Morning. Double dutch jump rope is something I’ve always wanted to do. Unfortunately, I would fall flat on my face, hopelessly entangled in rope. Oh well, glad we have a FLOTUS who’s so agile.

    • July 15, 2014 at 8:08 am

Do you remember that thread from years ago — BNW (UTAL as she was known then) was not yet co-BT — of FLOTUS on stage flawlessly jumping Double Dutch with some school-age kids?

I was new to this blog then, and sent a tweet to BobFR that said I’ve never seen anyone look so gracious while effortlessly jumping rope. It’s true that it’s a mystery how FLOTUS appears younger every day, but it’s also mystery to me how it’s possible to elegantly jump rope, LOL.

Just learned that our little county Democratic Party (little because it’s a small county and we’re a minority party) got a surge in registrations in June–65 “new” Dems in one month is a record for us. The surge is probably because of a naturalization ceremony, but we also got 49 people who switched parties from R to D. Don’t know what all of this means, except I’m glad that new citizens are signing up as Democrats and I’m hoping the party change means that people are getting fed up with the right wing hate. The challenge is to get all the newly registered to come out to vote. In local races, even these small numbers make a difference.

Tuesday Greetings, JackieG! I suspect a lot of people are going to be surprised by the November response of voters. I can’t believe that voters aren’t realizing that their future is on the line with the all that the Repub crazies have/ haven’t done!

      • July 15, 2014 at 8:14 am

        Yes, VC.

There are 24% of the population who are hopeless, they would vote for that dog that amk posted up thread instead of any Dem (and who also believe that the sun revolves around the earth), but most females of voting age cannot be happy about SCOTUS giving corporations the upper hand over people (HobbyLobby) and cannot possibly believe that corporations are people too.

He’s simply allowing for that possibility that they may not make the deadline, which is Sunday July 20. That doesn’t mean that they won’t make it. However, AP is quick to report anything that could possibly be spun as “bad news” for this administration. If they DO make the deadline, AP will be the last to report – mark my word.

Why Did Black Voters Flee The Republican Party In The 1960s?
    by KAREN GRIGSBY BATES
    July 14, 2014 5:05 AM ET

If you’d walked into a gathering of older black folks 100 years ago, you’d have found that most of them would have been Republican.

    Wait… what?

Yep. Republican. Party of Lincoln. Party of the Emancipation. Party that pushed not only black votes but black politicians during that post-bellum period known as Reconstruction.

Today, it’s almost the exact opposite. That migration of black voters away from the GOP reached its last phase 50 years ago this week.

Walking through the Farmer’s Market at 18th Street and La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles, a mixture of Angelenos strolled the asphalt parking lot, surveying rows of leafy produce and ripe stone fruit. Virtually all the people I approached who were registered voters were registered to one party.

“I’m affiliated with the Democratic party, of course!” laughs Arthur Little, a thin man in shorts and electric turquoise-framed sun glasses.

    “Why ‘of course’?” I asked.

“Because I think of it as the party that is at least officially interested in putting people’s rights before corporate rights,” Little shakes his head. “I don’t even know why a black person even would be a Republican,” he muses, as he walks off with his teenaged son.

    http://www.npr.org/blogs/codeswitch/2014/07/14/331298996/why-did-black-voters-flee-the-republican-party-in-the-1960s

I have met a lot of black republicans and they live in the south. This one guy said the Democratic party has done nothing for him so I asked what has the GOP done for him….lowered taxes. Not HIS taxes mind you. He confessed to voting for PBO only because he’s black and it was a historical time. I don’t talk to him about politics because he argues based on past southern Dems were against the civils rights act. I told them yesterday’s Dixiecrats are today’s Republicans.

The first black woman to win an Olympic gold medal, Alice Coachman Davis, has died in the US at the age of 90.

A US track and field legend, she set a new Olympic record, winning gold in the high jump at the 1948 London Games.

She died in hospital near her home in Albany, Georgia, on Monday, three months after suffering a stroke.

Ms Coachman’s athletic achievements pre-dated the civil rights era, which meant she was barred from public sports facilities because of her colour.

She won her first national title at 16 and went on to win 25 track and field championships before retiring, aged 25, after winning the Olympic gold medal.

She was inducted to the USA Track and Field Hall of fame in 1975 and the US Olympic Hall of Fame in 2004.

So the media has now gone from “GOP wave!” to a grudgingly reported “Dems hanging on to slight lead.” With their conservative polling and inclination to minimize negative reporting for GOP, I’m of the belief that this Dem lead is not so “slight” as Chuckles is claiming. As I’ve been saying all along, 2014 is not a repeat of 2010. And I NEVER believed the polls or Little Nate’s declaration of GOP advantage earlier this year.

    • 89 dotster3
      July 15, 2014 at 8:53 am

Every poll I see, such as they are, indicates women prefer the Dem by quite hefty margins. How ’bout an executive order that says all women HAVE to vote, or else! :) Get out the Lady Vote! Men are dumb.

      • July 15, 2014 at 8:56 am

So, does Mr. Dotster ever see your posts? After all, my favorite President and VP of all time, now residing in the WH, are ..ah..hem…men.

    • 94 Nena20409
      July 15, 2014 at 1:00 pm

Well, of course. If a lead of 22% on PA is toss-up I am surprised that Chuck and NBC called 6 and 7 percentage leads in CO and Michigan slight lead.

Not that, thus far, No REAL pollster has AR, AK, IA or NC with a Dem polling behind. In GA, Dem still leads by 1.8% and in KY, Grimes leads by 2-3%.

SD is my watch senatorial race. I say watch out for that race. MT and WVa are not impossible if Dems make their cases respectively.

  20. July 15, 2014 at 8:52 am

@nycjim liked the article about President Obama at dinner parties.

Despite a dig here or there, I think the article portrayed our President as one who would be hosting salons of the 18h century, if he weren’t busy with other “stuff,” LOL.

  21. 97 hopefruit2
    July 15, 2014 at 8:59 am

So the media couldn’t create rifts in the Dem coalition, nor diminish President Obama’s clout with their constant HRC pimping – they’ve now turned to Warren. That’s not gonna work either. First of all, Warren and Obama are closely aligned with each other, and if people are “embracing” Warren, they sure as hell are embracing Obama – regardless of what WaPo or other media wants you to think.

    • 98 jackiegrumbacher
      July 15, 2014 at 9:32 am

Hf, it doesn’t make sense on any level. Barack Obama is he current president of the US and IS NOT ANY ANY BALLOT in the US. Warren, who, as you say, is closely aligned with and supportive of the president, MAY BE ON A FUTURE ballot, so there’s no competition involved. I think the president could care less who anybody ‘embraces,’ as long as it leads to legislation that supports his agenda.

      Hmm?

In the 2005-2006, then Senator Obama was crisscrossing the states stumping for Dems. So why can’t Sen Warren?

China has a larger high-speed rail network than the entire European Union or the United States, according to a new World Bank report.

The train network is set to double by 2020 and is a big part of China’s economic strategy – enabling companies to trade directly with Central Asia and Europe.

    Good morning TOD
    Big News day!!!!

On the previous thread Bill posted the NYTimes article about the deal in Afghanistan. The front page DID NOT mention either SOS John Kerry or PBO. The article on page 10 did give POTUS and the SOS credit and the Times editorial grudgingly called it a “Rare foreign policy success.” Really!!! Rare????

The story about the Iran Deal barely mentioned the SOS or PBO and that article appeared on page 10 as well. Peace and relations with Iran is not important for America to learn about or respect as an accomplishment appears to be the view the Propaganda Forces have decided is best for them. Them being the GOP/MSM.

However, a story about the President’s dinners came with giant headlines pictures and details—-Apparently PBO stays late drinking Drappier champagne!!!!! Very important!! President so tired of DC out gallivanting about and drinking!!!

A deal with Iran is a BFD if there ever was one.
Kerry’s work in Afghanistan is sensational and if this Iran deal is solidified makes John Kerry and his Boss the two most talented and successful President+ SOS team in recent memory.

    BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO

Vicki, they will never change in their efforts to minimize the achievements of this president and his administration. To me, these news outlets represent a passing area when media giants held sway over public opinion. These days that power is fast waning and the media as a news source is more distrusted than depended on. That means it remains for us–who number in the millions–to spread the word every day, even if we’re in a grocery line or hanging out at a coffee shop. We can use all the social media at our disposal with the vast contacts that represents and we can make an enormous difference in public perception. The fact is, we are powerful if we work together.

They tried to sell “lame duck” and that failed.
I get they will never say what I want to hear which is that PBO and his team are foreign policy masters.

Also, too, VW and Tennessee are on their way to a union-friendly arrangement that will bring 2000+ jobs to Chatanooga soon, with more to come.
Sen.Corker(R) and Gov. Hasslam (R) are spouting save-face mumbo jumbo.
