I know COS, I am making Putato Salad for a group BBQ here on our building. No serving lunch on Friday. The volunteers that help serve the Senior meals daily are getting together for a BBQ. Should be fun. Going to my Nephews tonight for dinner. Working Saturday. Busy weekend.
How about everyone on TOD, any big plans?

I was watching some guy on CNBC or one of those other money/finance channels and he said the economy is doing great. So for the life of me I can’t figure out these doomsday assholes and their constant the sky if falling routine.

Actually, I have not heard that in this area or among people I know. Houses are selling, there are lots of jobs available, stores are opening, credit is easier. There may be pockets of the country that will never come back, but that was going to happen anyway as old manufacturing towns continue to die. On the other hand, new businesses are moving into our area and the home construction is through the roof.

      Truth.

They can lie their way in midterms when some people aren’t paying quite as much attention or showing up at the polls but not in a presidential election.

        July 3, 2014 at 1:39 pm

Yep. Everyone remembers that “Where Are the Jobs” BS leading up to the 2010 mid-terms. They lied about how their main focus would be about helping to create jobs. We see how that was all bold-faced lies. I hope voters see through any GOP attempts to move to the center now.

Morning. I got lured off by a link in the earlier thread and, once again, missed the opening door. Oh well. The media wing of the Republican party did a pretty good job of distracting us from the goal yesterday with their bogus polls. Let’s not let it happen again. The DSCC is raising record amounts, people are energized, we are making progress. When the media/GOP complex gets desperate, they start throwing stuff against the walls hoping we’ll lose our focus. We’ve got lots of work left to do, so to hell with the distractions. Have a great day!

Good Morning, jackieG. I hope your Thursday will be a lovely one. Your comment is so right on, JackieG. People are waking up, I do believe and are starting to get the message from the president. I really do hope so. I have been up all night. Cannot sleep. That happens to me when I have been exposed to the sun and the strong heat outside. I was out running important errands and the heat drained me. I do not do well in the sun. I have an terrible reaction to it. As I have gotten older, my reactions have gotten longer. However, I feel fine, and my doctor was contacted by me this evening to inform him of my non sleeping. He is a wonderful physician, so all will be well.

I did some paper work that was left over from two days of this week as well as relaxed by trying to stay quiet and keep my head elevated. Plus made some contact with my brother; {he is a neat cheer me upper} so I feel that I am blessed to be here, and certainly here with my TOD family.

      Chips, thank you and a beautiful Thursday morning to you and my handsome Danny. {{{{{{{Lots of loving hugs.}}}}}}}}

Let us keep POB and VPBiden and the entire Cabinet in our thoughts and prayers as they are making tough decisions as so much is unfolding; but we all know that as long as he knows that we have his back; he and VPBiden will continue to do great. We are so blessed to have PBO in the WH. So grateful for them and all the hard work that they are doing and will be doing for all of us. Keep Sec. Jeh Johnson and AG Eric Holder in your prayers and meditations. HZ

HZ, I know exactly what you mean about the heat, which is affecting me more and more as I get older. I can’t take prolonged periods outside in the summer since it makes me dizzy. Fortunately almost nothing affects my sleep, except anger at Republicans, so I try to put that away at night. Love the inspiration that you bring, HZ and love you, too.

  12. July 3, 2014 at 8:14 am

So true JG. In the last week, President Obama has been relentless in hammering Boehner about his silly lawsuit. In Minnesota, the Rose Garden then at the Key Bridge, President Obama dispensed a bit of truth about Boehner and his obstructionist party. It was no surprise that yesterday morning we were greeted with the rigged poll (aka shiny object) to distract attention from the fact that PBO was ripping Boehner a new one. And he’s not done yet. This lawsuit has been a gift because it just makes it so easy to point out that President Obama is governing and the GOP is doing nothing. When Boehner was pressed for specifics about his lawsuit, he put on his serious face and essentially said I’ll have to get back to you on that. smdh

Flipping the script on Boehner’s anti-Obama lawsuit

    By Steve Benen

    ——————————-

The NRSC, whose website appears to be a sad Buzzfeed knockoff, complete with a few too many gifs, apparently has evidence of the president’s “out-of-control agenda” and Obama adopting “the governing philosophy of [an] Imperial President.” Here’s the whole list, exactly as it appeared on the NRSC site:

    1) The time President Obama waived Obamacare for Unions, but not for you.

    2) The time The Obama Administration spied on journalists and wouldn’t say why.

    3) The time President Obama decided to attend the Senate Democrats retreat but not campaign with any of them.

    4) The time President Obama restricted journalists from taking video and photos of him. Instead forcing them to use media provided by the White House.

    5) The time President Obama delayed the KeystoneXL pipeline for more than 5 years, costing tens of thousands of jobs.

    6) The time President Obama told you, you could keep your health plan even though he knew you couldn’t.

It’s truly pathetic, LH. We should all laugh these dimwits off the public stage. In Elizabethan times, the audience threw eggs, oranges and anything else they had. They also laughed and booed. No Elizabethan play, no matter how poor, could be as bad as the Republican party and their antics.

Decision Looms In Lawsuit That May Actually Crush Obamacare

At issue is whether the statute permits the federal exchange (which serves residents of 34 states which opted not to build their own) to dole out premium tax credits. Without the subsidies, which are benefiting millions of lower-income Americans, the individual mandate is unworkable because many people won’t be able to afford insurance. And without the mandate, the coverage guarantee for preexisting conditions threatens to send costs soaring and destabilize the health care market.

The challenge was initially written off by some as a fool’s errand because there’s a lack of evidence that the Democrats who crafted and passed the Affordable Care Act intended to block subsidies on the federal exchange, which was designed as a backstop on behalf of the states. (They’ve signed a brief saying as much.) But the challengers seized on an ambiguity in the language of the statute which says the subsidies are to be provided by “an Exchange established by the State.”

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/halbig-obamacare-ruling-looms-dc-circuit

Do these dipshits realize that all of Congress which receives Federal subsidies had to join the DC exchange ? DC is not a STATE, therefore they too would all lose their taxpayer funded subsidies ?

I swear..this country is getting dumber by the day.

  30. July 3, 2014 at 9:20 am

Morning Ms Chips and TOD Folks

I lurk a lot but don’t write at all, so you may not be aware of me. Be that as it may and by way of breaking the ice here is a quiz: What is the oldest board game in the world?
Scholarly consensus seems to suggest that it is from Africa and it is the counting game called by various names Mancala, Owari, Morabaraba, Chisolo or Kalah etc. Previously it was thought chess or checkers was most ancient but archaeology seems to be showing that Mancala group of games pre-dates them even. It has been played for generations and it is safe to say it is the most popular traditional board game on the African continent as all you need to play it are holes on the ground and stones or pebbles. It is also one of the most strategic of the board games requiring cunning thought and skill to win, akin to chess.

So what am I after really? Well… I am the developer of the popular rendition of the ancient African board game which has been published on iTunes under the name eMoraba. I am an African, born in Botswana and studied programming in Brighton UK. I live in Gaborone and am trying to start up a game development studio here, first to reduce my own unemployment, but also to create jobs for our newly minted IT graduates who are finding it hard to get meaningful jobs in a developing country. I was a regular commenter (Obot in persuasion) on the old orange site but moved when TOD opened and have been a regular lurker on TOD ever since. I chose to stop commenting on political blogs for a while as my last born daughter got ill and my emotions could no longer stand heated argument. My daughter is now perfectly well and has graduated from Mount Holyoke College with honours so am somewhat repaired emotion-wise. Oh in case it matters I am in my late 50s and wish time could just stop there!

Otherwise I have spent the last two years busy writing a rendition of the ancient African game and managed to get it published on iTunes which is quite a feat for an indie residing plump in the middle of Africa. I wanted to share it with you on this, my favourite blog and hope it can be a pleasant distraction from serious and weighty matters that we grapple with as November looms ever larger. Please check out the game at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/emoraba/id807204024?mt=8 and download it and tell friends and family about it. You will be directly assisting durable African development if you buy the app for your iPad or iPhone at a couple dollars in exchange for hours of enjoyment and fun as you will be helping give employment to hardworking developers in Africa. If you do get to download the game please consider giving it an honest rating on iTunes so I know what you think about it. I can take a punch so be critical if you like. (Oh for Kindle or Android people the link is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J1JX7WE/ref=mas_pm_emoraba )

I have a few promo codes for iTunes to give away. To win one please answer the following question: In which country did FLOTUS buy a large sausage and chips for lunch and then get attacked by the MSM for eating the sausage with her kids? Answers on a postcard please! Ha ha! OK just email me for the promo code okay? ezekiel@pelasoftware.net First 9 correct answers get it.

    Jobs growth surges
U.S. employment growth jumped in June and the unemployment rate declined to near a six-year low of 6.1 percent. Live Coverage |
