Yes! I think I am in. No pushing, they’re still talking back there and no one saw me slip by.

Walking quickly, running, faster, faster, turning the corner; must look both ways, someone may try to trip me.

Empty hall ways, near the door, almost here. Open, open, open slowly, no Danny waiting to grab my leg. Enter slowly, could be a set up…..in, in.

      ALL THE WAY IN! YES….GOLD….GOLD!

and yet Dem’s are still tepid about voting in 2014. They’d rather the country be ran by deranged whackos (oxymoron intended, emphasis on the ‘moron’).

Illinois Passes Landmark Progressive Voting Reform
By Scott Keyeson June 2, 2014 at 10:52 am

The fifth largest state in the nation passed one of the most impactful progressive voting reforms last week, a move that will likely result in hundreds of thousands of new voters.

On Friday, both Illinois legislative chambers approved HB 105, a bill that allows state residents to register to vote on Election Day. The Land of Lincoln had previously cut off voter registration three days before Election Day.

The bill passed by wide margins; 39-17 in the Senate and 64-41 in the House. It now goes to Gov. Pat Quinn’s (D) desk, who is expected to sign the legislation.

Election Day registration is, in many ways, the anti-voter ID. Voter ID laws, which have been en vogue among conservatives recently, could disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters (though different studies have reached different conclusions regarding how many voters will be disenfranchised by voter ID, even conservative estimates suggest that 2 to 3 percent of registered voters will be impacted). Election Day registration, on the other hand, tends to boost turnout between 7 to 14 percentage points, according to scientific studies. These gains come predominantly from the very groups that voter ID tends to discriminate against: minorities, young voters, and low-income Americans.

There are a few reasons why Election Day registration has such a significant impact on turnout. Requiring people to register before they actually cast a ballot presents an extra hurdle to voting that necessarily depresses turnout. In addition, many Americans don’t begin paying attention to an election until just before Election Day, at which point it is too late to register in many states. Finally, nearly one in eight Americans move in an average year. Unless they remember to update their voter registration before Election Day or live in a state with Election Day registration, they can’t vote.

Rikyrah, this is fabulous news from Illinois. I’m hoping someday the state of PA comes out of the dark ages and institutes voter reforms. Pennsylvanians have to register ONE FULL MONTH before election day, which means many who are just waking up to the elections or who start paying attention in the last month can’t vote. This is so stupid as to defy belief, but it’s been going on for decades with no one willing to make a change. Also PA makes it very difficult to vote absentee. Your not only have to request this way in advance, you have to give a ‘valid’ excuse. Thank God a PA judge killed the voter ID law–for now.

      June 3, 2014 at 2:34 pm

Now, Please God, let the voters READ and understand the referendum coming up that they think is about ‘term limits’.

Term limits that don’t kick in for 10 years. But…..

an immediate restructuring of IL state government: cutting the number of Senators and increasing the number of House members, thereby shifting the balance of power from the population centers to the RWNJ’s.

      • June 3, 2014 at 2:56 pm

        June 3, 2014 at 3:07 pm

I heard that even if it passes it most likely will be found unconsitutional by the IL Supreme Court. I read an article where the Supreme Court in the past ruled against term limits and changes to the composition of the state legislature by referendum.

Hearing the Polish president speak reminded me of the jolt I got yesterday when turned on car radio which has been locked on Chgo’s progressive WCPT since Al Franken was there—and maybe sooner—and I hear some strange language which was not in my repertoire—–not French or Spanish. Thought it might be Polish—-Chgo has a huge Polish population— which I have now confirmed after hearing the Polish president, and google—–saw that WCPT sold their air time to Polski FM. This is a huge disappointment—progressive radio gone in Chicago???!!!–Dems/libs seem to always struggle to get their message out.

820 and the deKalb FM will keep progressive talk. It’s the two other FM stations that will switch to Polski.

I do often use one of those FM stations, but it’s not a huge inconvenience. The biggie is that 820 AM will continue progressive talk.

The media is literally unhinged along with the GOP in their attempts to turn this into another “scandal.” I guess time is running out (for them) and PBO just keeps on governing the country and getting things done. So they are jumping to conclusions and shrieking not knowing the facts and are now inviting Republicans to come on TV and make all kinds of preposterous claims. The facts, the law, and truth are NOT on the MSM or GOP’s side. They are on PBO’s side – and manufacturing one crisis or scandal after another is not helping the MSM or GOP.

Wow…..I leave TOD to do some actual work, come back and riches unfold. Thank you.

Have to confess, I love seeing PBO and SOS Kerry together at this meeting and smiling. Those two are a wonderful team.

As a child of the Cold War, I thrill to hear our president speak of being friends and partners with Central and Eastern Europe. Growing up when I did, that was the impossible dream……now look!! I’m excited because I am getting to visit Prague, Czech Republic this summer…..some where I never thought possible when I was growing up. It is where Amadeus was filmed, and Mozart spent time, so it is doubly exciting. Then Vienna, the once divided city where so many wonderful spy novels were set…..The Third Man…..and also, home to Mozart.

To me, at my age, this is a very exciting day. The freedom these people fought so hard for, was not a brief fling, it is now twenty-five years and stable. Don’t ever get discouraged…..change does come……with work.

Does anyone know if the National Enquirer is affiliated with the Koch brothers or RW repukes?

Can the President and Mrs. Obama sue the Enquirer?

I don’t know if anyone here has experience this; lately, when shopping at Publix, the front cover of the Enquirer is featuring Mrs. Obama in very unflattering pictures. The headline always read; President Obama affairs and Michelle has had enough. They have snapshots of her with her mouth opened and very bad expressions on her face. Just two weeks ago, they had another front cover story and a picture of the President kissing Caroline Kennedy with another distasteful picture of Mrs. Obama and her mouth was opened, denoting screaming; headlines about she is tired of the cheating.

Today, another front cover story with Mrs. Obama picture (not nice); stating that when they leave the White House, the marriage is over.

I took the papers and place them behind some magazines. The National Enquirer is placed towards the cashiers facing the customers. I watched today to see if people were curious, and they all picked up the Enquirer.

This has been going on for the pass 5-6 weeks now and I am beginning to believe that an intentional smear campaign is quietly taking place behind the scenes, leading up to the mid-terms. Obviously, I don’t know what is true or not true but these pictures that they are using of Mrs. Obama is disgraceful as the First Lady of this country.

I remember when the Enquirer started with Pitts and Angeline Jolie, they sued them, won and donated the money to charity. I hope that the President can do the same. I just have this bad feeling that the right wing repukes are behind this.

    • 80 carolyn
      June 3, 2014 at 3:38 pm

I’ve noticed those Enquirers too, Cindy. They seem to alternate with movie star headlines. I think the Enquirer is owned by some right wing corp, and they are awful. In our state (Ok) they seem to stay on the stands, don’t know why.
Of course these stories are lies. I remember during GWB’s time seeing Enquirer headlines about Laura leaving GWB, staying in the Mayflower Hotel, leaving him when term was over, etc, etc…..blah, blah, blah, basically same stories with different names. Once, I bit, and opened the magazine and looked inside.(didn’t buy it, read it in the aisle) Could not even find an article with the same headline, just a little paragraph toward the back repeating the headline, with no attribution or anything. I suspect these are the same….
Did you notice the Caroline Kennedy picture was photoshopped? Obviously it was.
      Desperation is really ugly.

      • 81 Cindy
        June 3, 2014 at 3:46 pm

Yes! I noticed the Caroline picture. I was so furious and I have yet to open and read anything. I am just mad because I hate how they are showing these distasteful pictures of Mrs. Obama. It always appears to be saying; “Angry Black Woman.” I just hate this all around.

They keep publishing this stuff every week and these papers are in every isle. I have gone to different stores and they are there. I truly believe that if the digging is done; right wing repukes are in this. I hate this; Rush Limppuke speaks so badly of Mrs. Obama and then these distasteful pictures and articles are everywhere. This is the part of politics I despise greatly, always personal attacks on this family.

Yesterday, I was in the store and I noticed the Globe had the same big cover picture and story of the Obamas. I think it is despicable. I don’t even pick it up. I am sure there is some republican behind this crap. They did the same thing with the Clintons.

A tabloid that has long prided itself on turning heads in supermarket checkout lines is heading back to its New York roots.

The National Enquirer is leaving its Boca Raton, Florida, headquarters and in June will begin operations in New York under a new editor with a mandate to broaden its audience and give it some Internet-age flourish.

“This is a move that is designed to build on the extraordinary,” said Dylan Howard, the 32-year-old who is becoming editor of the publication, while retaining his title of editorial director of RadarOnline

Cindy, you are right, no one knows what goes on behind close doors but the two people. I have seen what you are talking about and i do my best to ignore it.POTUS and FLOTUS will not waste their time with that rag or trying to sue it. Yes the picture of FLOTUS is unflattering, and I feel like it is an attack on her. What sells? Nothing about POTUS policies, but what sells are stuff like that If POTUS is out there cheating on FLOTUS, then he is not the man we thought he was, and that is what they want us to believe.

Take notice, in the first four years you saw nothing like that, now it is open season on POTUS and FLOTUS.

Yes anniebella, you are correct. Now, it’s every week. I believe it is being done as we enter the midterms, on purpose, to change the minds of voters against the Dems and the President.

As if to say; Clinton did it and now this President is doing it. It’s a quiet storm moving in.

Tzar Vlad must really have a sad looking at these pictures. Wasn’t all that long ago many of these countries (in fact most) were part of the Warsaw Bloc and completely under the influence of the Soviet Union. In fact, some of them were part of the USSR.

Did anybody hear of an article on Huff Post today that quoted some military personnel that the soldiers who tragically died in Afghanistan were NOT sent out to specifically search for Bergdahl, but were told that when they were on combat missions, they should include keeping their eyes open for any info on where he was. That they were killed during regular combat missions.

I heard it referenced on Stephanie Miller this morning but I couldn’t find it.

On the local stations here, they had some soldiers on who were supposedly with him, stating that Bergdahl left his post and because of that, other soldiers were killed.

I pray that your information is “true.” They are attacking this from all sides, to get to the President. All the local stations are repeating the repukes lines; President Obama broke the law. I guess this is his waterloo……….again. GEESH, these hateful people want his blood.

You mean the soldiers that some Republican strategist has rounded up to do this swiftboating?

Now, there were questions and issues when he first walked away (apparently there is no dispute about that). But 20 year old kids, and anyone in the midst of battle, cannot and should not be judged for perfect decision-making. Even some Bushie made this point today.

What, exactly, is the GOP saying? We should judge the perfect conduct of everyone we send to war in the name of the United States, and determine – without full information, or a trial – that they should be abandoned? He is a U.S. soldier and it is our duty to bring him home.

What is this insanity coming to? If you’re Dem and a soldier, we’ll leave you there to rot? If you voted for PBO, we’ll turn you over the enemy?

        This is way past insane.

The AP news feed on progressive radio in Chicago has been outrageous: the headline is that he’ll be tried for desertion; when the military is saying they will get the facts and if there is cause, they would try him for desertion. But NO ONE official is saying that now, yet that is how it’s being reported.

        Despicable. GOP = traitors.

Pearl is okay. She had terrible diarrhea and throwing up, wiping out every dog bed in the house and the rugs. I had cooked some organic chicken and methinks Mr. 57 put a way too much of the drippings and the chicken in her food and her little tummy couldn’t adjust fast enough.

She is fine, as of about 8:00 last night. Of course I had to re-do the ‘cleaning’ Mr. 57 allegedly did, and wash and re-wash all the doggie beds. But none of that matters as long as my sweet Pearl is feeling better.

CA does it in its own way! :)

Cannabis clubs in San Jose are offering free pot and discounts to patients who go to the polls Tuesday and vote in several contested races.

The Silicon Valley Cannabis Coalition is organizing the “Weed for Votes” program as an effort to increase voter turnout at Tuesday’s election.

The media is indulging claims about Bergdahl’s state of mind, whether or not the President was required to consult with Congress prior to finalizing the exchange and stories about soldiers who may have died trying to rescue him. But that’s all hyperbole designed to gin up the anti-Obama base. I propose that the real issue for conservatives actually centers on the other side of the exchange…the release of the 5 Taliban detainees from Gitmo.

This is why we must be vigilant:

“With Alabama’s voter ID law debuting today, state Republicans are offering a big cash reward to anyone who helps them dig up some voter fraud. But finding voters disenfranchised by the law isn’t difficult, even without financial incentives.

Willie Mims, 93, showed up to vote at his polling place in Escambia County Tuesday morning for Alabama’s primary elections. Mims, who is African-American, no longer drives, doesn’t have a license, and has no other form of ID. As a result, he was turned away without voting. Mims wasn’t even offered the chance to cast a provisional ballot, as the law requires in that situation”.

Bogota Mayor Tito Jackson, Jr. — settle down — got one of those “I Voted” stickers when he went to the polls today. Then he got punched in the face.

Jackson alleged to police that Sal Trotta, father of a rival borough council candidate Tina Trotter, accosted him after he voted and, in the ensuing scuffle, gave him the old Bogota five-finger.
