Sorry, Northeast and Southeast, for all that snow yer gettin’.

Been in Illinois for four winters … this one, of course, is the worst. But I’ve found it may be time to leave, gettin’ too used to it, since when I saw one of the NE cities got 12 inches of snow and were all atwitter about it, I thought to myself, “Wow – 12 inches of snow – we’ve been having that for breakfast.” (Now I know why PBO from Chicago laughed at the D.C. schools for closing during only the threat of a snow storm, in winters past.)

Secondly, no offense, Atlanta, but you’re cracking me up (and I know I shouldn’t laugh – I lived in FL for 17 years and when there was frost on the flora and fauna, we’d all get out of our cars and take photos). Following the first really, really bad ice storm there and the awful traffic congestion and stalled cars and dangerous conditions for unprepared motorists and socialist government snowplowers, I noted that after this week’s ice storm – termed “catastrophic” by the weatherfolk – an image of totally empty highways and byways and a whole city shut down for a day or two was termed “a success.” Again, I know Atlanta’s not prepared because it never gets the snow and ice and it’s dangerous to be out there, but snarkily I ask: wouldn’t a success be cleared roads and everybody out and about?

    Signed,
Hope I’m not banned from the blog now for my sudden lack of empathy where once I was a nice person – must be my log cabin fever – is it spring yet?

Can’t we impeach Clarence Thomas just for being the dumbest f*** on the planet?

      February 13, 2014 at 2:20 pm

What I remember of the 60s is living in the NW during high school and college years. Vietnam Nam protests, unbelievably violent reactions to Southern racial integration making me ashamed of being White, the coming to America of the Beatles and their style music, the extremely tragic assassinations of our President JFK, his brother Robert, and MLK all made aware to us by the media. It was a turbulent time filled with emotion and awareness of situations not being fair for all. The media did inform us in those days. I graduated from high school, college and got married in the 60s.

How in the world can that stupid ass claim that ‘race wasn’t mentioned’ in the 60’s?

If it wasn’t for his color, he’d be an ambulance chaser in a storefront somewhere. He’s mediocre at best. He’s only where he is because he’s a RWNJ black man.

      • 81 jackiegrumbacher
        February 13, 2014 at 3:53 pm

OG, I had just about the same experience in the 60’s only in the NE. Saw the same things you did, and also graduated HS, college and got married in the same decade. And race discussions, racial awareness, racial conflicts and racial violence was talked about and felt everywhere. [I was working in downtown Chicago in 1968, when I looked out the office window and saw a race riot occur.] Either Clarence Thomas has amnesia or he’s deliberately suppressed every negative memory. He could not have been alive and conscious in the 60’s and say that ‘rarely did the issue of race come up.’ He’s a liar or else he lived his life in an alternative reality, unknown to every other sentient American.

In the sixties rarely did the issue of race come up. What was Dr. MLK Jr. and all the others marching and protesting for. This darn clown is sitting on the Supreme Court. Hay Uncle Thomas remember this line, I dream of the day when we will be judge by the content of our character ,not the color of our skin.

And in his mind, Northerners were treating him worst that those in GA ever did? Perhaps, he should talk to Shirley Sharod(sp) and ask her how her father was killed? MLK was from GA…..I am sure that Mr. Idiot was Not born then. His life history stated in 1991….when another Bush imposed him on We The People as a replacement for Justice Thurgood Marshall?

        February 13, 2014 at 2:57 pm

Civil rights and Vietnam were THE issues. They touched every community, every walk of life. Growing up in middle class Milwaukee, there was a Catholic priest who was famous for leading demonstrations, etc. That this IDIOT could make a statement like that should be impeachable. No one that dumb should be on the bench.

Unfortunately…..Impeachment proceedings is Constitutionally suppose to originate from the House. And the House of The Boehner will Never Impeach a GOPers in SCOTUS. Clarence will Never be impeached. So perhaps, Mother Nature would ease him down to the Neverland?

Hey Nena, that reminds me: did this miserable s*** serve in Vietnam?

Found it: “Thomas had a series of deferments from the military draft while in college at Holy Cross. Upon graduation, he was classified as 1-A and received a low lottery number, indicating he might be drafted to serve in Vietnam. Thomas failed his medical exam, due to curvature of the spine, and was not drafted.”

I guess no one talked about Vietnam in the 60’s either.

As I said above, he’s either a liar or suffering from some disorder that produces amnesia. In any case, he just showed himself unfit to serve on the Supreme Court.

I might have to agree with your son. Every time my white friends try to clap or dance to a song, I cringe because they're trying so hard to get the beat. I'm all, it's 1…2, 3…4. Not 1 and then 3.

Truthfully, though, you should see my son’s oldest three (blonde blue-eyed bombshell) daughters dance “to the beat.” Hysterical. Worse than their singing, which they admit. Just for inner laughs, I turn on this song for them and say, “Why not dance for your grandmother?” #PictureIt

Considering the awful weather parts of the country are having, I truly hate to admit this, but here in OKC, it is in the 50s already with the sun shining beautifully. It’s going to reach the 60s and maybe the 70s this weekend. That is one of the good things here. We will have an awful storm, some ice, some snow, wind, then a couple of days later, the sun will come out, the ice and snow will melt, and the sky will be blue like today. Many people who move here from the north and east are amazed at the sun. It can be thirty degrees or less, but the sun will be shining. The cold isn’t awful when the sun shines.
However……we are once again behind where we should be on rain. So…….drought may be our concern again soon.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) on Thursday indicated that he felt Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) did some damage to the Republican Party by forcing the Senate to clear a 60-vote threshold to raise the debt ceiling on Wednesday.

McCain has been an outspoken critic of Cruz. He chided the Texas senator’s plan to tie Obamacare repeal to a bill to fund the government and called Cruz a “wacko bird” in March.

Outside my office, about a mile West of Lake Michigan, there’s a little bit of flaky ‘partly cloudy’ going on. I actually walked outside the office without boots to pick up some lunch at the restaurant next door – and anyone who knows me knows that if there are two snow flakes I will manage to slip on them. I thought I could brave it and there were little flakes of partly cloudy happening.

Can’t take anymore of it. I really can’t.

Okay, I kinda get Mayor de Blasio’s stated, nuanced reasons for not closing NYC schools due to the snowstorm (enormous amount of parents who can’t just take the day off; kids are safe and under supervision in school, so he kept them open, etc.). On the converse, I also kinda get why parents (and not just Al Roker!) are thinking it showed a lack of foresight by him … yeah, okay. What I don’t get is – if you’re a parent and you think it’s not safe to send your kids to school, why not keep them home? You would if they were sick – so if you’d do that, why not if you think it’s unsafe to send them?

I swear we’ve lost some of our individual and collective thought processes or something. If you think you have the facts, make a damn decision like the adults you’re supposed to be.

Think I need a banana popsicle!

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/wendy-davis-same-sex-marriage

Texas State Sen. Wendy Davis (D) supports same-sex marriage and wants the state’s attorney general and her likely opponent in the upcoming gubernatorial race, Greg Abbott (R), to stop defending the law.

“It’s my strong belief that when people love each other and are desirous of creating a committed relationship with each other that they should be allowed to marry, regardless of their sexual orientation,” Davis said to the San Antonio Express-News editorial board on Thursday, adding that she is pleased that the state’s ban on same-sex marriage is being challenged in federal court.

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/brent-bozell-does-not-write-columns-books

Brent Bozell uses his books and columns to rail against liberal media bias and dishonesty, but he reportedly doesn’t write a word.

Jim Romenesko spoke to some people affiliated with Bozell’s Media Research Center and learned from a former employee that the group’s media analysis director, Tim Graham, writes “almost everything published under [Bozell’s] name.”

The former employee also noted that, despite not actually writing any of the content, Bozell still collects 80-90 percent of the profits.
