Julie Miller: George Clooney Interrupts Engagement To Eviscerate Las Vegas Hotel Mogul

Wynn decided to make an appearance on Bloomberg to dredge up the old argument and further diss the groom-to-be. “George didn’t call me an asshole,” Wynn said. “He was a little into the tequila, but he is fun to be with. He’s a good storyteller. . . .George Clooney is fun to be with. . You just have to watch your timing.” Presumably having had enough with Wynn’s condescension and self-serving cable interviews, Clooney has issued a new statement in which he eviscerates the hotel tycoon’s argument piece by piece.

george-clooney-president-obama-fundraising-event

Steve Wynn and I have met three times, two times for dinner. That is the extent of our knowledge of one another, so I will refrain from trying to categorize him based on the little time we’ve spent together, but I will not let his version of the truth go unchallenged. He now says he didn’t call the president an ‘a——.’ That is false. He bellowed ‘I voted for the a——,’ and then called him the same thing several more times as the dinner came to an abrupt end. Again there were eight people at the table, eight witnesses. I did in turn, call him the same body part, and walked out. Again he can make up whatever story he wants, but these are the facts. He said I drank 16 shots of tequila. I didn’t drink one shot of tequila, not one. We were drinking but it was early and we still had two events to attend.

He said I live in a bubble. More of a bubble than Las Vegas? Honestly? He says I’m ‘molly coddled,’ that I’m surrounded by people who coddle me. I would suggest that Mr. Wynn look to his left and right and find anyone in his sphere that says anything but ‘yes’ to him. Emphatically. I did not attend a private boys’ school, I worked in tobacco fields and in stock rooms, and construction sites. I’ve been broke more of my life than I have been successful, and I understand the meaning of being an employee and how difficult it is to make ends meet. Steve is one of the richest men in the world and he should be congratulated for it, but he needs to take off his red sparkly dinner jacket and roll up his sleeves every once in a while and understand what most of the country is actually dealing with … or at least start with the fact that you can’t make up stories when eight people who are not on your payroll are sitting around you as witnesses.

What happens in Vegas . . . doesn’t stay in Vegas when you are George Clooney and get in an argument with a hotel tycoon over President Obama. “There were 9 people at that table. . .So you can ask them. . .Steve likes to go on rants. . .HE called the president an asshole. . . that is a fact. . .I said the President was my longtime friend and then he said ‘your friend is an asshole.’ . . .At that point I told Steve that HE was an asshole and I wasn’t going to sit at his table while he was being such a jackass. And I walked out. There were obviously quite a few more adjectives and adverbs used by both of us. Those are all the facts. It had nothing to do with politics and everything to do with character.”

George Clooney’s response was AWESOME & PITCH PERFECT!

Loved it when he called out Steve Wynn accusing him of living in a bubble. I will never stay at a Wynn hotel ever! What a bitter, narcissistic, petty loser!

I went back and read Joel McHale’s lines from his comedy bit, and some of it reads funnier than how he actually delivered them. I get that he was trying to expose GOP hypocrisy, but I cringed at times, that the absurdity and humor of how ridiculous the GOP are was lost in the way he came off sounding like a jerk…. President Obama made jabs, but he did it in a very lighthearted way, and it actually emphasized how silly and stupid the the GOP have been.

I think there was plenty to go after Christy about politically, I did not like the jokes about the weight. That’s just cheap.

I heard that the reason why the President usually goes first is that they didn’t want to have the President go after a “professional” comedian and flop. I can see that makes sense for most Presidents. But I feel bad for the comedians, every single year President Obama has hit it out of the park with his humour. I think of all the comedians, I liked Wanda Sykes best, then Seth Myers.

“I heard that the reason why the President usually goes first is that they didn’t want to have the President go after a “professional” comedian and flop.”

I agree with you pinkbunny that that was a reasonable concern which may have been justified in the past, however with President Obama, that concern and its justification have been. PBO should ALWAYS be the last event – and that’s true not only for the WHCD. We saw an example of this during the Mandela Memorial event — the program just fell flat once PBO had completed his speech and people started leaving. Of course, there is also the problem of people getting antsy and agitated BEFORE the President speaks because they’re anxious to have him come on… :) :)

Checking in after a 24 hour total immersion with a 20 month old. Nothing else can claim you attention while you focus on the little one, not to mention accompanying parents and family. Son is with us for the remainder of the week, but there is beginning to be some light in the schedule for other things. Finally saw, read, and LOVED the president’s WHPC dinner speech–better late than never–and catching up with Ukraine and other news. I so love all of you for stacking up all the information and having all the speeches and videos so easy to access. Makes it so easy to come back home here and catch up. Where else could this happen?

Thanks for uploading the post, Chiparoo.

Just when I think I can’t loooooooove George Clooney any more, he proves me wrong. What he displayed in his interaction with Steve Wynn is called character.

This statement summed it up: “He said I live in a bubble. George Clooney like President Barack Obama gets it. He understands the real world and I suspect that’s why he and President Obama clicked. He knows what it’s like to be on the crappy end of life and when life gives you that lucky break, don’t be a douchebag but reach back and help others. It’s great to see celebrities who use their platform for good and don’t let fame allow them to think they’re the best thing since sliced bread because it only takes a few bad movies or no sold out albums to become yesterday’s news; and George Clooney gets that.

I admire and adore George Clooney. He is intelligent, compassionate and extremely involved with the world outside of self-absorbed celebrity. Although he can joke and be silly and light-hearted, in every interview what invariably comes across is that he is a good man with a very good heart and soul. Someone with the courage of his convictions.

BRAVO to him for standing up for his own honor and that of the President. I love his retort and am grateful he took the time to correct that arrogant misrepresentation. BRAVO.

Agree, totally, meta. I think he also said he’s not on Twitter because he’d be prone to posting late-night truths, perhaps after partying (or something like that), which might turn out to be career-enders. Ha!

He’s a remarkable person from a great family.

      • May 4, 2014 at 5:04 pm

He’s done so much for causes he believes in, including raising money for POTUS. He doesn’t just sit around and count his money or gloat about his wealth like these other disgusting bozos.

PLUS, he’s incredibly handsome. But we already knew that!

Regarding the latest Benghazi rehash by the GOP in congress, we should start connecting their actions to the way they exploited the Terri Shriavo case back in 2005. They considered the Terri Schiavo case a “Great Political Issue” that could pay dividends for the up coming midterms in 2006.

This article in the Washington Post details how they were using her case in hopes of Getting out the vote.

Yes, it was fun. My husband a few years ago decided he wanted to through a party in the springtime, 1st Saturday of May. We invite friends, family, some of husband’s, co-workers past and present. We didn’t have one last year, because it rained.

Most of them live in New York, so we don’t get to see them to much. The guys go to a nearby field and play softball.

    http://mediamatters.org/blog/2014/05/04/sunday-news-shows-false-equivalence-is-drowning/199163

Hosts of the network Sunday news shows treated Benghazi myths and facts with false equivalence, an approach that hides the truth about the tragedy.

The right-wing’s manufactured hysteria over the release of new White House memos and the House GOP’s announcement that it would form a special select committee brought the September 11, 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya back into the spotlight on the May 4 Sunday news talk shows. The latest charge from conservative media is that a newly-released email from Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes preparing then-UN Ambassador Susan Rice for the September 16, 2012 Sunday talk shows — where she suggested that the terror attacks had grown out of spontaneous protests — was part of a deliberate effort to deceive the American people about the cause of the attacks.

In a seeming effort to provide false balance between the facts and the myths, the network news hosts lent credence to evidence-free claims by their guests, giving them equal weight with the truth.

Haven’t gotten through all the threads posted here in the last 24 hours, but did see GoBrooklyn ask about @NYCjim’s tweet:

I agree with VC, that this might be a failed attempt at snark. Who could think “tight smile” when they see this photo?

I consider @NYCjim the non-RWNJ version of the Drudge Report.

He tweets lots of Ripley’s Believe It or Not stuff, along with foreign coverage and tech updates (which pays his salary at Mashable).

The Mashable link is worth checking out.

“Traditionally, although not always, the president and first lady attend the dinner, which raises money for journalism-scholarship recipients. The number of Hollywood celebrities and athletes in attendance has varied through the years, but has hit a high note recently during the Obama administration.”

    And this twitter GIF:

  20. May 4, 2014 at 7:14 pm

“The head of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Administration, Ihor Kolomoyskyy, is calling for the creation of a council of governors of Southeastern Ukraine, according to his statement posted on the website of the Oblast State Administration, as reported by Ukrainska Pravda, May 4.

“As a result of a chain of political events, including those inspired from outside the country, Ukraine is in grave danger of losing its territorial integrity,” Kolomoysky says. Since the scenarios for this threat will be played out first of all in the southeast oblasts, Kolomoysky argues for the absolute necessity of creating a coordinating body to ensure organized and effective work by the governors in these areas.

“I propose that very soon we create a Board of the Governors of Southeastern Ukraine and include the heads of the oblast administrations of the Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolayiv and Odesa oblasts,” he says.

According to Kolomoysky, the main task of the Board of Governors would be to create the necessary conditions for holding transparent and honest presidential elections in Ukraine on May 25, 2014, under the supervision of international observers.”

    HAPPY SUNDAY VCPREZOFAN2!
Read your post: Teenagers can cause us to age quickly without warning (been there). Hope this gives you a smile-2 can play the game : )

Parents of teenagers; they know when they don’t know “EVERYTHING”-

    MOM! DAD!

    I NEED HELP!

    My child came
    home from school one day,
With a smirk upon the face.
    child
    decided child was smart enough,
To put me in my place.

    ‘Guess
what I learned in Civics Two,
    that’s taught by Mr. Wright?
    It’s
    all about the laws today,
    The ‘TEENAGER’S Bill of Rights.’

    It
says I need not clean my room,
Don’t have to cut my hair
    No one
can tell me what to think,
Or speak, or what to wear.

    I have
    freedom from religion,
    And regardless what you say,
    I don’t have
    to bow my head,
And I sure don’t have to pray.

    I can wear
    earrings if I want,
And pierce my tongue & nose.
    I can read
& watch just what I like,
Get tattoos from head to toe.

    And
    if you ever spank me,
I’ll charge you with a crime.
    I’ll back up
    all my charges,
With the marks on my behind.

    Don’t you ever
    touch me,
My body’s only for my use,
    Not for your hugs and
    kisses,
    that’s just more child abuse.

    Don’t preach about
    your morals,
Like your Mama did to you.
    That’s nothing more than
    mind control,
    And it’s illegal too!

    Mom, I have these
    ‘TEENAGER’S’ rights,
    So you can’t influence me,
    Or I’ll call
    Children’s Services Division,
    Better known as C.S.D.’
    *******************************************
    Mom’s
    Reply and Thoughts

    Of course my first
    instinct was
To toss ‘TEENAGER” out the door.
    But the chance to teach
    ‘TEENAGER” a lesson
Made me think a little more.

    I mulled it over
    carefully,
    I couldn’t let this go.
A smile crept upon my face,
    ‘TEENAGER’
    messing with a pro.

Next day I took ‘TEENAGER” shopping
    At the
    local Goodwill Store.
I told ‘TEENAGER”, ‘Pick out all you want,
    TEENAGER”’s
    shirts & pants galore.

I’ve called and checked with C.S.D
    ….
    Who said they didn’t care
If I bought you K-Mart shoes
    Instead
    of those Nike Airs.

    I’ve canceled that appointment
    To take
    your driver’s test.
    The C.S.D. Is unconcerned
    So I’ll decide
    what’s best. ‘

I said ‘No time to stop and eat,
    Or pick up
    stuff to munch.
And tomorrow you can start to learn
    To make your
    own sack lunch.

    Just save the raging appetite,
    And wait till
    dinner time.
    We’re having liver and onions,
    A favorite dish of
    mine.’

‘TEENAGER’ asked ‘Can I please rent a movie,
    To watch on my
    VCR?’
‘Sorry, but I sold your TV,
For new tires on my car.

I also rented out your room,
    You’ll take the couch instead.
    The
    C.S.D. Requires
Just a roof over your head.

    Your clothing
    won’t be trendy now,
    I’ll choose what we eat.
    That allowance
    that you used to get,
    Will buy me something neat.

I’m selling off your jet ski,
    Dirt-bike & roller blades.
    Check
out the ‘Parents Bill of Rights’,
    It’s in effect today!

    Hey
    hot shot, are you crying,
Why are you on your knees?
    Are you
asking God to help you out,
    Instead of C.S.D…?’

    {I have felt more than once that Bibi Netanyahu is an idiot; intelligent maybe, but an idiot nonetheless. Unprincipled and selfish too, not leader material.}

The failure of the latest round of Israel-Palestine talks is going to result in a rude awakening for Israel. The administration isn’t hiding that they almost exclusively blame Israel for the failure. Specifically, they blame the settlers and their most ardent supporters, and the fact that Netanyahu’s government cannot survive if he makes certain required concessions. Here’s an anonymous senior government official closely involved in the talks:
    …………………………..

Reading between the lines, the Americans are basically telling the Israelis that they just screwed themselves. And I think that’s sadly, true. They could have had an agreement reached by mutual settlement, along with the good will of most of the world. They will not get that now. Instead, they will get boycotted and the international community will rally around the Palestinians.

And the American left is about fed up, even at the highest levels of our government.

VC, he is both an idiot and gutless. If he truly cared about a Democratic Israeli State he had real partners, in the US, the EU & the Palestinians, to make that happen. He FAILED and will own it and all the consequences.

Secretary Kerry’s assessment is correct. Israel will either be a non-Jewish democratic state or it will be an apartheid state. In either case, it will be loathed by much of the population of the planet for decades, if not longer.

Also, Bobfr, if he cared one iota for the future of the Israeli youth. Though I haven’t met him, I’ve disliked Bibi from the moment he abused PBO’s hospitality while visiting, and nothing he has since done has changed my feeling. It’ll be a pity that everyday Israeli citizens will suffer for his shortsighted cowardice.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAROLMAEWY!!!

I hope that you have enjoyed your day; lots of love, hugs, presents, laughter, good food and a fine glass of wine.

No heavy activity with hubby for celebration; no swinging from the chandelier, 6 inch red stilettos, bubbly champagne and rose petals thrown across the floor and bed. Let me see……other than this, you and Mr. CarolMaeWY have a WONDERFULLY DELICIOUS CELEBRATION : )

    {{{{{{{{{{CAROLMAEWY….IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY PARTY and you can do what you want to do-ENDJOY!}}}}}}}}}}

    Warmest Birthday wishes,
    Cindy

When all else fails, commission another another meaningless poll to make them feel good about their worthless selves…

      Happy Sunday Mr. Bobfr!

Thank you sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much for the updates. This is just unbelievable but President Obama would do the same for his haters. I am praying for this situation to be resolved it is so senseless. Putin will have to answer to a Higher Power one day for his misgiven towards the human race. May that day come sooner rather than later.

By the way Mr. Bobfr, I am so convinced that you are traveling the country to stay on top of the news for us. Are you “secretly” working with President Obama’s team? : ) You are AWESOME!!! THANK YOU A MILLION and ONE!

“This is just unbelievable but President Obama would do the same for his haters.”

Of this, I have ZERO doubt, Cindy.

Thank you for your kind words. No, I’m just an ordinary citizen trying to contribute whatever I can to sustaining the promise of America and humanity. Only wish I could do more.

I’ve had a day:) Been remiss in saying Happy Birthday to CarolMae..Happy Birthday!! Special thanks to Nerdy for this post:) I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE George Clooney. My friends know, my kids know (they used to think that I’d kick their dad to the curb in a hot second for George:)…and yes, even my husband knows:) This Wynn thing and issues like this, are WHY I love him so much…yes, it goes to character. One of those men has it, one doesn’t. I got to say, though I’m so glad that he found his lady love and his intellectual equal, it’s bittersweet for me….a girl can fantasize about these sorts of things, can’t she? Would love to sit around talking about politics and world affairs over cocktails…. just sayin’…. He’ll always be a good guy in my book. This is what a true friend looks like.

So much tragedy could have been avoided ….

… if Kennedy and Johnson had listened to one of the only Americans who had a clue where Vietnam was as well as being someone Ho trusted.
