Night owl chat – Greatest rock n roll album of the 70s

Which one do I think is the greatest album? Why, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run”, of course.

I’ve listened to a lot of music from the 1970s. Most of it is of excellent quality. But “Born to Run” has a sweep and an ambition which is hard to match. Bruce chronicled the lives of the down and out, the hopeless dreamers, the melancholic and the nostalgic. And he did it with a music which was dynamic, powerful, almost symphonic. He had the music in his head, and it would get out by hook or by crook. And poetry flowed from his pen.

So, a few selections from the album to take you into Sunday morning.

Why the heck don’t they involve the Int’l Space Station next? Every leg of this recovery sounds not just suspicious, but also overblown, to me – for some reason. I’m not saying it’s not worth finding the crew and passengers, but what the heck else was on that plane?

          And I’m not usually conspiracy-minded!

          • March 9, 2014 at 1:20 am

Jacqueline, from the data that has been released over the past 20 h, it seems likely the plane was compromised by folk with an agenda. What that agenda is(was) is pure conjecture at this point. A 777 doesn’t just land any place, btw, so it is highly unlikely it landed anywhere. Time will resolve its fate.

Indeed! This also reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode I watched just a few months ago where an airplane going from London to NY found itself a century or so back in time and yet couldn’t land because the NYC airport at that time was not suitable for the type of aircraft. So they just kept trying (unsuccessfully) to go back to London, but first had to go through the sound barrier that they had initially broken to end up a century earlier….

That sounds like a better story than whatever happened to this plane! (Used to watch Twilight Zone when it first appeared on TV and we were all scared to death at that point! How almost tame it appears now. Except for the guy on the wing of the airplane, if you recall that episode! Eek.)

Heh..I recall that episode – A young (and very handsome) William Shatner starred in it. Shatner was also in another episode about a fortune teller. The Twilight zone series seemed ahead of its time. I was born when it first came out but decades later, I still enjoyed the episodes as if they were brand new! :)

my entry for the best album of 70s….

    was Stevie Wonder’s album….

Songs in the Key of Life…..

with a shout out to WAR….and EWF as among the best bands of the 70s….HA!

    monumental….

Music is such a wonderful thing…can uplift spirits and give solace…

i came here after watching my local news …who reported that Zimmerman had an autograph signing…they did not say how many folks showed up…but his only claim to fame was the killing of innocent young blk man…sometimes it can be overwhelming

    my favorite from those albums…

    Good Morning…TODers…MsChips ,,, Nerdy…LL…and all the BTs…

wishing many blessings upon you…this day…

It’s just a fucking simple math.

    • March 9, 2014 at 8:40 am

      AMK…it is simple math…

but folks don’t vote for a multitude of reasons…and then folks vote against their own interests because those forces that would enslave us have sold the American People on a bill of goods ….

example…Zimmerman having an autograph signing …at a local store…and folks actually showing up….

however…PBO has showed us…that folks will vote when they have hope…and they are organized

I agree. It is the ultimate working class album. Bruce is the best musician of the past 40 years!
