Um, morning Mister. It coulda been The Rooney Diary, so count yer blessings.
you meant romney, right?
Can’t remember who I did this to, to freak them out one day:
must be vc.
Ok, that is just terrifying. Still.
Good morning everyone at TOD.
I have a happy prediction and a semi-complicated explanation of my opinion. The prediction is a huge Democratic victory in November.
Nothing new there.
Here is the new part:
I think the lawsuit started by McDaniels in Mississippi is the excuse the GOP/MSM is fabricating for why the election, the whole election in 2014, goes to the Dems.
Here is my thinking: GOP has been proclaiming a win in 2014 all along. Withou facts or evidence, naturally.
They are starting to see how unlikely that is.
But the GOP/MSM must never let the Dems win or appear to win even if they actually win—(See Christie and McCauliffe in 2013. Christie WON Hip Hip Hooray!!!! and McC was barely mentioned. Nor were the other victors—all Dems —in 2013)
So the play is that Thad Cochran ruined what was an all but certain landslide for Repubs in 2014. In their view, Dems aren’t going to really win fair and square. Thad Cochran handed it to them. Oh, if we only had better Conservative Repubs, they’ll say. Watch for as much ink as they can get with McDaniels fake kerfuffle.
Democratic landslide. Senate + 5 Governorship + take back the House—-or come very very close.
Anybody buy this or am I in wishful thnking territory?
Vicki, I’m a firm believer in the idea that wishing can make it so because it gives us a positive to shoot for. Democrats have to believe they can win and then they will. You’re right that if there are (and I believe there will be) significant Democratic wins this November, the media arm of the GOP will do everything in their power to underplay it and suggest it was really a Republican win that was stolen by unfair practices. Frankly, I can’t wait to hear them wail. I think a lot of Democrats are waking up to the atrocities brought on by Republicans in DC, in our state houses and by the Republican wing of the Supreme Court. The Holly Lobby decision may just be enough of an impetus to bump up turnout and that’s all it would take to start winning unexpected victories. We must listen to the president because he’s the most politically astute person in this country–he’s putting the blame where it belongs and so is his staff and now some columnists are picking that up. If we all start saying it loudly, clearly and repeatedly, people will start getting it. And that’s how our wishes do, in the end, come true.
Vicki I’m thinking the exact same thing. President Obama has handed the Democratic Party the blueprint on how to take back the house, the only way the Dems don’t take back the house is if they run away from President Obama, in which case they deserve everything they get. I don’t think there has ever been a Democratic President that has singlehandedly beat back everything that has been thrown at him from an opposing party. The campaign ads literally write themselves; “so sue me for trying to make people’s lives better,” “who needs roads and bridges?”
I’ve said this all year, and will continue to do (until I’m told to STFU, LOL).
MSM/Kochs are terrified of Dems controlling all branches of the Federal Govt except for SCOTUS (which is likely to change before 2016).
Expect to hear even more outrageous lies “reported” by MSM/Kochs between now and Nov.
After #LandslideDems2014, news outlets may evaluate their political staff and act to cut their dead wood — hope that upChuck Todd is the first to go.
The first to go will be those blacks that are no longer useful in calling out President Obama on some bogus bullshit. Or those blacks that thought they were being smart by calling out President Obama on same shit that they happily looked the other way with past Presidents. People like Al Sharpton will always have a seat at the table because even his enemies know he speaks from the heart on social issues.
In The NY Times obit today on Richard Mellon Scaife there is a paragraph about his endorsement for Hillary in 2008. “The past is never the past” or something similar said jay Gatsby.
Richard Mellon Scaife funded some of the most despicable members of the PA state house and has a consistently ugly force in this state’s politics. I’m sure his left his millions to fund more nefarious anti-people activities. I’m sorry to have anyone die, but he will not be missed.
He won’t be missed and the spectacle of Hillary bowing down to his money will live on.
Attending my “900th” 4th parade with my little gr-son, who was at his first parade, made it fun. He loved every speck of it, and not all was scintillating, trust me. But he joyfully danced and marched with every band, thought it was the most miraculous thing that candy and water bottles and balls were being tossed off of floats and scrambled after those items as if he was gaining access to them for the first time in his life. His favorite part tho may have been when the fire truck and the garbage truck had a little honking contest—-he was laughing his head off, just couldn’t believe this was actually happening and he got to witness it. Experienced it all through his eyes—–with this simple childhood delight. Sometimes we make things too complicated.
Oh, dotster, if only we could keep some of that wonder as we age. Seeing the world through the eyes of a little one is so refreshing and renewing. Yesterday I saw our neighbor’s little boy express absolute delight at the garbage truck. He was urging his mom to run with him to keep up so he could see the truck collect the garbage. He kept saying, “Look, Mommy, look. It’s going to stop again.” I never dreamed a garbage truck could bring so much joy.
Ooooh Dotster, so so sweet! I bet Mr Dotster loved the honking contest just as much :-)
Sounds just so much fun – the world is their oyster and what fun it is to be part of their discovery.
Too, too cute, Dotster.
The biggest downside of living on the west coast is that we have few events that tie communities together (just too dang many people) — correct me if I’m wrong, fellow Cali-TODers.
You just know that the firefighters and sanitation workers were having a blast.
Love to hear actual stories about Americana, and it’s even better from a four-year-olds’ perspective!
Reliving your childhood through the eyes of your children then your grandchildren is a precious gift.

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July! I remember when my ex-boyfriend had to work on the 4th at the hospital; he was an eye surgeon and it was the busiest day/night every year in the ER with so many sad cases of firecrackers and other fireworks exploding unexpectedly resulting in eye injuries.
So it was a tough day for Colombia yesterday even though they should be proud they made it to the World Cup and played pretty damn great. I don’t know as much about soccer as I do basesball (even though my boyfriend is a soccer player from Colombia and plays on 3 different city soccer leagues here lol) but it seems it wasn’t the best officiated game. It seems like Rodriguez wasn’t getting some calls that may have made a difference. Aside from that I have been reminded during this World Cup that American sports could learn a thing or two about real sportsmanship. It’s always bothered me that after professional baseball and football games here in the US there is no handshake – other than by the coaches and perhaps a couple of players who happen to be near each other on the field after the game. I don’t really get the point of players shaking hands with their teammates after the game, lol what’s that for? True sportsmanship is to end the matchup by shaking hands with your opposition! In regular games (non World Cup) do soccer players shake hands before and after the game with the opposition?
VINE: A great show of sportsmanship last night as David Luiz tells the crowd to applaud James Rodríguez. #BRA #COL vine.co/v/MUjJvVixHAn— 2014 World Cup (@2014WC_Brazil) July 05, 2014

LMAO! oh my god, that’s great lol.
The referee was terrible Forus, his biggest mistake was not handing out yellow cards early on, that only encouraged the awful tackles. Colombia got away with some rough stuff too, but he was especially ‘generous’ to Brazil, surprise, surprise. Worst Brazilian side I have ever seen, horrible football – if they win this World Cup, I’ll cry!
Did you see Neymar is out of the World Cup? Got a knee in the back and broke a vertebra, yikes.
Ok, that’s what I kind of thought too and wanted something other than an understandably biased opinion from my boyfriend. :) I did see Neymar is out and one can assume that with a few more yellow cards maybe that hard knee wouldn’t have happened; although it looked like it was part of the jump to head the ball. Do the Manchester and Chelsea players shake hands before and after?
Even James Rodriguez's grasshopper is bigger than the Frenchman! #foxfootball foxsports.com.au/video?v=james-… http://t.co/kJoKJvyM1a— FOX SPORTS Football (@FOXFOOTBALL) July 05, 2014
Did you all see what landed on Rodriguez during the Colombia v Brazil game? Don’t know how I slept last night :-(
Feel weak. *Very* large locust landed on James Rodriguez's arm during today's World Cup quarter-final. Oh gawd. http://t.co/wmfZCs7k5A— TheObamaDiary.com (@TheObamaDiary) July 04, 2014
On Twitter some are saying that monster grasshopper was on him when he took the penalty shot but I’m not seeing any clear pictures of that. All I remember is he had beads of sweat on his face at that time and I was hoping he would wipe them off first so he could see.
Awesome T-Shirts! http://t.co/lnGY4g0PUd— Awesome Inventions (@lNVENTlONS) July 02, 2014
I am so giggling at this one amk
Oh, one of these days, I will end up wearing that t-shirt. Wifey unit’s will prolly say, “No, I am NOT Rita”.
NO THANKS…I DON’T HAVE ANOTHER HALF…WE JUST LIVE IN THE SAME HOUSE!
The popular refrain is that “President Obama could have done so much more with a willing house and senate.” I’m starting to believe that President Obama got exactly what he wanted done; a health care law, DOMA and DADT. And later on this summer when he throws down an Executive Order on immigration he will have effectively changed the entire political landscape for generations to come.
I don’t see another President, Democratic or Republican trying to change any of his Executive Orders unless they want to be ran out of office. If you sit back and really think about the things that President Obama has achieved, you will come to the conclusion that most if not all of the President in the last fifty years have been thinking small and going small. What other President would have had the moral strength to get a health care law passed and made it legal for our gay brothers and sisters to marry?
Excellent point, Don!
I agree with you, Don. If you look at PBO’s legislative record clear back to when he was involved in IL politics you will see he always got lots done. The change is that even the opposition party worked with him then. He really did foster compromise positions respecting all sides and including all ideas. The GOP started obstructing him the night of the first Inauguration. It takes two to Tango and the Republicans do not want to dance nor govern our Country. They only want to win. PBO does not want to play around putting band-aids on problems as has been the political way as long as I can remember. That way there are not as many voters upset with big changes. Hillary is an example of this usual political tactic. PBO is really about fixing problems that can help the American people, not about cowtowing to the corporations to keep his power.
When a male penguin falls in love with a female penguin, he searches the entire beach to find the perfect Pebble to present to her.— Weird Hacks & Facts (@TheWeirdWorld) July 05, 2014
If only someone would have told him about Kay’s Jewelers or even Jared’s. Sad.
One of my favorite David Attenborough series for the BBC was on “The Life of Birds.”
He said that birds who pretty much look alike (no fancy plummage for the males) such as doves are monogamous, while the showier males are real playboys.
My guess is that penguins (maybe no emperor penguins with their fancy headgear) mate for life.
Is his lawsuit against he ACA as threatening as some blogs are making it sound? Ruling is expected this weak in D.C. REpublcan judges wil make the determination,
I’m really nervous about this. Can someone explain this suit, and whether it’s as threatening as it sounds?
Hate to ruin a perfectly lovely Saturday with my worries, but it’s coming up soon.
Good Morning Chips and TOD.

Good Morning TOD
I missed all the 4th of July events here in DC yesterday. We took the family to beach for the 4th and it was the grand girls first time at the beach. They Loved It. The weather was perfect. Oh also my family had another new arrival yesterday. My niece gave birth to a baby girl. So now we have our very own Independence Baby in the family :)

They grow so quickly Donna – and look utterly gorgeous – almost 2 years along, I am still amazed at how much love grandbabies create in our world.
Double cute in their red, white and blue!
Donna, your darling little granddaughter are getting even cuter! What fun for your whole family. My nephew turned 19 yesterday, so we have an Independence baby too.
oops – left out the s.
Simply the best!
Wow. Delightful chubby cheeks ;)
Supremely wonderful!!! Thank you for sharing, Donna!!!

Such a good news story. Someone should remind the voters who has been causing the problems as per this comment
“It’s the first year in several where we haven’t had some kind of manufactured fiscal showdown in Washington, which weighs on business confidence and consumer confidence,” Di Natale said.
Sure isn’t the democrats manufacturing the fiscal crises.
Why aren’t the Democrats running with this news?
In the mid 1980s, the UE rate was 7.3% and Reagan was singing Morning In America and the dutiful National News Media were his Disciples Preaching and Spreading those numbers Cheerfully and Willingly.
Messaging 101 is to sell Mediocre News as Glowingly as possible.
These June UE reports are Facts. They Don’t need selling. They just Need the so called Hollywood Liberals to produce one Factually based political ad that would be played Nationwide to educate and then, surrender the TBGOPers to the backbench for Good!
Good Morning, Everyone:)
good morning everyone! Happy Saturday…hubby flew home from NC yesterday….home safe and sound….no hurricane troubles. We had a wicked dust storm ourselves on Thursday night. HOLY MOLY! What a mess they are….my newly landscaped yard was a mess again and tree branches were all over the place…pool was a mess…yard was a mess and I spent all day cleaning it up in the heat yesterday. My body feels like a Mack truck ran over me….I got it done, but that’s why you didn’t hear much from me yesterday :) To beat it all…even with all that mess, we got no rain where I live. It hasn’t rained here for 4 months. Not a drop. Believe me when I tell you that water wars are coming…you can’t sustain the 5th largest populace in America, in desert, with no water…..I will NOT die in this damn stupid state….looking and looking for my net place to be. Make it blue…
You can clearly see by my typos that the Mack truck really DID hit me! You know what I meant there, didn’t you ? :)
I’m so sorry :(
Get some rest and then go dip in the pool. Remember you are always welcomed to the great state of Maryland :)
:) Thanks, dd! I would love to come to Maryland…never been there, but you have the kind of environment that I’m looking for. I just can’t do stupid, spiteful, ugly….too much ignorance here for me to deal with…they keep believing the Koch lies because they’re all ” proud conservatives”…I’m not getting any younger. I need to get the hell outta Dodge pretty soon:) Thanks for the invite:)
Pool’s drty…hubby’s home though and that’s HIS task to do….hopefully it will be back to sparkling by the time I want to go in. :)
So sorry you had such a mess yesterday DF. We had some dust on my side of town too, but we also had a fabulous rain as well. No mess for me to clean. I have a Pomeranian that freaks in storms, but since I got the jacket for her, not too bad.
If we would have gotten some good rain, that would have been a great trade off for me…we just got the dust and the mess. Not happy. Sorry that your dog is afraid of storms….good she has a jacket that makes her feel safe:)
MY CATS WERE ALL OVER THE PLACE AND THESE PEOPLE DIDN’T QUIT UNTIL 2A.M………………IT’S SO LOVELY HERE IN THE HILLS AND HOLLARS WHERE YOU CAN STEP ON TOBACCO SPIT AND LISTEN TO BALD MEN IMPERSONATE SYLVETER STALONE…JUST A NIGHTMARE COME TRUE!
I didn’t hear any hooping and hollering last night as has been in the past on the street beside me, but the fireworks continued until 2am. My pets were not happy.
Good morning Chipstix, Dannistix, TOD family.
I thought if you when I saw the dust storm. I remember those rolling dust storms that look like it swallows all of Phoenix. Glad Mr Df us home safe and sound.
I know how you feel about worry of enough water and when you move it’s to a blue state. One thing I learned there are no safe blue states. When people vote our of fear we get
GOP governors. CA is a blue state but voted in several repugs. I learned you have to have good DEM candidates and participate in keeping states blue or turning them blue.
Know what you mean about the lack of water.
It’s hard for people inundated with water (i.e., Japa “I hate this winter” 21, etc. — don’t mean Japa himself, cause he’s in the risk management business, and he can see beyond his nose, but other more self-absorbed who suffered through this past winter) to even comprehend what it’s like to go months (or even years) without rain.
This is an AP story from Memorial Day that made front page news in the print version of my local newspaper (may be behind a paywall — I have a subscription)
From @AP May 27:
Nearly 4K corps, etc. hold sr. water rights in CA, exempting them from govt-mandated cuts in water.
vcstar.com/news/2014/may/…— Arapaho415 (@arapaho415) July 05, 2014
From the article:
SAN FRANCISCO (AP)
“Nearly 4,000 corporations, farms and others hold senior water rights in California, exempting them from government-mandated cuts in water use during the third year of drought. Here is a look at five of them, along with how they obtained the right to draw water from waterways and how they use it…”
This is what you get when you vote for the “Corporations are people too” party.
Good thing I posted this at the end of the thread.
@AP annoyingly retires articles after a couple of weeks, so this is a bad URL.
I’m all thumbs when it comes to internet archival research, but I’ll see if I can retrieve this important information.
Time for sleep down under – have a great day everyone
Rick Warren Joins Letter Asking Obama For Strong Religious Exemption In LGBT Executive Order
“[W]e are asking that an extension of protection for one group not come at the expense of faith communities,” a group of religiously affiliated leaders writes.
WASHINGTON — The pastor who caused an uproar from LGBT advocates when President Obama asked him to speak at his inauguration is now asking the president to exempt those with religious beliefs from an executive order banning federal contractors from discriminating against LGBT people.
Rick Warren has joined forces with the head of Catholic Charities and others in asking President Obama to “include a religious exemption in your planned executive order addressing federal contractors and LGBT employment policies.” The Atlantic first reported on the letter earlier Wednesday.
LGBT advocates have pressed for a limited religious exemption or no religious exemption in the order, but others, like Sen. Orrin Hatch, have said an exemption similar to that included in the version of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act passed by the Senate last fall is needed.
I don’t think the LGBT community has anything to worry about, if they have any concerns they should call up Bill and Hillary Clinton to help them with any problems that might arise. According to GLAAD, the Clintons’ have come to the resuce of the LGBT community many times in the past, becasue why else would they received so much praise from the LGBT community.
Great toon! http://bobcesca.thedailybanter.com/files/2014/07/Heresy.jpg
