bbl …. time to prepare some dinner …
O Gawd, she’s got a new pair of shades, or found the old one from wherever Danny hid it!
Dan-ny! Danny Ooooo!
Ha, ha. ha
You beat me, Chips! I was rushing to do a Frenchy night owl music chat because I didn’t see anything in the queue. But, it’ll be just as good tomorrow night.
Mon Dieu, sorry LL, but demain would be parfait. Merci buckets.
Allo Allo? (Yes, I’m old enough to have watched that show when PBS showed it.)
loved that show.
René: You stupid woman!
And, tonight’s menu:
Slow cooked Cuban pork
Steamed white rice
Cuban black beans
Oh, and amk will be happy. I’m drinking French swill with my dinner.
the blaspehmy!!!! May you be stuck with drinking cheapo-crappo ca vines.
the funny thing is that French wines aren’t that expensive in the US.You can find excellent stuff for a tenner.
Now I too hate you. I paid nearly 160 bucks for 2 bottles of french reds at “duty free”.
Come to Cali. I’ll take you to Trader Joe’s and BevMo. Emporia of all things good and alcoholic.
Sometimes “duty free” is a racket. I bought some South African and Austrian red wines in a duty free shop at Dubai Airport, but I found the same wines at much cheaper prices, even with taxes, at a BevMo in San Diego, CA.
French rule. The End.
And then he karate kicked another player and was suspended for 8 months. The end.
No, no, no, no – he karate-kicked a racist Crystal Palace fan, who deserved all he got, and then he returned to further glory. #Legend. :cool:
LL, I appear to be looking right up the central lower part of a person’s body.
It is from the awesomely awful movie, “Gymkata”. Which is my go to phrase for many different occasions. Because Mystery Science Theater 3000.

is cantana even alive now? what a character…
The last time I saw him he was making commercials for a French beer.
Ah bless, yes!
Acting and beach-footballing these days. Moyes should sign him in the summer, even if he’s 308.
Better than Nani.
That wouldn’t be flippin’ hard.
This is really shallow, but Pres. Hollande could really use PBO’s tailor………
yup. he dresses like spongebob.
I know he has access to wonderful tailors…….the French Gendarmes and the Italian Carabanieri are the BEST DRESSED and best looking police forces anywhere. I think they choose for height, build, looks, and then fit them up in magnificent uniforms. We looked in vain for a donut-eating overweight policeman in either country. They were a treat for feminine eyes.
Another woman and I even had our picture taken with the Italians…..they smiled and looked gorgeous. I think they are very used to American women wanting their pictures taken with them.
L.A. is also bereft of overweight, donut-eating police and sheriffs. I’ve seen many an officer in the 26 years I’ve lived here, and both men and women have been trim and fit.

:shock: You noticed me! The mosquitoes finally woke you up, eh?
muskies are my best gf’s now.
Yea, I noticed (ever since my demand for a more meaningful travel gift) that you have been trying to replace me. Hope they don’t bleed you dry.
But they are. I’m their personal BB now.
I suppose there is merit in your being a healthy lifeline, a personal resource! Good for them you!
Are you their meal of choice from within your group? I went to the islands one summer with cousins, aunt and uncle a few years back, and darned if the mosquies didn’t choose me out of the lot! Relatives claimed they sensed ‘new’ blood. :roll:
see? I’m not the only one to nitpick on you.
True. Very true. :grin:
Ok. gotta run. (before vc comes back).
All right all, settling in for the night. See everyone on the flip.
No matter how well intended, hearing so many people use the word “courage” relating to the fact Michael Sam came out as a gay man just makes my skin boil. We shouldn’t need courage for any of this in 2014.
And we shouldn’t still be addressing these issues. But, of course, we all know this.

And I still wonder how much the Insurance pays – compared to how much the dr/hospital puts on the bill.
I had a hospital bill for a five-week stay a few years back for $200,000 (no surgery; just tests and brain scans up the wazoo – not literally – and IVs). My (federal retiree group plan) insurance paid all but $200 – which might have been a deductible / I forget. Of course, a gazillion other bills arrived after that, from every medical person who breathed the same air I did during the time I was in the hospital, and I owed a relatively small chunk of most! This was before I was eligible for Medicare, too. My mother (with private insurance and Medicare) was in the hospital once for a week or two, and her hospital bill was fully covered. Depends on what kind of insurance you have, obviously.
For 200 K, they should make a brand new you.
They kinda did. :) I went in with lesions – from a rare, aggressive infection – on several organs, including two on my brain, totally out of it. One of them was near where the spinal fluid is kept and, if it had burst, I wouldn’t be writing this right now! Had a team of five specialists, including a neurosurgeon, and it took them a while to reach consensus on what I had, it was so rare. They cured me STRICTLY with antibiotics – no biopsies; no surgery. When I left the hospital, I had to continue to take 3,000 mg a day for six months, and continue with regular brain scans as an out-patient. When the neurosurgeon finally told me the lesions were “resolved,” I told him, “I like you, doctor, really I do. I’ve told all my friends about you. And now I never want to see your face again.” He got it!
Off I go to try to talk myself into going to sleep, again!
I’m sure the bills are covered – but do you know exactly what the insurance pays – I have heard stories of $200,000 bills being settled by insurance companies for 25% of that.
In my world – basic bed in a private hospital is billed at $500-600 per day. I believe there is also a government subsidy (no-one ever seems to tell us) that makes it up to $1000 per day – so your 4 weeks would be about $30,000. I am sure our nursing staff is probably paid more than the US Staff so I will never understand how a hospital can charge $50,000 per week – nowhere else in the world. These are the areas where the govt should be looking to save the countries millions – if not billions.
It would be really good if all these costs/payments were detailed – I find getting the facts from our govt and my health insurance very difficult.
I got fully detailed bills a mile high, showing exactly what was covered and how much was paid (more information than you’d ever want to know about anything ever, following that experience). There’s an acceptable/approved charge for everything outlined, and sometimes there’s an overage which the patient pays, if it fits certain criteria. (None of this I’m writing is in correct health care insurance jargon, I’m sure.) Depends on the type insurance you select and are willing to pay for – there are a gazillion choices and several levels of coverage.
I know all the care I received saved my life, so I was one happy discharged patient.
Obviously, all I can say is that I’m delighted you received the care you did and are here with all of us to share it, Jacqueline. Thank you.
Well, nice to be greeted by that comment, this afternoon, Bob! Thank YOU.
Glad you are home, Jacquelineoboomer.
Thanks – anything’s possible! We can get through anything – all we need is hope.

Kid story to finish my night off with, and I’ll add something for all you fine TODers (you’re welcome, in advance). Before going to sleep earlier, my 3-y/o great grandson wanted to watch Mickey Mouse. I told him I used to watch Mickey when I was little. He smiled. (Probably thought to himself, “She once was little?”) He said, “Who turned on the TV for you?” And I told him my Mommy had. He said, “I want to go to her house and see her turn on the TV.” I had to explain that she was in heaven, but that she would have loved him if she knew him! I damn near cried, mostly because I’m so lucky to now be our family’s matriarch (oh, look, a title!) with her own Mickey Mouse story.
Here’s what I’ll share. This song apparently appears on all the current episodes of Mickey Mouse’s clubhouse. Fair warning – if you hear it, it’ll be in your head forever (it’s in my head as I write this – eek!). Special note to VC, for the morning: good cycling song, y’all!
memories – we were at Disneyworld for the 50th birthday party for Mickey mouse and watched the Main street electrical parade – I was not a child but was utterly entranced. The music was magic.
We were then in a 1 hour traffic jam (at 2am) trying to get to our hotel – 5 miles away

so Washington Post is reporting that PBO is launching an initiative targeting minority men – this is a great thing and could be reported as such;
but read through the first statement/paragraph and the Washington Post can’t help but twist the reporting of this by stating that PBO is launching initiative because he has been criticized!!!
really? given all we know about the history of the First Couple, where they have been since they were younger, and WHY they went into politics, couldn’t they just balance this out as a possible reason for the initiative;
hope others can help Wash Post to correct this better than I can;
Obama to launch My Brother's Keeper initiative to keep young men of color out of poverty, prison washingtonpost.com/politics/presi…— (@rosierifka) February 11, 2014
it seems PBO-negativity is always the motive;
@rosierifka couldn't @washingtonpost write this story without the criticism bit? ALL his public life, PBO has served ppl at the margins— Linda Kyambadde (@globalcitizenln) February 11, 2014
bias seems automatic with the beltway;
@rosierifka @washingtonpost this is a great initiative being launched by PBO; but somehow beltway can't help twisting it 2 assign -ve motive— Linda Kyambadde (@globalcitizenln) February 11, 2014
they do this so often that they seem to not even notice when this bias happens;
@rosierifka @washingtonpost couldn't history of First Couple, since they were younger, balance this out as a possible reason 4 initiative— Linda Kyambadde (@globalcitizenln) February 11, 2014
okay enough about my rant
Rant on Linda – they ALL do it ALL the time. Everyone except the President does all the right things as far as the US media is concerned.
it just gets tiring!
everyone in the beltway bubble appears to be a PBO-psychologist and of course, it is the negative slant and always double-guessing PBO’s sincerity;
and after pushing negative stories about PBO’s sincerity & character, they will promptly do a “poll about PBO’s trustworthiness” and then push the negative results they find
I’m always amazed that the President keeps on keeping on. He seems to have reservoirs of strength rarely seen in mere mortals
Wonder if The Pope will be criticized by all those who criticized PBO, during the 2008 campaign, for using the word “Cling” in this tweet;
I greet all those who are sick and suffering. Christ Crucified is with you; cling to him!— Pope Francis (@Pontifex) February 11, 2014
my attention to “the word” was drawn to it by this tweet:
