Evening chat – #CPACPickUpLines

If it’s March, it must be time for that annual gathering of general douchebaggery known as CPAC. Mitch McConnell waving around a rifle? Check. Donald Trump’s hair flapping? Check. Rand Paul fulminating against domestic spying which the GOP loved under Dumbya? Check. A minority outreach panel which no one attends? Double check, baby.

And, as always, we liberals are just funnier. A few of us have imagined what the randy CPACker would say to get a fellow Rightie into the sheets. Because what happens at CPAC stays at CPAC. Here are a few of the efforts

    Hello and Gonite TOD.

Prayers for those on the Malaysian airliner.

  2. March 7, 2014 at 8:46 pm

Love them LL! “Let me show you where I want to lay my Keystone Pipe…line” has me crying!

  3. March 7, 2014 at 8:55 pm

“Vranyo is a Russian word for lying — a special form of lying. I learned of it in a Leningrad nursery school from Aunt Polya, who was in charge of the kitchen and who wasn’t really my aunt. She loomed over us with a pitcher of warm milk and a tray with slices of buttered bread that had absorbed all the rancid smells of the kitchen, watching closely to make sure we ate and drank everything. We all knew she was watching us, she knew that we knew and we knew she knew that we knew. She gave us surprise glances, and we chewed diligently, pretending we didn’t expect her to look. We all played the game: my sister played it at school, and my parents played it at work. All of us pretended, the watchers and the watched.”

Lessons from the past, and an October 2011 essay everyone in the world should read – and then decide if they want to pretend they don’t smell the lies be they from Putin or his BFFs at CPAC.

I know the world had not a good week – but I had my usual wonderful day yesterday with the grandbabe – who is now 18 months old – and needs soon be known as my granddaughter. Mr 99 was home and gave her an extended tour of the garden – if she had been a little taller there is no doubt she would have joined the birds in the birdbath – however only her extended arms could reach to throw some water around. The birds took the wise decision to fly away.

So I’ve spent my Saturday morning catching up on TOD & soon must catch up on the chores. Thank you, as always, for all the good news.

This was published in 2010 and the entire article provides ample evidence of how much a Putinist (Stalinist) thug Yanukovych actually is.

“Much of what we have learned about both Stalinist repression and the Holocaust in the past twenty years has come from Ukrainian archives. The intimidation of historians is a threat not just to civic life in Ukraine, but to the advance of our knowledge of the recent past.”

    Who’s Afraid of Ukrainian History?

      This time with the link:

Accepting the Oscar for Best Picture on Sunday—technically, it might have been Monday at that point—Steve McQueen took a moment to thank “this amazing historian Sue Eakin,” who “gave her life’s work to preserving Solomon’s book.” It was an unusual shout-out: we’re used to seeing Harvey Weinstein or God get thanked, not historians from Louisiana. But it’s safe to say that without Eakin, who died in 2009, at the age of ninety, none of us would be talking about Solomon Northup, or Patsey, or the other once-forgotten souls portrayed in this year’s Best Picture.

Yes, it is interesting, thank you. E3. Mrs. Eakin’s persistence wins the day in the end. I found her comment on the finished product interesting too.

‘at the age of eighty-eight, Eakin published the enhanced edition, with maps, pictures, and historical notes. She wrote in the acknowledgments, “Now Solomon and I can rest.” Two years later, she died.’

Just going back to Rachel’s documentary one last time…..I think the big thing I learned was about the Gulf War of 1990 which was presented as such a holy crusade, with all of GHWB’s righteous preaching. Come to find out…..according to reliable documents….that war was also ALL ABOUT OIL, too. Why was I surprised????? The Bushes are oil people, they moved to Texas for the oil. One thing which was disturbing was the government group which met in a Houston oil headquarters, not in a federal building…..early in 2002. This was why Cheney was made the v.p…….Halliburton and oil.

I pray this whole country will finally wake the eff up! It’s always been about oil – and BigOil owns us all. They will not be content until own the planet, despite they are destroying everything. To what purpose, I cannot fathom. I truly can’t.

The cruelest thing about it all was the rumor that it had landed safely somewhere in China, after getting in to trouble. Can’t begin to imagine what the relatives have gone through.

Weird how such stories start – maybe a glitch on the flight path maps – I’m still wondering who was on the plane we all followed for hours in the Ukraine – maybe that didn’t exist either?

Oddly, I am not so welcoming of the time change this weekend. Usually it doesn’t make much difference, but maybe it’s because I now live in a totally different place since we last reset the clocks, and it feels weird for that reason. Oh, well, nothing I can do about it. Off to the Land of Nod now, g’nite all. Sweet dreams all around. Maybe light some candles for that plane full of people. That is always hard news. Love to all.

as a heads-up to other readers here…i got interested in “20committee” on twitter (john schindler) when he was hammering the eddie snowjob/glen greenwald scam as a russian spying operation. now seeing what pootin has been doing, there coudl be some truth to that.

but 20committee has degenerated into a pure obama-hate place now, while at the same time promoting the “strong leadership” of vlad pootin. schindler’s latest article even talks about how “the west” needs to find new leaders (he’s hinting at obama/democrats/john kerry) since they can’t handle the tough guy antics of vlad pootin (regardless of how not-powerful vlad is). seems schindler decided to change because of the photo of president obama wearing jeans on the weekend. i’ll just say that john schindler (20committee) is showing signs of larry johnson, the “former c.i.a. op” who seemed reasonable for a while and even a little liberal, but went full anti-obama (and pro-hillary clinton) during the primaries and has been as crazy as any teebagger since then. makes you wonder how many psy-ops activities are out there on the internet. thankfully, president obama and john kerry have earned my trust over many years now, and i’ll follow their lead while ignoring the peanut galleries such as 20 committee.

    • March 7, 2014 at 11:54 pm

Astounded too by 20committee the last few days, utterly insane stuff, having appeared to be a balanced kind of a fella. Makes me wonder too what he’s been at all this time, attempting to appear reasonable, gaining level-headed followers, then boom, this war-lusting Obama-hating bile.

George Bush stopped ANY future US President being able to call out another country on what they do – telling Putin he should not invade Ukraine – after Bush invaded Iraq – for cheap oil prices – is an impossible task. PBO was one of the few in congress who voted against the Iraq invasion – few outside of the dems seem to remember that small truth.

Sometimes I’d read the book jacket instead of the book, and with the right type quiz, like multiple choice, bein’ a good guesser, I’d do pretty well. Once, I got an A on a quiz about a book jacket, and my friend sitting next to me in 11th grade English whispered, “I am standing up right now and telling Mr. Johnson you didn’t even read the book … here I go … ” (apparently she stayed up all night reading it, or whatever she was babbling about). My whole short, dull, Catholic high school life flashed before me eyes. But she stayed in her seat and we remained friends. The end.

Just peeking in. Up worried about the plane that disappeared…and then got sidetracked with this (speaking of 20committee)

    http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/07/politics/snowden-leaks-russia/index.html?hpt=hp_c2

Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, made that clear when he told National Public Radio in an interview broadcast Friday how U.S. officials must plan for the possibility that Vladimir Putin’s Russia has access to American battle plans and other secrets possibly taken by classified leaker Edward Snowden.
“If I’m concerned about anything, I’m concerned about defense capabilities that he may have stolen from where he worked, and does that knowledge then get into the hands of our adversaries — in this case, of course, Russia,” Flynn said of the former National Security Agency contractor who fled to Moscow to seek asylum.

Flynn said he worried about what else Snowden knows, and how Russia — where Snowden lives now — may have access to the documents. He cited intelligence capabilities, operational capabilities, technology and weapons systems as potential subjects of so far unpublicized information Snowden — and Russia — may have.

Flynn told the panel that “the greatest cost that is unknown today but that we will likely face is the cost of human lives on tomorrow’s battlefield or in some place where we will put our military forces when we ask them to go into harm’s way.”

There’s a place in hell for him.
