Good for Nancy!!! I’m sick to death of all these predictions about GOP wins in November. This is the ‘believe’ strategy that Martin O’Malley talked about. If you act defeated, you get nothing. If you reach high, your chances of winning soar.

I always wonder about these swarms of people who are at the ready 24/7 to reply with such nasty, vile comments whenever anything Obama is posted, even the most innocuous bit of news. I noticed the other day a string of vile responses to a sweet photo of Bo Obama! That is just pitiful desperation, to be filled with that much hate. Is this their job? What a horrible, dismal way to live.

Interesting you should mention that, dotster. because I made the seriously bad mistake of going to HuffnPuff and clicking on the comments. OMG, what undiluted hatred as well as a complete inability to acknowledge one single positive achievement from our president. Their minds are closed shut and that is that. Tragically, the seeds of racism were built into the founding of this country and woven into the Constitution and it’s acted like a festering disease ever since. The two-time election of Barack Obama and the changing demographics seem to have revealed the fault line at the heart of it all and we will either break apart or be forced to heal it. Unless enough people are finally repulsed by the hatred and rise up to change it, the healing may not happen for generations, if ever. That one political party consciously and willingly chose to foment racism as a political strategy should condemn that party forever. I will work with every fiber of my being to make sure people understand that.

Officials in California have approved fines of up to $500 (£292) a day for residents who waste water, as the state faces its worst drought in nearly four decades.

The measures have been introduced to stop water being wasted on lawns, landscaping and car washing.

Water consumption rose by 1% in the year up to May, despite an appeal for people to make a 20% reduction.

About 75% of water used in California is for agricultural purposes.

    what climate change?

    • 37 99ts
      July 16, 2014 at 9:13 am

When we had our big drought 2002-2010 the change in water usage was amazing – we personally went from 1200 litres/day down to about 260. The aim was 140 litres/person/day. We have never started using the excess again & although all restrictions were removed we now use around 300. The big use was the garden – plants that survived the drought without water are now 99% of our garden.

One of the big water users is in cases where there are leaks and no-one realises same. Because the local councils were querying all big users, most of these problems were found – pipes were fixed, infrastructure was improved.

Businesses were also hit with restrictions – despite they whinged – they still had to comply. Some did not survive, others used bores and paid for their own water supplies. Agriculture has to work out how to be less water intensive – it can be done – but until there are restrictions/enforcement it probably won’t be done.

In the city where I have a second home, the daily limit is 200 liters regardless of the family size. Now that the kids are packed off to the hostels, we can a luxurious 5 min shower instead of the usual 3 min bird bath.

Nothing says drought like not being able to have a hot shower!

We were never queried because there were only 2 of us – council assumed average 4 per household – so if you had the 6 kids you would get a “please explain”.

Had radio on Joe Madison coming home from Y. He shared a comment that Gov. O’Malley made: Told PO to NOT send any of these kids to his state…….that they will not be accepted. Joe followed it up with comments like “Wow, Mr. want to be President”…….”Mr. Progressive.”, etc. Would like to see a link or audio of the Gov. saying that. :(

That was misleading reporting—-see comment below—–it was about setting up a suitable location, always planned to accept kids.

Martin O’Malley: Don’t send border children to Maryland facility

      ————————————-

But before they hung up, O’Malley told Muñoz not to send any of the children to the facility in Westminster, Md., that the White House was looking at. It’s a conservative part of the state, he warned. The children were at risk of getting harassed, or worse, he said.
      .
      .
White House aides confirmed the Friday conversation but declined further comment. But O’Malley aides say he’s been trying to find an alternative to the Western Maryland location, and there’s already one possibility at the preliminary stages of the process.

“We are working as quickly as possible to determine if that facility can be licensed, if the federal government wants to use that site,” said a senior O’Malley administration official.

This Road Work Made Possible by Underfunding Pensions
    JULY 12, 2014

The Federal Highway Trust Fund is expected to run out of money in August. So, naturally, Congress is debating a temporary fix that involves letting corporations underfund their pension systems.

Of course, we could replenish the fund by raising the federal gasoline tax, which is its primary source of financing. That’s what Senator Bob Corker, Republican of Tennessee, and Senator Christopher S. Murphy, Democrat of Connecticut, want to do. But increasing gas taxes is unpopular, so Congress hasn’t done so since 1993, which means that the tax on gas has actually fallen 39 percent over the last 21 years after you adjust for inflation. Instead, Congress has used a series of gimmicks and shifts to keep the fund solvent as highway construction costs have risen.

The latest proposal, which passed the Republican-controlled House Ways and Means Committee on Thursday, works like this: If you change corporate pension funding rules to let companies set aside less money today to pay for future benefits, they will report higher taxable profits. And if they have higher taxable profits, they will pay more in taxes over the 10-year budget window that Congress uses to write laws. Those added taxes can be diverted to the Federal Highway Trust Fund.

Linda, word of advice. Never look at your driver’s license photo. It will depress your day and make you want to tear your hair out. i never even take advantage of the offers to have it retaken because I refuse to look. If any policeman wants to see it, they are welcome to the fright.

I used to think it was a shame that people who attend the president’s events or get to meet him are always taking photos, rather than experiencing the moment. But in view of the total blackout of the president’s events, I’ve changed my mind. Every single one of the people taking photos with so much joy and excitement are going to share it with their social media friends and followers, who will then pass it on, resend or retweet until thousands upon thousands, upon millions of people will get the message that the president is reaching out to people, telling them about something important, giving them hope. Every FB entry, every tweet, every photo sent to family members, reinforces the point that this is a people’s president. They’ll never see it on tv or hear about it on the radio or even see it in the newspaper, unless it’s a local visit by the president, but they will know what the president is doing. AND they will begin to realize, even unconsciously at first, that the media is keep them from the truth. So, every time I see a sea of people photographing the president, I’m going to applaud, not shake my head in despair. Let the photos proliferate across a million sites and let the truth shine through.

    http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/arizona/2014/07/16/arizonans-likely-die-guns-car-crashes/12719435/

Arizona is consistently one of the states in which more people die from gunshots than from motor-vehicle accidents.

From 2009 to 2012, gun-related deaths outstripped vehicle-related deaths in Arizona, according to an Arizona Republic analysis of the most recent years for which statistics were available from the state departments of transportation and health services.

Arizona had the third-highest per capita gun deaths, just behind Alaska and Louisiana, according to the council’s analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Ohio had the highest raw number of gun deaths compared with automobile fatalities among 14 states and the District of Columbia.

I thought the NRA said guns made us all safer….they lied.

    http://www.azcentral.com/story/brahm-resnik/2014/07/15/arizona-politician-mistakes-campers-for-migrant-children/12701279/

Republican congressional candidate and state legislator Adam Kwasman had just raced up to Phoenix Tuesday morning from the protest in Oracle over the expected arrival of dozens of migrant children at a shelter.

He had tweeted from the scene, “Bus coming in. This is not compassion. This is the abrogation of the rule of law.” He included a photo of the back of a yellow school bus.

But there was a problem with Kwasman’s story: There was no fear on their faces. Those weren’t the migrant children in the school bus. Those were children from the Marana school district. They were heading to the YMCA’s Triangle Y Camp, not far from the Rite of Passage shelter for the migrants, at the base of Mt. Lemmon.

12 News reporter Will Pitts, who is at the protest scene, says he saw the children laughing and taking pictures of the media.

I had to break it to Kwasman that those weren’t migrant children. Kwasman later deleted the tweet. He did back flips trying to take back the story he told me.

POS. At least the reporter was wise to his disgusting antics

    POLL ALERT:
Some of you may have come across a political poll analyst “@cabpolitical” who projects models on Twitter. I also follow him, but let me just tell you right now that his models tend to be skewed in favor of GOP, and are often WRONG. I witnessed some of that back in 2012 – he often skewed in favor of the GOP candidates when the Dems were clearly leading.

I’m not sure what algorithm he uses, but they are biased in favor of the GOP candidates. So just keep that in mind whenever you see his pronouncements of “GOP leading/leading” or “toss-up” in races that are likely Dem leaning or clearly Dem LEADING.

Just wanted to share an update on that post regarding the spray paint Graffiti on Former Army Building in Westminster “no illeagles” or whatever.

Some poor tea-partier decided to support the hate and then this happened ….

Few comments posted below – cracked me up
“here where I live we don’t have things like NO ILLEAGLES spray painted on buildings, nor does ANYONE I have ever met here think the disgusting, racist, xenophobic, completely uneducated nonsense that some of the people from Carroll County have written in this thread. Pathetic, Faux News, Rush Limbaugh inspired, made up NONSENSE that is deeply bigoted, mis-informed, and Un-American!! ”

“Only in delusional Deliverance County can You get away with all of his made up facts…Hilarious…Carroll County is the shining star if MD!!!! Nevermind it has lower median income, worse schools, and 80% less people than Howard,Arundel,Montgomery, or Baltimore County for that matter…And OF COURSE you have less crime..no one but barefoot, trailer trash like YOU live there or ever go there..You also have less homes with indoor plumbing are you proud of that too?! Please stay up there in the woods where you belong and the rest of us who live in the year 2014 will continue to make Maryland the great state that it is…What an embarrassment you people are! ”

“All of those bitter, toothless, ignorant wastes of space up there are an embarrassment to our state as well as the entire human race. Learn how to spell on a 5th grade level before you go demonizing other people you uneducated, slack jawed Teabagging wing nuts! ”

“This was featured on Good Morning America today…. how embarrassing for Carroll County and Maryland as a whole ”

“It is obvious the doers hate “others” and cannot spell. Rep Andy Harris is good at saying NO. He has said NO to jobs creation, NO to equal pay for equal work, NO to WALL ST reform. So it is no surprise that he would say NO to a bunch of kids in trouble, terrified of being murdered seeking help from the mythic USA which harbours and gives comfort to the oppressed. ANDY Harris is a member of ALEC. An extreme pro- business org that cookie cuts STATE/ FEDERAL legislation, and demands an oath that members will put organizational legislative priorities FIRST. That is a subordination of duty to serve and protect the common interests in favour of special interests as an elected member of congress. If you like: Stand Your Ground, right to work for less and of course government up a woman’s uterus than ANDY HARRIS is your guy. ”

“How could anyone hate eagles?! Much less ill eagles! No, seriously, is anyone surprised the hate-filled – apparently Republican – idiots who did this are also illiterate? “
