Good Friday Morning Chipsticks, Roberta…TOD Early Birds/Night Owls/Mid-Day Eagles.

One thing I like is that the TOD Village spans the globe. As a result, TODers live in various time zones…

    ….so I hope everyone will have/is having/has had a FANTASTIC day! :-D

    • February 28, 2014 at 7:41 am

It’s very confusing though swbluega, it’s almost tomorrow for 99ts, it’s almost yesterday for GGail and the westies, and it’s the middle of next week for Amk.

GM swbluega. How is your weather down there? Are you all cleaned up for the snow?. We have below zero again, it’s getting disgusting. No increase in warmth until next week. By that time, we will all be going nuts, I say NUTS in this State. :)

      • February 28, 2014 at 7:58 am

It’s in the 20’s here this morning Roberta, but expected to hit the low 70’s this weekend, then dropping again next week.

This roller coaster ride with the whether is almost as bad as the constant freezing snow and ice in the Midwest and Northeast. Very conducive to catching a cold.

Good morning. Yesterday was such an emotional day, I hope the president hugged his daughters last night and rested well knowing that he had, with no help from Congress, changed the lives of untold thousands of young men. I believe this is why Barack Obama wanted to become president–not for the prestige and the glory, but so that he could help real people–young men of color, sick people with no access to health insurance, college kids, small children and women who are discriminated against in their jobs and devalued by society. He is the only president in the modern era who not only develops and comprehends complex national and international policy, but intuitively understands and cares deeply about every single individual in this country who is not rich and privileged. His presidency has been a test of character for Americans–a test that Republicans, TPs, and emos have failed miserably. Bless you all this morning in this center of presidential appreciation and have a great day.

We truly are lucky and blessed to live in the age of the Obamas.

Hope you have a great day.

GM Jackie…i echo your words so much…

i listened to PBOsspeech along with the moving introduction from Christian….I was so moved by his speech…one of the parts that stood out for me was when he alluded to the fact that although the issues were not resolved….(in my mind…i was thinking Institutional racism) that he was going to move forward and address th fallout of the stats…namely…violence…high unemployment….etc…plaguing blk and latino young men and boys…so while we activists continue to work to repeal stand your ground, voter suppression etc…..he will work on trying to break thru on systemic issues…using…partnerships of gov…community…business

      YES WE CAN!

You are so right and I shudder to think what’s going to happen in 2016. For me it isn’t enough to have a Dem in office, we HAVE to have control of the house and senate too, or all PBO’s hard work will be unraveled. We need to work hard, hard, hard for 2014. I am determined to enjoy this time we still have him for president. I don’t think I’ve ever trusted any president as much as I do President Obama. He continues to be extraordinary.

The MtGox bitcoin exchange has filed for bankruptcy protection, reports say.

The application was made in Japan by lawyers acting on behalf of the exchange and comes only days after MtGox went offline.

On Tuesday, the exchange’s boss said he was working hard to find a “solution to our recent issues”.

Before going offline, technical troubles meant it prevented customers transferring digital cash to other exchanges on 7 February.

Details of the bankruptcy are scant but the application for protection has been accepted by a district court in Tokyo, reported AFP. At the court hearing, the company said it had outstanding debts of about 6.5bn yen (£38m).

MtGox’s lawyers are believed to have decided to apply to the court for protection after US regulators filed a subpoena against the company.

US First Lady Michelle Obama is set to appear on cult television comedy Parks and Recreation.

Her White House office confirmed Mrs Obama will guest star in the NBC show’s season six finale.

Mrs Obama’s cameo, in an episode titled Moving Up, will centre on her campaign against child obesity.

“Time to get real about Pawnee’s obesity… @FLOTUS is coming to town for our #ParksandRec season finale Thursday, April 24!,” the show tweeted.

FLOTUS is an acronym for First Lady Of The United States and Pawnee, Indiana is the fictional town where the show takes place – home to public servant Leslie Knope.

The show’s star, Amy Poehler – who plays Knope – joined Mrs Obama’s campaign earlier this month when she appeared at a Let’s Move event in Miami.

Mrs Obama is not the first US politician to appear on the show – US Vice President Joe Biden made a cameo on the show in 2012.

MPs in Spain have voted to curb the power of judges to pursue foreign human rights cases, after the governing party argued against “useless disputes”.

The doctrine of universal jurisdiction may now only be applied in certain cases, for example those involving Spanish citizens.

It was once used to pursue Chilean leader Augusto Pinochet.

When a judge sought arrest warrants for former Chinese leaders this month, Beijing made a diplomatic protest.

One opposition MP, Irene Lozano of the small Progress and Democracy Union, accused the governing Popular Party of giving in to Chinese pressure.

Amnesty International and other human rights groups condemned the move as a “step backwards in the fight against impunity for crimes under international law, for justice and human rights”.

Harry Reid Slams The Koch Brothers For Lying To The American People About Obamacare

    ——————————————–

Also, in his remarks, Reid called the Koch brothers ‘un-American’ and pointed out that they have to lie to create made up horror stories despite the fact that over 4 million people have signed up through the health marketplaces. You would think that if the law was so awful, and that it was negatively effecting millions of people, there would be no need to embellish, mislead or straight out lie about peoples’ stories in political ads. Yet, that seems to be all we get from the GOP and their supporters.

LH, I wish Harry Reid would start a trend among ALL democrats–elected or not–to call the Koch brother un-American and to tar all politicians who follow their orders or accept their money as un-American as well. It’s time to call these traitors out. They have been subverting our democracy for too long now and people have to start standing up en masse to tell them that our states and our government are not for sale.

Awaiting the First Lady’s appearance on the Today Show. In the meantime, I am being assaulted with the quadruple billionaire Repub Gov. candidate’s ads —-Bruce Rauner—–which are airing every 5 minutes around the clock, and I’m almost not kidding. He is trying to buy his way in, he’s another bored multi multi millionaire, and about every week there’s news that he has given his campaign another $2 million. It’s really shameful. Hurry up Michelle!

I’m not a person that will shed a tear easily, like most men I was taught not to cry, be tough I was told. But yesterday I shed more than a tear, I was actually crying as I looked into the eyes of those young boys that gathered around President Obama yesterday to witness him put a down payment on their future. In my eyes this was some street level business, one brother helping out another brother in full view for the entire world to see. Of all the things that President Obama has done in his time in office, what he did yesterday was beyond anything anyone could imagine; he told a room full of black children, I love you.

    • 46 sherijr
      February 28, 2014 at 8:21 am

Beautifully said, Don… I cried too – all the way through it.

    • 47 anniebella
      February 28, 2014 at 8:40 am

I didn’t cry Don, but I tell you I felt such pride listening to our President and looking at those young men standing on that stage. I just hope this is just the start, and that many more can be reached and help to realize that their life matter, and making something of that life is a possibility. Beside nothing is wrong with a man crying.

    • February 28, 2014 at 8:40 am

I, on the other hand, had a big smile on my face — I think for the same reason(s) that others were crying.

It was a joy to see how the President interacted with these young men and to get a sense of the impact he — and other mentors — has already had on their lives. It made me happy to see the people who were there supporting this program. People from all walks of life who seemed enthusiastic and supportive; not just through financial contributions but by active participation as well.

One thing about President Obama. He is able to put aside the pettiness and can find that bit of good in everyone. So to have an O’Reily and a Mike Lee participate in this effort (trying to see this as a positive as PBO seems to be doing) shows his talent for finding that good and getting something positive from it.

      So yes, I smiled. :-)

You nailed it, this is a skill and an art that our President possesses 10 fold. Also, it shows his humility.. that ability to involve everyone- credit everyone for doing the right thing. His humanity never fails to be brilliant.

    February 28, 2014 at 9:31 am

My takeaway from the First Lady’s appearance on Today—-broken into 2 segments—–FL said they never talk about weight with Malia and Sasha, that they don’t talk about how they look, their emphasis is how they feel. She said that her main concern is if her daughters are happy and safe and are being taught the best values. She and Jenna Bush talked a bit about how “goofy” (my word) it is that more people comment on what she’s wearing or her hairstyle than the substance of what she’s saying, but she knows that always comes with the territory with first ladies, said that if people are looking at her and noticing her that she always tries to stand in front of something important, so that gets absorbed also.

no toiling away in smaller markets, proving your worth through cultivating sources, breaking big stories, showing good ethics for these “journalists!” it is an easy way for the few billionaires who own all the major media to control the “trickle-down” messaging i suppose…just keep it “in the family” as they say…

It’s a thing of beauty HF. President Obama (aka the energizer bunny president) is leaving the elephants in the dust. When he said it was going to be a year of action he was not playing. I just watched this weeks terrific West Wing Week. It’s exhausting to see how busy President Obama has been. Then I compared that to Republican Governor Jan Brewer vetoing the repugnant Arizona law that would have essentially legalized discrimination for the LGBT community, the GOP senators blocking the veterans bill and John McCain lusting for another war. smdh vigorously ……..

  29. 94 dotster3
    February 28, 2014 at 9:38 am

And I’ll add—-I know Jenna Bush voted for Obama—-think she and her sister are Dems just like their mom, if truth be known. All the segments she does for Today, all her interests are Dem related. And she was so complimentary of the First Lady. She said Michelle also filmed the segment for Parks and Rec while they were in Miami—with Amy Poehler—-said it is hilarious. She again stated how much fun it was to be with the First Lady, how very much she enjoyed it, full of praise for her.

don’t mean to bring cynicism to that, but i do feel this is true: what better way to rehab the bush family name? get the young attractive daughters into high profile media jobs, with of course no accomplishment in the field mind you, to be the leads in making the family seem all nice again. notice one of the younger sons is running for some office in florida, and jeb’s showing up all over the place now.

this family has done such incredible harm to america and the world, and it wasn’t just george w. either, that i will do whatever i can to make sure they can never rape and pillage the earth as they have done for generations. we must never forget and make sure future generations know the history of this horrific family. none of them can be trusted, in my opinion.

You raise an interesting point 4more, but I do think that in the case of Jenna Bush (and her sis), they’re more like their Grandpoppy Bush Sr., who actually seems to genuinely like and respect PBO and the First Family. I do recall the Bush girls writing a letter to Sasha and Malia when PBO was first elected, and I didn’t really see this as a ploy to rehabilitate the Bush name for Jeb or whoever.

I think people are wise enough to separate the two things. You are 100% right about the damage done by Bush 43, and by Jeb in Florida. I don’t think that Jenna Bush being civil /friendly towards FLOTUS will change people’s views on these issues.

    This is Ted Cruz…..

Dominion Theology or Dominionism is the idea that Christians should work toward either a nation governed by Christians or one governed by a conservative Christian understanding of biblical law. At least under this name, it exists primarily among Protestants in the United States. It is a form of theocracy and is related to theonomy, though it does not necessarily advocate Mosaic law as the basis of government. Prominent adherents of Dominion Theology are otherwise theologically diverse, including the Calvinist Christian Reconstructionism and the charismatic/Pentecostal Kingdom Now theology and New Apostolic Reformation.

Some elements within the mainstream Christian right have been influenced by Dominion Theology authors. Indeed, some writers have applied the term “Dominionism” more broadly to the mainstream Christian right, implicitly arguing that that movement is founded upon a theology that requires Christians to govern over non-Christians. Mainstream conservatives do not call themselves “Dominionists,” and the usage has sparked considerable controversy.

    —-

The media pundits dance around it when discussing Cruz….

  31. February 28, 2014 at 9:53 am

Good morning, TODville. There is still water pouring from our skies here in NorCal, so YAY!

To be honest, I’m still choked up about PBO’s Brother’s Keeper speech and all the positive response it got from people who have intelligence and compassion and the will to address the issues he so eloquently presented.

    I keep hearing his words, …”If I had a son….”

They keep coming up for me because I believe this is his signal to all young boys that he is there for them, that he feels deeply what they know and feel, that the is committed to helping them through their struggle. He made himself vulnerable at that moment in order to share his desire to work with them in a way that requires a true partnership. And all those young men behind him radiated that sense of grace and pride that PBO knows is possible.

I just can’t believe how incredibly fortunate we are to have this great man leading us forward. And to hear and know, time and time again, that we are STRONGER TOGETHER.

Michelle Obama is the First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS). She is not the First Lady of Black women, or women of color or minority women. She can go on whichever show she damn well pleases – and reach a wide variety of audiences. It is extremely rude and presumptuous to decide which shows the First Lady can or should go.

    • 102 hopefruit2
      February 28, 2014 at 10:07 am

Okay she has clarified her point which was more mocking O’Reilly, and not criticizing FLOTUS for going on his show. :)

        • 104 hopefruit2
          February 28, 2014 at 12:24 pm

Even though we may see it that way (and sometimes I do), I don’t think they see it as “wasting their time.” The Obamas are very nuanced in their political interactions, and their focus tends to be on the long-term win-win end result rather than the process (unlike the Clintons).

PBO’s Superbowl interview gave O’Reilly a bump in the ratings – but it also meant that more people watched BECAUSE PBO was on. Sure, his message might have fallen on the deaf ears of some die-hard haters, but I think it also reached more people who were open to what he had to say.

Well, we’ll see what happens. :)
