I was looking at the first picture on the previous post and thinking about pictures that have been shared — mostly from the fabulous Mr. Souza — and have noticed a theme during some of his speeches where POTUS appears to be wearing a halo or appears to be holding a ball of light. It is very much in keeping with the aura that surrounds this President.

Morning, Chips, SW and Libra. Today, we get to enjoy 11 degree weather with the prospect of more snow this afternoon, so we will trudge forward keeping on keeping on. One of my favorite Christmas gifts was two calendars–one with big daily photos of PBO and one with photos of FLOTUS. I keep one in my kitchen and one right near my desk. Throughout February, FLOTUS has been smiling at me while PBO smiles at her. So I will draw my cheer from that and look forward to the March photos this Saturday! Have a great day all!! And by the way after much nagging, prodding and nudging, my son signed up for Covered California. So one worry laid to rest.

    • February 27, 2014 at 7:54 am

Good Morning JackieG! As the VPOTUS said the other day, mothers have a lot of influence on their children at any age. You have made his point…Congratulations on influencing your son to sign up for ACA coverage.

I can’t believe February is almost over. And for those of us who do the time change, Daylight Savings Time starts in a little over a week!

      Have a great day!

Had to bring this over….was typing my little fingers off…and I was all alone. (sigh)

Morning everyone:) From Jim Wright’s latest at Stonekettle Station ( A MUST READ….he hit the nail on the head perfectly)

Make no mistake whatsoever, Folks, if Arizona republicans could have gotten away with it, if they could have signed this bill into law and only gay people and non-Christians would have been negatively affected, they damned well would have – that was the entire point of SB 1062 in the first place.

Instead, Brewer’s veto lays bare the hypocrisy of this blighted ideology and shows it for what it really is: hate for hate’s sake and nothing more.

Common sense, human dignity, and liberty did not prevail today in Arizona.

Right won out only because these people worship power and money far more than they love their small and hateful God.

They won’t do what’s right, but they can usually be counted on to do what is profitable.

And let that be a lesson for future battles.

This is the exact point that I made yesterday…..make NO MISTAKE, this is the truth of the matter. Arizona…..It’s A Dry Hate.

I posted on it somewhere above your original post df – says it all – my quote was

… nothing, and I mean nothing, demonstrates the bottomless hypocrisy and the absolute moral cowardice of the religious fanatics who’ve taken over the Arizona legislature than this veto.

      Nothing.
Arizona Republican Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake urged Governor Brewer to veto SB 1062, because, according to McCain, implementation of the law would be “devastating.”
      Devastating to the state. Economically.
      Devastating to business. Financially.
      Devastating to Republicans. Politically.
But not devastating to actual people – especially the gay ones who are apparently not John McCain’s concern. “

It would be like me rewarding my kids for doing the right, expected thing. These people are so utterly offensive to me….the way they lie, and connive on every issue…they literally make my skin crawl.

Brewer wanted the spotlight and the accolades for doing this…it was all for show…..all for the wrong reasons. They all need to go!

          Good Morning TODVille,

I agree wholeheartedly with your analysis. Brewer would have signed the law if the people and the media didn’t talk about it and put light on such a shameful and bigot law. She earned no credit from me, though I am very pleased of her courage to veto the stupid and discriminatory bill.

        February 27, 2014 at 8:40 am

let’s be clear on one thing (and I think history will say so eventually): John McCain is responsible for the tea party takeover of American governance. By choosing Palin – by signaling to the country that any idiot zealot could be POTUS, the floodgates opened in elections. There used to be, before McCain’s traitorous choice, a certain level of education, sober reflection and qualification required for elective office. McCain trashed that. I sincerely believe that, without Palin, the tea party would have remained a noisy fringe but would not have taken over legislatures all over the country.

And yes – Democrats still don’t know how to show passionate outrage enough to quell them. They are still acting as if it’s 1990, with a little more effectiveness on the edges. Our own DNC contributes to this by not standing up tall with PBO and vigorously defending ACA, the stimulus and a host of other issues.

        • 30 99ts
          February 27, 2014 at 8:47 am

57 – I also find him responsible for much of the open racist attacks on the President – also because of the appointment of Palin. Her campaign events collected the people who started the birther nonsense and openly attacked PBO because of the color of his skin. She has jealousy steaming out of every pore – and continues to stir up hate wherever she goes.

My heart goes out to Gabby Giffords every time the media shows a picture of Palin winkin’ at the old fools who support her.

          • February 27, 2014 at 9:23 am

Believe it or not the birther issue was started during the DEM primary campaign by none other than the Clinton camp. That’s unfortunate because while we have come to associate birtherism with the GOP (and for good reason), it was actually started by a Democrat. The stuff with Rev Wright was also started by Dems in the Clinton Camp and promoted by the likes of Huffington Post.

But I agree with 57 that the whole toxic “Tea Party” atmosphere that ensued following PBO’s election and swearing in was primarily pushed by likes of Palin and her associates, as well as enablers in the left and right media.

            • 32 99ts
              February 27, 2014 at 9:38 am

I’m sure you are right hf – I came in late and completely missed the primary – so all of the hate I heard started with Palin – she stirred it up in a way I have never forgotten.

        • 33 jackiegrumbacher
          February 27, 2014 at 9:18 am

I agree, 57, with Palin’s role in inflaming the tea party, but it was the big money GOP who created the Tea Party and lavishly funded the 2010 elections. Palin herself could not have organized that nationwide effort. From start to finish, the Tea Party was ‘devised’ to undermine the president and destroy his agenda. The big money guys didn’t care how crazy the candidates were or what they would accomplish, they were just supposed to obstruct and undermine. The plan worked beautifully, especially since the simple minded legislators they helped elect simply take pre-packaged legislation and pass it like the dimwits they are. Sometimes they go too far, like the government shut down or the debt ceiling and they have to be yanked back, but for the most part the money guys have gotten what they paid for. The DNC has never be very good at fighting, nor have individual Dems with few exceptions. That leaves it up to us to fight most of the battles.

            February 27, 2014 at 9:26 am

Good point jackie. Now that you mention it, I will agree that Palin was simply used as a “hockey mom” front for a very well-funded organization (including the corporate media). She was happy to help – no doubt, but I will concede that she alone couldn’t have done it.

          • 35 57andfemale
            February 27, 2014 at 12:08 pm

It was the CHOICE of Palin that opened the door. It was the perception that any zealot/bigot/ proud-of-ignorance ignoramus carrying a flag and a Bible was Better than the Educated Elites that opened this Pandora’s box. No, she didn’t do it on her own and that’s not what I said. But the choice of her brand of hatred and ignorance as worthy of high office – that was McCain and McCain alone. Yes, the moneyed interests found their vehicle and poured money like crazy. But let’s be clear: these were not ordinary, sane, educated Republicans running for office all over the country in 2010, this was a new brand of Stupid that had never had that kind of stranglehold on public governance and discourse. There were many contributing factors to their immense success, including deregulation of media (Thanks, Bill Clinton!) but I firmly believe that, without John McCain, the respected ‘maverick’ or whatever myth he drew around himself, telling the country that Sarah Palin was worthy of running the country, we would never have had the influx of complete ignorance and zealotry that we have at the highest power of government that we have right now.

yanno Dudette….if all of those things were present in the AZ legislature this bill would not have passed both houses….i am grateful that something was able to prevent such a travesty from occurring….

perhaps we should use the $$$ method to fight other things….it took a year but the Montgomery Bus Boycott helped to defeat desegregation…

My feets is weary, but my soul is rested.”
        — Mother Pollard

Mother Pollard (ca. 1882–1885 – before 1963) was one of the participants in the 1955–1956 Montgomery Bus Boycott, a seminal event in the U.S. civil rights movement that produced a political and social protest campaign against the policy of racial segregation on the public transit system of Montgomery, Alabama. Martin Luther King Jr. recounted in his writings[2] that after several weeks of walking to her destinations rather than take the bus, Mother Pollard was asked if she was tired, to which she replied, “My feets is tired, but my soul is rested.”[3]

It was also told, in Freedom Walkers that she was close to being 72 years old. She was old, yet she had more faith and courage than any other person could have asked of her.[4]

A girls softball team is raffling off a handgun as a fundraiser and some parents don’t think that’s a good idea.

The team mom said they’re simply offering a prize that will get the biggest response.

“When we offer a gun, we’re offering something that people want to participate in,” said April Harrison. “Some people may not want a TV.”

She said they’re taking steps for a safe transfer using a voucher that would be redeemed through a gun shop…”You either have to have a concealed weapon permit which means you’ve already passed a background check, or pass a background check at the gun shop,” said Harrison.

According to the team mom, the Walton County Sheriff, some county commissioners, and Georgiacarry.org support the raffle.

Christie’s minions standing up for him – we will learn soon enough what Patrick Foye knows

    http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2014/02/port_authoritys_nj_commissioners_blast_director_for_criticizing_chairmans_moral_authority.html

“A day after Executive Director Patrick Foye slammed Chairman David Samson in print as unfit to lead the bistate agency, five members of the Port Authority’s board of commissioners sent a letter to Foye criticizing his “harsh personal attack.”

The letter, obtained by the Associated Press, is signed by board members Anthony Sartor, Raymond Pocino, David Steiner, William Schuber and Richard Bagger. All are New Jersey appointees to the board, as is Samson, a Gov. Chris Christie appointee. Samson didn’t sign the letter.”

So not only do Christie’s appointees attack the exec director (who OPENED up the bridge lanes) but they leak said attack to the Press. When letters get to the press that quickly – has to be a GOP leak.

    • 69 amk for obama

        February 27, 2014 at 9:15 am

Like Christie – happy to see the underlings do the dirty work – and Foye did not “slam Samson in print” – he ” told the newspaper’s editorial board that Samson didn’t have the moral authority to lead the agency,” Presumably the paper (NY daily news) printed his statement.

I find the Foye/Samson interaction interesting – and adding the Samson/Rechler (No 2 on the board) emails – even more interesting.

Samson tried to blame Foye for the media getting the truth about what happened. Rechler disagreed. Christie will have to give Foye up soon.

Shares in Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) have fallen sharply after the troubled company reported its biggest annual loss since being rescued by the UK government during the financial crisis.

    The bank’s pre-tax loss for 2013 was £8.2bn, compared with £5.2bn in 2012.

Its shares were down by more than 9% to around 320p. The average price paid by the government in 2008 was 500p.

Ross McEwan, RBS’s newly appointed chief executive, told the BBC the results were “very sobering”.

The fall in RBS’s share price has wiped almost £2bn off its stock market value.

    Here is the kicker.

Despite the increased loss, RBS set aside £576m for staff bonuses in 2013, a drop of 15% on 2012. Of that sum, £237m went to investment bankers.

Mr McEwan defended the bonus pool, arguing that attracting the most talented staff was essential. The best employees, he warned, were constantly being “tapped on the shoulder” by other institutions.

The present lot of bankers all over the world should be shot dead. Let the nextgen takeover.

And our airline – that the government sold for a song – is going down the tubes – big time – and they still won’t fire the horrible little man who is killing it off – he tells us how his pay have been reduced – probably down to about 10 million.

NOBODY is worth the sort of money companies now pay their top staff. PBO should be the highest paid salary earner in the US. Entrepreneurs are a whole different ball game – but most top executives today – simply salaried staff – they take NO risks at all with their own assets.

The government used to own it – they sold it off – At the moment 50% HAS to remain in Australian ownership but the horror who runs it has been complaining about that for years – he wants us to be a country without our own airline – and he is losing money so fast there will be nothing left to sell anyway.
