Agendas?

A tweet from last year by Cody Full (@CodyFNfootball), the RW media star leading the campaign of vilification against Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl.

There are lots more, like his ceaseless venom towards President Obama, his support for Cliven Bundy, his regular use of ‘Libtard’ – and his scrubbing of his social media offerings that included ‘a N****r’ pic once he began his Twitter campaign against Bergdahl.

****

And this, a screenshot from a fundraising site for the other RW media star leading the campaign of vilification against Sergeant Bergdahl, Josh Korder:

That’s right, he is looking for money to help him tell the ‘truth’.

****

Both soldiers are everywhere in the media at the moment, casting Bergdahl – and, ultimately, their President – as a traitor, and so far, absolutely nobody has questioned them about any possible agenda.

Korder, for example, appeared on Britain’s Channel 4 news yesterday where he was interviewed by the usually excellent Krishnan Guru-Murthy – but not once was he questioned about a possible personal agenda, or about his efforts to profit from his media tour.

So, I tweeted this to Guru-Murthy, and to his credit he replied:

If he does look in to it, that would be great, but I don’t see any US media big guns promising to do the same

No reply, needless to say, from Mr Tapper:

Just this:

So, anticipate yet another unquestioning chat with Cody Full, a far right racist with a seething hatred for the President – one who was particularly alarmed by Sergeant Bergdahl’s habit of reading books and desire to learn languages other than his own. Which he thought made him weird

****

This, incidentally, is the guy who is pimping Cody Full to the media:

****

Are Cody Full and Josh Korder telling the truth?

Maybe they are. Maybe Sergeant Bergdahl does have serious questions to answer – no one knows for certain yet.

But before the media present ‘witnesses’, shouldn’t they at least vet these people to check for motives? You know, a simple Twitter search would do the job.

****

My own hunch, for what it’s worth (not much): Sergeant Bergdahl is a thinking man, unlike Cody and Josh, who was horrified by what went on in his unit, and was utterly disillusioned and depressed by it all and the pointless war he had signed up for. He was, I think, just 23 at the time, and had witnessed unrelenting carnage, much of it committed by his own unit. And, so, he broke down. And wandered away.

A traitor?

No. A broken human being.

****

Interesting:

****

From Rolling Stone:

As his tour dragged on, the hellish reality of war – including seeing an Afghan child run over by an American truck – weighed on Bergdahl, who came to see America’s presence in Afghan as “disgusting.”

“I am sorry for everything here,” Bowe told his parents. “These people need help, yet what they get is the most conceited country in the world telling them that they are nothing and that they are stupid…

“We don’t even care when we hear each other talk about running their children down in the dirt streets with our armored trucks.”

Cody Full says he’s lying. But why would he lie about something like that in a personal email to his parents?

He can’t have known then that those personal emails would become public.

****

Is that what’s behind the campaign against Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl?

He knows stuff.

Stuff the racist Cody and profit-seeking Josh really, really don’t want anyone to know – so, best brand Bergdahl as a traitor, with the the help of an unquestioning media.

****

Love and best wishes to the Bergdahl family. The hate they are enduring is simply beyond belief.

    Hi BFF!

    • June 4, 2014 at 3:27 pm

      Congrats on 1st JER.

Fantastic post, Chips. You may want to include this official statement from Senator Carl Levin:

“A number of questions have been raised about the Bowe Bergdahl prisoner exchange and the congressional notification requirement.

We received a detailed classified notification from the Secretary of Defense that satisfies the many substantive certification requirements of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014.

Relative to the requirement that the notification be provided 30 days in advance of the transfer of detainees, the President put Congress on notice on Dec. 23, 2013, that he intended to exercise his powers as commander in chief, if necessary, “to act swiftly in conducting negotiations with foreign countries regarding the circumstances of detainee transfers.”

While the President cannot change the law with a signing statement, given that notice, members of Congress should not be surprised that he acted as he did in the circumstances that existed.

I give serious weight to the views of our top military leader, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Martin Dempsey, who has stated that “it is our ethos that we never leave a fallen comrade,” and that “the questions about this particular soldier’s conduct are separate from our effort to recover ANY U.S. service member in enemy captivity. This was likely the last, best opportunity to free him.”

When the Armed Services Committee is briefed on this matter next Tuesday, I intend to ask what risks we would have incurred if the Secretary of Defense had decided to wait 30 days after completing negotiations and providing the required notice to Congress rather than acting immediately.”

Doesn’t matter if he’s working pro bono. This smearing of a prisoner of war is ugly and not above board. They are targeting him and his family for purely political purposes. President Bush freed scores of Gitmo detainees, 30% of whom resumed their terrorism ties. Why is President Obama being judged differently.

    Beaytiful posts, whiney…er Chips.

I think we have to be careful about attributing some motivations to some of these folks. Money? That is obvious. PBO haters? Also obvious.

Trying to hide actions during their time in Afghanistan? I would hold off on that one. To your credit, you only posit it as a possibility, which is far more than rightwingers are doing for Bergdahl.

The hypocrisy is rampant. Will be interesting if Tapper actually tries to do real questioning. I am tweeting him back as to why have this interview? What difference does it make.

And behind it all, we know it is the festering hatred of PBO that is out there. The infection of the obamus hatrius virus is obvoiusly one which warps the brain, preventing any sort of logical, reasonable thinking. One of the symptoms is constant knee-jerking. Another is rampant hypocrisy.

wtf, japa? whiney? Chips, thank you, thank you, for this:

“My own hunch, for what it’s worth (not much): Sergeant Bergdahl is a thinking man, unlike Cody and Josh, who was horrified by what went on in his unit, and was utterly disillusioned and depressed by it all and the pointless war he had signed up for. I want to scream this from my weary rooftops. After 13 years of this fucking, fucking war on ‘terror’, this is now what America does- annihilate the first (*apparently*) young soldier to say NO.

    • 27 dotster3
      June 4, 2014 at 3:47 pm

Caution is good, but if you read the reposting of Michael Hasting’s reporting on Bergdahl and his unit in Rolling Stone, there seems to be lots of issues there——-unit described by him, and a British doc. filmmaker who was embedded with that unit—–as one in shambles, with no discipline, no officer in charge etc.——-the recruiting at that time was when more live bodies were needed and standards were drastically lowered, accepting convicted felons and those who previously would never have passed the qualifying tests etc. Emails to parents describe the growing disgust by Bergdahl of the actions there and atrocities he witnessed——and the callousness—–the apathy—- by his fellow soldiers in response. It seems to me there could be a “possibility” that there is info Bergdahl could reveal which the others are not dying to have exposed——-thus, all this cutting him off at the pass.

    • June 4, 2014 at 4:05 pm

As ever, you’re completely fair Japa, which is one of the several reasons I still want to drag you to the altar.

But I do think the alleged incident about the child run over by a US truck is important here – Bergdahl told his parents about it (why would he lie?), the Fox boys deny it. Of course.

      Tip of the iceberg?

The Fox boys might well be the ones who end up being charged, if Bergdahl’s allegations can be proved.

There’s a ginormous agenda happening here.

      • 30 japa21
        June 4, 2014 at 4:29 pm

Oh, there are lots of agendas, plots and sub-plots, of that I have no doubt. I think, in terms of the Aghan girl being killed by the truck, I read what Bergdahl wrote and it seems to me, the incident was probably an accident. What seems to have bothered him even more though, was the lack of emotion shown by his fellow soldiers.

I agree with a lot of what you say about Bergdahl, young, probably idealistic, very disillusioned. When he talked about want to help the Afghanistan people I definitely don’t think he was thinking about the Taliban. He just was looking at ordinary people, innocents suffering through no fault of his own.

More will come out. I am content to wait. Obviously, many aren’t.

The true irony is how many people wanted him rescued, prayed for him to be rescued, but because PBO did the rescuing and handed over 5 former Taliban leaders, who have little value to the Taliban now, the whats and whys of Bergdahl’s capture suddenly has meaning.

If PBO had sent in a team to get him, and if someone had been killed in the process, would they still be attacking Bergdahl?

Dean Korder doesn’t know when he will see his son Joshua next. Or the next time he will hug him. Or tell him he loves him.

And with as many as 30,000 more troops headed for Afghanistan, Dean and his family are fearing the worst.

When 27-year-old Joshua was sent to Afghanistan in March, his family was told he would probably be back in January or February. They fear that Joshua’s time away may be extended after the announcement Tuesday that 30,000 more troops will be sent to Afghanistan.

But more troops may also make Joshua better protected, his father figures.

“It will make him safer,” Dean said. “With more troops, it makes it more visual that they are there. There is protection in numbers.”

Dean trusts Obama’s decision. And he thinks his son does, too. But he has read too many stories about soldiers killed, and with every story, he wonders if it is his son. The emotional stress becomes overwhelming.

“Personally, it’s not worth it,” he said. “But for the country, it is.”

Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) office is is pushing back on accusations that the senator and his staff were slow to respond to information on the VA scandal.

In a story published Tuesday, the Arizona Republic accused McCain and Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-AZ) of failing to respond quickly to concerns of Dr. Sam Foote, the whistleblower who first raised concerns about wait times at the Phoenix VA hospital. The newspaper reviewed correspondence between both offices and Foote, and concluded that McCain’s office was “slow to take action” and Kirkpatrick’s office “never replied” to Foote’s emails.

    ——————————–

When did this Congress care about anything but jockeying for power and undermining Obama’s? Yet now I’m expected to care about Congress and its jealously guarded rights of oversight? Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. It works both ways–and not once has this Congress lived up to its end of the bargain.

In seeking to destroy President Obama’s legitimacy, this Congress only destroyed its own.

Besides, it’s a reporting requirement, not a ‘permission’ requirement from what I’m reading. It was only inserted in the NDAA in order to make it harder for PBO to do his job as CiC, and that is what his signing statement says. And let’s be clear: these traitors would have run to the cameras and put a delicate negotiation at risk and probably risked the lives of those doing the negotiating.

There would have been no D-Day with these traitors and we’d all be speaking German. Okay, I’m Jewish. I never would have been born.

  28. June 4, 2014 at 3:48 pm

Hi TOD. I am so very upset. My brother, a Navy vet posted this on my facebook page. I was shaking when I posted a quick response, but would appreciate help in drafting a better one with specific facts. The rant is long so my apologies.

Okay, here’s the deal. I got my 30,000 check up on my SCION today. As I was waiting, I happened upon our “news” paper…The Oregonian. I read an article “The President defends his decision to release five hostages”.

POTUS used “Our country holds sacred No soldier left behind”.

Really? With all the pithy grabbers he has at his disposal, he uses “NO one left behind”! I AM LIVID!! I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I do not pretend to understand politics, much less anything else. But I HATE HATE HATE when people who know more than I, treat me like I know NOTHING. It has been five years!! It is not five days or five months. “No one left behind” as taken you five years? You make Jimmie Carter’s tactical savvy look like he was General Norman Schwarzkopf. So is that one Taliban detainee for each year? Or was it just opportunity to do what you intended all along to get more enemy operatives back in the field ? Here is what I think. I think this is a microscopic look into the lack of character and integrity of the POTUS. This soldier is NOT the only hostage. And what happened to our more sacred mantra “We will NOT negotiate with Terrorists”. Every civilian that crosses the threshold into Military service takes an oath of enlistment. Enlistment Oath.— Each person enlisting in an armed force shall take the following oath:

“I, XXXXXXXXXX, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”

Each person KNOWS they are an acceptable loss for the greater good of our Nation’s freedom.
I will continue to endure this “it’s easier to ask forgiveness than permission” POTUS, because of the place he holds. But I have hit my limit! You all can unfriend me, un-like me, flush me, un-brother me, un-uncle me. POTUS has given me a glimpse into his lack of soul, and all I will do is go through the motions until he is no longer POTUS.

Jackie…..how sad and hurtful for you. You say he is a vet, and this sounds like it is written by someone who is suffering from the results of war.
His disgust with the timing is one thing that stood out to me. One thing I know about diplomatic work, is that it is a matter of timing…..I think it took this long for the Taliban to be willing to deal, and it took an intermediary willing to do the work. These exchanges are not easily made. I, for one, am glad the Taliban was willing to deal, and am not surprised it took this long. I think they believed they could get some good out of him, they haven’t and they couldn’t.
Obviously he hasn’t read through all the material about the consultation and negotiating and the timing. Perhaps he needs to read General Dempsey’s statement, but I imagine that idea should come from someone else. I will be thinking of you and this heavy burden.

Chips’ idea of Sgt Bergdahl maybe ‘knowing stuff’ caught my eye, and reminded me of this article about a U.S. renowned ‘war hero’, who went to great lengths himself to keep war information from surfacing. I confess in 2007/8 I saw a video of him in action browbeating a family member in a hearing and I was appalled.

John McCain, who has risen to political prominence on his image as a Vietnam POW war hero, has, inexplicably, worked very hard to hide from the public stunning information about American prisoners in Vietnam who, unlike him, didn’t return home. Throughout his Senate career, McCain has quietly sponsored and pushed into federal law a set of prohibitions that keep the most revealing information about these men buried as classified documents. Thus the war hero who people would logically imagine as a determined crusader for the interests of POWs and their families became instead the strange champion of hiding the evidence and closing the books.

Almost as striking is the manner in which the mainstream press has shied from reporting the POW story and McCain’s role in it, even as the Republican Party has made McCain’s military service the focus of his presidential campaign. Reporters who had covered the Vietnam War turned their heads and walked in other directions. McCain doesn’t talk about the missing men, and the press never asks him about them.

The sum of the secrets McCain has sought to hide is not small. ……………….

I share this to remind us that some will go to great lengths to cover up their shameful (military) actions. The fact that Bergdahl mentioned atrocities and callousness on the part of his team members supports Chips’ speculation in my mind. It’s not like such possibilities are unheard of. Wasn’t there a major incident of grossly disgusting conduct that surfaced re some young friend of the Alaska Barbie’s son about the time he was in the military? It’s disgusting IMO that those making the fuss cannot separate their ‘complaints’ from the fact that Bergdahl has been brought home, give him time to heal, then pursue their grievances in the appropriate forum.

        They eased notification requirements.

And that tweet does raise some interesting questions. Were they trying to goad PBO into doing it in 2012?

Something I have given thought to. Is it possible that the Taliban turned down those terms in 2012, hoping to get for Bergdahl or because they thought Bergdahl might serve their purposes somehow or other?

If so, it would indicate that the 5 Taliban leaders aren’t all that valuable to the Taliban anymore. I wouldn’t be surprised if when they finally get home, they aren’t watched very closely by their compatriots who might suspect they have been turned by the US.

I have read that the Taliban, now that the war is being wound down, started to view Bergdahl as having less value. When PBO, Hagel, et al talked about his safety and his being at risk, they may not have been talking about his health. The Taliban may well have decided to kill him and only decided they wouldn’t if the GITMO residents weren’t released real quick.

I don’t understand how getting a POW back is such a bad thing that it would have cost President Obama re-election. I’m not sure swiftboating works anymore.

Using the pictures of the Taliban detainee released from GITMO to terrorize Scared Americans……they know how to do it and they do it loudly and they can count on the Cablers and the Alphabet News stations to do their bidding…..it is all about winning the News Cycle and drumming the Hate for the president.

Sorry, but sen Harry Reid was one of the 1st in 2009 saying that he didn’t want terrorists in his backyard. Dems were instrumental in obstructing and then stopping the Closure of GITMO within a year as POTUS had promised.

There were Graham, The guy from GA…..who later left the GOP, then ran as Reform/Libertarian candidate and JoScar were heavy lifters of the House impeachment caucus in 1998 against Clinton.

Yup! And John McCain voted in the Senate to convict Clinton and remove him from office! Strangely, the Clintons and the McCains are now close friends. That friendship seems to have been cemented during the 2008 presidential primaries when it appeared that Sen. Obama was going to be the Democratic nominee to go against McCain who had already wrapped up the GOP nomination.

    Dear Chipsticks,

I’ve said this a million times, but thank you again for this wonderful blog, where readers can get the TRUTH about the Obama administration. And thanks for pointing out that those trying to besmirch Bergdahl and his family have impure motives. Hopefully, Rachel Maddow (who is a great researcher) will follow your lead and dig up more information about those who are trying to vilify this young man. The military is investigating Bergdahl and it is a shame that Fox News and Republicans as a whole are destroying him for political reasons based on petty speculations.

Lara Logan’s suspension from “60 Minutes” appears to be over.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote on Wednesday that Logan, who has been on a leave of absence from the program since late November, when her controversial reporting on the Benghazi attacks fell apart—is back at work. Other outlets also confirmed the news.

Logan came under fire after it emerged that her main source for her Benghazi story, Dylan Davies, had lied repeatedly about his actions and whereabouts during the attacks. CBS News eventually retracted the story, and Logan apologized for her reporting on air.

Since then, questions have been raised about Logan’s closeness to the military and her increasingly opinionated interventions in the debates around American foreign policy.

There was no word from CBS on just how free Logan will be to explore the kind of territory that got her into such trouble in the past.

Chips, this post is a real piece of investigative journalism, something the msm never learned to practice or stopped doing years ago. You could teach them a lesson on questioning sources and motives and how to put it all together. If something fits their pre-packaged GOP narrative, they run with in, no matter how dubious the source. If it doesn’t fit, they suppress or mock it, no matter how good the source. This is the pathetic state of the media today.

About this: But before the media present ‘witnesses’, shouldn’t they at least vet these people to check for motives? You know, a simple Twitter search would do the job.

I’m cynical enough about the media to believe they DID vet him- liked what they saw and couldn’t wait to present these two for public consumption.. they are saying exactly what the media wants to say themselves anyway.
