I even like how Bloomberg is shown with our President in these photo selections, vice Rudy. And I’m not that crazy about Bloomberg.

This event was done very well. It opened with a chorus of young people singing and it was so simple and glorious. The mixed media presentations were beautiful. POTUS was tremendous – gracious, profound, humble. You could see that he was really stirred by all of it.

I turned it off when Giuliani came to the podium. Just not into him and the way he’s exploited this horrific tragedy for his own personal gain.

Meta, our president is truly peerless. His words were simple, but so moving, I couldn’t stop the tears. So many lives were changed that day and there were thousands of stories to tell, but the one story of the young man with the red handkerchief told it all. Simply cannot imagine how that mother could cope.

As a self-taught behaviorist, Richardson has broken every safety rule known to man when developing a personal bond with lions. Breaking with the misconception that sticks and chains is the best way to subdue a lion, he uses love, understanding and trust to get close to them. ‘Our credo No Stitch No Story’ is literally applicable to him,’ Meijer explains. ‘He’s a role model for our brand, because he is really a guy with stitches and stories all over his body. I’m reading his book right now, and what he does is not without risks. But he’s confident in what he does, and confident men dare to take decisions and risks. I believe a good suit that fits your taste and character, can make a man feel good and trigger confidence, which encourages him to take the next step.’…. Full back story http://ajanaku.com/no-stitch-no-story-behind-the-scenes-with-van-gils-kevin-richardson/

Question: How did you come about to work with lions?
Answer: ‘Coming from a precarious youth, in the back of my mind I knew what was right and wrong. I eventually found my passion. I try to inspire people to pursue their goals and reach out for their dreams. Passion comes from being inspired. For me, it were animals. I was always inspired by nature. I didn’t know it would be lions back then. But the lion is nature’s biggest predator. They are at the top. Lions require a lot of habitat. At the moment, the habitat is being distracted due to human encroachment – humans are in the increase. By protecting lions and habitat, you protect all other species that fall under that. In that respect, you’re protecting all animals. Six or seven years ago, I was asked by a journalist once, what is your legacy? Really my legacy will be to give back the habitat to the animals. Increasing the amount of lions in nature.’…..

I do not understand animal tamers, of whatever animal variety. I just don’t! In the same way I do not understand people who take chances with real extreme sports or choose to climb almost inaccessible mountains….. or deliberately (for no sensible reason) visit countries where they know there are major violent conflicts.

Spud Webb and Dominique Wilkins were a fun dunking duo……growing up in Charlotte, our fan favorite was little Muggsy Bougues…then with the Hornets……turned Bobcats…….back to Hornets next year :)

I enjoyed watching Mugsby Bogues play for Wake Forest (ACC baby).

By the way, that’s the late, great shot-blocking king Manute Bol in the picture above with Mugsy (rather than Dominique Wilkins, whom I had a major crush on back in the day when he played for my Atlanta Hawks). :-)

        • May 16, 2014 at 1:48 am

Yes that’s Manute(was trying to show the incredible discrepancy in their heights)……. I still remember the game where he hit like 6 3′s….. I was just referring to Spud’s teammate at the time in reference to dunking….. I can’t remember who was coaching them at the time…. I think Lenny Wilkins or Fraschilla… I remember those old Wake Forest teams….Rodney Rodgers, Tim Duncan came after that as well.

Ukrainian Soldiers Did Not Kill Pro-Russian Separatist in Mariupol (Investigation)

“On May 9 we uploaded a video where Ukrainian soldiers who took part in antiterrorist operation, wounded a couple of pro-Russian activists and, as we thought, even shot one. As it appears, Russian propaganda and skills in sharing and creating disinformation managed to fool us and a great part of media society. We apologize for that misunderstanding. The picture looked very real and we were sure that Russia won’t speculate on deaths of people and their freedom. As it appears – Russian government is capable of doing everything including the creation of a theater performance that can fool lots of people.

To prove them wrong and to show that UKRAINIAN SOLDIERS DID NOT KILL EVEN ONE PRO-RUSSIAN ACTIVIST (we are not talking about the actual terrorists here who took their weapon and started shooting Ukrainian soldiers), here’s a documentary investigation with all the facts, people and scenario that had been played that day. This investigation material was posted on http://maidanns.blogspot.com by Nataliya Sarazhynska in Russian. We would like to offer you a detailed translation of the article. It is another proof that Russian media and Russian strategies can be very unpredictable and very cruel.”

Very detailed analysis at the link – what you’d call ‘investigative journalism’ for real – http://ukraineinvestigation.com/pro-russian-separatists-mariupol-investigation/

What an AMAZING collection of posts today – just blew me away – was a “2 cups of coffee needed” day – to get through them all. Now I should do something – but maybe not :)

I think this link (thankyou to the person who posted it a few threads back” should be read by anyone who thinks there is any truth to FOX polling. The push polling is frightening in what it attempts to do.

“But it’s question #27 that jumped out at me.

“In the aftermath of the Benghazi terrorist attacks, the Obama administration incorrectly claimed it was a spontaneous assault in response to an online video, even though the administration had intelligence reports that the attacks were connected to terrorist groups tied to al Qaeda. Do you think the Obama administration knowingly lied about the attacks to help the president during the ongoing re-election campaign, or not?”

Remember, this is a question in a poll conducted by an ostensible news organization. It effectively asks, “The administration totally lied. Do you think the administration knowingly lied?”

Making matters worse, Fox News isn’t just offering a case study in how not to conduct a legitimate poll, it’s also failing in other important ways.”

    http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/adventures-fox-news-polling-part-vi

    • May 15, 2014 at 9:16 pm

The network news (ABC, CBS, NBC) aren’t as audacious in their poll questions, but the people selected for polling are basically GOP base — white, landline, older, while insisting that Dems don’t vote in non-Presidential elections.

  14. May 15, 2014 at 9:14 pm

September 11th is such a shocking evil — unable to add anything meaningful to today’s memorial.

But it is Throwback Thursday, right?

Look at this article from March 27, 2008 which opens with a reference to Senator Barack Obama’s rebuttal to GWBush’s 2008 State of Union speech in January.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/27/us/politics/27voters.html?_r=0

“Senator Barack Obama’s videotaped response to President Bush’s final State of the Union address— almost five minutes of Mr. Obama’s talking directly to the camera — elicited little attention from newspaper and television reporters in January.

But on the medium it was made for, the Internet, the video caught fire. Quickly after it was posted on YouTube, it appeared on the video-sharing site’s most popular list and Google’s most blogged list. It has been viewed more than 1.3 million times, been linked by more than 500 blogs and distributed widely on social networking sites like Facebook.”

So basically the MSM learned absolutely nothing from Senator Obama’s campaign. The MSM has entrenched themselves in horserace speculation and present their hot air as “political news.”

After #LandslideDems2014, it’s going to dawn on the non-partisan public how worthless the MSM is. Perhaps they (the MSM) are sealing their own fate by being such GOP-partisan gossips who are wrong about almost everything having to do with team Obama-Biden.

I got to this article via the link in this tweet:

NCLB, what really puzzles me about people like this is that they always say they’re not racists, which leaves the obvious question of what on earth do they think a racist is? The racist isn’t somebody else, it’s the one they see in the mirror.

    • May 15, 2014 at 10:20 pm

I think GWB, Cheney, Condi Rice and their fellow war criminals realized that they’d turn a solemn event toxic by being present. It’s not as if every person in that audience is unaware that GWB cleared brush while Condi was fanning him with the intel report that OBL was gonna strike. And, it’s not as if everyone in that audience is unaware that GWB ‘lost interest in finding OBL’ while joking about not finding Saddam’s WMD.

    Quote from the article:

“I believe I did use the ‘N’ word in reference to the current occupant of the Whitehouse,” Copeland said in an excerpt from an email he sent to his fellow police commissioners acknowledging his remark and then forwarded to O’Toole. “For this, I do not apologize — he meets and exceeds my criteria for such.”

And some of the comments, whew. Fortunately there are also many reasonable comments.

"According to the Director of the Center for Political and Military Studies Dmytro Tymchuk, Ukrainian forces who participate in antiterrorist operation received reinforcement. New soldiers have great experience in peacemaking operations on the territory of Iraq and have valuable war experience.

“It is very encouraging that in ATO HQ authorities have made some changes. Now there are people who can share their experience from war mission in Iraq. These are not office and parquet generals anymore but people who used to work in these kinds of situations and this is really encouragins,” said Dmytro Tymchuk.

He also added that back in Iraq they had pretty much the same situation regarding the elections as they have in Ukraine today."

Throughout every aspect of Ukrainian Government the wretched, corrupt servants of Yanukovych and his fellow #Kleptocrats are being extricated and replaced with individuals who are capable and care greatly for their country.

    • May 15, 2014 at 9:53 pm

BTW, if you scroll through that Facebook page of the Ukrainian Armed Forces you may notice some rather exceptional young women in service to their country.

From all I’ve been able to read over the past 6 months, I could not agree more with something that our Ambassador Daniel B. Baer stated to the Permanent Council of OSCE …

“In closing I’d just like to point out one poll that was released this week. There has been a lot of focus on this poll that polled a thousand people from across Ukraine. One of the questions that was asked and the one that has gotten the most headlines was whether the people felt more loyal to Europe or Russia, and I understand why that’s interesting to headlines. But to me the most interesting part of this poll was that it had asked people in Ukraine whether they were optimistic about the future, and 80% of them said they were optimistic about the future. I think that is a sign of great hope and a reminder to all of us of the importance of the election on May 25 and the opportunity that it presents to the people of Ukraine to start to move forward together and to build that better stronger future as one.”

Inspirational. And you are right, some very exceptional young women. Also some very young men, almost boys. Those soldiers, airmen, etc. are part of the reason so many Ukrainians feel optimistic about the future.

Bob, do you think there is one of the presidential candidates who can make the most of that Ukrainian optimism and be a successful leader? I’m having a hard time figuring out the candidates and have no notion of who’s likely to win. Ukraine has been fortunate in having an excellent interim president. I hope they choose wisely on May 25.

I also disliked the overlong report on the goons with the trip to DC – those people live on the publicity they generate which is way out of proportion to who they are and what they do. My grandbabe deserves more publicity than that lot.

This is truth, Hf. The so-called progressive media is way out of touch with Democrats on the ground. In the real world, we’re all working hard to make sure our current candidates have the support they need by reaching out to people and getting out the vote. In la la media land, they talk about 2016 like they’ve time traveled and have no connection to current events. It’s truly bizarre.

Three-year-old great grandson back here tonight (with his Mommy) from one-week trip to Orlando. He was in tears when the four adults whom he had dragged separately by the hand into the playroom, to see his new light-up sword thingie in the dark, left too soon ~ before his demonstration was over. You should have seen the four of us run back into the room, so he wouldn’t have a broken heart. Ah, the apologies and hugs, which he generously accepted.
