Morning everyone:) Cat woke me up scratching on my bedroom door…are they kidding?? The house wasn’t on fire, there was no invasion of critters….WTH! Kitty being hungry is NOT a reason to wake me early on Sunday morning…..where did I put that training manual….
Anyway. I up now! Beautiful pic of Michelle and her mom:) Just lovely.

amk…safe flight home. I’d pay to have hubby gone for 6 weeks of peace and quiet:) (Is that bad to say?…been married to the same guy for 33 years, I think I can say that:)

    • March 9, 2014 at 9:27 am

        • March 9, 2014 at 9:53 am

I’d give anything for a comment from Mr Desert Flower to pop up: “Yes I do read TOD actually, my beloved.”

:) Dream on! Ain’t gonna happen, but that WOULD be funny:) Besides, I’m very honest with him about his time to be out of the house….that’s precisely the reason we HAVE been married so long, my dear:) Always wonderful when he comes home though….

            • March 9, 2014 at 10:02 am

Well, 33 years, you two must be rather fond of each other!

Whatever we have may not be “conventional” but it works for us….I make no bones about the fact that I like my time alone and he needs to go somewhere…luckily, he travels for work and it works out for us….don’t forget that he retired from the Navy…our life together was never normal from the git go. I can do everything on my own and I’m secure and strong in my skin…I say we compliment each other, not complete each other….that, and he makes me laugh….bottom line, that’s a big one:)

Spandan talked about the pivotal role of the Press….why it was enshrined in the Constitution and how it is not living up to its scared mission..

    http://www.thepeoplesview.net/main/2014/3/6/the-libertarian-scourge-how-conservatives-sold-and-liberals-bought-the-idea-of-government-as-the-enemy-of-liberty

The Founders invested the most power to hold the government accountable in the fourth estate – the press. They did not, however, imagine the press to be an instrument of ideology. A free press is, in its reporting, free from legal restraint, from business interests, and most importantly, free from ideological agenda.

The American Right was the first to abuse the necessary nature of the press being free from government regulations to undermine its freedom from ideological agenda-driven reporting. After the Right’s success, the Left swept in to fill the void – creating more “press” with ideological agenda, albeit a different ideology. As the Right wing press moved to attack government for its legitimate functions of taxation, social spending, and business regulations, the Left wing press took up the cause of attacking the government over other legitimate functions, most notably national security and law enforcement….

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I would add…as a person of color….I have always found the press to have bias towards the African American Community….however…I can also say that it was wrenching images that were broadcast on TV and pictures in the newspapers of the civil rights movement that told a story to America….that would not have been seen otherwise,,,

Pf, I believe, sadly, that the US press is dead. It simply no longer exists in the manner in which we’ve traditionally known it, which is why it’s often referred to as legacy media. What has substituted for it is social media and the free exchange of ideas on the internet. It’s imperfect, often biased, and is not always fact-based, but it’s what we’re going to have for the foreseeable future. The generation born after 1980 don’t watch traditional media, nor do I, although I was born a whole lot of decades before 1980. Cokie Roberts once let slip that the DC media resented our president because he seemed to regard all of them as ‘has beens’ from another era. The president is right and it’s why he’s despised and continually attacked by the Washington press.

      • March 9, 2014 at 10:17 am

Goooood Morning Jackie….how are you today…

I do agree with you about the state of the Press…however therestill are small pocked of the Press…that do try to be JOE Friday…Just the Facts, man….but news has become entertainment and opinion driven….

although the internet can blunt that…it is our organizing on the ground that …one to one…neighbor to neighbor interaction that will have a great effect as well…this is how ObamaCare…aka the ACA was able to break thru the junk that was being driven by the corporate media…

but not all DEMS want to be grass roots and organize from the ground up…they are still mired in top down big party boss politics…like here in PA…

He sees them for what they are jackie – pundits who will find anything, regardless of the truth, to hold against him. When these so called scandals erupted around him – Benghazi, IRS, that was the end for me with the press. They want to be the news – they don’t want to report truth.

The DC press is irrelevant not because they’re from “another era”. They’re irrelevant because they don’t do REAL journalism. And the President is very well aware of that. So he doesn’t have a lot of respect for them. Strangely, while the president is so diplomatic with everyone, he seems unable to hide his contempt for the DC press. I understand his sentiment and admire his honesty, but there’s no doubt his evident contempt for the Villagers has created a backlash: when the president wants to get his message out, it’s at least twice as difficult because the press doesn’t help him. At all.

As for the young generation, it’s true that they go on the Internet because they find it more convenient. But mainstream news organizations are all on the Internet now so the young generation is an available audience anyway.

The problem is not Internet. The problem is that the traditional press in the USA, at least on the national level, is absolutely PATHETIC. In other countries, the mainstream press is alive and well, does a pretty good job. Canada, France are two examples.

In the USA, the national press has completely abdicated its role of truth checker. So it’s no surprise that people are completely confused when they vote. I would be curious to see if there is another country in the West where the disconnect between what policies people want and what politicians they elect is as BIG as in the USA. I doubt it.

Of course, there is also the problem of Fox News and talk radio. A real propaganda machine who has brainwashed a part of the population. Reminiscent of the Brown Shirts in the 30s in Germany. In the beginning of the 21st century, that propaganda of resentment and hate is much more powerful in the USA than in other countries in the West. It has done a lot of damage.

Good morning….it’s a lovely spring morning where I am…..I can hear birds chirping! But, with spring, comes the dread of tornadoes here in tornado alley. The Sunday paper was filled with tornado news, and weather news, and how last year’s big one changed weather forecasting here. We will enjoy today…….church, lunch with daughter and son-in-law and family, then home to walk the dog and get ready for this week’s classes.

What is the latest on Malaysian Flight 370? The more I read, the stranger it becomes. Looking at the map, seems there are many places that plane could have gone out of radar scope.

So glad the President is meeting with the Ukrainian P M Wednesday. His instincts are impeccable.

Knoller NEVER tweeted about the jobs report on Friday, because there was no way to spin the good news – but he’s all over PBO’s Key Largo visit.

He’s kinda snarky in almost all his tweets—–even football games that go long and cut into 60 Minutes start time, which really drives him nuts—–so I am never too bothered with his tone. (or I’ve become immune) I did note that Ahmad Rashad is in the foursome, so I’m assuming Valerie Jarrett is along again on this getaway—–(they’ve been romantically linked).

I noticed that Steve Kornacki has nothing new on Christie so he is now dealing in hypotheticals and what if’s now.

Next week should get meatier because Bill Stepien and Bridget Kelly are being taken to court on 3/11 to force them to hand over documents related to Bridgegate. Until we get those documents, the story is not being significantlyadvanced. Federal Investigators are also involved now but it may be slow going for awhile.
