Good evening Chips, TOD, lurkers, everyone, and congrats vc on #1! Looks like I missed all this good O’fun all day! :) Glad to finally settle in and relax on TOD!

    Congrats on 1st VC!!!

From the bottom of the previous page ….

“Putin’s people pulled this “rather unfortunate” report from the President’s Human Rights Council website, but council member Svetlana Gannushkina talked about this subject on Kanal 24 (as reproduced on Ukrainian television), declaring that the Crimean vote “discredited Russia more than could be dreamed up by a foreign agent.””

This is important and must be made widely known because it’s the same type of stunt he’s trying to organize throughout Eastern/Southern Ukraine.

Bob this is important and should be on every international news station and newspaper front page. Everything about Putin is a fraud and every word is a lie. The people of Ukraine were railroaded into an untenable situation against their will and almost no one in the world knew it at the time. Vlad is not only a petty dictator, he’s a hamfisted one who hasn’t even the intelligence to know that outrages like this can’t be hidden for long in today’s world. I hope he ends up as an international laughing stock.

Tell Mark Knoller to either get his facts straight as a professional journalist or NOT refer to schoolgirls as “women.” That’s offensive.

Y’know, the dethroning of Hillary Clinton cannot happen soon enough for me. I’ve been wrong on plenty of things in my life, but one thing I know for dang sure is that there is NO WAY she can win a national election. This rothschild bs is just another indication of her lack of ever having a real clue, and it’s not gonna stop with this. I knew it in 2008 as soon as PBO entered the race, when the ‘polls’ had her initially ahead by some ridiculous %, and I know it now (and, honestly, I really don’t say that about a lot of things!). Is anyone else’s gut as sure about this?

  18. May 5, 2014 at 8:36 pm

There’s an interesting article in the Moscow Times by Alexander Golts, deputy editor of the online newspaper Yezhednevny Zhurnal.

Golts says that the motivation behind the Russian special forces action in eastern and southern Ukraine is to cause chaos so that the May 25 Presidential election can be declared invalid.

From the article (skip to the last line if you’re pressed for time):

“The Kremlin’s strategic plan became clear over the May holidays. It intends to destabilize the southern and eastern regions of Ukraine with an insurgency. The resulting chaos and de facto civil war will enable Moscow to proclaim Ukraine’s May 25 presidential election as illegitimate and Putin will send a clear message to any former Soviet republic that it should not even consider establishing closer ties with Europe.

At the same time, however, NATO Deputy Secretary-General Alexander Vershbow said last week that the alliance had no other choice under the present circumstances but to view Russia as a potential adversary. Meanwhile, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has urged Western nations to boost military spending. Although it will not happen overnight, the remilitarization of Europe and the U.S. will happen relatively quickly. Once it does, Russia will become locked into another arms race with the West. And as everyone knows, the last one ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union.”

The article highlights that since WWII, public appetite for the death of civilians is the reason behind failures by skilled military such as US involvement in Somalia (1993), Iraq and Afghanistan.
“In most cases, though, the fear of killing civilians dissuades leaders from carrying out such operations. That was the case with the U.S. Army in Somalia in 1993, and again 10 years later in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has nothing to do with the skill of the troops involved. Ever since World War II, the public’s values have changed regarding the acceptable number of casualties in any military conflict.’

Have a lot of respect for John, but he’s only half-correct. Putin is destroying Russia, of that there’s no doubt. However, he will not prevail in Ukraine – Ukrainians won’t allow that to happen.

      • May 5, 2014 at 8:49 pm

To be clear – John is only half-correct by forwarding that Moscow Times article. Same applies to the author.

        May 5, 2014 at 9:59 pm

I read that Bobfr and immediately thought … he will not win in Ukraine. Not in this day and age with all the available technology. Putin cannot “spin” this and I am with you that the Ukrainians will not allow it to happen. They create their own destiny.

Wow, Arapaho, Russia seems to be slithering back into another time, narrowing and coarsening its culture in the process. This is how a country debases art and becomes a place of mediocrity.

The thing about Lupita that I really love is that she always enjoys herself no matter where she is. And that’s a sign that she has acquired a tremendous confidence, a realization that this is her moment, rightfully.

        May 5, 2014 at 8:55 pm

You nailed it. That’s also why everyone seems to love her and has such nice things to say about her. She isn’t taking the moment for granted or the doors its opened up for her. She is soaking everything in and looking fabulous while doing it.

Nerdy, the number of people in the world who could pull off wearing and looking fabulous is this dress is miniscule. She is one in several million.

Seem to me Hillary isn’t being to smart. I hope VP Biden do run in 2016.

    • May 5, 2014 at 9:18 pm

I didn’t remember those comments by deRothschild, but this short article offers a succinct reminder.

      What an awful person.

And you know, we’ll be hearing/seeing gossip about the “Clinton baby bump” until the infant is born.

      I’m ignoring Hillary.

If Joe Biden doesn’t run (and Carolyn makes good points about age), I’d like to see a Martin O’Malley-Deval Patrick ticket. What the Dems could use are unapologetic progressives, not the mealy-mouthed triangulation and last century’s ideas and cronies that HRC offers. If Deval Patrick were running for President, expect the RWNJ machine go into overdrive because they couldn’t handle seeing two Black Presidents in a row.

Apparently the fundraiser is not for Hillary.

‘Hillary Clinton will be the star attraction at a May 15 fundraiser for her daughter’s mother-in-law, Marjorie Margolies, who is running for a Pennsylvania congressional seat, POLITICO has learned.’

      • 82 jacquelineoboomer
        May 5, 2014 at 9:58 pm

Well, that’s what they say, but all the publicity will be for Hillary, as planned. My opinion.

I hadn’t even realized that her daughter had married into a ‘political’ family. They sure work hard to try and keep ‘the crown’ accessible within only a very small group!

I get U. The lengths they have gone through to discredit PBO have been quite eye-opening.

              • 86 jacquelineoboomer
                May 5, 2014 at 10:10 pm

Didn’t give it much thought at the time, after HRC was selected for SoS (which was another class act by PBO), but guess I never really felt she’d try for the White House again. We’ll see if she does, but I cannot believe their lust for power and self-aggrandizement. Both of ‘em.

                • 87 vcprezofan2
                  May 5, 2014 at 10:23 pm

I’m in wait-and-see mode too, because I still am thinking she and Bill may show less selfishness and more class. Frankly though I won’t be surprised if they don’t.

To my mind, if the Clintons go after 2016 it will be a sure indication that they do not care about the country’s future at all, whatever they may say to the contrary. IMO, you have only to look at/listen to them in action to realize that they do not represent the FUTURE. They say NOTHING that reveals a world class 21st century VISION for the country. Frankly, I believe their comments, actions and choice of political ‘friends’ say their effectiveness has long passed its ‘use before’ date. There is no point Dems supporting them out of nostalgia. Plus, and I don’t mean to be cruel here, Bill looks ‘tired’.

Here’s a couple of articles that you might be interested in.

From Apr 30 about the gift of Ann Dunham’s papers given to President Obama in the Philippines (posted late yesterday in one of the last threads of a very busy 24 hour period):

“She was a figure in her own right, respected by the people who worked with her,” said Robert M. Orr, the U.S. ambassador to the Asian Development Bank, who asked the ADB staff to search the microfiche archives for traces of Dunham’s work. “These records show that so clearly.”

The article also says that the Tagalog and Bahasa Malaysia words that PBO speaks are delivered with an Indonesian accent (fascinating):

From Friday, the day that Angela Merkel was in DC. Back when we had an MSM instead of a GOP/Koch propaganda machine, some sage network radio or television anchor would have called McCain out on his treacherous behavior. However, crickets from our MSM/Koch.

I have a BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS!!

    http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2014/5/5/oil-bush-land-commissionertexas.html

George P. Bush — a son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, nephew of former President George W. Bush and grandson of former President George H.W. Bush — is expected to handily win his race for Texas land commissioner in November after easily shaking off a primary opponent in March.

If he does, he will be responsible for managing the state’s vast public lands and extracting royalty fees from the oil and gas companies that drill on them.

A distinguishing feature of George P. Bush’s quest for public office: a campaign war chest totaling $2.2 million — a significant portion of that money furnished by the same industry he will go on to regulate if he wins.

A glance at the names populating his campaign’s list of top-level donors reveals a who’s who of the state’s wealthiest oil and gas executives.

Anne Marion, heiress to the fortune of Fort Worth–based Burnett Oil Co., gave $50,000, according to reports filed with the Texas Ethics Commission and compiled by The Texas Tribune. Jan Rees Jones, wife of Trevor Jones, president and CEO of Dallas-based Chief Oil & Gas provided another $50,000. James Henry, a longtime veteran of the oil industry and chair of Henry Resources LLC, another oil and gas exploration firm, lent $40,000 to the effort. Syed Javaid Anwar, president of Midland Energy, kicked in $40,000.

In all, Al Jazeera tabulated that individuals tied to energy companies contributed at least $450,000 to Bush’s first political effort.

They played a video of one of the member of that group talking about they were going to sell the girls. Also this journalists talked about how sorry the response of the leader of Nigeria has been.

Good news from PA re Obamacare. I didn’t think this state would do well due to the opposition from Corbett and the virtual shutout of news from the media, but it looks as if the navigators persevered and triumphed.
