hey Dudette My husband gave to DCCC, i gave to Planned Parenthood, OFA, Allison, Grimes, Shaheen, and wendy davis…..small amount but some were matched. I had trouble figuring out whether I should just can the full amount to onme person or spread it around. What do others do? Thanks

I spread around too, like to feel like supporting many, even if token amounts. The Act Blue counter is going berserk trying to keek up with donations.. All that helped defeat McDaniel now come out and defeat Cochran. Give him some karma.

Well done, otter44! I like to spread mine around a little, but the main thing is to put your money where your heart is. :-)

Posted this on another thread, and it’s almost too late to matter for this quarter, but Sam Wang (statistician from Princeton) suggests the following top races: Begich in Alaska, Lundergan-Grimes in Kentucky, Braley in Iowa, Udall in Colorado, Nunn in Georgia, and Landrieu in Louisiana. Perhaps also Pryor in Arkansas. These are all Democrats in tight races.

Gave some to Michelle Nunn after the primary. Happy to do it again. We need to turn that seat BLUE!
Let’s hit the rest of them with a money bomb in the next quarter for sure, Judith. Every little bit helps!

    • June 30, 2014 at 11:11 pm

I have had a very small, monthly donation to DCCC since 2012. Tonight I added a bigger one and also donated to Garry Peters for Senate. I wish I could do more, but that’s it for now.

Interfaith Alliance Says the Supreme Court Made a Grave Error in Hobby Lobby Decision

    ——————————-

“The Supreme Court made a grave error today. The balance between religious freedom and other compelling interests has always been tenuous, but we may very well remember today’s decision as the moment that balance was radically recalibrated. Not only has the Court, for the first time in history, expanded the definition of religious freedom to include for-profit corporate entities, it has determined that the free exercise of those employers outweighs that of their employees. The First Amendment is at its best when it is used to protect the rights of minorities from the whims of the powerful. Today’s decision, which gives the powerful the right to force their religious beliefs on those around them, is a far cry from the best traditions of religious freedom.”

I hear ya’, VC! But let me be one of the first to wish us Canadians a very happy and pleasant Canada Day tomorrow! Good to start it off by sending Mercury on its direct way!! Things will ease up a bit in the next few days.. (I continue to agree with MadameSoph that this couldn’t have been better time to hand down such a poor decision from the Highest Court Bench, SCOTUS. Whole country is in an uproar, rightfully so!)

Thank you kindly, and a happy Canada Day to you too!

I didn’t think we’d start building momentum towards November already, but I guess Republicans have decided to get a head start by lighting bush fires wherever they pass. They have got to be the most consistently clueless politicians I have ever come across. There are no signs I see that suggest these (mostly) guys have learnt anything in the past 6-7 years!

So I will admit i only had about 15 minutes at work to look on the Internet today over the heinous decision from the High Court. But I was very puzzled by the tweets from Scotus blog. Usually it’s been fairly professional attorney- like tweets in the past. But today it seemed to be mostly snark which wasn’t what I was looking for from them – as I can find that anywhere. What am I missing on this?

Eventually, this country needs to move away from employer-based health insurance and allow universal access to the ACA exchanges. Instead of jerking employees around with inadequate health care plans, corporations would have to pay higher taxes for a national system that works for everyone. Would love to see some states going this route as a step to a future single payer system. Employers are always going to find ways to screw over lower paid employees and health insurance has to be seen as a bedrock right, no matter who you work for. Democratic Congresses, combined with a Democratic president and a change in just one Supreme Court judge can make this happen. Employer-based health insurance is a relic of another age.

President Poroshenko takes it to #TzarVlad ….

““We will attack and liberate our land. Termination of ceasefire is our response to terrorists, insurgents, marauders, everyone who tortures civilians, paralyzes the economy of the region, disrupts payments of salaries, pensions, scholarships, blasts the railroad, destroys the water pipes and deprives people of normal peaceful life,” the President said in his address to the people.”
