David Jackson: Obama: I’d Like To Visit New Zealand

President Obama welcomed New Zealand Prime Minister John Key to the White House on Friday, and said he would like to return the favor soon by visiting New Zealand. “I hear it’s really nice,” Obama said. “We’re going to be working with my scheduler.” One opportunity for a New Zealand visit comes in November, after Obama attends a Group of 20 nations summit in Brisbane, Australia. By that time, Obama is looking for major progress on a 12-nation Asia-Pacific trade deal known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Obama and Key appear to have a good relationship. They even played a round of golf together in January while both were vacationing in Hawaii.

Hi JG. It’s going to be a low voter turnout for this primary. The early voting was low as well. It’s summer and people are not focused on the election. Far too many didn’t even realize we had a primary going on. That’s hard to believe considering the tv ads but people are just not paying attention. My candidate for Governor looks to be in good shape to win his primary but we Dems have a lot of work to do between now and November to get our coalition out in strong numbers this year.

Mark Knoller better “clear his calendar” if the President’s going golfing! Ha ha ha. (Mark once attended a WHPCA dinner with his date, an umbrella.) (Am I going to hell for that last parenthetical?)

A George Will column about sexual assault, which received lots of criticism and caused one newspaper to drop the longtime syndicated conservative columnist, had all male editors, the Washington Post’s Erik Wemple reported on Friday.

“On that day, there were three males, if that is important to you,” Alan Shearer, CEO and editorial director of Washington Post News Media Services, which is the company that syndicates Will’s columns, told Wemple in response to a question about whether any women had reviewed the column.

Shearer said Thursday that the editorial team had discussed the piece’s content at length with Will before it was published, Wemple reported.

    Why We Can’t Back Down;

Reverend Al just finished his segment on James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner. Tomorrow will mark the 50th Anniversary of “Freedom Summer.” These 3 young men went out and gave their lives for everyone to have the right to vote. Schwerner’s widow, Rita Bender is still involved and committed to making sure that we don’t lose our voting rights. She conveyed to Reverend Al how black children were killed in Mississippi “just because they were black.”

Bender stayed and continued the work of the Freedom workers and she is still active today. July 21st 1964 was an ugly period in history but the young people, of all races were willing to be jailed, beaten, and killed for our rights to vote. We must not quit, we must not stop, and we can not back down.

To see the young bodies once again, of Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner; charred and thrown out and buried like trash after they were murdered by the KKK, ignited something deep within me. I will do all that I can to make sure that people are voting in the midterms in 2014 and again in 2016. We must never forget history, and we must remember; young people gave their lives, non blacks and those of different faith, died so that we can vote.

Polls are supposedly saying that President Obama ratings have tanked, and it looks like the Democrats will not hold the Senate. I say, the hell with polls; your vote and my vote, and Democrats going to the polls to vote ,is the only thing that counts. Polls don’t vote.

WE MUST NOT QUIT AND WE CAN’T BACK DOWN IN 2014!

To me – this is everything about PBO in one small sentence ” Iraq must find political solution to crisis.”

A political leader wants a political decision – not a military enforcement – since forever, no invasion has resulted in a good result – for the original invader – this one sentence from PBO is the reason he earned and received the Nobel Peace prize. His reaction to those who warmonger around him over the past 12 months show why he has earned a second one.

Hmmmm. I wonder if they are implying that a goat or two in *my* yard would take care of my very healthy weeds? Anyone here in the village want to lend me a goat so I can test the theory? Plus, will the goats also destroy the grass and other purchased plants or will they know enough to stick to the weeds?

Goats! They’re hilarious! I love them they just want to know if you have something to eat for them. Cute little guys. :-)

    • June 20, 2014 at 8:11 pm

Goats will eat anything that doesn’t run away from them.

I guess they have that in common with Danny. ;)

The travel writer Paul Theroux said that you can tell Muslim versus Christian areas when flying over the Balkans by how the landscape is grazed.

Can’t remember now which animal he compared pig grazing to, but it might have been goats. I think this was in Pillars of Hercules.

IOW, goats don’t have a stopping point. Okay, Arap, I’ll keep my weeds along with my grass.

I have a question. Is it possible to find out when a picture was taken ? One of my friends on facebook has a reference to Allen West that shows a picture of people lying face down and going to be shot. I am suspicious that is it is a recent picture. Of course he is blasting the President. I told them Allen West is a jackass

    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/obama-no-amount-of-american-firepower-can-hold-iraq-together/

:We gave Iraq the chance to have an inclusive democracy,” Obama said, “to work across sectarian lines to provide a better future for their children. And unfortunately what we’ve seen is a breakdown of trust.”

“Part of the task now is to see whether Iraqi leaders are prepared to rise above sectarian motivations, come together, compromise,” he continued. “If they can’t, there’s not going to be a military solution to this problem. There’s no amount of American firepower that’s going to be able to hold the country together.”

“Ultimately what I think the vast majority of Americans understand is that we can’t do it for them,” he concluded, “and we certainly can’t redeploy tens of thousands of U.S. troops to try to keep a lid on the problem if the people themselves don’t want to solve it.”

    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/obama-fantasy-to-think-syrian-rebels-could-have-beaten-assad-with-u-s-arms/

He said there was no “ready-made moderate Syrian force that was able to defeat Assad,” and so pitting “farmers and dentists and folks who’ve never fought before” against a dictator and the “highly-trained jihadists” would have only one outcome.

Therefore, Obama continued, it’s a “fantasy” that the U.S. just sending a few arms to the moderate rebels would have helped, and he got in a little dig at the end by saying this is something that Washington and the press corps should understand better.
