Anyone wants to file a police report because they’re offended that I came in 1st now? Go ahead…file.

You’re welcome. The last one killed me.

“What’s up baby? Want some of these freckles?”

      I collapsed with laughter.

Asking all the TOD family to set up a prayer circle for the slain in Overland Park. My cousin is telling me 2 of the 3 who were killed were members of his community. They learned of it in their church gathering tonight, the entire community is in shock. They are all very saddened, of course. I have candles going, and will be needing some help here. Thank you, all. http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=PBO

Love George’s tweets. He puts a lot into ‘em, and apparently takes contributions from fans!

  5. April 13, 2014 at 10:23 pm

    Congrats on 1st, hf!!

Thank you, NW, for the fun tweets. We’re going to need whatever reasons for laughter we can find because in less than 4 hours, unless truly a miracle happens, a major war could well be underway.

At the time of this post it is 520a in Kyiv. The deadline is 9a Kyiv time.

Churkin’s UNSC performance leaves little reason for optimism and every reason for defcon 2, at a minimum …

Good evening TOD family. I just had to come and tell you all what a wonderful birthday weekend I have had. Today is my birthday, on Friday night my son & DIL took us out to cocktails, dinner and a movie, yesterday a friend cooked us dinner, this morning went to church came home to a beautiful brunch my husband made. Then 4 of us went to Lolo Hot Springs for a wonderful afternoon of soaking and dinner in the bar. It has been so special.

Now to go back and read the posts of the day. Can’t wait to read the tweets. Ready for a good laugh. Thank you NW for all you work.

Hi there! Just reading through Bloomberg and found some good economic news. These aren’t all from today so you may already have seen them, but it’s definitely good news!

This guy at the Russian Central Bank wasn’t worried about new sanctions even though it could cost Russian economy $150 B this year. He reminds me of Bagdad Bob. But the rest of the article is pointing out that the effect would be significant.

  8. April 13, 2014 at 10:37 pm

I LOVED this one!! President Obama sneaks another one in. I couldn’t get all the details in 140 characters, but I just love it!!!

      • April 13, 2014 at 10:42 pm

Absolutely!!! I just love it. Lots of good stuff in that article. This is one of my favorite quotes

“In advance one always hears the squeals of the oxen who would like everyone to think they are about to be gored,” said James Galbraith, an economist at the University of Texas at Austin. “Then it turns out that they are only nicked, and life goes on.”

TME, Is James Galbraith related to the famous economist John Kenneth Galbraith? I always loved JKG’s wit and humor whenever he had to deal with right wingers.

  9. April 13, 2014 at 10:39 pm

These two go together. An article and a graphic about the US recovery/economy driving the global economy.

  10. April 13, 2014 at 10:45 pm

This article just laid out the options that US/EU are considering now and quite clearly, military is not an option. It’s just another difficult situation and another reason I thank God for President Obama. Bloomberg also had an article about Iran eagerly seeking to rejoin the financial community when allowed to by the sanctions ending. I think they could tell Russia it matters.

    • April 13, 2014 at 11:02 pm

Very, very big difference between Iran and Ukraine, TME.

Ukraine has been invaded by Russia.

As much as 21st Century economic tools are very powerful, if by 9a Kyiv time, Putin’s FSB/GRU and those they’ve armed don’t back down, Ukraine will begin defending its territory from a blatant invasion.

If the shooting starts, NO ONE can predict the outcome.

That’s the difference between war and diplomatic efforts to convince a Nation not to pursue a nuclear weapons program and the lesson plan of that difference is a work in progress, at this very moment in human history.

#TrustBarack … and be FOREVER grateful that he is the President of the United States of America as the lesson plan is being scripted.

      • April 14, 2014 at 12:34 am

Well, I’m speechless at your reply. Of course there is a big difference between the situation in Russia and Iran, including military might, allies and reasons for sanctions. And of course we don’t know what will happen. There are some wonderful articles being written about President Obama as a 21st Century leader – his use of consensus building and sanctions – and the difference with 20th century leaders and that was in my mind when I made my comment. I was also thinking of some other articles where Russia is saying sanctions don’t matter, when of course, they do and Iran is a good example. This is a time of transition in many ways in our country and globally and so of course we will see whatever the outcome is. I hope it’s alright with you if I come to TOD and make a comment. I would like my opinion to be as valid as others. Sometimes people grow comfortable with each other and another viewpoint is jarring. Perhaps that’s what happens because you’ve done this with my comments before. It’s not a discussion, it’s as if you are schooling me. I don’t feel good and I’m tired and that’s a physical state I deal with a lot. This is my one place where I know I can come to read positive things about President Obama, but I definitely don’t have to comment. I really don’t and I mean that. I just want to be in a peaceful place not to cause dissension or disagreement. No hurt feelings, but I don’t go around my Bircher brother, RW nephew or other red state family. I think it would be better if I took a time out from commenting too. Just looking for peace.

TME – Bob will speak for himself, but please don’t go anywhere. We’re all looking for peace here at TOD (including Bob – I’ll just add that on his behalf), and learning from each other. These are intense times, so perhaps the intensity is catching up with all of us. I often find myself wondering if I’ve worded something in a way that comes across the way I meant it, but sometimes I’m frosted by the RWNJs and others and I’m not sure it does! Take a little break if needed, but please stay with us, because I very much am interested in your posts about various subjects – as I’m sure others are!

        • April 14, 2014 at 1:56 am

Dear TME, I wasn’t ‘schooling your’ or in any way discounting your contributions or perspectives.

The contrast between the role of sanctions in the Iranian situation and the Ukrainian situation are stark – a lesson plan that of extraordinary importance. That was the only message in my response and I was grateful for your bringing the ‘crunch time’ Bloomberg post to us. I was responding to its naivete, not yours!

Beyond that, I have no role here except to attempt to contribute. My contributions, whatever their value, are certainly no greater than yours or anyone’s. That’s just a simple fact in the context of the lovely community Chips has created.

I wish I could offer a greater sense of ‘peace’ for you and all humanity. Unfortunately, I’m entirely inadequate in doing so and regret that I caused you any discomfort.

American voters were quizzed on their knowledge of issues and facts raised in the 2010 midterm elections, in a survey by World Public Opinion, a project managed by the Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland.

Respondents were also asked where they get their news from: Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, newspapers, network TV news, public broadcasting.

The survey found that “substantial levels of misinformation were present in the daily consumers of all news sources.” But Fox News viewers were significantly more likely to be misinformed than those who get their news from other sources. And, greater exposure to Fox News increased the degree to which viewers were misinformed.

Thanks MightyPamela for keeping the candles lit. It does give warmth, encouragement, and lights of compassion. I have mine going and as I walk into a room and smell the lovely scent all over the house, my heart give thanks for measures of goodness to dwell within our spaces for our TOD family all over this world.

Thanks Bobfr for all of the great work. you are sharing with us daily. Our beloved Amk, thank you also for your brilliant contributions. We are so blessed to have so many brilliant minds who bring great news to this beautiful haven that Chips has created for all of us to be informed.

Nerdy W., you are such a faithful and brilliant mind in this beautiful TOD family. Thanks for all that you do to help Chips and share such goodness with all of us. {{{{{ Much loving hugs to you}}}}}}} I appreciate you so much.

IsYardarm okay? Also, Gobrookly, I hope that you will feel better tomorrow so that your appetite will improve. Take good care of yourself, Gobrookly. Try to keep something that you like in the house so when you do not feel like cooking, at least you can snack on something tasteful.
{{{{{{{{{{{ Loving hugs to you, Gobrooklyn.}}}}}}}}}}}}} So many times, I wish that I could just go and stop in on my TOD family members and prepare a meal; prepare a warm cup of tea; or just sit and laugh with my TOD family members and help cheer those who are hurting at this time. I would love that so much. But I am praying for wisdom, great medical doctors, great family members helping out, and wonder news to come into each of my dear TOD family members who may not be feeling well at this time. HZ

Good evening to ya, HZ. So great to read your thoughtful posts, especially in the evening. I agree with everything you said! I believe Yardarm is still on his sojourn, and has left AMK in charge of naughty mats (not that you and I would need them – oh no – Ha!). Also sending up positive thoughts with you for the good folks here who need some comfort in their recuperations, especially GoBrooklyn, who’s come such a long way! Your wish that you could prepare a meal and a warm cup of tea – while sharing a laugh – with others from TOD shows just the kind of sweetheart you are, sweetheart!

I shouldn’t joke about these issues, but CNN is hopeless. Apparently there’s been an oil slick found in the waters during the missing plane search, but who would know anyway – most people have given up on the possibility of any “breaking news” on CNN. Ya can’t see the forest for the trees, with their unimpressive coverage.

Bob – I’m shocked – I don’t think you watch cable news, but I just turned on CNN TV and they are covering the crisis in Ukraine. At least for the moment!

Goodnight to you and TOD. Tomorrow is another day … well, actually, tomorrow is here so I must be off!

      • April 14, 2014 at 2:27 am

Haven’t watched CNN since the early 90’s, Jacqueline, or any other cable or broadcast TV. Perhaps CNN is getting a clue that their ONLY value is being on the front line of world events. In any case, as our wonderful Ambassador Power and several other UN Ambassadors pointedly note to Churkin – the INTERNET RULES in the 21st Century!!

Wishing you a few hours of rest because what we, as humanity, now face is actually unprecedented.

“The administration of Barack Obama and Republicans in Congress eventually agreed to end the 16-day shutdown and suspended the $16.7 trillion limit. ”

    Good article….however they blame both sides for the Government shutdown…it was the GOP in Congress who shut down the government and led us to the brink of default;
