    So it’s now Belgium 2, US -0

Well folks, I think it’s time to face some harsh reality. Only a miracle will bring this game to a tie in less than 10 mins.

      • July 1, 2014 at 6:58 pm

Some of the tweets I read wrecked my head Bob. Ignorant fools who just assumed the US should beat Belgium because, you know, Belgium is small  If they knew anything, they’d be aware that Belgium has one of the most gifted squads in world soccer, and only Brazil and Spain’s, out of the 32 World Cup qualifiers, have a higher transfer value. So, the US effort against them was IMMENSE!!!!

Indeed, Chipsticks! Total idiots who know nothing about Soccer! How long has the U.S. been playing professional Soccer (football) compared to how long Belgium has been playing. I only watched the late second half and extra time, but I was so impressed with the heart and tenacity of the U.S. Soccer team. Very few people expected it to go this far. And today the players played a gutsy game. I am so proud of this U.S team and their exceptional goal keeper. I actually think that Belgium has a chance to win the world cup.

In 2003, Wikipedia, Tim Howard played for your team, Manchester United?

        • July 1, 2014 at 7:09 pm

He did Nena! :-) He was hugely popular, but didn’t have the best of times, and when United signed the very excellent Dutch goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, that really was the end of Howard’s time with the club. But he’s been excellent for Everton, he’s having a great career. He has Tourette’s syndrome too, so he has had a lot to overcome.

            July 1, 2014 at 7:14 pm

I read about TH having Tourette Syndrone too. The guy is a Force. ESPN has show later with blocks of the game shown. Now that my nerves have calmed down. I am actually looking forward of watching it later tonight.

Exactly! People somehow forget that professional soccer is relatively new to the U.S. compared to the other parts of the world, but especially compared to Europe and South America. Belgium has some of the most talented players in the world. Other big countries, in terms of population, like Russia, Japan, and Nigeria lost too. The size of the country’s population has absolutely no relevancy to the team on the field. All you need is 11 talented individuals. Actually, little Costa Rica won with only ten men on the field.

And I woke up to come and talk about our tennis teenager – and everyone wants to talk football!

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-07-02/kyrgios-pulls-off-incredible-wimbledon-upset-win-over-nadal/5564550

Australian teenager Nick Kyrgios has pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Wimbledon history, beating world number one Rafael Nadal in four sets to reach the quarter-finals.

The 19-year-old, the youngest man in the draw, turned a remarkable Wimbledon main draw debut into a spectacular one, defeating the Spaniard 7-6 (7/5), 5-7, 7-6 (7/5), 6-3 in just under three hours on Centre Court on Tuesday.

Thanks Bob – also very unexpected – although I think he spent much time learning to play on grass – very different to all the other surfaces

Meanwhile our world cup team – We did score the odd goal (that is remarkable) – but lived up to the position on Chips list – 2nd last.

    • July 1, 2014 at 7:19 pm

“And I woke up to come and talk about our tennis teenager – and everyone wants to talk football!”
