Morning Chips, Danny and early birds. Must be poignant for the president and FLOTUS to see their little girl enter her teen years–just about the toughest time there is for parent and child. Chips, do you know if the president played golf yesterday or did you have to write your sternly written letter? I’ll bet he’d do anything to avoid one of those.

Thank you Chipsticks for bringing Dr. Maya Angelou to us on yesterday in all its splendor and glory…….BEAUTIFUL!

She is gone but never to be forgotten.

Her words of wisdom are potent; food for the mind, soul and spirit.

Thank you Dr. Angelou for giving us wisdom,

    ***************************************************************************
    • The honorary duty of a human being is to love.

    • Living a life is like constructing a building: if you start wrong, you’ll end wrong.

    • History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.

    • Love is that condition in the human spirit so profound that it allows me to survive, and better than that, to thrive with passion, compassion, and style.

    • There is nothing so pitiful as a young cynic because he has gone from knowing nothing to believing nothing.

    • The main thing in one’s own private world is to try to laugh as much as you cry.

    • Bitterness is like cancer. It eats upon the host. But anger is like fire. It burns all clean.

    • Self-pity in its early stages is as snug as a feather mattress. Only when it hardens does it become uncomfortable.

    • If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded.

    • We allow our ignorance to prevail upon us and make us think we can survive alone, alone in patches, alone in groups, alone in races, even alone in genders.

    • Human beings are more alike than unalike, and what is true anywhere is true everywhere, yet I encourage travel to as many destinations as possible for the sake of education as well as pleasure.

    – Dr. Maya Angelou

Good morning all – it’s almost Monday in my world – but one of those delightful holiday Mondays. Tomorrow we celebrate the birthday of QEII – I’m not entirely sure why because she has a birthday in April – it may relate back to the birthday of Queen Victoria. Don’t really know why we still do this – but any excuse for a holiday & the grandbabe is visiting with her mother – so a good day to be me :)

    • June 8, 2014 at 8:39 am

Good evening 99ts! I never figured out either why she has two birthdays, does that mean she’s actually 176?

      • 51 99ts
        June 8, 2014 at 8:47 am

She’s a well preserved 88 – that’s for sure – will probably live longer than her mother (& so help me I queued for 6 hours to see that “resting in state” ). When you count the number of PMs, Presidents and other various notables she has conversed with over the years, she has to have lived those 176 years compared to some of the mere mortals of my time.

General opinion is that Mrs Thatcher was her least liked PM – so the Queen will always remain on my favorites list given the sanity of that opinion.

        • June 8, 2014 at 8:50 am

She’s had an extraordinary life, 99ts. I’m not a fan of the British royal family at all, but she seems to be several classes above all of them. She was outstanding during her visit to Ireland, which, of course, was controversial. Was really impressed by her.

          • 53 99ts
            June 8, 2014 at 9:03 am

I fell in love with her when I was 7 and she rode around the country standing at the back railing of a railway carriage waving to all and sundry who had their noses pressed against the railway fences. The media advertised the time the train would be passing through every station on the city networks. No security – no scares – and the couple must have stood for hours!

The rest of them, as you say – a sad lot. I think we’ll probably become a republic when she is no more – I’m really not in favor of a US style President – so hope they have a “figurehead” rather than the problems with a parliament/president from different parties.

            • June 8, 2014 at 9:18 am

Wow, the idea that she could travel around like that then, changed times indeed. It will be very interesting to see how many countries push to become Republics after her time, I can’t imagine Charles will inspire much devotion, although I’d guess William, after him, would be popular enough.

                June 8, 2014 at 9:34 am

mmm – I must be weirder than I thought – I’d much prefer Charles – I rather like the spunk of Camilla telling them all to like it – or not!

        • June 8, 2014 at 9:01 am

She has been queen for almost all of my 67 years. She is the Grande – mother of many of my generation. She is an enduring symbol. Hope she does live as long as her mother if not longer.

Media never reports these good things…unless they happen to PBO or other Democrat.

    • 61 99ts
      June 8, 2014 at 8:55 am

They spent months in 2010 reporting the RWNJs calling out the democrats at the town halls. This is no 4th estate – they are part of the GOP. – the story quoted by the orange includes this quote

“Facing a projected deficit of more than $1.2 billion, Mr. Corbett said he hoped that the state’s negotiations with the federal government on his proposal to expand Medicaid through a private insurance model might be part of the budget solution.
But he’s not counting on it.
“We’ve been having very good discussions,” he said during the governors’ brief news conference.
“I certainly hope that the people in Washington aren’t going to slow this down for any budgets or for campaign issues … We think it can help us resolve this.””

Corbett has had YEARS to sort out the medicaid expansion – but let’s blame Washington if they take a little time to verify his attempt to win a few votes with federal money. Disgusting people.

Hf, why that idiot Corbett thought he would get away with teaming with Christie and not invite protest is beyond me. He is tone deaf and oblivious to what’s happening around him. The day we see his backside hit the exit door is the day I’m dancing in the street.

  12. June 8, 2014 at 8:52 am

It is absolutely shameless how the media was in lockstep with the GOP smear campaign against Sgt.Bergdahl…in their attempt to smear the President…

    from the article:
The U.S. military has every right to conduct its investigation of Bergdahl’s disappearance, but that in no way will impact the way this community will view the boy who danced in its ballets, worked in its eateries and wandered its majestic mountains.

Says Schoen (Blaine County Commissioner) : “When he does return, those here who know and love Bowe will welcome him back with open arms.”

Gov Bobby Jindal and Michael Steel have that same need for that all important “pat on the back.” How else to explain both these men standing by and watching their party call this President every name in the book but the son of god, and doing and not saying anything about it?

You know, at some point in time every voter must decide rather to keep letting politicians stick their foot up their asses. I am sick and tired of people blaming politicians; it’s the story of the scorpion and the frog. Yes, McCain Cantor and Boehner are going to bite the shit out of you if you keep them in office.

    • 77 hopefruit2
      June 8, 2014 at 9:14 am

I agree – the voters who keep voting for these GOP idiots because of their own issues with racism, sexism, classism, xenophobia and homophobia…I’m sure the Bergdahl’s are learning this very important lesson…you vote, thinking other people and not you will suffer, and you wind up being the victim of your own actions.

      • 78 Don
        June 8, 2014 at 9:19 am

Yep! God bless them but the Bergdahls’ are prime examples of this thinking. The very people that they’ve voted far are now calling their son every name in the book.

    Hi TOD.
A few days ago some of us—me for example—got excited about a rumor concerning US/Iran.
Here is what’s happening now. Not a rumor.
The United States and Iran are having 2 party talks in Geneva. The sole topic is said to be Iran’s nuclear capacity.
At first only low level participants, but now senior officials of both countries involved.
Nothing is assured, but I am hopeful.

With some details beginning to emerge about Bergdahl’s captivity—–tortured, beaten and kept in a dark cage after escape attempts—–perhaps the unhinged, enraged haters ought to pause for a minute before continuing their death threats against the parents and condemning him and his hometown to hell for all eternity——and wait for the full story, for confirmed facts, for truth. Just a thought.

I think the media is trying to backtrack like they had nothing to do with driving the GOP’s Bergdahl’s talking points. I see Candy Crowley had John McCain on and tried to pretend like she was pushing back on his narrative. It is too late. They have trashed Bergdahl before even knowing what was true and untrue. They trashed his parents who are now receiving death threats. The media is full of as much crap as repubs. They are disgusting.

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/john-kerry-bergdahl-taliban-cnn-interview

“I don’t think anybody should doubt the capacity of the United States of America to protect Americans,” Kerry said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” when asked about the five Taliban members released from Guantanamo Bay in the prisoner swap. “So these guys pick a fight with us, in the future or now or at any time, at enormous risk, and we have proven what we’re capable of doing with al Qaeda.”

“I’m not telling you that they don’t have some ability at some point to go back and get involved, but they also have an ability to get killed doing that,” he said, also noting that the Qataris aren’t the “only ones keeping an eye on” the released Taliban members over the next year.
