GM Miss Chips – I have missed TOD today – had an unusually busy – but mainly enjoyable (excluding the doc visit) day out. Didn’t get home until 5pm & everyone at TOD had gone to bed.

Ah, I hope all went well with the doctor 99ts?

            • July 9, 2014 at 8:00 am

Actually, that sounds very nosy, like I’m looking for a detailed medical report :-) Which I am – pass it over, right now.

              July 9, 2014 at 8:26 am

Not my best report – but I was expecting same – I have a really nice Doc – she has a way of telling me get myself together – without sounding mean. I have to go back in 2 weeks for a check on the new meds – sigh. I was much healthier when I was a nicotine addict. Anyhow nothing life threatening – I shall attempt to follow her rules and remember to take the pills.

She is big on grandbabes my Doc – being a grandmother herself – I was early & she saw me almost instantly! When I said “thanks for that” she said a mother of twins was before me – but was late – noting that one can never guarantee time when you have twins – so it was a win/win to see me early & give my slot to the babes.

So there it is – my medical history :) Tomorrow I am out with Mr 99 & his docs – the joys of growing old – but in the pm – grandbabe & her mother are visiting – life is good.

Well, I like the sound of your Doc very much, so make sure you follow her rules!

The Repubs may commit mass suicide if PBO doesn’t “go to the border”. This may be the dumbest thing yet. What in the world do they think that will accomplish? Have PBO stand there and say, “Yep, there’s the border, alright, and here I am standing by it.” Do they want him to personally block a couple of little kids, arms outstretched? Utter stupidity. And they’re setting records saying “Obama’s Katrina” multiple times an hour. Pitiful beyond belief.

Elections in Indonesia are interesting – do hope Widodo wins. I am always a little wary when the opposition is an ex general with a very political background.

One thing that should be of interest to the US where the voting population numbers would be similar

“Wednesday’s elections were a massive undertaking, with 185 million voters lodging their votes across 6,000 inhabited islands.
A national public holiday was declared to allow people to vote in 470,000 polling booths across the nation.”

Nothing like encouraging people to vote via declaring a public holiday.

    GM TODville,

Congrats, COS, on being the earliest of the early birds.

Thanks for the coverage of the President’s trip to Denver.

You can feel the sigh of relief that PBO exhales when he’s somewhere in America outside of the DC swamp.

Lovely pictures JER – glorious setting – I had to look it up to get some details – quite a history

“While taking a stroll upon the rolling hills or having a picnic under the shade of one of the many trees in the beautiful 80 acre Cheesman Park, many visitors don’t realize that they very well may be walking or sitting right upon the grave of one of the many who were buried here in the 19th century. Surrounded by Capitol Hill mansions in the heart of downtown Denver, Colorado Cheesman Park is not only frequented by visitors wanting to explore its botanical gardens or enjoy its 150 mile panoramic view from the pavilion, but is also said to be home to a number of restless spirits.”

Good morning TOD ohana. I love the “Bear is loose” pool shots and others from the last thread; what a treat to wake up to!
Observations: I need to go slap some b’s (1) the pushy blonde who had the nerve to put her damn card in PBO’s pocket and (2) the indiscreet one who took a photo of PBO’s rear when he was leaning over to play pool. It is too early to do all of the cussing that I want to about this, but it was wrong on so many levels. The next slap is for the horse’s ass in the horse head; what was that about? The blonde floozy should have given him the chance to decide if he would receive her card then he could have, as he usually does, passed it on to one of his aides. The leering chick with the camera, could have at least done it on the sly if she just could not have helped herself, and the horse head guy should have had to be unmasked to be in PBO’s presence. He looks like someone who wanted to stay hidden from all of the cameras that are placed all over major cities. While I do know that the SS agents were all over the place, I feel that the ball was dropped with this one. Honest, blameless people have no reason to hide their faces. Finally, these b’s need to remember that no matter how affable and engaging he is, this is The President and more importantly, Michelle’s husband and these boundaries must be respected.

    • July 9, 2014 at 8:42 am

CEB, you’re right, the level of respect shown by some people can be surprising.

But remember, this is Denver, one of those cities in the West where most people are from some place else. Their parents aren’t around to remind them about manners.

The horsehead guy wanted attention (which he got) and that woman with the business card should be shamed for her lack of respect for the President of the United States, not some potential client.

  8. July 9, 2014 at 8:35 am

Awesome photo! Happy to hear “the bear” was able to have some fun. I can’t imagine the kind of stress he has to endure on a daily basis. I also can’t imagine what it is like to have to try to work with the crazy people in Washington (hello Boehner and caucus). Through it all he seems to keep his faith in all of us and conduct himself with grace and humor and intelligence.

If they provided funding for everything they want the President to do – the GOP would lose the ability to complain about what the President should do. Pffffft

    • July 9, 2014 at 9:12 am

On immigration, complaining is easy; governing is hard

      By Steve Benen

      ——————————-

All of which leads to a straightforward question: do Republicans want a solution to the crisis or do they want to complain about the crisis. They can’t have both.

Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-Tex.), for example, is demanding a presidential photo-op at the border.
      .
      .
It’s fascinating. The White House is offering a policy solution, but no photo-op. Republicans want a photo-op, but no policy solution. It would appear we have another count in the indictment against the GOP as a post-policy party.

    White House

    Strong-Arms Photo Agency

    To Squash Malia Photos

7/8/2014 4:10 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Malia Obama went to a famous L.A. restaurant Monday night — a restaurant regularly frequented by celebs and paparazzi — and when the White House found out a photog took her pic, they went into DEFCON 1 to KILL the photos.

The 16-year-old went to Gjelina in Venice, CA with some friends. The photog got the pic as Malia walked out and then sent it to the AKM-GSI agency to sell. The agency posted the pic on its website for media outlets to purchase, but several hours later The First Lady’s Office called AKM-GSI and asked them to please take the pics off the website and delete them from their files.

We’re told Michelle Obama’s people told the agency they had promises from various media outlets not to photograph the 2 girls when they were not in the presence of their father.

AKM-GSI then agreed, sending an email to the media with the subject, “URGENT SET KILL NOTICE.”

The text reads, “Please delete the set of Malia Obama from your archive. The set was sent around earlier today. We cannot distribute this set.”

Making a request and stating a prior agreement with media outlets is hardly DEFCON 1. Jeez.

      July 9, 2014 at 9:02 am

Leave it to TMZ to refer to a polite request, backed up by previous promises, as strong arming. Malia is a minor child, who is not in show business, going about her life as millions of U S teens do every day. She has a summer job, she hangs out with her friends, and she has parents who do not tell about the personal details of her life. Furthermore, she does not want attention. These papparazzi have much more fodder for their cameras; they should leave these children alone.

Michigan man kills 2-year-old girl by shooting her execution-style to torture her dad: police

Raymone Bernard Jackson, 24, walked up to the little girl as she sat on her porch with her dad and then opened fire, police said. Then he shot the child’s dad and a 12-year-old family friend. ‘Anybody that feels that they can execute a child in the state of Michigan, we’re going to go after them,’ state police said.

Dad Kenneth French, 34, and Chelsea Lancaster, 12, remain hospitalized and are expected to recover.

Why NEA Wants Arne Duncan to Resign
    By Ernie Smith / Jul 8, 2014

Still smarting over the education secretary’s comments last month
supporting a court decision that struck down tenure protections for
California teachers, the National Education Association wants Arne
Duncan to step down. But that’s not the only issue involved.

With a vote at its annual meeting in Denver on the Fourth of July, the National Education Association made a bold statement against the
    country’s top education official.

Although departing NEA President Dennis Van Roekel said the vote
wasn’t a personal attack on Education Secretary Arne Duncan, delegates at the meeting approved a measure calling for Duncan’s resignation, citing the U.S. Department of Education’s “failed education agenda focused on more high-stakes testing, grading, and pitting public school students against each other based on test scores, and for continuing to promote policies and decisions that undermine public schools and colleges, the teaching education professionals, and education unions.”

Am loving seeing PBO out among the people. Seems to me I sense a little bit of “so sue me” attitude in him all the time now…..very healthy. He’s going to do what he wants to within the SS parameters, but he’s tired of trying so hard to please the never pleased. The MSM and the rethugs need to get over themselves and accept that people WANT to be with this man, touch him, be near him…..there is something magnetic about him that is irresistible. I have not seen this level of obsession since JFK. These pictures remind me of crowds desperately trying to get close to him. If you remember, his son John, aroused the same kind of obsession as an adult. He couldn’t leave his apartment without the photogs there, trailing him every step.

Clinton was close in his magnetic appeal, but not to the level of PBO. I think the Republicans hate PBO and everything about him because they have never had a candidate or president with this kind of overwhelming magnetism. Remember GWB? He had to reach out and grab people’s hands, they didn’t desperately reach out to him. He couldn’t have a beer and play pool with anyone: he didn’t know how to play pool, and his severe alcohol problem prevented him from drinking with anyone.

Anyone with the level of adoration PBO has will just automatically generate an equal degree of opposition and dislike. I think the horse head guy just figured out a way to get in a picture with the president…..the outlandish always attracts attention.

      Great comment, Carolyn.

I found the horse head guy harmless and funny. He was probably kidding around with his friends and heard the president was in the area and decided to put on the horse head to amuse President Obama.

Made for interesting pictures, that’s for sure.

    • July 9, 2014 at 9:56 am

      Agree with you 100%, Carolyn.

Saw an article a few years ago in Psychology Today about charisma (before PBO was President, I think), that indefinable quality that you know when you see it.

Can’t remember the people they cited, but Audrey Hepburn was one. And I think Gregory Peck. Both of these gracious people drew attention by their courtesy and elegance.

PBO is unusual in that he resonates that kind of charisma in addition to the “hey, it’s good to see you” (or in WJC’s case, “I feel your pain”) kind of charisma.

In non-PBO news, did you see this?
