G’morning Chips, TOD, lurkers, everyone! Congrats Cindy – you’re on such a roll this Sunday morning!!

Thanks Chips for yet another spectacular Sunday R & S roundup.

I’m just posting a diary from Old Orange which speaks to what we at TOD witnessed live on Friday – our FLOTUS laying it down!

Thank you hopefruit2 for that article about FLOTUS speech in Topeka. Some of the comments talk of FLOTUS running for political office, and I say that will never, never, ever, ever happen. And I don’t blame her either.

If that doesn’t raise a red flag – it should. Fox News pundits NEVER “lash out” at anyone who insults PBO or FLOTUS. This whole thing was GOP-orchestrated….from start to finish…

Indeed 4more. Like people are so stupid they can’t see thru this B.S. I don’t know whether the media observed the (non) reaction that the Clintons’ got during their 9/11 memorial “appearance.” And this was in pro-Clinton NYC…

Apparently the media, like their GOP friends are a bit slow in the brain, spend to much time nursing their wishful thinking and fantasies, and about 2 steps behind the public in a lot of areas.

          May 18, 2014 at 10:29 am

i don’t think the media propagandists are dumb. in fact, i think they’re quite cunning in their misdirections, and they are doing it all on purpose. they know exactly what the game is and why they keep getting paid tons of money to constantly be wrong, for years and years.

          • 18 hopefruit2
            May 18, 2014 at 10:53 am

That’s true 44 – this repeated media “failure” to see the truth is not out of naivety or stupidity. It’s a propaganda machine. Lies are easily spread – and it’s harder for people to accept the truth after the fact – even the media pretends to correct misinformation to cover their sorry arses. Ezra Klein has perfected this art to the T – and he thinks people don’t know what he’s doing.

      May 18, 2014 at 10:24 am

it also seems the clinton have made a calculation that they didn’t do anything wrong in 2007-2008, and that they lost just because president obama was a uniquely talented opponent. i’ve been thinking that recently since the clintons are running the exact same playbook they did before, including these kabuki dances with republicans and the media, ESPECIALLY fox newz where owner rupert murdoch holds fundraisers for hillary. amazing to me how many democrats don’t see this.

    THE REAL SCANDAL ISN’T WHAT’S ILLEGAL, IT’S WHAT’S LEGAL.

    Washington’s open secret: Profitable PACs

    ——————————

With all the talk about members of Congress’ irreconcilable political differences, we wanted to see if they shared any common ground. And we found some. For example, there seems to be a permanent majority in Congress that’s completely satisfied with the current state of campaign financing and congressional ethics and members of both parties have institutionalized ways to skirt the rules and maintain the lifestyles that many of them have grown accustomed to.

As we learned when we first reported this story last October, most Americans believe it’s against the law for congressmen and senators to profit personally from their political office. But it’s an open secret in Washington that that’s not the case. As the saying goes the real scandal in Washington isn’t what’s illegal, it’s what’s legal.

This is BEAUTIFUL; to know that people are not willing to accept this blatant bigotry of hate for President Obama.

This is the same cop who would not “hesitate” to kill a black man and or black person. He is filled with hate and I pray, that his karma will pay him back 1,000,000 times 1,000,000 fold.

Funny how the media has swept this under the rug. Why is this not making the headlines? Instead, they are saturated with forcing Hillary and Bill Clinton on Americans before “we can decide who “we” want to vote for.”

Julian Castro gave the Keynote speech at the 2012 convention. That alone tells you that the Party thinks he has a big role to play.
    Then Mayor Castro was re-elected.
For months many people have been mentioning Julian as a VP pick. Here (by me) at TOD and in the general media.
So it is not surprising that the media will now knock themselves out in an effort to discredit 1) the importance of the HUD position. They will say it is a minor cabinet post. Not like SOS, for example.
    2) They will attempt to demean Mayor Castro or at least have article about him written by anti-POTUS propagandists. For example, the front page NY Times article on Julian Castro today was co-authored by Jonathan Martin, lately arrived from Politico and Peter Baker,GOP/Clinton operative.

The amount of negative coverage the GOP/MSM gins up will be the measure of how big a threat Julian is seen as!!!!!

      Good morning Vicki….

      HAPPY SUNDAY TO YOU!

Julian Castro is definitely a threat to the right wing arm of haters. He represents the “future” with boldness and clarity. I want to see the fresh players in the Democratic party such as; Castro brothers, Wendy Davis, Governor Deval Patrick, and a host of others. This coronation of Hillary has made me sick. All week, the networks were talking Hillary and referring to Billary as, “President Clinton.” Last time I checked, there is ONE President, and that is President Barack H. Obama.

hopefruit and Cindy 4more and others
At the risk of being repetitive I’ve been pointing out that Billary has the support of Michael Bloomberg and Rupert Murdoch. The 1% party.

At the 9/11 Museum dedication the Clintons were neither on the program nor mentioned by any speaker. Deliberate omissions.

Nevertheless, there they were being ushered around by Bloomberg.
Given a photo op with POTUS and FLOTUS.
As though the presence of Billary mattered to that particular event.

At risk of offending bts I admit I found it disappointing that TOD published photos including Billary.
Plenty more pictures of The President and Mrs. Obama would have been my choice.

ha, perfect! they got johnny boy martin on the case already? if my memory is correct, this is a guy who first gained attention for bringing flowers to cindy mccain at john mccain’s bar-b-que for the media propagandists in 2007. he also appeared in video gushing over the mccain family. he parlayed that huge journalistic achievement into his staged argument with president obama in the press room of the white house, when the PRESIDENT was light-heartedly walking through there simply to say hi to everyone. for that he got another big promotion to the “liberal” new york times.

i just learned the other day zeke miller is now the political “reporter” at time magazine. that guy is around 24 years old with no actual journalistic accomplishment such as some great investigations or breaking some big story. all these people such as miller, martin and so on, FAIL UP rapidly today because one thing they all share – a willingness to paint every single thing president obama does in a bad light, and to either ignore or downplay the historic level of republican malfeasance. this is all the billionaire-owners of the mainstream media care about today.

    Sunday Roundtable:

Why Hillary is indicting President? She didn’t mention President Obama in her “long speech” accept for mentioning his Domestic policies. Hillary is running from President Obama, so says Peggy N.

Peggy Noonan says; Hillary is doing what other Democrats are doing, distancing themselves from Obama. Republicans are presenting ideas and the Democrats are not doing anything.

Repukes on panel; Hillary is reminding everyone of the good years when her husband was President. She has nothing to say about the Obama’s economy.

They are doing their best to sour America against the President and the Democrats. Show me what those idiots repukes have done for this country lately?

I see it coming; soon Billy Boy will be in the black churches, and meeting with the black clergies saying; now we need your votes because we gave your people their first black President, and Hillary would have been better but she stepped aside for you all, now you owe us.

I don’t trust Bill and Hillary one bit and I don’t apologize, and I see them taking Obamacare apart, ‘IF” she gets in to appease the BIG BOYS.

She is distancing her self from the President; bragging about what her lying cheating husband did for “us” to steal President Obama accomplishments. It’s not the President’s economy that brought us through this rough period, it’s what Bill did for you people that you should be grateful for.

They are old news, old politics, and old ways that seeks to take us back to the old days.

    • 53 hopefruit2
      May 18, 2014 at 11:35 am

“Peggy Noonan says; Hillary is doing what other Democrats are doing, distancing themselves from Obama. Republicans are presenting ideas and the Democrats are not doing anything”

      100% FALSE…

      1) We don’t know what HRC is doing – and quite frankly we don’t really care at this point. We are focused on the 2014 midterms, which shows Democrats are poised to retain the Senate, and gain Governorships in key states.
      2) Democrats are not distancing themselves from Obama – in fact just the opposite. They are running on Obamacare and many of PBO’s key policies.
      3) Republicans and their friends in the media have run out of ideas and thus are stuck on Benghazi and using the Clintons as weapons against President Obama.

Furthermore, when Peggy Noonan says something – the opposite is true. Just check her Twitter TL the few days before the 2012 election, and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

    • 56 Don
      May 18, 2014 at 11:42 am

Cindy, as usual the Black Churches will fall for whatever Bill comes around shoveling. I’m getting to the point where I almost despise both Bill and Hillary. They refuse to play the role as good Democrats and I have yet to hear them praise President Obama’s many accomplishments, let alone acknowledge them. They aren’t running away from President Obama, because to be truthful with you, they never accepted President Obama as a true equal to begin with. Truth be told, the Clinton’s detest President Obama, they detest the very ground he walks on. They don’t even have the common courtesy to let President Obama be President. And if Black people think that Bill has forgotten about us voting for Barack and not Hillary, well then some Blacks have another thing coming. Bill Clinton for a long time thought he was the first Black President, right up until he found out differently. Bill Clinton is going to settle a lot of scores if Hillary becomes President.

      • 57 Cindy
        May 18, 2014 at 11:50 am

        Agreed Don,

They don’t like President Obama and they can’t even pretend to. This dislike for him is because Bill was crowned as the “first black President.” I “never” agreed with this coronation and I don’t know why African Americans went along this BS.

Yes, they will get to the black churches-I see it coming. Back door deals in the works and inch by inch they are going to chisel away at President Obama’s accomplishment. I don’t believe that they care anything about the President’s coalition, they believe Hillary got this locked up because she is a woman and it’s her time-period.

      • 58 hopefruit2
        May 18, 2014 at 12:57 pm

Thankfully the Black Community is no longer beholden to “Black churches” as they once might have been (and for the right reasons at the time). People are seeing the Churches for what they are – and with PBO’s election, many Black people’s eyes were opened as to the REAL agenda of some of those very churches that they once swore by.

The Black Church, like the CBC has to evolve with the times and stop trying to re-live the ’90s in 2016. I think if HRC distances herself from or subtly undermines PBO, that will be a bad move for the majority of independent-minded Black voters – regardless of what the “Black Church” says or does.

      • May 18, 2014 at 2:40 pm

How the Clinton’s ran their Primary in 2008 is hard to forget. I also remember Bill commenting that a few years earlier Barack Obama would have been serving them all drinks. There were many subtle racial comments that many picked up on. Hope the voters do not forget if there is a suitable opponent in the Primary in 2016.

The only way I see to defeat hill-bill combo is for the Obama coalition to stand firm during the primaries and vote for any other alternative. Sort out the primary first. Then we can talk about GE. If the non-whites & millenials fall for the inevitable and presumed nominee crap, they’ll get a rethug-lite or worse, a rethug admin.

    • 62 hopefruit2
      May 18, 2014 at 11:43 am

A rigorous Democratic primary will address all of that. If Hillary is as good a presidential candidate as some say, then she should withstand a Dem primary with all its grit, as PBO did in 2008. The media is trying to subvert the democratic process by literally and figuratively shoving Billary down our throats two years early so that she (and her policies) won’t be subject to the rigors of a Dem Primary. That won’t work. It didn’t work before, and it won’t work now or in the future.

      • 63 amk for obama
        May 18, 2014 at 11:49 am

If 2014 proves to be a 2010, PBO should pull no punches and start pushing Biden/Warren/Castro candidacy subtly first and not so softly alter, so that the primary voters get a clue that there is a real alternative. I want the presumed nominee crappy meme dead with 2014. Blacks and latinos and asians have to rise up once more.

            May 18, 2014 at 12:16 pm

Agree with Don Cindy amk hopefruit. Here’s a strategy:
Just as Billary and Allison L. Grimes fail to mention President Obama and his stupendous accomplishments we should avoid mentioning
the “first black president” and Lady Walmart unless it is in support of POTUS.

That is what happened at 9/11 Museum dedication and maybe it can become a pattern. We boost those who enhance the Obama Presidency and ignore those who do otherwise.
Go Julian Deval Elizabeth Wendy MOM, etc!

            • May 18, 2014 at 1:40 pm

Both Clintons’ have talked about PBO’s accomplishments. Maybe grudgingly but they’ve done it.

I understand it’s a tightrope in Kentucky but Grimes is working on reelecting Mitch McConnell if she keeps running from Obamacare in a state where it’s wildly popular. That’s a stupid strategy.

Hi AMK, the millennials don’t remember the Clinton “good old days”, they have moved on. But then again the young ones are not great at voting, they see the 2 parties as the same for the most part. (I have a 21 and 26 year old so they tell me this.) Minorities don’t trust the GOP, that is why the GOP is so heavily invested in Gov. Susana Martinez in New Mexico. Julian Castro is the political figures that Dems are grooming for the future. He has the temperament, the look and seems like a great man too. Clinton in 2008 had the nomination (we were told) but somehow the country went elsewhere. She is old school, she represents the past, we need a fresh face that represents the new makeup of our country. For now…we must focus on the mid-terms. If Billary wants to stay out of the midterms then that action alone speaks louder than any words they can possibly say. I will never forget her answer to a 2008 question during the primaries. Did she think Senator Obama was a Muslim? “No”…..pause “Not as far as I know”. Her intent was clear and from then on I have never trusted her, her husband and their motives. Hubris = Hillary + Bill.

You are right about the assassination reference. I remembered Bill’s comment about Obama would have been serving them drinks a few years back. Hillary set the stage for Palin’s constant palling around with terrorist cries and fearful rants that endangered Obama’s life.

A good explanation – and helps with understanding why the pundits have treated PBO in the same fashion ever since he was the candidate. They really thought Hillary would win, and were doing everything at that early stage to bring her down.

How anyone can call the political media “liberal” is beyond my understanding – they carry water for the GOP – always

President Obama: Harnessing the power of big business for change

‘I’ve written before about how President Obama’s time as a community organizer and his understanding of power relations informs his foreign policy and the development of the Obama Doctrine. See if you can connect those dots with why Max Fisher says his strategy of letting Putin hang himself is working.
    …………………..
As liberals we are often sucked into arguments about the evils of a globalized economy and we are certainly quick to demonize the “global investment community.” But what President Obama saw is that they have power – and that can be wielded for good as well as evil. ‘

Morning to all and Happy Sunday:) Nancy wrote another great piece: http://immasmartypants.blogspot.com/2014/05/president-obama-harnessing-power-of-big.html

Everyone else that rags on PBO always looks so small in my eyes. Time and time again, they refuse to see the panoramic world view and adapt to a quickly changing world. Small and petty vs a visionary, long term thinker….ummmm, what to do, what to do :)

It’s time to weigh in on ending the indefinite war

    //…………………

This week there will be bi-partisan efforts in both the House and Senate to reform and/or end the 2001 Authorization for the Use of Military Force that began our indefinite war.

Liberals who have been vocal in their opposition to the activities this war has enabled (Guantanamo prison, drone strikes, surveillance) have typically been silent about actually ending it. But President Obama has signed on to do just that.

Deval Patrick on Hillary Clinton: ‘I worry a little bit’
    Posted by CNN’s Ashley Killough

(CNN) – Gov. Deval Patrick said he’s concerned that the early attention surrounding Hillary Clinton’s potential 2016 presidential bid could spoil her prospects.

Asked on CNN’s “State of the Union” if he thinks the former secretary of state will go “all the way” in 2016, the Massachusetts Democrat said, “I don’t know.”

“I guess I worry a little bit,” he continued. “She’s an enormously capable candidate and leader. But I do worry about the inevitability thing, because I think it’s off-putting to the average…voter.”

Patrick noted that Clinton was considered the early-on favorite for the 2008 Democratic presidential primary as well but was famously bested by then-Sen. Barack Obama.

“As an enthusiastic Democrat, I just hope that the people around her pay attention to that this time around,” Patrick told CNN’s chief political correspondent Candy Crowley.

Governor Patrick, sir, your advice has fallen on deaf ears. The Clintons’ only know one thing, and it is inevitability. And once again it might be their undoing.

That’s the media’s game. I think hiring Jim Messina will cure Hillary of that because with him it’s about going out and getting the votes not kicking back with a cold one because the media has already decided who won.

Way too early. They may be confident they are going to win and truth to tell I have no problem with that. You should be confident of your chances.Behind the scenes they may be working like crazy. Only time will tell.

Listen up Hillary supporters, if Gov. Patrick were to run he has my vote. One problem for me with Hillary is Bill.

Holder swipes at Roberts on race
By JOSH GERSTEIN | 5/17/14 9:07 PM EDT

Attorney General Eric Holder took a swipe Saturday at Chief Justice John Roberts’s jurisprudence on the issue of race, arguing that forcing the government to be entirely color-blind isn’t the way to heal America’s racial ills.
    ………………………….

“Chief Justice John Roberts has argued that the path to ending racial discrimination is to give less consideration to the issue of race altogether. This presupposes that racial discrimination is at a sufficiently low ebb that it doesn’t need to be actively confronted. In its most obvious forms, it might be. But discrimination does not always come in the form of a hateful epithet or a Jim Crow-like statute,” Holder declared. “And so we must continue to take account of racial inequality, especially in its less obvious forms, and actively discuss ways to combat it.”

Holder was referring to Roberts’s plurality opinion in 2007 case which overturned the Seattle public school system’s use of race to improve diversity. “The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race,” the chief justice wrote.

The attorney general made clear again Saturday that he prefers the formulation Justice Sonia Sotomayor offered in her dissent from a Supreme Court ruling last month on Michigan’s affirmative action ban

    Very worthwhile reading ….

    “Some of Mr. DeFehr’s impressions:

The country is serious about a nuclear deal and optimistic about the outcome of negotiations to restrict Iran’s nuclear programs – as is U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

The new government is very different from its predecessors. It is moderate and wants better relations with the West. Iranians do not trust Russia. Iran wants to be respected. Pakistan is a serious security threat. “Arabs” are natural adversaries. (Iranians are Persians, after all.)

Iran has immense human capital. Literacy rates are very high – 98 per cent among youth. More than four million students are at postsecondary institutions. Millions of educated Iranians have left the country, and many continue to leave because they dislike theocratic elements of the regime.”
