businesses with fewer than 50 employees, which are not subject to the mandate, make up 96 percent of U.S. businesses. Those with 51 to 99 employees account for 2 percent. Those with more than 100 make up the other 2 percent.

    Did You Know?

That Earvin “Magic” Johnson, entrepreneur and HIV awareness activist who was honored as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History and enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002 was a young civil rights leader who was the President of the NAACP Youth Council when he attended High School in Lansing, Michigan?

Okay, make way, I got a response from Mark Knoller. LMFAO.

    My original response:

    His comeback:

Ok, I may need to duck, but I enjoy the twits of tidbittery that Knoeller tweets out on PBO. He gives us a little insight of the day to day goings on with the WH. No other correspondent tells us what’s for lunch, who was at tee time, PBO sightings, etc. I think he can come of crass. That’s because he’s like the stand-up comic who think he’s funny, not realizing it’s all in the timing, more than the telling of the joke itself.

If he were to stop, how would we ever know when there’s snow on the South Lawn or flowers blooming in the Rose Garden?

No need to duck! :) I don’t mind all of Knoller’s random tweets, but sometimes I get the distinct impression that he tweets to get certain factions riled up against PBO, and to solicit (covertly) nasty responses from them.

        February 10, 2014 at 5:10 pm

I don’t get that he tries to rile the folks who are already riled at the mention of PBO, no matter what. I can’t hold him responsible for inciting folks who are already crazy. I look at it as getting a peek into PBO’s day that I would otherwise not have. We certainly won’t hear anything like that in the MSM.

I don’t give the messenger/pundit any consideration beyond what I personally take from their musings. I also don’t care about those folks who may use what a pundit says as something to get nuts over. Remember, Bush left with a 20% approval rating. These are the 20% who would take a tweet by Knoeller as something sinister, and who are spouting stupid stuff about PBO on the innerwebz.

He was probably a cookbook editor or food critic in his early days, reporting on what Julia Charles was up to. I also think he thinks he’s witty. Either way I don’t know who else is bringing us any insight to the human, normal, everyday, unofficial stuff PBO, FLOTUS, the girls, and the dogs are up to.

I agree – he has hundreds who hang off every negative comment he makes about the President – and that is most of what he says. I don’t see his tweets as informative – they are there to stir – rather like Sarah Palin’s speeches – Knoller’s followers get upset about the privilege that EVERY President has always enjoyed going to this particular President.

          February 11, 2014 at 9:24 am

yet folks can’t wait to post every tweet he puts out right here on the blog site that’s all about the good of PBO. So, ‘scuse me if I hang onto his tweets about the informal stuff my Pres is up to. Where else would I hear about it? When is the last time any MSM tweeted or reported on how PBO spends an ordinary, normal part of his time in the White House?

Who cares what Palin followers think? Nothing anyone could say would make a difference to them. I don’t see negative in telling me what PBO had for lunch, or that he and FLOTUS are out on a date. We give the looneys too much credit and exposure to think we shouldn’t appreciate and welcome hearing about PBO just because they may continue in their hate of him.

I like. Illinois is partnering with The Onion to get more young people to sign up for Obamacare. The first banners which will appear on The Onion’s website are a haha. Spoiler alert—–you need to Get Covered so you don’t have to sell your action figures to pay your medical bills.

Charlie Crist is speaking well of President Obama on the Ed show; supporting Obamacare and supporting the President. This is how the Dems should speak of our President and Obamacare.

Thank you soon to be Governor, Charlie Crist

Just saw on FB that our local NBC station posted hour ago that Iran had test-fired two missiles including one long-range ballistic. I read the comments. Ad you would expect, number of negative ones about PO…God help us with this President, etc.

Gee, who predicted that London was at risk of flooding with climate change? Oh, yeah, scientists.

    • February 10, 2014 at 6:04 pm

Looks like a miserable winter for most of England.

Hard to believe that the “future” climate scientists have been warning anyone who would listen is no longer in the future, it’s here now.

This should motivate Dems on how urgent it is to regain control of both houses of Congress.

Climate change will not wait for us, so Americans must take action now.

I saw a tweet that linked to an article behind a Fortune paywall that said the Koch brothers’ father made his fortune with Stalin (have no info on this).

DETROIT, Feb 10 (Reuters) – General Motors Co’s Mary Barra, the auto industry’s first female chief executive officer, will be paid $14.4 million in cash and stock this year, 60 percent more than her predecessor, the automaker disclosed on Monday.

GM had previously said Barra, 52, would receive up to $4.4 million in cash and stock compensation this year, but that amount did not include what she would receive under the company’s long-term compensation plan, which totals $10 million.

The long-term portion is subject to shareholder approval at the company’s annual meeting in June. GM said Barra’s total is an increase of 60 percent over her predecessor, Dan Akerson, who stepped down last month.

The Congressional Budget Office issued its official rebuttal Monday to the Republican talking point that Obamacare would cost 2.5 million American jobs.

In a new FAQ explainer of last week’s budget report, CBO director Doug Elmendorf, answering if 2.5 million people will lose their jobs by 2024 because of the health care reform law, said: “No, we would not describe our estimates in that way.”

We’ve got some real fun in the GOP race for Gov. in Illinois. The multi-multi millionaire venture capitalist frontrunner Bruce Rauner, who is trying to buy the office, running hourly ads for months now, was going around the state blabbing about wanting to LOWER the minimum wage, which was quite remarkable in its insensitivity, given that he reported an income of $53 million, that’s $204,000 a day. When there was a huge backlash, he said he never said that but of course it was on tape at multiple appearances. Now today we have a top deputy to the state treasurer, who is a runner up to the front runner, filing a lawsuit claiming that the candidate, Dan Rutherford, sexually harassed him and forced him to do political work on state time. The “sexual harassment” part is quite graphic in some of its assertions. And there’s charges that Rauner is behind these charges etc. etc. etc. GOP are a mess in Illinois, as usual.
