    Hello!

  3. March 6, 2014 at 1:14 pm

“A network of community lenders is committing to lend $1 billion in support of President Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative that aims to boost the life chances of young African and Hispanic men. The Opportunity Finance Network, which represents more than 225 community development financial institutions, will pledge Thursday it will expand financing for organizations and initiatives working to help young minority men………. Obama’s solicited $200 million in financial commitments from foundations and companies to introduce programs aimed at keeping young men of color in the classroom and out of the criminal justice system. “Broadening the horizons for our young men and giving them the tools they need to succeed will require a sustained effort from all of us,” Obama said at a White House event………..

Mark Pinsky, chief executive of the Opportunity Finance Network, said his group was inspired by Obama’s commitment and decided to make their own. The network is in the process of contacting all of its affiliated CDFIs to obtain financial pledges, which he estimated would reach $1 billion. He said $300 million of that financing would go directly to benefit young black and Hispanic men, while the remaining money would go to aid young people of color. “’My Brother’s Keeper’ just inspired us to say what can we do to try to carry forward the momentum of this idea,” Pinsky said. “From our perspective it’s important to just say we’re going to identify this challenge and do what we can to meet it.”……………

Donna, I wonder if some of those daily viewers are nursing home residents who just stare at the tv. A lot of tvs just “exist” in homes, airports, bus stations, and institutions of various sorts without anyone watching, especially in the day time. When we used to go visit my FIL in the nursing home, tvs were on in every room and in the loungers, but no one was paying attention.

Turkey’s top court has ruled that the rights of ex-military chief Ilker Basbug were violated, paving the way for his possible release from jail.

Basbug was sentenced to life in prison last year for plotting to overthrow the government.

He was found guilty of leading a shadowy network of hard-line nationalists known as Ergenekon.

The ruling could set a precedent for more than 200 others jailed for their alleged roles in the Ergenekon affair.

The constitutional court ruled in favour of Basbug’s appeal, saying a lower court had failed to publish its detailed verdict on the case and send it to the appeals court, Reuters news agency reports.

This had violated a constitutional clause concerning personal freedom, it said.

Listening to a NPR news article about the Dems voting against the nominee revealing that the police union objected against someone defending a cop killer being nominated. Rather than hurting them their constant presence in the press only leads people to believe that what they’re doing in fighting against Obama is the right thing. There is no counterbalance of positive democratic actions to give people a better idea of how to vote. Without this TOD space believers in liberty and freedom, true believers would be lost.

Van Rompuy: EU to sign political part of Association Agreement with Ukraine by May 25

European Council President Herman Van Rompuy has said that the EU is ready to sign the political part of the Association Agreement with Ukraine by May 25.

“We stand by Ukraine, and reiterated the European commitment to signing the Association Agreement. Today we decided that as a matter of priority we will sign very shortly the political chapters. This means: before the Ukrainian elections of May 25,” he said at a press conference in Brussels on Thursday after the EU summit on Ukraine.

He also confirmed the EU’s readiness to provide Ukraine with strong financial backing.

“We intend to adopt special trade measures to allow Ukraine to benefit substantially soon from the advantages of the Free Trade Area. We remain committed to the visa liberalization process, to encouraging contacts between the citizens of the EU and of Ukraine. We stand ready to assist also on energy security,” he said, outlining the EU’s position on further actions for Ukraine.

Every Democrat or decent R person in the House needs to sign a statement directed at Issa that his behavior is out of line with a civil environment – I personally would just like to walk in Issa’s office, slap him across the face, and walk out (but, of course, I’m a peaceful person and won’t do it) (but I’d thinking about how good it would feel).

Un-American Issa needs to be sent home.

Donna, I hope the CBC is prepared to be relentless on this and do continual and repetitive lobbying among other Democratic caucuses. If they keep at it and win over a substantial portion of the Democrats, then the request can’t be ignored. WASHINGTON (AP) — The oil and gas industry got some prime online real estate for their ad pressing President Barack Obama on the Keystone XL pipeline: The White House’s official website.

Obama held a virtual town hall Thursday about Latino health care enrollment, organized by Spanish-language TV networks.

To give visitors a way to watch, the White House embedded a live stream from the Fusion network on its own website. Fusion’s live stream first shows users an advertisement, known as a “pre-roll.”

Some users tuning in through http://www.whitehouse.gov were shown an ad from the American Petroleum Institute. The ad urges viewers to tell Obama to approve the pipeline.

API has a major online and TV campaign on Keystone. The groups says it’s just a coincidence the ad aired on the White House site.

Not a coincident. The right are always on 24/7.

They have CPAC, They have Young GOPers, they are always using organized events every month or two. The media are eager to promote their activities.

Now NewsMaxTV a 24/7 rightie network is about to be launched. Fox, FBN, CNBC, The Blaze, etc and where are Morning shows spouting Dems views?

“She once met a young boy from a very poor family, and every day at school, he would get a free lunch from a government program,” Ryan said.

“He told Eloise he didn’t want a free lunch. He wanted his own lunch, one in a brown-paper bag just like the other kids,” he continued. “He wanted one, he said, because he knew a kid with a brown-paper bag had someone who cared for him. This is what the left does not understand.”

The Massachusetts legislature on Thursday approved a measure that would ban taking upskirt photos in public after a court ruled that a state law did not already prohibit such photography, according to the Boston Globe.

The bill sped through both the house and senate just one day after the ruling, and is now headed to Gov. Deval Patrick’s (D) desk for signing.
