    Hello………

  3. June 3, 2014 at 11:17 pm

Damn these threads are moving faster than I can refresh my page!!!!!! Thanks for the PBO link Chips…….I’m going to be up watching CA election tallies….

AMK…..pay attention to CA-17 primary tonight. Might get a chance to have first Indian in congress… http://vote.sos.ca.gov/returns/us-rep/district/17/ ….going to be interesting to see who makes runoff for Waxman’s 40 yr. held seat…..only 16 people vying :)

I wish Ray Mabus would have left the Sec. of Navy gig in the Obama Admin to run in the MS-Senate….This T-nut is beating Cochran & might even avoid a runoff….he would have won easily!

Essential insight, for everyone to ponder ….

  5. June 3, 2014 at 11:21 pm

Regarding the whole Bergdahl nonsense and the PoliticsUSA article goes, I thought this comment was pretty insightful:
“It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so pathetic. I’ve learned that when the President makes a decision and he doesn’t go out of his way trying to defend it against all of the nonsense that the right spew, I know then that he’s letting them hang themselves. Works. Every. Time.”

Until Tomasky (sp) couldn’t help himself and say “maybe it wasn’t the right thing to do” (bringing a POW home). They just can’t help themselves – NEVER 100% support

It’s statements like that which make me appreciate the all-voluntary military even more. They see how their lives mean nothing to those with microphones, and yet each year, we see more people graduating from the military academies. We see parents encouraging their children to fight for what they believe is right. We see families saying goodbye to their loved ones.

The way these Republicans and left wing commenters are carrying on, you wouldn’t think we just finished honouring the fallen military during Memorial Day…

My family have been fighting in wars – to my knowledge since the Crimea & according to the family history since the border wars England/Scotland – on both sides!

I am tired of war and sometime in the ’60s I joined the crowd saying all war is bad. I find it sad that too many “celebrate” war on our various memorial days and remembrance days. It is 100 years since the “war to end all wars” started & still we have not learned. A major premise of PBO that resounded among everyone – bring the troops home.

Thus said, I also support your words – the GOP is the party that would fight first and ask questions later – and they are the party who would “desert” the troops when support is needed. They try to defend the indefensible. They throw veterans to the wind in their attacks against the President – the light bulb of such seems to have just dawned on the likes of Chris Hayes.

Believe me – I am probably as anti-war as you are. I come from Canada – a land of “peace-keepers”. But, having watched Michelle Obama and Jill Biden highlight the plight of those who fight, and those who wait for them to come home… And having watched President Obama honour those who were ignored or even spit upon, despite valiantly serving their countries… I’ve grown to deeply respect those who risk their lives so many more can sleep peacefully at night. I don’t agree with war, but I certainly respect those who serve. It can’t be easy.

I’m sure you and I agree on quite a lot in this area – especially since your family has known military life for so long. :)

I agree with all you say theo – those who serve should be treated with love and respect – but I just don’t like that too many “celebrate” war. In thousands of years we give lip service to peace – it is sad

I love what FLOTUS & Dr Biden are doing – they really know what is needed.

This really makes me sick. All those arguments about people carrying guns to fight off wild animals and protect themselves from intruders, etc. What is the point of this? When kids see this, what are they supposed to think? The selfishness of this act is beyond the pale. It’s just disgusting.

      • June 3, 2014 at 11:41 pm

I thought these stories were restricted to the south, and not BIG corporate America like Target! ………I even read today the NRA is apologizing going after the gun-rights groups advocating these policies….

        http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2014/06/03/nra_apologizes_for_statement_calling_some_members_weird.html

“There was some confusion, we apologize, again, for any confusion that that post caused,” said the NRA’s Chris Cox on a NRA radio talk show.

Now, the truth is, an alert went out that referred to this type of behavior as weird, or somehow not normal. And that was a mistake. It shouldn’t have happened. I’ve had a discussion with the staffer who wrote that piece, and expressed his personal opinion. Our job is not to criticize the lawful behavior of fellow gun owners.”

I remember seeing video of Jewish West Bank settlers walking around on their daily business with submachine guns strapped to their backs. I thought: “Well, that’s not a sign of a healthy society.” And look what we have here now. Maddening.

Good evening TODville. It has been a very long day. I have been an election judge today. From 6am to 8:30 pm. For a primary we were steady all day. Even with many mail ins. I have hope for a good turnout this fall. Now to go back and read all that has gone one today, Haven’t been able to even look at any news.

Totally agree. There will be all kinds of distractions out there, purposefully pushing a narrative. The military hasn’t even fully debriefed the returned POW, and there is NO WAY they would be officially announcing anything at this point. This is not the game the media thinks it is.

Bob’s post about 100 years of history and the President in Poland is what I’ve been dwelling on all day. I wrote a bit about this earlier…..I’m a child of the Cold War. When I grew up Poland, Czechaslovakia, Yugoslavia, Rumania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia were all part of the Soviet Union. They were behind the IRON CURTAIN…..they were forbidden places. East Germany was a huge threat, we thought, then the wall came down and we saw they were a paper tiger.

Now they, and we, are celebrating 25 of freedom, and I’m so glad PBO is the Am President who is present for these celebrations.
This visit of his, and these celebrations show that CHANGE CAN HAPPEN when good people work for it. It does not come easy, and the old guard always goes down fighting, but let this wonder we are witnessing in Europe right now keep us encouraged to work for change, and see the right’s yells for what they are: the death throes of a dying beast, as archaic as the woolly mammoth.

    RACHEL MADDOW 06/03/14

    1) Right wing organizes bashing of American POW

Rachel Maddow reports on the passion and outrage with which the American right is objecting to the return of American soldier Bowe Bergdahl, rejecting the longstanding American principle of leaving no soldier behind.

    2) Right ignores due process in zeal to condemn American POW

Patrick Murphy, an Iraq War veteran, former congressman, and the host of “Taking the Hill” on msnbc, talks with Rachel Maddow about unexpected passion on the right for leaving an American soldier behind in Afghanistan as a prisoner of the Taliban.

I am hearing lots of talk of how the soldier deserted his post, is it possible that the guy had some mental issues. I mean war is hell, and it affect every individual different, and people need to stop playing politics and wait and see what the U.S. can fine out from the soldier. But I don’t understand how anyone could say that he should have be left with the taliban. The U.S. sent him over there to fight and the U.S. should do all they can to bring him home, unless he gives up his right to be a American and choose to live over there. And I have not hear so far that is what the soldier wanted to do. It is ashame what the Republicans has become and I am seeing some Dems are nothing to be proud of. Media don’t give a dam about the truth, they just want controversy.

Wow, that is so chilling. Bowe Bergdahl appears to be pretty dazed, overwhelmed by the light of day? Not really able to walk steadily? I don’t know the circumstances of his captivity, but it almost appears as though he may have been kept in dark without exercise or perhaps we don’t know the nature of his illness. In any case, I am glad he is back in our care, safe, no matter the circumstances.
