Pete Souza: Japanese-American WW2 vet salutes Pres Obama during greet today in Oval Office
It’s so rare I feel *your* tap on the shoulder.
And, yes, this IS the pic of the day!
Hi vc back where you belong :)
Congrats vc! Nice to see you at the end of the day as well.
Love those old soldiers. Their respect is awesome.
I do too. They know the real deal when they see it. ♥

Do we know who she is and how she voted? I’m sorry I missed last post.
It sounds like she voted to convict for First Degree Murder.
Thanks. What station is this on? Is it ABC Nightline?
I also saw a tweet that said there will also be excerpts on Good Morning America tomorrow morning.
First, sixth, tenth?
Here, Jojo – what really matters!
…..being with my TOD family is what truly matters and being first don’t suck either : )
Thanks, 99ts and CarolMae. It is an honour to make it through the gate first when Nerdy is in charge; she usually walks in so softly I’m not alerted until minutes later.
Hello, TODobots, one and all! I can’t remember the last time I greeted the entire village – at least not at this time of night.
Is it a special occasion? ;)
Entering TODvillage, especially at the head of the pack, is always a special occasion. You should know that by now.
Yes it is, but you said you were up late, I thought maybe something was going on. We are a must show now that we’re “owned” by Chips. ;)
♥ ♥ ♥
I’m almost always ‘up late’, CarolMae. I really do need to get a life; later; maybe in 2017; if I’m still this side of heaven..
Know what you mean. . . ;)
Were they there for the screening of Monuments Men? Did you see my tweet of a real Monuments man near my hometown?

Congrats VC and 99ts & carolmaewy rounding out the silver and bronze….
/bowing respectfully/ Thank you, Jj.
Thank, honor to be on the podium with the other gals.
I was – as I am wont to do – chatting on the prior thread – when what I should have been doing was household chores.
At almost 2pm in my world I have just realized the laundry is waiting – and then I remember when my Mom used to boil up the sheets in a copper kettle – and I thank the person who invented the automatic washing machine :)
I also stretched myself to turn on the dishwasher – which should have been finished a few hours ago.
Good 99ts, chores can wait til morning.
Oh no – tomorrow I have to go out – which was why I needed to do the laundry today – but I do like being retired – I’ll sort something out in a day or two :)
An absolute gem, thank you soooo much Chelsea girl!
I let Pete know you’re on it, NW! (Hope he stops here every now and then, to see our “shrine” to his images!)
@petesouza We have it – thanks again. theobamadiary.com/2014/02/18/pic…— (@JOBoomr) February 19, 2014
He did answer one of tweet questions once a long time ago.
Was offline yesterday, just now seeing the tweet from @CamelotK re: Hillary appointing Barack Obama to #SCOTUS.
How presumption these f#@*^% PUMAs are!
First of all, only PUMAs and MSM want another round of the Clintons in 2017. The world is moving too fast to have retread ideas at the forefront.
President Obama is both strategic and innovative. IMO (not telling him what he should do, of course), he would be bored stiff on SCOTUS. Too leisurely, not a big enough canvas. Definitely wouldn’t utilize his greatest skills.
I think President Obama will strive to make a difference in the underserved and neglected areas of DC, which has been without a champion since DC became the capitol. He can get the ball rolling and then pass the torch to the young progressive leaders who live in the opposite corner of DC from Georgetown and Chevy Chase MD.
After Sasha has decided on her college location, Barack and Michelle will be empty-nesters who will be eager to get involved in community organizing on a national and global level.
BTW, did I mention I hate PUMAs? LOL.
*not a big enough canvas*
Oh, I so very much agree with what you said there, especially! It’ll be so interesting to follow his path – and Michelle’s path – after 2017. Not that I’m rushing that!!!!
Look at all the wimmin crowding/mobbing/crashing the gate.
Huh, Balcony Bro’s awake.
It’s always alive & awake.
With pizza dribbled all over its tie after it tumbled off the knife and fork
It doesn’t wear a tie. It doesn’t believe in starting the day off by trying to strangle itself. It is smart.
It’s a rascal.
That it is.
:D :D :D :D :D
A darn wonderful one!!! Thank you for the lovely pictures, amk!!
Thank you, Bob.
So rascal, did you have any pineberries in your des(s)ert?
Call me if & when theymakeawineoutofit
You could always be the pioneer who steps in and makes his own wine, then you’d be entrepreneur who markets his product, prolly with his pic on the label
DITTO. Refuse to wear them, much to the annoyance of my East Coast, Wall St, etc., ‘colleagues’ …. ;)
I remember having to wear one daily in my sixth form years! I didn’t mind though. That’s when I learnt to tie one – a skill I’ve since discovered many of today’s men don’t have.
It’s a skill I definitely have and have been meticulously NOT using, for decades :D :D :D :D
‘meticulously NOT using, for decades’
Great picture to see at the end of the day. Brings a smile from my eyes to my heart.
In real life, anyone here ever seen or tasted pineberries? They look pretty but I’ve never heard of them.
Pineberries, which look like a white strawberry but taste like a pineapple. http://t.co/b6RfoNG0v0— Fascinating Pictures (@Fascinatingpics) February 19, 2014
Gimme some of that.
Here you go – you try it first, while I do a bit of research.
The pineberry is a white strawberry with red seeds. Pineberries are actually the oldest strawberry variety. http://t.co/Hw5aJkYnnB— Vick C. (@sonamie) February 19, 2014
‘The pineberry is a white strawberry with red seeds. Pineberries are actually the oldest strawberry variety. Originally strawberries were white in South America and red in North America (known as scarlets). Spontaneous crossings between the Chilean white strawberry and the North American scarlets produced Fragaria ananassa, which is the base material for all the common strawberry varieties we have today.’
We should ask meta for advice!
Borrowing Amk’s favourite adjective for me – Coward!
Nah. I’m not afraid.
So, how did it/they taste?
Another excerpt from my research ;)
“In 2010 the pineberry was introduced on April 1st in the UK. Many media thought it was an April fools’ joke and believed the pineberry did not exist. However when it turned out the introduction of the pineberry was for real, this special strawberry got a lot of media attention.”
No, I just saw them on twitter too. I get a LOT of seed catalogs so I’m surprised I haven’t.
Perfect! Okay, your new job is to search out some pb seeds, plant them in the spring, then invite your nearest TOD neighbours to come for a pineberry feast once they start to mature.
This will be the first year the plants are available in the U.S. And Canada. Not sure if there will be seeds but I’m already on it. I’ve actually grown strawberries and asparagus from seed. Going to plant more this year. And of course tomatoes. ;)
‘the first year the plants are available in the U.S. And Canada’
Great timing on our part! And no, I’m not interested in lowly tomatoes, asparagus, etc when I can have new and freshly grown pineberries.
Here you go >>
‘Beekers Berries receives many requests from people, asking how to grow their own pineberries. Beekers Berries growers therefore, decided to start selling pineberry plants. Pineberry plants are now available in The Netherlands, home to the Beekers Berries growers.’
You have no excuse to not deliver as I’ve now done the initial research for you ;)
Thanks VC, I’m on it.
I found the explanation and source at this website. . .
Good evening CarolMaeWY!! Glad to see you here. Is your eye better.
I do enjoy working the elections. Have been doing it for several years. I am floater for the county. I will go wherever they need me. I like meeting lots of new people, but the day can be long.
GE Marilyn. My eye isn’t really better but I needed support after the Dunn verdict and TOD is a place of refuge. I’ll probably stay off a couple days if I can. I’m enjoying the book. It’s hard for me to listen before my mind starts wandering. I’m not used to someone reading to me. I’m finally making headway in getting an appt. With an ophthalmologist. Take care. Glad you enjoy the elections.
Good, every bit of info helps. :)
Hmm? Nature or Science?
Nature according to our research. Somewhere it said they were the originals.
Serious question: Is our US media covering a nascent civil war in Russia’s “near-abroad”? Thank goodness that Ukraine rid itself of nukes after the fall of the Soviet Union.
‘appy, ‘appy news
Intelligence whistleblower Edward Snowden has been elected to the post of student rector at Glasgow University.
Jesus. I know Scots are notorious socialists, but fuck, Snowden is a libertarian who thinks Muslims should be shot in the balls.
I note a former rector of GU was Ross Kemp, a crappy ex-soap opera actor. They sure pick ‘em.
I’m sorry, Ross Fucking Kemp? Maybe it’s a joke appointment?
And Charles Kennedy, former Lib Dem leader, who I liked very much, but the poor man was so drunk during his reign you couldn’t but bury your face when he began talking.
So, to recap: an actor from EastEnders, and a traitor who is doing his damnedest to betray all sorts of US security secrets are whom Glasgow Univ. though fitting to be rectors. Fuck it, vote for independence.
I know, right? I was a dick when I was a student (hush, Amk), but not that much.
Maybe that’s the result of eating too much haggis…….
“He is currently staying in Russia where he has temporary asylum.”
Like he is currently down the road visiting with Aunt Mary.
And if the Scots vote to break away from the UK – they are definitely cutting off the nose to spite the face – economic/financial disaster – unusual for Scots – but perhaps it would allow them to offer asylum to Mr Snowden.
Scotland is even more dependent on the financial sector than is England. Not a recipe for a sound and stable economy.
The UK government is their major financial support – so good luck with going alone.
Alarming and something everyone should read.
Rachel had a discussion on this tonight
Thanks so much for posting this important info here, Jeff….I actually saw this at the Weather Channel site and got side tracked and never read it….THIS SHOULD BE TWEETED and read by everyone. They are KILLING US for gas and oil. MUST READ and pass…kudos to the Weather Channel for doing the job the MSM SHOULD be doing but never will.
Hello Ms Chips, Nerdy W. and everyone! Congrats on first to dear vc!! Thanks for the great post, hope everyone has a lovely evening!
Thank you, AndoG. Nice to see you!
Sooo, did meta win yet?
Not sure…. last I heard she was far into the lead!

Oh, if only I could RT that 96,000 times!!!
Oh my…..another one who doesn’t know the difference between you’re and your………ignorance on several counts from her.
Honestly Carolyn, I assumed it was a parody account….. but: OMG!
What’s frightening is that she claims to be a writer.
Like Trump claims to be a biz guy ….
Why thank you dear Chips :)
Only in America… http://t.co/lQGpEtUNo6— Men's Humor (@MensHumor) February 18, 2014
My mom had to put my oldest brother on a leash or harness when he was a toddler because he would run off and hide. This was in the early 50’s so this is not new.
Holy crap, 20 dead in Ukraine.
At least … probably quite a few more … another day like the past 24 h and it’s full scale civil war …
Grave concern should be that the next day or two are when Putin’s many beloved Georgians, Chechens, etc., decide to go for the gold in the suicide IED event in Sochi.
There was a story that security is growing lax in Sochi. Really, how did a failed, kleptocratic state get the Olympics and World Cup? Fifa and the IOC have much to answer.
I saw that report, LL.
IMO, the ONLY reason IEDs haven’t decorated Sochi in blood and body parts is because of decision(s) not to do so (yet) by those who readily can – whenever they issue the command.
Where the hell did THIS come from???? I’m sorry…something’s not right here.

Hmmmmm, I don’t want to make any wild allegations, but…… WTF?!
Seriously. WTF!! This blog wasn’t even in the top 3…now it’s blowing the socks off of everyone? I’m throwing the bullshit flag….something stinks in the kitchen!
And when you go to the blog there are hardly any comments, so…….
What to make of that. The whole thing just kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth now….I hope that meta stays in the top 3….but if people are stuffing the ballot box here…it’s gonna be a tough thing. Why can’t things just be on the up and up? There’s not even any prize money…just the title. Sometimes people disappoint me.
I have to admit to trying numerous approaches to find out how someone is voting multiple times – so far – big fail
Wow, that’s interesting! Crazy.
All I could think of was @BuzzFeed —> http://t.co/1JQmn5uMEM— TheObamaDiary.com (@TheObamaDiary) February 19, 2014
See everyone tomorrow. That kitchen nightmare voting has me suspicious and peeved. I need sleep.
the EU: economic giant, political eunuch.

So sad. Really sad.

Wow this post went from zero to 100 in one hour.
