MoooOOOooorning Early Birds – Happy Sunday!
Good Sunday morning, TOD
Lookin’ suave, Chips!
Thank you kindly, Judith :-)
Good morning, Chips and TnMtnGirl!
How are you doing, Alycee. Are you all better?
Hi, Jackie! I’m coming along; every time I think the pneumonia is gone, it comes sneaking back. Using the oxygen has helped tremendously, especially at night. Taking it easy this week because starting Thursday, I’m in Reading for the Berks Jazz Fest.
Sorry, it’s taking so long. My sister is prone to pneumonia–had it twice–and the winters are terrible for her since she’s confined indoors a lot. Hope the Spring (if it ever comes) brings some relief. Have a great time in Reading.
Happy Sunday TODers
Congrats tnmtngirl, Alycee
Morning TOD family!
NEW GOP Bid to Limit Voting in Swing States: SHOULD make every American mad. GOP must cheat/change game to win. mobile.nytimes.com/2014/03/30/us/…— KSK(africa) (@lawalazu) March 30, 2014
It may be cynicism on my part, but it’s gotten to the point that whenever the GOP express certainty that their candidate will win, I suspect that there is some deceit, underhanded, unethical behaviour in play that the GOP believes will insure that win. [Same reason why Karl Rove almost burst a blood vessel and Mitt Romney was in denial during the 2012 election.]
The fact that we have to convince people that they are under attack is a very sobering thought. At what point will people open up their eyes and see that the GOP is trying to strip away our most basic right. There is nothing more basic right than the right to vote.
That’s not cynicism swbluega, the GOP has indeed engaged in deceit, and unethical behavior. In other words they have broken the law to stop certain segments of society from voting. If they truly believed in their ideas they would not have to cheat to win an election.
“If they truly believed in their ideas they would not have to cheat to win an election.”
That’s just it…some of the things that come out of their mouths are so outrageous and unfeeling that you have to wonder whether they actually believe what they’re saying. I think it’s more that they know that there is a faction that will believe such rubbish — even if it contradicts their best interests — because of who is saying it. We also see that many of those who spout the outrage are not the ones who will suffer, and are probably among the first to take advantage of the benefits from the ideas and policies that they claim to be against.
Good Sunday Chipsticks….TODers!!!!
I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.
Wishing you the same, swbluega!
Rev. Barber: “What we see here is a total disrespect and disregard for constitutional protections,” mobile.nytimes.com/2014/03/30/us/… VOTER SUPPRESSION— KSK(africa) (@lawalazu) March 30, 2014
Africa, what Rev. Barber said has, unfortunately, become the very definition of a Republican.
Absolutely. And they are the first to scream about Freedom. Psychopaths.
Good morning to all on this very windy, very rainy day. People in this area are preparing for flood damage today as the rains keep coming. Since PA’s primary is so late, there’s still a lot of shuffling about who qualifies to be on the ballot, but it looks as if we’ll have four choices for Dem governor candidates. Whoever wins had better come out fighting and clinch the deal in November. Like all states with the misfortune to have Republican governors, we can’t survive another four years of right wing idiocy.
Africa, couldn’t access that link. Says page doesn’t exist.
He probably deleted it. It was something about Christie referencing the Occupied Territory in Palestine.
He had to apologize—–blasphemous to mention that, a big no no in that crowd. That whole display there—-all the horrific GOP hopefuls having to parade by and grovel at the feet of throw uppy Sheldon Adelson, hoping to be the anointed one, the one he bestows with his $100 million, the one he uses to try to buy the presidential election —again—-who will then gratefully stop all the criminal investigations of all his illegal activities———all utterly revolting.
Just think, at this exact moment some mother of father is sitting in front of a computer with a cup of coffee and signing up their family for Obamacare.
If voting didn't matter, the GOP wouldn't mind if minorities did it. nytimes.com/2014/03/30/us/…— (@LOLGOP) March 30, 2014
Good News: I am part of the last minute #ACAsurge. Finally got signed up last nite.
Bad News: I am ashamed it took this long. Though not my fault. Kynect held up my application in December before I traveled abroad. I only got it resolved after returning last week.
Experience: Not very user-friendly. Annoyed I was asked to prove my citizenship. Wonder if they asked everyone in my state to prove citizenship or only those of us with “unAmerican”-sounding names.
Take-away: Still an Obama-bot. Now smothered in #Obamacare. Healthcare security makes my professional changes less scary. :lol:
What I got: Gold plan, with a tiny subsidy. Don’t know what income will be this year so I didn’t want to lowball income then find myself coughing back subsidies at tax time next year
Look at zizi! Talking about tax breaks and stuff! LOL!
You tease! :D
Zizi – happy to hear you made it through the hassle and got signed up. Yes you are helping the #ACASurge!
Congratulations, Zizi. Sorry the process was frustrating, but thrilled you got through and got covered.
Congrats zizi on being able to sign up finally, and sorry about your frustrating experience. Hopefully, the years of good, affordable coverage going forward will far outweigh the few months of hassle you had to go through! :)
Congratulations on finally being signed up for Obamacare!
No, you were not singled out for proof of citizenship or permanent residence – this is part of the law that was put in place at the insistence of gop (please see my detailed response below – meant to place it here)
Yay Zizi! I thrilled for you! Nothing like having the peace of mind of being covered. Way to go!

wasn’t crist supposed to be the dem candie?
I didn’t ever hear that Nelson was trying to run. Good that they won’t be fighting each other.
Well I guess it just means that Crist will have an uncontested Dem Primary! :) Nary a peep from the media how Crist is kicking Rick Scott’s butt down there.
Nope. I live in Florida. I am going to work my behind off for him.

HOW do you spell relief? #Obamacare!— KSK(africa) (@lawalazu) March 30, 2014
Not that anyone would be tuned in anyway, but warning that Smirky GOP Tool, Chuck Toady Todd, is filling in for Low Ratings Gregory on MTP. NBC couldn’t possibly be considering him as a permanent replacement host, could they? (probably) I already got to see him and Today’s Erica Hill snickering about Obamacare, saying that even tho polls show a SLIGHT improvement in approval, and they both emphasized and laughed about “slight”, Todd explained that wasn’t any real approval by the public—-(couldn’t possibly be)——it was because of “debate fatigue”, tired of the whole subject, and so there was sort of a “passive acceptance”. And added that this is the one subject that is really got the Repubs all fired up about voting.
It’s getting harder or taking too much effort to continue to fabricate lies about Obamacare.
There is a surge in people *actively* embracing Obamacare by signing up, and acknowledging that it is a true benefit to them; especially if they were unable to get insurance in the past.
Pretty much every speculation UpChuck Todd gives – the OPPOSITE is true. Thanks Chuck, for reassuring us that the GOP really has nothing to be exited to vote for/against this November.
Then can the DC idiots explain the Surge in sign-ups?
Their logic is forever wickedly twisted.

Kremlin is built on the one thing Russia doesn't control: the price of oil. A good read #putin's ambiitions & reality
bbc.com/news/magazine-…— (@amk4obama) March 30, 2014
Thanks, amk. Great read. I think he is in over his head.
“Putin has really painted himself into a corner by destroying every independent source of power in Russia. He now has only the bureaucracy to rely on, and must keep increasing its funding to keep ensuring its loyalty,” says Ben Judah, the British author of Fragile Empire, a study of Putin’s Russia.
“Eventually, the money is going to run out, and then he will find himself in the same position Soviet leaders were in by the late 1980s, forced to confront political and economic crises, while trying to hold the country together. He looks strong now, but his Kremlin is built on the one thing in Russia doesn’t control: the price of oil.”
This was an excellent article, AMK. I like the reference to the fact that Putin was only a mid-level functionary at the time the Soviet Union collapsed and doesn’t have the senior level understanding of why it happened.

Exactly! Paging MHP, Hayes, Maddow, O’Donnell, Reid, Schultz etc… To all MSNBC hosts who call themselves “Liberals” and have some PBO supporters faithfully watching your shows. This is not the time to be nitpicking and attacking the President over every silly issue that you know very little about. I will waste no time in aggressively calling you out and I will HOLD you accountable & RESPONSIBLE if you help to create DEM voter apathy come November.
I feel what you are saying. Democratic enthusiam and energy leading to Huge Democratic turnout in November is what we need.
If you’re not working for these goals what is it you think you are doing?
you asked a question about the proof of citizenship and Obamacare enrollment;
No, you were not singled out because you had a “foreign-sounding” name or accent;
proving legal residence or citizenship is part of the Obamacare law that was put in there at the insistence of republicans – you know it was one line of attack when they were writing the law ;
initially, the law was written to include EVERYBODY who was in the US (documented or undocumented) with the justification that diseases don’t ask for papers and everyone must receive care in the ER.
The only caveat at the time was that anyone who was not documented could not receive government financial help but could use their money to buy a policy on the Obamacare exchange;
once the hysteria about Obamacare being for “illegal aliens” was pushed by talk radio and gop elected officials, then the option to let everyone buy healthcare was dropped;
I have helped many in the immigrant community sign for Obamacare;
so yes I know that once you answer the question that you were not born in the US, you must provide your citizenship number or permanent resident number;
this information is then verified by a backchannel link to the immigration services – but part of the law is that this information can’t be used to start deportation proceedings for undocumented parents who sign up their children.
It operates more like IRS – ignores immigration status for tax filing and only eligibility is determined;
Ps. fears of this deportation partly explains WHY many in the immigrant community (especially Latinos) have been hesitant to sign up their eligible children for Obamacare
by the way if you know someone who is undocumented and has uninsured children, please encourage them to sign the children up for Obamacare
Thanx for info :D
So based on the resounding success of our FLOTUS’ trip in China, I guess the feeble attempt by Snowjob and the NY Times with their silly NSA story right as she was traveling there, didn’t work, huh?

Why would you want to compete for something you thing is not worth anything. We are part of that 47% they can’t stand, the welfare, free loaders, who just want free stuff from the government, who sit at home having babies on welfare and food stamps, and Paul Ryan said our men don’t work. So if they prevent us from voting, no big deal. But it is ashame, because instead of doing all you can to make it harder to vote, they ought to be encouraging people to vote. It just show you what low down dirty bastards these Republicans have become.
This is about POWER….
it has NOTHING to do with Democracy..
.the GOP and their allies do not really believe in Democracy…they use that term to continue their spin to keep their red base duped and voting against their own interests…
What can we do about the continuing policy to disenfranchise American citizens…this continuing effort to relegate the Obama Coalition to 2nd class status…
We must organize our own POWER!….

Good Morning……I don’t know how much you all have discussed this b/c have not kept up b/c of life getting in the way…..but…..what Patrick Cannon, (Charlotte mayor until he resigned) has done, if true, has really harmed Democrats chances in NC……Just devastated…..what do you all think about Kay Hagan’s chances now?
he has done great harm no doubt – unbelievable greed and stupidity!
But Kay Hagan can separate her self from the former mayor
I certainly hope you are right….it was a battle before this but I am afraid this will be the incentive to really GOTV for the GOP and more apathy from Dems…..rather than focusing on voting rights, teachers pay, education cuts, immigration reform, coal ash spills, women’s healthcare rights, Medicaid cuts, food stamp cuts, and everything else that is going wrong in NC, Dem voters will just shrug their shoulders and stay home like they did in 2010…..not only that but the media is already trying to taint PBO b/c the idiot bragged about having White House ties……
The Gov of NC and the extreme laws would certainly be bigger than one greedy newly elected mayor. Moral Monday stated in NC. At the end, sen Hagan will be fine if Dems come out to vote.

Modern Day Jim Crow Laws bit.ly/PbuHRB via @laprogressive— Joseph Brandon8 (@JosephBrandon8) March 30, 2014
The Jim Crow era lasted until the 1960s. It took an historic civil rights movement, landmark Supreme Court rulings and Congressional approval of sweeping civil rights laws – including the Voting Rights Act – to end de jure Jim Crow racism.
Democratic Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson championed the civil rights bills, which passed thanks to a bipartisan alliance of Northern and Western Republicans and Democrats.
Those Republicans included Sens. Jacob Javits, Clifford Case, Hugh Scott and Everett Dirksen — and Kentucky’s John Sherman Cooper and Thruston Morton. Kentucky Rep. Tim Lee Carter, a Republican, joined the Bluegrass State’s six Democratic congressmen in voting “aye.”
The likes of moderate Republicans like Cooper and Morton and liberals like Javits and Case are long gone from the GOP, which has chopped away its deep civil rights roots.
I am in awe of how much it took to beat back the forces of repression and racism…
it scares me at times to think how much we could slide back to the era of the Night Rider..(it really was not that long ago @ 50 years) I do not belittle the TERROR that black folks felt when black men were lynched at will….but to some degree… Stand Your Ground and Stop & Frisk laws…are creating their own kind of Fear…
When one of those racist…. sexist…homophobe GOP candidates knocks off a so-called moderate (by today’s standards) it is another blow against democracy and the civil rights of everyone, esp the civil rights of blk folks…
#FORWARD…..because we must!
