4:0 EST: First Lady Michelle Obama Speaks at a Special Screening of Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted
White House Live
Well would ya look who’s first  Afternoon LL!
Hola chica. I’m still recovering from my two Storytimes this morning.
TWO?! You need a gimlet, my friend!
Congrats to LL!
If companies were smart… they’d all get busy pushing this raise- because POTUS as your spokesman will be a boon to your business. I already shop at Old Navy for my skinny little son- but I did go check out clothes online for him at Gap too. I want them to succeed, because it appears they want their workers to succeed. President Obama is so good for this country.
My sentiments exactly.
I don’t know if you know this (you probably already do) but Old Navy is owned by the GAP. I believe Old Navy workers will be getting the raise also
I did just recently learn that TrumpDog- also when I went on the Gap site yesterday, or possibly Banana Republic- they had written on the site about the raise, it actually will go into effect in 2015. But yep, I had shopped at Old Navy at Christmas time – so I’m really glad they’re all a part of this raise. I’ve lived in a small town in ND for 9 years.. so coming to a city again and being able to buy from these stores is extra nice… although I really prefer shopping online, has gotten to be such a habit these past years :)
Thanks for removing that blasted blue star!!
 I’ve been away from the blog for most of the day, last visit I thought “oooooh, that blue star would be fun”, came back to an angry revolution!!!! It won’t come back, promise!!
I loveddddddddddd the star…..i like being able to cosign…..
i wonder what happened to it…bummer….
Oh crikey, we have divided opinion on the star – what do I do?!
You go with the one who has Seniority :D
How do I figure that out?
I **knew** you were involved in some way, Chips Chica! I just knew it! You fiddling around with some button or other was my guess (made lower down), and it turns out I was right.
Trust me – I’m the one with the Seniority –
Okay then – star fans, it’s ALL GGail’s fault that they’re gone
Luckily, we’re not RWNJs and we thrive on CHANGE. :)
You Can’t Scare Me!
( I will now be know as formerly GGail) And like Prince, I’ll just log in as a symbol =
It’s already gone?!?!? Can’t we have an impartial vote?
I like the star!
Chips, I hated the stars because it turned our conversations into competitions. If someone likes what someone else said, they can just say so. There’s a great spirit here of give and take and the more relaxed it is, the better. Plus it sort of gave the page a military look.
If I had a like button to hit for this comment, I would do so. Ooops, that would defeat the whole meaning of the comment. Forget what I said. But I agree with it.
JG, I agree with your comments. But I mainly did not like that blue star. The color was distracting – which became annoying.
Thanks for taking down the star…..it really annoyed me!
I do not think that it would turn into a competition…mercy..but…so be it….moving on….
I liked it too, because sometimes I want to express appreciation but feel silly posting just to say ‘me too’, or ‘I like that’. I didn’t feel competitive. It was just like the favorite button on twitter. Oh well.
Busy day for my OFA Climate Reality team plus I found out I won a PRO SNOW hat from the Climate Reality project!
.@OFA_OR @DCIvan Getting ready to do another #ClimateReality presentation today. Congress should #ActOnClimate http://t.co/POse4MkRuE— Judith Fardig (@FardigJudith) March 12, 2014
 Congratulations on your hat Judith!! Keep up the wonderful work.
:) Thanks, Chips! TOD keeps me inspired to do my very best for President Obama.
Hey, YOU’RE the inspiration Judith, people like you who give so much of your time are the ones who make all the difference. Hats off to you!
‘You’re the inspiration, Judith’ [This could have used the '*Like this' star. ;) ]
Them are the facts, J, but YVW.
Very cool, Judith. What’s the hat look like?
It’s kind of a grey heather “beanie” which will give me hat hair, but I don’t care.
Win right now: Reply to this tweet & tweet us where you will wear your #IAMPROSNOW beanie bit.ly/1nDejUe http://t.co/JTNL61ZJm3— Climate Reality (@ClimateReality) March 09, 2014
Congrats Judith !!!
Thank you, GGAil, and to a bunch of you for your RTs. Tomorrow for #TBT, we will be tweeting cute &/or embarrassing old pictures of ourselves or our kids in Halloween costumes and the like and saying it’s time to give up our super powers and #GetCovered.
I like it!!
POTUS & @VP look forward to hosting Taoiseach @EndaKennyTD at the @WhiteHouse Friday to celebrate St. Patrick's Day: http://t.co/ynK9x91icD— @NSCPress (@NSCPress) March 12, 2014
I’ll have to remember to wear Green to work on Friday.
HaHaHa!! I’ll be a-wearing of my green O’Bama shirt, like I do every year! The one which arrived promptly ON St. Paddy’s Day in 2008!! But – I’m LOL’ing as in    because at Trader Joe’s earlier (yes, thanks, I DID get out), I got some funny looks as I laughed out loud when I saw the BLARNEY SCONE, in the bread section!! Now, many of us who have been schooled in tea-drinking countries, will know very well Scone is not pronounced the same way as Stone, but most Amurikans do not, and yes, they really pronounce it that way! Sending pics to your email now, Chipsticks, you can post if you like! Will say it’s actually pretty tasty too, tho I seldom eat bread, I just had to buy this darn thing – now I know it’s all O’Bama ‘s fault ~ it’s that green blood running in his Irish veins!!
A @Gap employee got the surprise of a lifetime when she helped the President shop for sweaters! Watch: cnn.it/1gkw76l— New Day (@NewDay) March 12, 2014
/bewildered/ I go for lunch and come back and the ‘like this’ buttons have all disappeared? And Chips is in the house. Hmmmmmm. Wonder what she had touched prior to my departure and re-touched when I was away. I bet she was the one playing with the buttons.
Ch-i-ps! What have you been doing?
You expressed dislike and she obeyed.
Seriously. That’s what happened.
O dear! Does this mean I have to be more careful what I say?
Well if you have to be careful, then I have to be careful then everybody needs to be careful.
TOD just doesn’t roll that way.
Just teasing. I am who I am;
and not at all irritating. ;)
Well of course you are…..
You okay, Japa? Need some Vicks? Must be the unremitting cold weather (says the non-scientific one).
Heifer dust! ♥
Yeah, that too. ;)
Jim Stuart of Jim Stuart’s New Blog hasn’t posted since mid February. I hope he’s well. Miss his perspective.
Just finish watching FLOTUS and her special guest say a few words to the military families. The special guest was Kermit the frog. Wow!
I didn’t mean to leave out Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dempsey. Sorry.
JackieG, it seems like he’s been spacing out his posts for a while now. I noticed because I used to check him regularly and then there was a stint when I thought he might have been on vacation. Then he returned and they haven’t been as regular. I can’t remember why I had originally thought he was on vacation, though I had a vague memory he himself might have implied it.
Thanks, VC. Last post he didn’t mention anything about signing off for a while. Will keep checking.
Me too. I pass by once every other day.
Yes. I really like his blog. For some reason my WordPress ID was not recognizable so I couldn’t post a comment.
Hiya Jackie, love Jim’s blog too. Everything seems to be okay with him, he’s still tweeting away:
Thanks, will catch him up on twitter.
CC, you are definitely the twin that got the brains – it never occurred to me to check Jim’s TL.
For those of you familiar with using public satellite imagery the Malaysian Air plane may have been spotted:

OUTSIDE BELTWAY MEDIA, OBAMA’S “BETWEEN TWO FERNS” APPEARANCE IS A GIANT HIT
By Spandan Chakrabarti March 12, 2014
The irony of the beltway media complaining is, of course, that had they done their jobs – instead of letting it out that they do not consider reporting the facts to be their job – and told the American people the truth about the Affordable Care Act, the president may not have needed to sidestep their freak show. If the beltway press had concentrated on reporting the facts about Obamacare rather than salivating over the politics and how Republicans were going to attack it, they might have saved themselves the embarrassment.
Can Chris Christie get any lower?

New Jersey just banned Tesla Motors from direct sales in that State…..
Apparently they MUST have a dealer middle man in New Jersey and Tesla sells direct to the public
That bites! Does Jersey still ban people from pumping their own gas too! Freakin’ bizarre.

Did anyone see Ed talk about that special election last night in Florida. Where Ed said that that area has voted Republicans for along time, what 30 years or more and Jolly just did win by 2%. But the media is trying to act like it’s some big deal. Ed’s question was do the Republicans have the media hoodwink over Obamacare? And that dried up old Bob Barker was supporting Jolly. Don’t care for Barker anymore.
60 years … since 1955. Dems were about 3200 votes short. They feel they can win it in Nov from reports I’m reading from DCCC. They certainly can if they get aggressive in supporting Obamacare and President Obama’s middle class development efforts.
But the media is trying to act like this Jolly guy blew the Democrat out by 100,000 or 200, 000 votes. If a Republican had went into a Democrat area and barely lost the media would have a whole different story. And isn’t it strange that Chuck Todd and Rupert Murdoch released a poll the day after the election.
Bobfr and Anniebella—I watched Ed with Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and my stomach turned over.
Ed challenged Debbie when she defended running on “fix the ACA.” Debbie thinks Alex Sink’s losing strategy was ok!!!!!
Ed was right when he argued that we need enthusiatic discussion of ACA NOT acting like there is something wrong with it. Full throated partisan We Love Obamacare is a winning message. Don’t you agree?
Debbie sounds like an enemy to me.
Debbie is not an enemy but she is a MAJOR disappointment. She is old school Democratic fear.
Every Democrat that is allowed to speak in public should be cheering ACA. But if the head of the DNC is going to run scared, then there is no coordinated, powerful message.
When I bitch about Democratic messaging, I mean DWS and her litany of missed opportunities as DNC chairperson.
It must be a very thin line between enemy and person with microphone, a leader of our party, who declines to speak up loudly and proudly for The President’s signature legislation.
People have been sceptical of DWS for a long time but today I saw the problem clearly for the first time. Oy vey
DWS is serving two Interests. Her District and as DNC chair. The latter is a full-time job that is unapologeticlly partisan. DWS didn’t want the job. She agreed to the job if she would keep her seat and then have Co-Chairs.
Just like Gov Tim Kaine from 2009-2010. A governor with divided attention.
I wrote the the WH about this then in 2009, 2010 and when DWS was selected. DNC needs a Full-Time person who is focused on How Dems can win in 50 states. Dr. Dean was such person. DWS is not great as a DNC advocate. There are No events and nothing tangible to keep Dems motivated across the nation.
Sink campaigned as a weak candidate. She lost as such for Folks will vote for perceived strength over a weak Dem.
Crist is running unapologetically and every poll in FL has him leading Scott.
@DWStweets Its NOT ok for DEMS to run on a message that they want to FIX OCare/they need to embrace it/defend it/it is the ticket to victory— Pretty Foot (@PrettyFootWoman) March 12, 2014
.@PrettyFootWoman Indeed @DWStweets our party leader missing a chance 2 speak up loudly & proudly 4 PBO's signature legislation is shocking.— Vick C. (@sonamie) March 12, 2014
Not enough space to credit you, Vicki, and squeeze it all in; couldn’t even add the ‘i’.
Thank you prettyfoot and Vick C. for echoing my message.
You voiced our frustration and anger that ALL Dems, and in particular the leader, do not stand with PBO on such a key issue. Political idiots.
She is a big supporter of HRC and probably paving the way to echo HRC’s sentiments. It’s disgusting.
“Don’t care for Barker anymore.”
Me either. Can’t look me way again. YUCK
Shit…it did it again and I don’t know why! Sometimes I type and the cursor skips/jumps around or disappears when I’m typing and I end up missing letters or it becomes a jumbled mess. UGH
That should have read Me either. Can’t look at him the same way again. YUCK
With the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff? Too funny.

POWER to the people immasmartypants.blogspot.com/2014/03/power-…— Pretty Foot (@PrettyFootWoman) March 12, 2014
But as Matt Yglesias points out, too many progressives still haven’t learned that lesson.
If you’re a progressive and you feel that the political system isn’t doing what you want, it’s misguided to look at this as a personal failure of elected officials. It’s, if anything, a personal failure of you and people like you. Justice and equality doesn’t just happen because it’s nice, people need to make it happen. If it’s not happening, then its advocates are failing. And I do think there’s a lot of wisdom to the old Le Tigre song “Get Off The Internet.” Reading and talking to like-minded people about how powerful people are failing can seem like action, but it really isn’t.
Have any of you read the book, Lost Horizon by James Hilton, or seen the movie? I knew something had been haunting me ever since the disappearance of MH370, and today realized it was this play I saw when a sophomore in h.s. The book was written in 1931 and concerns a plane with English and Americans on it that goes beyond where that day’s radar can track it, into the upper reaches of the Himalayas and crashes. The survivors trek up to a Lamasery which is supposed to be the repository for all the knowledge in the world, as the world anticipates destruction coming from the sky in the next war. This lamasery and area are known as Shangri-La. This is a good story, and I keep thinking this plane was hijacked by someone wanting to get away from the world, some place hidden, like the people in this book. The L.A. Times says this event is unprecedented…….it is a mystery.
