The snow meme was fun, but I’d like to start another one and hope it will trend on Valentine’s day:
#iHeartObamacare. Please take a selfie with your homemade valentine telling one reason why you love Obamacare.

    Here’s one of mine:

Hey Meta and everyone. Meta how does this work?

      • February 13, 2014 at 5:15 pm

If they get 218 (or more) signatures they can force Boehner to bring it to a vote, COS.

Send the House Dems and Leader Pelosi much encouragement and congratulations – and, if your CD is “represented” by a GOPer, call’um and press them to sign the petition and inform them you will be holding them accountable if they don’t.

        YES WE MUST

“A discharge petition is a means of bringing a bill out of committee and to the floor for consideration without a report from the committee and usually without cooperation of the leadership. Discharge petitions are most often associated with the U.S. House of Representatives, though many state legislatures have similar procedures. They are used when the chair of a committee refuses to place a bill or resolution on the Committee’s agenda; by never reporting a bill, the matter will never leave the committee, and the full House will not be able to consider it. A successful petition “discharges” the committee from further consideration of a bill or resolution and brings it directly to the floor. The discharge petition, and the threat of one, gives more power to individual members of the House and usurps a small amount of power from the leadership and committee chairs. The modern discharge petition requires the signature of an absolute majority of House members (218 members). Only twice has it been used successfully on major legislation in recent history.”

Two years ago, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell took to the Senate floor to deride President Barack Obama for a speech that called for developing biofuel from algae — dismissing it as nothing more than a “pipe dream.”

“I think the American people realize that a president who’s out there talking about algae when they’re having to choose between whether to buy groceries or to fill up the tank is the one who’s out of touch,” McConnell thundered.

But a few years earlier, McConnell himself worked to obtain a $30 million grant for a company that wanted to build a plant in Springfield, Ky., to turn algae, switchgrass, corn cobs and other such materials into ethanol — a plant that ultimately was never built and a grant that was never spent.

And each time McConnell interceded on behalf of the Nicholasville-based company Alltech or the federal government took action to help, its founder and president wrote a check to McConnell’s campaign or the Republican Party of Kentucky.

Bob, I just read this article and the comments and learned something I couldn’t haave put into words myself.
Reagan was transformational and POTUS’ plan all along was to transform us back to what we were before Reagan.

My take is that in1981—-The Air traffic Controllers strike that Reagan broke was the the beginning of the end for the middle class.

By the time the second term is completed America will have recovered from Reagan, Bush and Clinton. This is what Spandan was saying, isn’t it?

      • February 13, 2014 at 7:21 pm

Vicki, yes, Spandan’s comments (not the essay itself) is clear re: the fundamental transformational nature of Pres Reagan and President Obama’s recognition of it and masterful transformational enlightenment – establishing the essential roll of government in protecting and expanding the ‘public good’ – for ALL the people, not a few.

“And isn’t that what the bottom-line difference is between conservatives and liberals on the role of government? Reagan was transofrmative for conservatives, and Obama for us, not just by turning back the tides of Reaganism but by actually re-asserting the essential nature of the people’s government in people’s lives.”

Those of us alive and aware of the implications of Reagan’s attack on the Air Traffic Controllers understood that he was hell bent on enabling the wealthy at the expense of most Americans.

        #TrustBarack …. or Get ROLLED (or swatted ;) )

          February 13, 2014 at 8:03 pm

So glad many other people are realizing these facts about Reagan. We knew at the time how dangerous for the country Reagan’s action was re: air traffic controllers. This was his opening foray, and yes we are still paying for him.
The comments after that article were great, and expressed what my husband and I have discussed many times. People just don’t LISTEN to PBO…….they didn’t wait to hear everything he said in that Ralston interview about Reagan as transformative…..they jumped and thought he was going to do what Reagan did. I just get angry with people because they don’t listen to him, but make up their minds before he speaks and react stupidly.

I loved what someone said about the difference between Clinton and Obama: he wanted to be president, to be president. Obama had a plan and vision of where the country needed to go and knew that only by becoming president could he accomplish what he knew had to happen to save our country. Thank you PBO for making the personal sacrifices to do this.

As my husband says simply: He’s a great man. I trust him.

          • February 13, 2014 at 9:17 pm

Remember in the Primary in 2008 when Hillary criticized Obama was saying Reagan was a great President? Just like you said they did not listen to what he was saying, but simply seized on words they could exploit against him. I do not believe a lot of politicians have their own beliefs. I think they measure the public response and go that way while PBO says what he believes and tries to persuade the public to go his direction. Which is real leadership? Our man, of course. Hillary plays the political game PBO says what he believes regardless of the politics.

Don’t knock it 99ts. It’s news and most won’t cover it. These are facts being revealed while others are offering opinions about the ACA and the murder trial in FL.

Dr. Maddow has been on this case for months now. Just like she was on Bob Transvaginal probe McDonnell. When she diligently starts to focus on a case as she did with Voting, Reproductive rights, Oil and chemical spills, LGTBQ rights, etc she stays on it Come What May. All the other MSNBC Hosts including Steve Kornacki all came to the Christie story Late.

MSNBC in the evening is a lot tolerable than their other shows……….I personally can’t stand Chris Hayes……To me, he is a Weekend Presenter. At 8pm ET…..a Keith Olbermann wannabe, it is Not working.

      • 155 99ts
        February 13, 2014 at 7:39 pm

I’m just amazed that they are all staying with it – despite MJ is protesting about it – and supporting Gov Christie – it still gets discussed – and for Christie at the minute – any publicity is bad publicity.

I agree re Chris Hayes – only time I have been able to watch him is during the Christie segments – which makes me think they must be good for ratings.

I don’t see any daytime shows on MSNBC (other than MJ if I choose to watch) – my sleep time :)
