Bringing this over from the end of the last post.

If I’m not mistaken, Sterling has given to Democrats. The Right could easily turn around and say “See, a Dem racist!!11!11!!” But, no. The need to dismiss blatant racism is so ingrained in the Right that it’s fallen into line behind Sterling. And that’s why it will lose.

Now, off to sit on the porch and sip a Manhattan. BBL.

Actually, they’ve been using that logic and also pointing out that Robert Byrd was previously part of the KKK and was a Democrat. I just roll my eyes or block them on Twitter because that level of stupidity is so ingrained, nothing can help said stupid person.

The idea that a racist can’t be a Democrat or Republican is so blinkered. The bigger picture is that Democrats in 2014 are not lining up behind, propping up, and cheering racists every day of the week. The Republican party is. Exhibit A: Cliven Bundy. Exhibit B: The Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina. The Democratic party isn’t putting forward policies that disadvantage minorities. The Republican party is.

These days, whenever a racist persona pops up, no one has to ask is he/she a Democrat? Nope. And that’s what’s wrong with the GOP and why they will continue to lose minorities.

      • April 27, 2014 at 4:52 pm

Josh at TPM had a great post about the GOP’s race problem yesterday. Well worth a read. (And he uses a naught analogy, which was amusing.)

        And, on another matter:

        Blue is the colour
        Football is the game
        We’re all together
        And winning is our aim!

        CHELSEA! CHELSEA! CHELSEA!

Plashke is the doyen of L.A. sports. If he’s saying that, the Clippers’ brief residence at the top will be short lived, as players will want nothing to do with Sterling. It’s in the NBA’s interests to excise this tumor at once. Adam Silver’s triangulation will not do.

Wow, finally getting caught up on all of the posts of this overseas trip. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE provides more comprehensive coverage of the work our president is doing, particularly when overseas, like TOD. I’ve run out of superlatives. So just another heartfelt Thank you Miz Chips, NW and the TOD BTs.

Poor, poor feckless “Chuckles” Todd. Trying sooo hard to play “serious journalist” and our illustrious Prez treats his questions like the sweet pitch over the home plate and smacks it out of the park. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Our president on the world stage, used the question to elevate the discussion way beyond the crude salaciousness of yet another exposed racist to a teachable moment… We must not let racial animus divide us. Diversity is our strength. I. LOVE. MY. PRESIDENT. He is doing as Mighty Pamela put it a few posts back the #LightWork with unfailing grace no matter where is he.

Nerdy, how do you do it? You keep going and going and going, piling up one brilliant post after another with more information than we can absorb and you never miss a step. I’m panting just to keep up. I settle into one post and you’re off to another. You have the energy and stamina of an athlete. I am in total awe.

I really feel for those Clipper players, but I’m happy they felt that they had to do something to display their outrage. Tee shirts inside-out, black wrist bands and socks may seem like a small thing, but it speaks volumes. Having said that, I’m a bay area girl, so I’m pulling for the “Dubs!”

Yes it is. I hope the two teams embrace and show support for each other after the game ends. Kevin Johnson is right…this “incident” and how it’s handled will have major, historic ramifications for the NBA.

    April 27, 2014 at 5:32 pm

holy mackerel, you take some media time off and see what happens? I knew nothing about this until I read it here. I’m glad to see that the Clippers team and other people are taking action and bringing attention it to this.

And I love George Clooney. Still. ;-)

  16. April 27, 2014 at 5:39 pm

Again, this is the thing. We in L.A. have known what a scumbag Sterling is for decades. This is not news to us. And the NBA knew. However, if a *thug* player wears the wrong thing, he gets suspended. Mark Cuban calling out bad officiating gets fined. (Despise Cuban, but using him as an example.) But the worst owner in US professional sports again and again evinces racism, and crickets. I’m with Mayor Johnson: the NBA has much explaining to do. If the fanbase of the NBA was mostly white, shenanigans like this wouldn’t have been tolerated. But a sport perceived to be “black”, and nothing is done.

Euromaidan Exclusive: 2014 Reply of the Zaporozhian Kozaks to the Sultan (Putin)
Posted on April 27, 2014 by Adrian Bryttan

Euromaidanpr has translated an eMail addressed to Vladimir Putin by the same Zaporozhian Kozaks who in 1676 composed their classic reply to Sultan Mehmed IV when he demanded their submission. (The 17th century original and historical backgrounds are included at the bottom.)

O vile Defender of ‘Holy Russia’,
    Thou Putin, most magnanimous mouse,
    Before annoying peaceful neighbors,
Clean up the crap in your own house!

Your Moskva clansmen lurked in swamps
    And worshiped stumps of trees,
Your forefathers groveled, crawled and kissed
The muddy boots of Khans with obedient ease.

Full poem at the link: http://euromaidanpr.com/2014/04/27/euromaidan-exclusive-2014-reply-of-the-zaporozhian-kozaks-to-the-sultan-putin/

    Definitely worth reading!!!

      • April 27, 2014 at 6:44 pm

Thought you might enjoy it, LL. The historical versions are also quite entertaining – and, of course, I adore the history lesson that Putin’s insanity is actually enabling the world to learn. Ukrainians are going to prevail. They will not be denied their rightful legacy by Tzar Vlad.

I would post that lol emoticon if it wasn’t so ugly: when I opened this link, and was entirely captivated by the artwork leading the article, I had to stay there a while just drinking in how incredible these people must be! The illustration is one of the cleverest pieces of art I have ever seen, and I was an art major in college, as well as growing up in DC, where regular trips to the Nat’l Museum of Art were the lifestyle! :) :)

Scathing wit, the Ukrainian people. Despite their weariness of centuries old struggle and fighting the same battles again. 21st century technology makes them stronger than ever. Plus we support them as well.

Bob, this is the most classic putdown of all time–both the 17th century version and the updated one- an unbelievable, fearless series of insults directed against an arrogant tyrant. I love the updated painting with all the modern communications devices added on to the original figures. Really brilliant.

  20. April 27, 2014 at 7:20 pm

    This is very dangerous …

“‘Black Men’, the new defenders of Ukraine, announce mission to liberate Southeastern Ukraine from Russian terrorists

Today a video appeared on Youtube, in which ‘black men’ sent a message to the world and to Ukrainians from Southeastern Ukraine, as well as proclaimed their hunt for the ‘green men’ [Russian terrorists]:

“We, Ukrainians of the East, watching inaction of the authorities and absolute sabotage of local security forces, feel defenseless against separatists and occupiers. Realizing this, we take the mission of liberation of the Southeast from the occupiers in the person of saboteurs, so-called green men, traitors and separatists. Any violation of the territorial integrity of our country we perceive as an offense against the Ukrainians. Any assistance for occupiers we consider as nothing but a betrayal.

Owing to our actions today in Kharkiv the separatist coven is impossible. Moreover, our guerrilla units operate today also in Crimea – in Simferopol was burned the office of Putin’s party “United Russia.” Everyone who thinks that here – to the east, will arrive trains with Banderivtsy from Ternopil and Lviv I hasten to disappoint: most of us are from the southeast. We live here, we – your neighbors, we live in the same houses, go to the same hospitals, we educate your children, we shop in the same stores, our children play with yours in the same backyards.”

    More at the link:

Ukrainian government has been restrained in its actions against the separatists & their Russian military and FSB, etc., enablers, because they are doing everything possible to avoid Tzar Vlad invading under the pretext of ‘peace keeping.’ If these partisans aren’t just posturing and they start shooting folk it’s likely a full-scale invasion by Russia will ensue.

I accidentally signed something (I guess) at the dccc.org and I’ve been getting emails from them … which I will unsubscribe to, soon. Must have been something good that got my attention, since I dropped them a long time ago. Whoever writes their copy for these emails needs a little public relations training. If you receive them, you may have noticed their recent subject lines (I never get past those). Samples: all hope is lost, just since 10am, MAJOR EMBARRASSMENT, WHOA, FUMING, JAW-DROPPING, painful loss. Holding on to ‘em, so I can write and tell them why I’m cancelling. This is NOT how a party of strength ought to be soliciting ideas or donations. Maybe the content of their messages is better, but I’m too depressed after seeing the entrée that I won’t go there.

Bob, I’m surprised there hasn’t been more coverage of this outrageous kidnapping. It is profoundly stupid of this Russian group to think they could just capture OSCE reps without devastating consequences. It’s as if people are just ‘acting out,’ without putting two coherent thoughts together beforehand.
