I am still in such shock over this news. This is such a hugely busy week for me I can hardly keep up with all the news. Really wonder how all this will work out. I so trust our President. Thank you all for all the information on this blog. It’s the only place I go to find out what is going on. Now I wonder how this day will go.

    Have a good one everyone.

According to Chuck Schummer, 70% of the REPUBLICANS in Cantor’s district were very or somewhat in favor of immigration reform. So Cantor did not lose because his support for CIR!

He had a majority of the 14% turnout.

This is the point: we are turning over our government to an insanely small sliver of nutjob voters. And it’s our own damned fault. All we have to do it SHOW UP AND VOTE.

Brat. He’s worse. he’s a religious nut who believes in theocratic government. His entire education is evangelical nut job. He wrote a paper – An Analysis of the Moral Foundations in Ayn Rand.

Ayn Rand the atheist with a Calvin-loving now-Catholic evangelical nut job. Wow. Just wow.

So to summarize Chuck Schumer’s basic points on Immigration reform:

    1. Eric Cantor did NOT support Immigration reform – and that may have actually contributed to his loss since at least 70% of his district, regardless of Party affiliation were in support of Immigration reform.

    2. The Democrats are giving the House GOP no more than 7 weeks to bring the CIR bill to the floor (before the August recess).

    3. If they fail to pass the bill or don’t bring it to the floor, the President will act on his own accord, and the GOP will face the consequences going to the midterms and thru the 2106 elections.

      June 11, 2014 at 12:20 pm

Good plan….. If the effing dems stick with it.

      • June 11, 2014 at 1:25 pm

All the Dems have to do is watch the time go by then watch the President take action. The whole ball of wax is in Boehner’s court. No one else.

        • 50 amk for obama
          June 11, 2014 at 1:27 pm

My point is just watch the dems bitch and moan when PBO does take some action.

          • June 11, 2014 at 1:53 pm

No surprise there.Win or lose that’s how they roll. In this instance I don’t see Dems doing a whole lot of complaining for the simple reason that not doing some kind of immigration reform is moving toward political suicide. Nancy will be begging PBO to drop the hammer.

The Dems have SO MUCH going for them for the 2014 midterms…

        1. Immigration Reform
        2. Student Loan debt refinancing
        3. Unemployment Insurance Benefits extension
        4. Medicaid Expansion in certain states

Meanwhile, the stuff they have ALREADY accomplished in just the last 2 years

        1. ACA exchanges/medicaid expansion
        2. EPA regulations
        3. Sustained economic growth, bull market, job creation
        4. Winding down of Afghanistan war, not starting new wars

What exactly do the GOP have in 2014?
        1.
        2.
        3.
        4.
        5. Chuck Todd “enthusiasm gap” polls…

  24. June 11, 2014 at 12:26 pm

Let’s be absolutely clear about the bullshyt meme that the sycophants in the MSM want to push now because of Cantor’s loss.

All that was ‘lost’ because of Cantor’s loss, i.e. Immigration Reform and the VRA.

NOTHING was stopping Cantor from doing Immigration Reform before his loss, and even if you say that his opponent running on it was the reason he denied a vote in the House, ok. His ass has lost now. He has nothing to lose. Bring the bill up for a vote.

Now, as far as that VRA is concerned, I feel like climbing through the computer screen and bytchslapping you myself.

The reason why they won’t even hold hearings on the VRA IS BECAUSE THEY DON’T WANT TO FIX THE VRA.

They are VERY pleased by what the Supreme Court has done and anyone who wants to write anything other than that can kiss my entire Black ass.

Eric Cantor was part of the GOP cabal that met

    ON JANUARY 20, 2009

And chose to commit ECONOMIC TREASON AGAINST THIS COUNTRY.

So, what the fuck do I care if his replacement will also commit economic treason against this country?

Right-Wing Billionaires To Use California Ruling to Nationally Crush Teachers’ Unions
    By: Rmuse
    Wednesday, June, 11th, 2014, 9:57 am

If one was to examine why some poor children fail in schools and attempted to come up with the reasons why, they might say huge budget shortfalls, poverty, poor parenting skills, disparity between rich and poor neighborhood school funding, unsafe school environments, or a lack of access to technology. However, if you are corporate moguls, billionaires, and privatization advocates, the only reason nine poor students failed is because of public school teachers’ due process protections. Due process protections include not being fired without a reason, receiving a fair hearing when a parent complains their child did not earn a high grade, or worst of all belonging to a union. None of those due process protections have any impact on teacher competence or a students’ success, but being assigned a teaching position in a poor neighborhood with underfunded schools does.

What the Republican Party, Koch brothers, Michelle Rhee, the religious right, and billionaire corporate owners all have in common regarding education is destroying public schools, privatizing the education system, and breaking teachers’ unions. There have been unsuccessful attempts in the past to privatize California’s public school system, but the public and legislature are adamantly opposed, so a conglomerate of billionaires, corporations, and for-profit charter school advocates appealed to a Republican judge for assistance and he complied. On Tuesday a judge ruled in a lawsuit filed by billionaires that California teachers’ due process protections are unconstitutional and the reason nine students in poor neighborhood schools were unsuccessful.

My only hope is that all hell break lose and the mainstream media won’t be able to obfuscate anymore the FACT that the problem in Washington is solely the republican nihilists. So in november, democrats, independents, moderate republicans wake up, go to the polls and vote the crazies OUT !!

I’ve been checking the Israeli newspapers for the reaction to the Last Jew on the Repub side of Congress to lose his seat and here is what I’ve found so far:
    1) Ha’eretz—left leaning—fair article and the comments tend towards thinking that maybe this is the wakeup call that American Jews need to stop backing AIPAC so thoughtlessly and reflexively. A view I agree with.
    2) Israel HaYom—Sheldon Adelstein’s vanity self-financed rag—-gives an emotionless account without mentioning implications.
    3) Jerusalem Post —nothing memorable—meaning i read the piece but already have forgotten what it says.

In time we will see how the vast Jewish Republican donor network feels about the lack of even one of their heritage in congress. Cantor made them comfortable.

Let’s see what happens when the party more and more resembles Golden Dawn in Greece or any of the other RW anti-immigrant parties in Europe.

That being said, I’m stunned that the Iraqi Army was so weak in Mossul. How in the world a bunch of extremists had it so easy ? Poor Iraqi civilians. They’re going to suffer a great deal.

    Elections have consequences ….

Funds saved during the presidential elections to be directed by Government to financing army

“The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will direct UAH 575 million saved from holding the presidential election campaign in one round to financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guards. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk informed at a Government’s session on Wednesday, June 11.

The Head of Government explained that on June 10 the President of Ukraine had appealed to the Government with a proposal to make amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the State Budget”: “Insofar that the elections were conducted in one round, in fact we economize the funds planned for the elections of the President of Ukraine”.

The Prime Minister stressed, on the final calculations of the Central Election Commission the sum of the saved funds amounts UAH 575 million: “This is the sum we can direct to our army”.

According to him, the Finance Ministry has readied relevant changes to the State Budget.”

Republicans Block Elizabeth Warren’s Student Loan Bill That Would Have Helped 40 Million

    By: Jason Easley
    Wednesday, June, 11th, 2014, 12:14 pm

Senate Republicans have blocked Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s student loan refinancing bill that would have helped 40 million borrowers because it would have raised taxes on millionaires.

Warren’s student loan refinancing bill, the Bank on Students Emergency Loan Refinancing Act, failed by a vote of 58-38. (Harry Reid changed his vote to a no for procedural reasons.) Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Bob Corker (R-TN) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) were the only Republicans to vote for the bill.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said, “In America today, millions of Americans are caught in financial quicksand, and they are looking for a helping hand to pull them to safety. Instead, the Republican leader has reaffirmed his commitment to the status quo. Why reform today, what he and his party say they’ll reform next year?”

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) continued to hide the real reason why he was blocking the bill, “The Senate Democrats’ bill isn’t really about students at all. It’s really all about Senate Democrats Because Senate Democrats don’t actually want a solution for students. They want an issue to campaign on — to save their own hides in November.”

Actual PPP results of immigration reform in Cantor’s district: http://aufc.3cdn.net/df62bab5a39cc3568d_eym6bn24d.pdf

    Date: June 11, 2014
A new Public Policy Polling survey conducted in Eric Cantor’s district last night finds that both Cantor and the
GOP House leadership are deeply unpopular, even with Republican voters, and that likely led to his loss.
Despite much speculation that Cantor’s position on immigration reform might have cost him the election, it is
actually quite popular in his district and voters want to see Congress act on it this year.

-72% of voters in Cantor’s district support the bipartisan immigration reform legislation on the table in
Washington right now to only 23% who are opposed. And this is an issue voters want to see action on. 84%
think it’s important for the US to fix its immigration system this year, including 57% who say it’s ‘very’
important. Even among Republicans 58% say it’s ‘very’ important, suggesting that some of the backlash against
Cantor could be for a lack of action on the issue.

If this is for real, the Trammel can win this with the right messaging.
