“In Flanders Fields”
(Written during the First World War by Canadian physician Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae)
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Hi.
Good night.
Love it!
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has said that three air force generals have been arrested for plotting an uprising against his government.
Mr Maduro said that the authorities had been tipped off by “young officers”.
The three generals, who have not been named, had links with the opposition, said Mr Maduro.
The arrests are the latest development in nearly two months of political unrest, which have cost the lives of at least 32 people.

One hopes with each generation that humanity would stop launching wars and learn other ways to disagree.
In the beginning, God created earth and rested.
Then God created man and rested.
Then God created woman…
Since then, neither God nor man has rested.
byeee.
i thought you skedaddled a while ago…?
Very touching tribute, Chips. Thank you.

“Today, Freedom Day in Belarus (anniversary of the People’s Republic of Belarus) was celebrated under banners that said “Glory to Ukraine! Shame on Putin!,” ”Russia Means War,” “Death to Kremlin Occupiers,” and “For Our and Your Freedom.” Up to five thousand people took part in the rally in Minsk.
For a democratic country, five thousand people is a drastically small number. But for an authoritarian state, that is huge. Thank you, Belarussian brothers! Your support means a lot to us. If you can fight for your freedom under Lukashenko’s regime, then we MUST fight for ours in the country of the victorious Maidan.”

Keep up the good fight, Bob! :) I’m out for the night.
Will do, theo!! Rest well :)
In less than a week, women throughout Crimea, UA are having their child care support undermined by their Russian saviors and folk living on pensions got quite a surprise ….
Nothing sustainable about Tzar Putin’s colossal & illegal adventure. At this point, only the exceptional restraint of Ukraine’s leadership has prevented extensive death and destruction. But, at any moment this pile can go critical ….
Kharkiv residents demonstrate for a united Ukraine
“More than 2,000 people gathered in Kharkiv late Tuesday, March 25, with Ukrainian flags and other national symbols near the Taras Shevchenko monument in the city center, reports Ukrinform.
People shouted “For a united Ukraine, including Crimea!” and “No to separatism.”
“We’re tired of having Kharkiv called a pro-Russian city, of hearing reports that people are walking around with Russian flags, said journalist Volodymyr Chystylin, one of the organizers, from the podium. “Kharkiv is a Ukrainian city no matter how much the political tourist are trying to present the reverse. We’re calling for a single, united Ukraine and against separatism and the Russian annexation of Crimea. Our main goal is to bring these ideas to our countrymen. Our Euromaidan has served this purpose for four months since it was first founded, ” he concluded.
Joining him at the podium were representatives of various civic organizations in the city: Zelenyy Front (Green Front), Samooborona (Self Defense) , Hromadska Varta (Civil Guard) and Euromaidan-SOS.”

good night TOD
Those in Crimea who voted for annexation to Russia will find themselves in the position of those who vote Republican. You never get what you were promised and the outcome is always worse than you thought it would be. Liars are liars in any country and in any language.
Just heard this morning about three of POTUS Secret Servicemen were sent home for drinking, one was found drunk. I don’t have the entire story, just got some of it on the news which comes on around 4am. Have any of you heard about it. I know these people have a stressful job, but come on if you can’t do the job right then quit.
Seems the news only really cover the trip when something bad or scandalous occurs. I have a feeling we’ll hear a lot more of this trip now though
Have a great day everyone especially GoB and all those who are not well or just need an encouraging word
News finally has a reason to report on PBO’s trip. Drunk secret service guys. All local and national outlets are on the case! Being promoted as top opening story on Today!
And local news just said they had “Breaking News!”——-and it was the band lineup for this summer’s Lollapalooza.
And we wonder why we are dumb and getting dumber?
Dotster, ever notice when you are in a group of people, supposedly smart and well-educated, they are absolutely ignorant of what’s going? People don’t even know the president is on an important international trip, let alone what he has accomplished. Because we come to TOD everyday, we are the most informed people in any room.
Yes, sometimes I’ll mention something I think everyone knows about, and I’ll get blank looks in return——and silence.
Sad our public is so uninformed.
Exactly. It’s actually pretty depressing.
Good morning. A day of reflection
Happy Wednesday everyone.
Chips, this is a beautifully touching tribute to those who died in Flanders Field. Glorious photos! It’s impossible to read the poem without tearing up. Thank you.
Morning Jackie, my pleasure - the poem is so powerful, has the same effect on me.
Good Morning Chips and TOD. Obama to honor American WWI dead at Flanders Field.
Interesting article on the stress of American workers-especially women- and the out of date US attitudes to work that are making people sick. http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2014/03/americas-workers-stressed-out-overwhelmed-totally-exhausted/284615/
Morning everyone!
Today Show’s opening of their Big Breaking News story of drunk secret service guys was Matt Lauer urgently saying “NEW embarrassment” as 6 or 7 different photos of President Obama flashed on the screen. The message they were obviously trying to imply——-President Obama must have done something so embarrassing! It was so misleading——-they should be arrested.
That is infuriating Dotster - gawd, I hate the media.
When they do that we need to call them out directly - make THEM feel some of the embarrassment they’re trying to throw at the President.
Chips, thank you for this touching coverage. I love the poem Flanders Field.
Oi, whatcha being impatient about - this’ll do as your Early Bird Chat! R&S soonish!
On second thoughts…. an Early Bird is coming in a min
what, didn’t the robotic fingers creep you out?
Na, I just assumed it was your hand.
of course.
Heads up:
http://theobamadiary.com/2014/03/26/910-am-edt-president-obama-press-conference/
Who want to guess what the first question will be from the WHPC? Maybe they will take no questions, cause I know they are just waiting to ask about the Secret Servicemen who was sent home.
Are the Obama family on their way home? I hope they enjoyed their trip to China. I enjoyed keeping up with their trip.
While AMK is drumming his fingers, people in my area are waking up to to snowy sidewalks and driveways and are once again scraping cars for their morning commutes. Very high gusting winds make walking almost impossible and driving difficult. And there’s no relief in sight. I’m coming to the conclusion that Spring is actually a myth from a long ago time. I remember how it once brought flowers and balmy weather and you could see trees in blossom. Or maybe it was just a dream. Have a great day everyone. And if you’re blessed with warmth today, go out, revel in it and give a thought to your poor, still freezing TOD brothers and sisters.
Morning Everyone!
of course PBO’s Nuclear Summit “was not important” to the media - let 24/7 media focus go where it always wants to go => garbage
