Look at you, early bird! Morning Nerdy!
All I can say, Chips, is Thank You. Don’t know of a better way to start the day.
Ohhh, one of my favorite pics!!!
Morning Chips and TOD
Morning Chips have a great day!
Good Thursday Chipsticks…TODers.
Going back to try to catch-up from yesterday.
Hope everyone has an exceptional day! :-)
Morning early crew. The trouble with those who are “early to bed, early to rise” (and on EST) is that you get caught up in the late night threads and miss the early door. Yesterday was filled with so many fascinating, information-packed posts and comments, it’s gonna take hours to take it in and in the meantime, a new day dawns. I think this week’s hate frenzy is running its course. People are tiring of it and even the dim-witted are seeing it as a pile-on. Meanwhile our glorious president keeps on keeping on, knocking one thing after another out of the park.
G’morning Chips & TOD! :) Happy Thursday everyone.
President Obama needs a attack dog. A non apologetic take no prisoners person to go on Tv. A person who doesn’t apologize and doesn’t allow interruptions while speaking. Someone who stands up for what the President has done. I am sick of these wimpy democrats who are afraid of their own shadow while the repubs just say anything and that becomes the repeated narrative. All they care about is staying in office. If there is no one like that he should do it himself. No holes barred, take no prisoners, name names, deleted tweets, and callout the hypocrites on a televised address at prime time. Give them something really not to like. I personally am sick of the media, repubs and wimpy dems. It is time for a come to Jesus moment.
Keep in mind that the corporate media including cable/network/broadcast TV is owned and operated by Republicans. Thus they will NEVER allow an attack dog who routinely defends any Democratic President, let alone PBO, free reign on any of their stations, including MSNBC. This is the main reason we don’t see Dems on TV defending this President – we only see those who are attacking him. We are his attack dogs, and we do a fine good job of it. Fewer and fewer people watch TV and/or believe what they see on it. PBO has done a great job of circumventing the conventional cable TV route. Social media, blogs, and boots-on-the-ground are the primary ways of getting PBO’s agenda across to the public.
So agree! I vote for PO himself and as you said, every deleted tweet, video, etc………..every thing right there and shown on camera!! Remember how forceful he was about the ACA . This needs to be even more ” in your face”, names called, etc. So wish he would do it when he returns.
PBO got most traction on the ACA not from going on cable TV, but from alternative, nontraditional means. When he appeared on “Between Two Ferns” ACA enrollment saw a spike in website visits AND enrollment, particularly among young people.
I guess my point is that the cable TV is no longer the best way of reaching the public – where PBO’s agenda is concerned. The cable TV stations routinely black out his oversees visits, or press conferences, distort/edit his interviews, bring on GOPers to immediately criticize his live speeches, and so this President has gotten very creative in how he deals with the Republican-owned corporate media.
I don’t know if any of you recall, but he had asked at least three networks to allow him some prime time to tout the ACA enrollment, and they ALL refused. So you can’t turn around and blame him for not going on cable TV when the proprietors are largely anti-Obama and do not want him to successfully govern this country.
I think so far he has actually done an amazing job of putting his media, GOP/Libertarian, left wing, emoprog.detractors in their collective places. And he does it in a dignified manner, not by acting out of character and lowering himself in their scum.
TV news may have fewer viewers—-especially among young people, like you said—-not sure of the drop in numbers—–but they still reach millions and affect views—–when all are preaching the same slant on the same stories hour after hour day after day. I would guess millions more are exposed to MSM reporting than check twitter or a political blog. I think it’s been a huge disadvantage and obstacle to this administration’s message. It’s been extremely frustrating and infuriating to me, this failure or refusal by our news outlets to report objectively and fairly on this administration, wherever the fault lies.
Evidence supporting what HF2 is saying is that PBO won reelection handily and the success of ACA. I think older Americans stubbornly cling to a view that the msm is the way it was when Cronkite was around. They have a vestal trust that is no longer justified.
Good Morning TODers.
Debra, I absolutely agree with you. Rep. Chris Van Hollen from my state is one of a few Dems who speaks his mind and makes no excuses. I don’t often see him on TV, but when I do he impresses – at least thus far. My husband asked the other day “where are all the Senate and House Democrats speaking out about the racism and ugliness directed at the President? I don’t know. Maybe PBO has asked them to keep quiet on the subject. Or maybe they are chickenshit. I don’t know. And I also understand (from what I have read) that several Dems are grumbling because they didn’t get their 30 day notice of getting Bowe back.
As far as the media is concerned – yeah pretty useless. Look at how they reported that Bowe “left a note”. Lies WH and Hagel said there was NO note. They said 6 guys died looking for him. Hagel said there is NO confirmation of that. So the media picks up talking points without doing any investigation and blast the misinformation 24/7. I’ve learned not to look to anyone on TV for consistent truthful coverage of anything that has to do with President Obama. That’s why I love TOD and a few other blogs. So yes, I’m as pissed of the MSM as I am with the Republicans because they carry their water. And I’m damned frustrated with wimpy Democrats.
Just to repeat and hammer
@SenFeinstein – republicans unite when spreading the lies while the democrats dither when defending the truth. who is worse?— (@amk4obama) June 04, 2014
Also, @amk4obama, another question for @SenFeinstein – Are you aware which side *U* really support when you rush 2 the mike B4 all facts in?— Vick C. (@sonamie) June 05, 2014
I will tell you another Senator I am not please with, that West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, he came out of that special meeting last night with the WH sounding like McCain, Graham, Rubio.
He is a blue dog dem from West Virginia. Blue dogs usually sound like gop and are hated by liberals. But we need them in the coalition or we will have Senate majority leader McConnell. That is reality
Good morning Ms. Chips, Danny and TOD family. I hope all is well with everyone this lovely Thursday morning. Congrats NW, on being first this morning.
Moooooorning Ran Man, moooooorning everyone!
Happy Thursday TODers
Congrats on 1st NW

TIME's new cover: Bowe Bergdahl—Was he worth it? ti.me/1kMXmEy http://t.co/uB1rZpaf4K— TIME.com (@TIME) June 05, 2014
Rikyrah, I see this as one more nail in the TIME readership coffin. I unsubscribed to TIME in the early nineties and never looked back. A weekly news magazine is an anachronism and will soon take its place beside the buggy makers.
Did they ask if it was worth the thousands of deaths for a war that our soldiers — including Bowe Bergdahl — shouldn’t have been involved in in the first place!?!?!?!?!? Not to mention the treatment — mistreatment — of our soldiers while they are there as well as when they come home?
We talk about PTSD once our soldiers return home. What about the mental trauma they experience while there?
GM TOD. Can you imagine how the mother and father of this young soldier feel?? this is as low as you can go.
They certainly didn’t ask why the Bush admin abandoned the mission in Afghanistan to chase imaginary WMDs in Iraq. I’m so mad at this whole spectacle.
Very few people take Time Magazine seriously these days. They’re going the way of Newsweek.
Yes…and guess who else was sitting at the table…..none other than Tina Brown. Also Nicole Wallace.
Talk about stacking the deck with anti-Obama talking heads…..
I had to turn it off. They all talk like psychos.
Wow——-a new low. Wonder if they ever asked “Iraq war. Were the 4484 lives lost worth it?”
They didn’t. This mag is worse than a ag, it was once readable and more.
What a stupid dam cover for Time, but it’s not their first. Just what if this young soldier walk away suffering from mental issues? What are this cover saying, we should have left the soldier over there to die. Maybe the Taliban would have video tape them killing him, cutting his head off, if that had occur, what would the media and politicians be saying then? Obama had the chance to save that young American life but he didn’t. The media, the right wing haters and these politicians are full of alot of Bullshit.
It’s sad that the politics of our country has become such that it is difficult to do the right thing and that doing the right thing can subject one (and anyone associated – directly or indirectly) to attack.
Perhaps I have become desensitized and cynical to the *skewed* ranting that is prevalent on the MSM. Whatever the reason, I choose to discount their continuous attack on Sgt Bergdahl and on this President for having the *audacity* to bring a POW home. I see it as part of their on-going political/Koch-directed agenda to discredit this President; another attempt to overshadow all his good work by casting a dark cloud on his legacy.
Honestly, I find it hard to believe that ANY veteran would not be of the mindset that no soldier should be left behind. I suspect that those that are being paraded before us who think that it’s okay are in the minority. If there is reason to believe that a charge of desertion (or any other crime) is warranted, the military has procedures to deal with that.
We seem to have moved away from innocent until proven guilty and the right to face one’s accusers. Instead, we are moving towards public trial via the media based mostly on opinion and speculation rather than fact.
swb, very well stated. Thanks>>
Even Jake Tapper had to admit that EVERY soldier he interviewed was in agreement of bringing the POW home.
Good morning TOD. I’ve had to lurk a few days just to get caught up.
If I were active duty and special forces, I would volunteer for a mission if necessary to bring Sgt. Bergdahl home – alive. every life is worth saving.
One can almost feel the utter contempt that President Obama has for weak dems and republicans alike. You get the sense that President Obama is unconstrained in what he does or says, hell, even his advisers are just along for the ride at this point. It is safe to say that President Obama has beaten all challengers; it isn’t even a fair fight any more.
Indeed Don. At this point, PBO’s detractors are flailing. They constantly make themselves look like utter fools – despite a mega media propaganda machine working on their behalf. He continues to defeat them, and they’re now in the certifiably unhinged phase of their ODS….
Well-said, Don, although I think the president has a special place in his heart for the ones he trusts the most–Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, some of the staff he relies on and Patrick Duval, among others.
Can you just imagine how he feels right now ? How disgusted he must be ? By the hypocrisy, the political expediency, by the laziness, and the lack of COURAGE ? He has seen such ugliness in the last few years. But this latest episode is the worst.
Good morning & happy Thursday TOD… it is a very very happy day for us here at home… as my new granddaughter arrived in the world at 5am this morning…. weighing in at 7 lbs, 11 ozs, 20 3/4″ by the name of Avery June … named June after my mother- Evelyn June, who’s 81st birthday is in two days- so what a gift :) So excited!!

Congratulations, Sherijr!!!! Nothing makes the world seem more right than the birth of a granddaughter. Enjoy every single minute of this little one’s precious entry into your family. This is a blessing beyond price.
sheri…..lucky you! Enjoy her, I know you will. You brought back warm memories of my g’daughter’s birth. It’s been a joyous ride.

A very happy, happy Thursday indeed, Sheri! Congrats to the family and a special “WELCOME Avery June!” (I couldn’t see her picture, but I’m sure she’s cute. ) IMO this wonderful news helps put the political furor into proper perspective – thank you for sharing and redirecting my thoughts!
oh my pleasure vc :) She’s a doll, so looking forward to meeting her.. and yes it/ she makes the day beautiful, no matter the spillage from the haters out there :)
what a wonderful day for you and family sherijr – grandbabes are just the best tonic ever devised for anything at all
99, this will be the first of my grandbabies I’ll get to hold as an infant.. and see through her firsts as a baby, so excited and grateful to be a part of it all. thank you!
My life changed in an instant with the birth of my granddaughter – I never imagined the sheer joy she brings to our world.
Being close enough – but not too close :) to be part of their growing lives is a little bit of heaven here on earth, Enjoy!
my other grandkids are still little… 9, 6 and 6.. but I only saw the 9 yr old when she was 7 months.. now that I live close by- it’s wonderful. I see my 6 yr old granddaughter most… the first time she and I baked cookies together she stole my heart. But to fair- they own me, the three of them. And.. we have another one on the way, due in November :) Babies everywhere :)
You are making me jealous :) – but no – I love the grandbabe stories – should be a good Christmas in your family this year.
So wonderful! A beautiful name for a beautiful girl!
thank you MP, mom and dad wanted her middle name to be Jane, but they so thoughtfully changed it in honor of great-grandma to June, was very kind of them and brought my mother to tears.
Congratulations, sherijr for your new granddaughter. Prayers and best wishes to all. Happy Birthday to your mom who turns 81 in two days.

Senator on right’s rush to bash American POW: ‘Chill out’
The Rachel Maddow Show (6/4/2014)
Senator Chris Murphy talks with Rachel Maddow about the video that compelled the Obama administration to negotiate a deal for the release of American POW Bowe Bergdahl, and the rush to judgment by Obama opponents of Bergdahl and his family.
I would love to know which Republicans were no shows at the briefing.
They are famous for not showing up and then complaining they were not informed.
I was thinking the same thing Linda. But I won’t hold my breath waiting for the feckless media to report which senators attended the briefing.
One of my Senators, Saxby Chambliss is saying he was not briefed on Bergdahl for two years. Yet, Senator Risch-R who is also on the Intelligence Committee says they were briefed on Bergdahl almost weekly by the White House.
LH, for some reason, I can never access MSNBC videos. They just refuse to load.
Bummer, sorry to hear that JG. I have had problems with videos loading at MSNBC too. I keep trying and it usually works. I just tried the short link above and it loaded ok.
Try this one ….
my personal trick on these MSNBC videos:
once you can see the specific topic/segment you want to watch, then click on it again & wait a little bit for the advertisement to load & run;
it seems their main problem is that automatic loading the advertisements before the segment is so slow so its best that one “helps it along”
OF COURSE THE MEDIA IS AND HAS BEEN PLAYING GAMES WITH PBO’S WORKOUT…I’D LIKE TO KNOW WHO IN THE SECRET SERVICE ALLOWED THAT TO TAKE PLACE…DOESN’T HE HAVE ANY PRIVACY???????
I don’t see the big deal. So our President works out….did I miss something?
Just more idiocy. The msm/gop are attempting to make insanity appear normal. One of our political parties has lost its mind and the msm is trying to infect the public with the crazy bug.

For those who wanted to see PBO on TV – here’s something for ya! :)
Will BriWi show as much respect to President Obama as he did to Edward Snowden? Will BriWi ask good questions, or gotcha ones? I just have lost all respect for him.
Well this has been my point above, exactly. The TV media is not about objectivity, and PBO has done many of these kinds of interviews on various networks. And we see mostly that the interviews are nothing but a bunch of gotcha GOP talking points.
But some still seem to think that PBO should be on TV doing more for some reason, while I think that’s not the solution at all.
I am amazed that PBO talks with any of them – he is a man among men – but we all know that.
I’m so angry with Chris Mathews I could…
Dear GOP: The US has negotiated with Terrorists and Amnestied Them all through History
By Juan Cole
Conservatives seem to want to have it both ways. If you negotiate the release of US captives with the enemy you are “negotiating with terrorists.” If you don’t, then you have left soldiers behind on the battlefield. The fact is that the only way to have freed them was to have offered something for them in detailed negotiations. As for the Viet Cong “terrorists,” many of them are in government now and the US has cordial relations with them.
The comments to this article really described Tweety as we see him; no research and preparation for his show. He makes stuff and doesn’t give anyone a chance to finish a sentence. I have not watched his show in years.
I watched last night and his guests were practically laughing in his face……including Chuck Todd.
Unless that sentence ends with ‘never watch him again’ it is just mental masterbation. It is past time to turn off these hucksters.
Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family.
Nice to see President Obama smiling.
He smiles so much – I wonder if that is what upsets the pundits and the GOP. He never takes a bad photo.
OMG! That Time cover literally makes me sick to my stomach. *****Someone who knows how to find it and then post it here. A segment that was JUST done on Democracy NOW (Free Speech TV) was awesomely amazing!!!!!!!! A young man who was in Afghanistan the same time Bowe was. He applied for conscientious objector status when he returned to US. He was SO good, so well spoken, talked about how Congress is doing things to take the focus off themselves because THEY are the reason our soldiers are in Afghanistan and (were in) Iraq……talks about the lies that put us there, all the deaths and injuries………so, so good. Someone, please find it and post here.
just delurking to say I agree – that time cover is a disgrace. Have been watching all the BB coverage with dismay. The media and GPO are operating as a lynch mob now. It’s not reporting, it’s not opposition – just hysteria on the verge of whipping up mob violence given the chance. It”s sad to watch – terrible decline and implosion – of a nation. I truly hope this hysteria flips back on those awful accusers. I wonder how PBO can stand to spend another 2 1/2 years having to deal with such pigs. Democrats don’t defend him b’c he doesn’t suck up to them and give them endless trips on AF1 or massage their ego’s. It’s pathetic and just awful. It’s like watching the film’Johnny Guitar’.
Main video – top of page – starts at about 22 minute mark
A very GOOD MoooOOOOooorrnning/EeeevvveeNNning folks! :)
I’ll send u an email in a couple of hours from work. :-)
Per a news release from Senator Heitkamp:
U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today welcomed President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to Indian Country in North Dakota. The President and First Lady’s visit will enable Native Americans in the state to show their culture and history, and it will also help shine a light on the challenges many Native American families face, such as high rates of poverty, suicide, and abuse, and the lack of housing.
The President and First Lady will visit North Dakota’s Standing Rock Sioux Reservation on Friday, June 13. Heitkamp will join the President and First Lady during their visit to Standing Rock. The last time a sitting president visited Indian Country was in 1999 when President Bill Clinton went to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
I cannot stand her….she lies about the Keystone pipeline.
The Native Americans are against it and I hope they let PBO know in person.
Good morning, and thanks for the opening picture: Our POTUS laughing, and in the center of other world leaders…..where he belongs. Now I’ll read the news.
GM Carolyn. Pictures of PBO laughing and never letting them see him sweat causes severe Obama derangement syndrome. :)
THE LONG GAME
A negotiated peace in Afghanistan is the goal
Posted by Nancy LeTourneau
At this point, the hysteria about Sergeant Bergdahl’s home-coming is so perverse that its almost impossible for actual information to penetrate.
The announcement that the U.S. government had secured the release of missing U.S. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl and that it was freeing five senior Taliban figures from Guantanamo Bay has been portrayed first and foremost as a prisoner exchange. But the four-year history of secret dialogue that led to Saturday’s release suggests that the main goal of each side may have been far more sweeping.
It was about setting the stage for larger discussions on a future peaceful Afghanistan.

Whoa! Good morning e’rbody. I’m still asleep, RIGHT?
Today I am pretty much outraged out. Pretty much, but not totally.
Here is the question that I ask Time and all those who say we gave up too much, specially since these 5 would have to be released at the end of the year anyway. What would have been the right price? What price are you going to commit to as to what an American serviceman is worth?
I don’t hear or see anybody asking that question to those who say that we gave away too much. I want to pin these jerks in a corner and make them commit to an answer.

As I’ve been saying, PBO is never blindsided when it comes to the GOP – otherwise he wouldn’t be a two-term President. He is 10 steps ahead of the game – anyone’s game, including mine and yours.
They have already passed the point of overreaching Zizi. They always walk into his traps; they never learn. PBO is on MSNBC Live tv right now doing his presser wit Cameron.
HEADS UP: The Joint PRESSER between PBO and Cameron has already started!!!
Good morning Ms Chips and TOD! Nice to know that our president is over here on our side of the “Pond”, almost worth it to drive over to Brussels on the chance of glimpsing him somewhere. I am hoping that this absurd, overblown “poutrage” from the GOP about the Bergdahl rescue blows up in their faces.

“Conservative Entertainment Complex” zizi. Right. MSNBC is the democratic flavored broadcasting arm of the GOP and Fox is the GOP broadcasting arm of the GOP. CNN, CBS, ABC, PBS etc are main-stream flavored broadcasting arms of the GOP.
Pretty much whatever we are shown on television comes from a single point of view.
In New York the 3 biggest circulation papers present a united view. The class an educational differences are evident in the papers–stylistically— presentations but the politics are uniform
Very well stated. Knowledge and acceptance of this reaality is key.
Hillary Clinton: I’ve Had One Concussion, But Paul Ryan Has Had Three
“It was funny: At the inauguration for President Obama’s second term, I was standing [with] Paul Ryan. I said, ‘Congressman, I read that you’re a great athlete. Have you ever had a concussion?’ ‘Oh, yeah. Three at least,'” Clinton said. “I said, ‘Were they serious?’ He said, ‘One was really serious. I’m so grateful to my mother, because she said, “You’re grounded. You’re going to rest until it goes away.” And of course it did.'”
Just so you know, I’m here, BUT I have a laptop that keeps cutting in and out for no apparent reason. It just booted me out while I was trying to link to WH.gov, so I shut things down, took out the battery, and left it out. Now I’m signed in using my electrical outlet continuously – will be interesting to see how long before I get kicked out again. Ah, technology – I love to hate it (even tho I’m very familiar with the old saw, ‘a bad worker always blames his tools’)! ;)
A quick click confirmed for me that I missed Pres O’s presser. Good thing I know I don’t have to sweat it, thanks to TOD’s Bts!
I hear you, vc…. hate it, but can’t do without it! Hang in there….
Hil-lllooo, my musical friend from far away! How *are* you….and your ‘young’ musician?
All well here, thanks my friend! Hope you are also doing great!! : ))
Yep! All’s well, AndoG. My offspring actually picks up the actual diploma for his Bachelor of Fine Arts -Honours (in that begowned ceremony) next week. Of course, *I* still haven’t noticed any practical plans/ideas for its application, but I am pleased that part is almost over. :)
Fantastic! With honours no less, congratulations! I am certain that the degree application possibilities will manifest themselves…. in the meantime, enjoy the graduation festivities, and congrats to your son!
Thank you on his behalf, Andogrif!
If you ever come this way, especially with your musical son/family, maybe you all can have a fun music session together. I suspect the reason mine rarely plays at home – except when he was recording an assignment for his course – is because I’m tone deaf, not the least bit interested in classical music, and so he had no like-minded company.
That’s why I tells ya that PBO doesn’t need any Dem/attack dog “defending” him on corporate TV, when he’s armed with the facts and the truth. His performance today at the presser was an A+. We saw it; the media saw it; the Republicans saw it; the Democrats saw it. Case closed.
And yet it was not covered on Teeeveee for a purpose.
They know he is going to give succinct answers, so they black him out.
Unless you watch WH. Gov you get Wolfe Blitzer, Morning Dickhead and Chris Suckass spitting at the tv insanely! :(
It was covered by MSNBC, CNN and CSPAN.
hopefruit2 – I agree with you. PO needs no attack dog. I chuckle to myself every time because can’t nobody play the dozens better than our POTUS. He’ll let you take the first punch but then be prepared because his words will knock you out and send you crying to your momma. :-)
So proud of him!!!
