President Barack Obama arrived in Afghanistan on Sunday for a previously undisclosed meeting with soldiers stationed there. NBC News reported Obama’s arrival at noon eastern.

Reuters reports that President Obama will speak to the troops, receive a military briefing, and visit wounded soldiers at Bagram Air Force Base. Obama left for Afghanistan from Andrews Air Force Base on Saturday night.

Country music star Brad Paisley is with the President, and will be performing for the troops.

      Good afternoon Nerdy Wonka!
      Happy BEAUTIFUL Sunday to you.

      Congrats on 1st!

Thank you for the news! This is incredible, President Obama is on the move like no other because he cares sooooooo much for others.

This is just BEAUTIFUL……I love President Obama and his Administration, the man has a heart of GOLD.

We are indeed Blessed to have this President, 1st Family and Administration for times such as these.

Thank you President Barack H. Obama…..WE LOVE YOU!!!

OMGosh, the soldiers from America’s heartland could not ask for a better entertainer than Brad Paisley to mark Memorial Day 2014. It’s something that they will tell their grandchildren.

As a country music fan myself, hats off to Brad Paisley, who was a source of controversy for his accidental racist song.

I say give the guy a break, his intent was not malicious, he composed the song from his own POV.

That’s why courses on white privilege should be required from elementary school forward. Both whites and people of color would see and interact differently with each other after hearing diverse POVs.

I leave TOD for a moment to get a coffee refill, and there’s a new thread (having missed the previous R&S new thread) and our BELOVED President is in Afghanistan.

I think I’m about to cry.

For all those we’ve lost in senseless wars — as someone from the Vietnam War era — to how PBO does what’s right, without fail.

Not what’s politically expedient — everything he does is from the perspective of how he can make life better for all Americans, including the 1% (more on this later, after I’ve had a chance to compose myself).

WOW…PBO played golf yesterday and is in Afghanistan today and will be back for Memorial Day events tomorrow. I don’t know how the next President will match the stamina that this man has…I hope we elect someone who is FIT for the job, and not just an emotional choice…

    • May 25, 2014 at 12:42 pm

Because he’s either a super human with super powers or – as I believe – has a supernatural hand on his shoulder, because he’s trying to do the right thing each and every day, for his fellow man and woman and child.

      Happy Sunday hopefruit2!

      Wishing you a BEAUTIFUL DAY!

There is no other who can match him; he is incredible, and I don’t know how he does it physically.

Spiritually, I believe that he is so emotionally invested in this country, and in “every” human being, that it is God who gives him spiritual strength to run this grueling race.

President Obama loves this country and the people, and he is determine to leave us in a better place. His heart and soul is in this job and that is why he will go down in history as the GREATEST PRESIDENT ever lived.

Polls will not dictate or measure how he will be judged.

The work that he is doing today will be the cornerstone for the future and generations to come. Our children, children, and their children will know who President Barack H. Obama is and was, and I still believe that his best is yet to come.

    http://www.armytimes.com/article/20140525/NEWS05/305250023/Obama-slips-into-Afghanistan-visit-U-S-troops

BAGRAM AIR FIELD, AFGHANISTAN — President Obama secretly slipped into Afghanistan under the cover of darkness Sunday for a weekend visit with U.S. troops serving in the closing months of America’s longest war.

Air Force One landed at Bagram Air Field, the main U.S. base in Afghanistan, after an overnight flight from Washington. Obama was scheduled to spend just a few hours on the base and had no plans to travel to Kabul, the capital, to meet with Hamid Karzai, the mercurial president who has had a tumultuous relationship with the White House.

  16. May 25, 2014 at 12:39 pm

Just turned on the radio, which reports that damn emoprogs are marching today to DEMAND that President Obama bring the troops home from Afghanistan.

Emoprogs have egg on their face, and deserve worse.

Give our President a chance, let him BE the President, and not your lackey.

PBO is meeting with that corrupt villain Karsai now. What more do you want him to do? Assassinate Karsai, which previous Presidents might have done?

Sorry for the lackey imagery, but please, people, PBO is the most ENGAGED President in American history, and the most committed to saving and protecting all American lives (who have not proven themselves to be actual traitor terrorists).

How can anyone forget; he attended the dinner on Saturday night, laughed and shamed the ugly “crazy hair” Donald Trump.

Sunday morning, he played golf and enjoyed the game.

But something strange happened while others were still trying to tell President Obama how to be President.
Sunday night when most were in bed…..President reported, Osama is dead.

President Obama walks quietly, and while the right wings and every other wing are flapping about, he gets the job done with or without them.

    http://www.mediaite.com/online/veterans-org-fires-back-at-gop-sen-monumental-cheap-shot/

On Friday, Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) criticized veterans organizations for prizing political leverage with Veterans Affairs Secretary General Eric Shinseki over veterans’ health access. Less than twenty-four hours later, the Veterans of Foreign Wars fired back at the senator, calling his criticism a “monumental cheap shot.”

“Last week’s hearing made it clear to me that the staff has ignored the constant VA problems expressed by their members and is more interested in their own livelihoods and Washington connections than they are to the needs of their own members,” Burr alleged of various veterans organizations, with the exclusion of the American Legion, which has called for Shinseki to step aside. “I fear that change within the VA will not be possible unless and until these organizations also reconsider their role as well as the nature of their relationship with VA.”

We are living in the days of the Wild, Wild West.

At any given second we can be taken from our love ones because people are determined to prove that guns are the answers.

This is just sickening and Congress is too coward to even attempt to solve this craziness.

    • 56 Cindy
      May 25, 2014 at 1:08 pm

I can honestly say; I really, really thought that Congress would be moved after the slaughter of “babies” and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary. My heart ached for their lives, never having a chance to grow up, and the brave teachers who gave their lives to try and save their precious ones.

I really believed that their hearts would be moved in a profound way that they would do the right thing for these families, and all who have lost their love ones through senseless violence of guns.

In my heart I believed that human compassion would dominate; human side would prevail.

Instead, we have a bunch of A_ _ Holes; belligerent, cynical; devils, evil, fear mongering, greedy, heartless, hate filled, idiots, jackasses,

kindless, lazy, lying, malicious, non-productive, over privileged, power hungry, quacks, race bating, spineless, spiteful, tormentors,

unsympathetic, vultures, women hating, worthless, yellow bellies masquerading as Congressmen.

These COWARDS refuse to do what is right because they hate President Obama so badly, that they can’t even produce an ounce of compassion for others, and for this GREAT COUNTRY.

I despise these individuals who doesn’t give a damn about another human life. These cowards would let their own mothers die if it meant that they will have power and control.

I “pray” that the people will rise up and VOTE their heartless a__ __es out for the good of this country.

This is what we will continue to see and hear about as long as COWARDS are allowed to masquerade as Congress; repukes and Dems who are afraid of doing what is right, because it is right, to do the right thing.

The recession finally appears to be in the rear-view mirror for Americans planning to travel more this summer, and many will even indulge in upgrades, according to several new industry reports.

A post-recession high of 36.1 million people are expected to travel during Memorial Day weekend, the traditional kickoff to the summer travel season, AAA Travel said Friday. That’s a 1.5 percent increase from 2013.
