    Did You Know?

Gerald Lawson, an African-American self-taught engineer is the person to thank for that PlayStation, Wii or Xbox you, your friends and loved ones play on today. He is considered a pioneer in the video game world for creating the single cartridge-based gaming system.

His interest in computing led him in the 1970s to Silicon Valley’s Homebrew Computer Club, of which he was the only black member at the time. Though basic by today’s standards, Lawson’s work brought interchangeable video games into people’s homes with the invention of the Fairchild Channel F, the precursor to modern video game systems.

President Obama is such a transformational leader. Today’s announcement means the EPA and the Transportation Department have new marching orders to improve fuel efficiency for big trucks. This is terrific. He’s leaving the Republican Party in the dust fighting like toddlers.

I am neither an admirer of Rep King from NY nor ‘am I an admirer of sen Paul from KY……..however, I found this piece FUNNY

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/pete_king_rand_paul_snowden_clemency_monica_lewinsky

National security hawk Rep. Peter King (R-NY) thinks if Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) can be so critical of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, he should also take a clear stance on offering clemency to fugitive National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden.

“I say Rand Paul has an obligation to speak out now, if he’s going to be running for president while his father is saying a traitor should be given a clemency and he’s inheriting his father’s followers,” King said Monday in an appearance on Fox News. “Listen, if he can criticize Bill Clinton, or Hillary Clinton, for what Bill Clinton supposedly did, then I think Rand Paul has an obligation to speak about [what] Ron Paul, his father, is doing.”

Rep. Rush Holt (D-N.J.) will not seek reelection, the New York Times reports.

“From my point of view, Congress, even with its frustrations, is the greatest instrument for justice and human welfare in the world,” Holt told the Times. “The stories trying to puzzle out why someone would do something else are based on this rather narrow way of thinking that the only purpose for a member of Congress is to be re-elected. I’ve never viewed it that way, and I think everybody who’s worked with me knows that I think there are a lot of things that I can and should be doing.”

Holt, a “Jeopardy!” champion with a doctoral degree in physics, recently re-introduced a “Darwin Day” resolution on the House floor, advancing a proposal to designate British naturalist Charles Darwin’s Feb. 12 birthday as a day of recognition for “the importance of science in the betterment of humanity.”

Linda, we sure don’t need any more Democratic resignations. Does anyone know whether this is a Democratic district? Has Holt left time enough for someone to enter the race? Seems to me this is awfully late in the day to be making this announcement.

I am with you on this, Jackie. In a time when the GOP and Tea Party have accomplished nothing, why would Dems chance having it get any worse by quitting their position risking another GOP taking their spot?

      Dear Donna, just voted.
Now, I am going to try and make that delicious dessert.
If it is possible, can you please e-mail me a list of all of your Did You Know for Black History Month. I would like to share this with my class in Sunday School. Please feel free to get my e-mail from Ms. Chips if she is available.
Thank you so much. Due to killings of Trayvon and Michale, they are asking questions and along with the answers they need to be encouraged.

    Don’t worry, eat pizza !

Less than a week after a natural gas well caught fire and exploded in southwestern Pennsylvania, energy giant Chevron has come under fire after sending out an apology letter to local residents… with a voucher for a large pizza and two-liter drink. The accident left one worker injured and another is missing and presumed dead.

Chevron has not responded to requests for comment, but Philly.com confirmed with the pizza parlor listed on the vouchers that the company did distribute about 100 of them. (UPDATE: Chevron has confirmed that it sent out the certificates.)

“I said last week that I wasn’t going to review Jimmy Fallon’s first Tonight Show, and I’m still not, because 1) I’m on vacation, 2) it looks like he’s (rightly) aiming for a scaled-up version of the show he was already doing, and 3) reviewing a late-night show after the first episode is like reviewing a restaurant after checking your coat. But I was struck by one small, but in retrospect very important, thing that Fallon did starting out:

    He introduced himself.

Not as in “Hi, I’m Jimmy Fallon, and I’m looking forward to this!” He very deliberately walked the audience through who he was, who his supporting stars were, and what kind of show he was going to do. He literally, at one point, pretty much explained how a late-night show works, down to the fact that a host comes out from behind a curtain and tells topical jokes.

At first blush, it seemed incredibly obvious. It may just have been incredibly brilliant.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, said that Republicans have a decent chance of winning the Senate majority in 2014.

“We’re faced with a grim reality that more money is being spent earlier in some of these hot races than we’ve ever seen,” he said in an interview with the New York Times published Monday. “We’re spending some, but we can’t keep up with them.”

Durbin also indicated that Republican senators allowed a vote on a clean debt limit hike to save face ahead of the 2014 elections.

“They seem to want to be on their best behavior in an election year,” he said about the cloture vote.

Durbin is always a Debbie Downer……..why can’t he just be positive . Good Grief

Even the Dems in Kansas are insane.

TOPEKA, Kan. — A Kansas lawmaker is proposing a bill that would allow teachers, caregivers and parents to spank children hard enough to leave marks.

Current Kansas law allows spanking that doesn’t leave marks. State Rep. Gail Finney, a Democrat from Wichita, says she wants to allow up to 10 strikes of the hand and that could leave redness and bruising. The bill also would allow parents to give permission to others to spank their children.

It would continue to ban hitting a child with fists, in the head or body, or with a belt or switch.

Finney says she wants to restore parental rights and improve discipline.

KCTV reports (http://bit.ly/1nKbCjQ ) Rep. John Rubin, chairman of the House Corrections and Juvenile Justice Committee, says he isn’t sure the committee will consider the bill.
