That’s a lot of tweets! I’ve been missing the top photos in the blog posts today. What could be wrong, my iPad or WP?
Thanks for the new post NW.

The “Media” does know they just pretend not to know because they want you to tune in and give them ratings. They are just rating whores and could give to shits to the victims are telling the truth that the NRA and GOP/Dems who own them are also complicit in these murders and stoke the fires not shame these people.

The guy said that he is beautiful? How many beautiful people go out and gun down others? Zero.

Wickedly ugly is what he was. Shame on him.

The guy has been seen therapists since age 8. 12 freaking years and he was just as evil as can be.

On Dec 14th, 2012, one of the beloved souls lost at Newtown was named Jesse. He was six and the ONLY child of his parents. Just like this father above. The ONLY child and he was gunned down for no reason at all. So sad.

The only time I ever pulled rank in the military was to ask for specific punishment for some dude who cussed me out because I didn’t respond to his whistle, on base and in uniform. I didn’t leave behind that crap from the streets of Chicago to sign up to serve my country only to have to deal with the same bs.

Spoke too soon on last thread. Karen Finney saying, coming up “how we really thank the troops” was sarcasm. Her show had 30 minutes of CA psycho, 15 minute of VA problems and less than 30 seconds of POTUS speaking in Afghanistan.
The 30 seconds or less contained the only part of PBO’s trip that the GOP cares about or heard-“security agreement and continuing presence.”

      May 25, 2014 at 5:28 pm

      Sadly Vicki,

They are treating this President as though he doesn’t exist anymore.

They give more time on drooling over Hillary and her want to be 1st dude, than they give the sitting President, until it’s time to attach fake scandals on him.

We are the ones who “MUST” lift President Obama up as they continually attempt to tear him down, and call out the media, and the far left and right wing nuts.

There’s more than enough of us to challenge their outlandish behavior and make enough noise to drown them out.

You mean someone still watch Karen Finney? I find it hard to watch a lot of these so-called liberal shows anymore.

      • 23 Cindy
        May 25, 2014 at 7:15 pm

        Agree COS,

I respect Reverend Al; show is more upbeat, and he showcases the President and the 1st Family.

Unfortunately, I don’t watch him as much anymore. He spends (maybe forced to) way too much time on “replaying” the ugliness of the repukes. At times, I thought he was interviewing the nuts in real time, only to find out it was a clip.

Then he asks the panel to weigh in and they run out of time because so much time was given to the negative clip(s).

It could be, he can’t control that part of his show but the public doesn’t need to listen to those lies over and over, and over again. Some will hear only that part and never hear the panel’s rebuttal with facts.

I have gotten away from most of them at this point, worthless at times, and causes my pressure to rise. I do love Dr. Maddow’s investigative skills and Lawrence O. passion at times, but they get crazy when the President is doing something they don’t like.

Crazy Ed Schultz is just another case all together, and the rest, well, what can one say?

        • 24 Vicki
          May 25, 2014 at 7:38 pm

It is a crying shame because we are systematically being deprived of a voice on the media.
The change has been happening for a very long time so maybe people are unaware that there is only one view, the Corporate view being portrayed.
Maybe we didn’t watch or listen to Air America or Current TV or Ed Schultz on radio. But we are diminished by the loss of choice.

How is this different from Russia and iran?

Remember the GOP are champions of Veterans…..

Late Friday afternoon before the Memorial Day weekend, Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) penned an “open letter to America’s Veterans” in which he took several veterans service groups to task for being insufficiently critical of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki. Burr accused the groups (with the exception of the American Legion) of being more invested in maintaining access to the secretary than with fixing a troubled health care system. He questioned why they haven’t called for a leadership change at the VA, and pointedly charged the groups’ leaders with not caring about the health and well-being of their members.

Burr’s letter was in response to the testimony that Shinseki and seven of these veteran service organizations (VSO) had given before his committee the week prior, concerning revelations and allegations of long wait times, bureaucratic malfeasance and insufficient care at the VA. Not surprisingly, leaders at the veterans groups Burr named were not pleased with the letter.

A follow up to some of the people trying to figure out Klinsmann’s decision leaving Donovan off the U.S. Team:

      • May 26, 2014 at 12:44 pm

        Love this part:

“No matter how much or how little he played, Donovan wouldn’t have been a distraction in Brazil. Instead, Klinsmann has created controversy out of thin air, and risked alienating American fans in the process. The coach said that the best player in American soccer history didn’t make the squad because of a “little step.” It seems more likely that Donovan was omitted for another reason: the coach’s big ego.”

Watched David Muir, ABC News tonight. The lead story was new info about the Santa Barbara killings, but next came the pictures and news of the President’s trip to Afghanistan, emphasizing the enthusiastic support and response of the troops. It was a good segment. We usually watch David Muir on weekends.
After the President’s segment was a segment on the Pope in Israel and Palestine. I thought of these two men coming to the world at one time, and once again, I think this convergence is not accidental.

SC pastor accused of turning Bible college into forced labor camp for foreign students

Director of Cathedral Bible College, with campus in Myrtle Beach, faces federal labor charges
    BY DAVID WREN

Reginald Wayne Miller, the president of Cathedral Bible College, was arrested Thursday on accusations that he forces foreign students at his school to work long hours for low wages and then threatens to revoke their student visas if they complain or fail to comply with his demands.

The 65-year-old Miller — whose school recently moved from the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base to Marion, where Miller now lives — was booked into the Florence County Detention Center shortly after 2 a.m. on Thursday.

Very interesting set of tweets, NW.

Tweeters appear to focus on the killer’s misogyny and whiteness.

Myself, I lean toward the sick #Affluenza that afflicts portions of our society, compounded by #WhiteMalePrivilege.

I’ve mentioned before that I live in the same town that the Isla Vista killer went to High School, an affluent LA suburb. The family of the killer belongs to the same social class that the #Aurora and #Newton CT killers did – affluent, white, suburban.

The Isla Vista killer was raised in Calabasas, the same LA suburb where the Menendez brothers attended High School. (They killed their parents in 1989 In a highly publicized case.) Those of you unfamiliar with Calabasas would no doubt recognize many of celebs who live there – I’m not a celeb watcher, so I am probably wrong about this, but I think Justin Bieber, the Kardashians, etc. have at least one home there. Calabasas is filled with McMansion gated communities.

I conversed with another tweeter today about this:

    Translation of first tweet:
Many children of affluent white suburban parents where the Isla Vista killer attended high school drive around with a carload of friends in their BMW (or other luxury car), which was a 16th birthday present. These kids are typically loud and obnoxious. However, I don’t see the same behavior in the Korean and African American children. The Korean-Americans typically hang with their family or study with friends, the Afirican American children are model citizens.

I know this is a stereotype, which is dangerous territory, but I’m reporting from eyewitness experience. Of course there are exceptions. And this stereotype applies only to those kids who get a fancy luxury car as a birthday present. The vast majority of kids here don’t drive around in brand new lux cars – they bicycle or get rides from their parents/friends.

Just MHO, please be gentle with me if you disagree. There’s room for all opinions here, and we all support #LandslideDems2014 and #Trust Barack, he’s earned it.

  29. May 25, 2014 at 7:32 pm

Forgot to mention that two girls killed by the Isla Vista monster attended the same High School as the murderer, which is part of the town that I live in (not this affluent area, but in the older aka residences-built-in-the-1950s area of town).

I believe that his roommates who were knifed to death have yet to be identified (as of a hour or so ago). I’m not following this case very closely, so I may be completely wrong about this.

Reading more about this Ca. shooter——it seems in this case the parents did all they could with a child that I suspect was troubled from birth—seeking mental health help for him from an early age—– problems became evident when they moved to the U.S. and he started school—–seemed that he was always ostracized —-kids perceived him as “odd” —–began seeing therapists when he was 8 yr. old. Wrote about being bullied and having no friends in grade school and “I’m already known as the weird one” when he started high school. He wrote at the end about hating girls but from his writings he actually hated everyone, also hated the “obnoxious slobs”, the guys who were seen with the girls who rejected him—-wrote early on about wanting to kill his brother and stepmom, stabbed and murdered his 3 roommates, presumably guys. Had a complete breakdown when he was 15, spent months out of school, then went to an alternative school. Wrote about spending most of his days playing violent warcraft vid games, which I think are probably ok with people who have everything else in order, but a damaging force for those living on the edge, fragile. He was reportedly seeing a whole fleet of psychiatrists all along, and even tho his parents had worries about him moving to Santa Barbara, they again arranged for him to see medical/mental health professionals there. He stopped takinb the meds prescribed. Parents and his therapists notified the police when they became aware of his violent vid postings. The police failed in their follow up as the shooter wrote —–they never inspected his bedroom where he had the 3 semi-automatic handguns and all his written plans to embark on a killing spree. They could have prevented this tragedy. And of course—-his access to guns—–the #1 problem, as always. How could someone with his long history of psychiatric issues—virtually his whole life—- be allowed to purchase guns? Asking a question—–are mental health professionals required by law to submit names of those who have serious mental problems so they are on some data base that can be checked by gun sellers? Not that it would be fool proof—-lots of loopholes, I know—–and every troubled teenager seems to have a gun these days, acquired from someone somewhere—-but wondering if there was anything in existing gun laws, such as they are, to attempt to avoid such tragedies.

    • May 25, 2014 at 8:13 pm

      Thanks for the update, dotster.

I first learned about this horror from you, on yesterday’s early bird chat.

Just heard on the radio that the identities of all 6 murdered victims have now been released.

The radio also said that his parents were on their way to Isla Vista when the mayhem occurred. They saw the killer’s YouTube posting, but instead of calling the police, they tried to make it there before their son fulfilled his plan.

Confused because the Daily Mail article that @JeffersonObama linked to (courtesy of Bobfr above) says the killer grew up in Woodland Hills (which borders Calabasas)… the Daily Mail is known to be loose with facts.

Was the killer raised in Malaysia?

I’ve noticed some confusion in the discussion about the shooter and use of the word “psychopath”. Psychopath is a conventional word to refer to the term anti-social personality disorder used in the DSM diagnostic manual, when applied to criminality. It is not a mental disorder but a personality disorder to indicate someone who is totally lacking in conscience or empathy for others.

No idea what it means, but twice today at the welcoming ceremony in Tel Aviv, the Pope embraced President Peres and shook hands with PM Netanyahu (not both; even the commentator mentioned it). In his remarks upon arriving in Israel, the Pope went on to say others outside the process can make small steps to assist toward creating peace … here’s a follow-up from the NYT:

POPE, IN MIDEAST, INVITES LEADERS TO MEET ON PEACE

” … Presidents Shimon Peres of Israel and Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority accepted the pope’s invitation to pray together; Mr. Abbas’s spokesman said the meeting would take place June 6.”

First, I was soooo uplifted to hear the resounding cheers from the troops in Afghanistan when our PBO was introduced! The media can’t twist that around, although they will probably try!

Next, I just read the latest results from the Italian election and it looks like Renzi’s party, il Partito Democratico (the center-left party), has won a landslide with 41.5%! This is awesome because MC5 (Italy’s dudebros/tea party… Beppe Grillo reminds me so much of Glenn Greenwald) ended up more than 20 points behind at 21.5%! Of course the press there had been all gloom and doom that the Democrats were losing voters… Ha Ha! Plus, the far right parties, unlike in other parts of Europe, pretty much got clobbered. Of course, the far-left had been urging everyone not to vote, so Green Italia got less than one percent.

I’m glad about this because Renzi is such an admirer of the President and when he went there recently and it was all over Italian news paraphrasing PBO as saying, “Ho fiducia sulle riforme di Renzi” or “I have faith in the reforms of Renzi” The far right and far left ridiculed this, but apparently Renzi got the PBO bump! :-)

    • 106 Bill R.
      May 25, 2014 at 9:16 pm

That is a good outcome. Renzi is a reformer and a good leader for Italy. In some other countries like the UK and France the far right anti-immigrant parties did well. These were not national elections but were elections to the EU Parliament.

        May 25, 2014 at 9:25 pm

Yes, thanks for clarifying that Bill R.

Grillo promised to give up politics if his party did not win. Of course, it’s been crickets so far from the MC5ers…

        May 25, 2014 at 10:07 pm

Thanks for this pic and link Arapaho! Yes, that’s exactly how I felt; what a difference a couple of days makes! All the media chatter was starting to get to me (not shake my faith in PBO, of course) and when I read Italian blogs/news it was like it is here; the far-left and far-right in a love affair with Putin, the left saying voting “creates shepherds so the sheep will rest”.. same as here. The media the world over is owned by the same folks, it makes sense the same BS gets echoed everywhere.

I feel like today, with the troops cheering so loudly for the President, with the Ukraine vote, with Italy’s center left landslide; it is a vindication for all of us who, like our dear PBO believe in actually DOING something to help better people’s lives. And it also reinforces my belief that all the noise from the MSM is just that; it doesn’t represent the true will of the people. Yay!

Wake up to the news that Ukraine and Italy moved away from the wingers and those ‘bastions of democracy’ UK & France moved to far right. beebs seems to be gloating over this.

What % vote in eu elections? Can’t imagine most folks could be bothered – or do I read this wrongly?

43.1% as per beebs. They are giddy that turnout was 0.1%, yes 0.1%, higher than last time.

Thanks amk – that’s higher than I thought – many in the UK & France are very anti non-white immigrants, hence the RW (white supremacy) vote – watching from afar I do laugh that they can no longer ship their “unwanted” to countries far away.

I should add – we have much to answer for in our treatment of those who seek asylum – which has reached rock bottom with the Abbott government.

Just listened to the President’s speech in Afghanistan today. Thank you Bob for posting it.

Something occurred to me about the difference in the ending in Afghanistan and the one in Iraq.
The ending in Afghanistan is being handled in an orderly, constructive way. We are not leaving the country in tatters. Conditions are actually better because of our involvement. Iraq was a disaster from beginning to end. Little preparation before we went in, and little Bush preparation for the end, just haphazard. What order there was, happened due to PBO’s and his team’s planning, but they could not rescue almost six years of disastrous events.
President Obama does things in an orderly manner, and notice how many times he mentioned girls now going to school! He is so concerned about the needs of human beings.

Thinking just a bit about the EU elections…..Italy suffered enough under the far right and corrupt Berlusconi. They learned. Ukraine suffered under the far right and corrupt government, they learned. GB and France are evidently being driven by fear of the OTHER right now, but the far right will go too far, and they are corrupt…..

Thanks UT… this was really awesome to read.
Sorry I am way behind to comment as I guess no one will see it because it takes me days/hours to get through all these wonderful posts each day. However, I read each and every post and every comment hence the tardiness.

You. Chips, LL and all the other BT (even AMK) … Thanks!
Without this blog, I would not know as much as I do!

        So appreciated.
