Waiting for our wonderful President of the United States to speak. Two computers open. HZ

    Ugh.

Informed my cube mate, the world’s most useless librarian, about the new Russia sanctions. Gave me a pathetic grin and said “I don’t think Obama has what it takes.” Felt like asking him, “What would it take? World War III?” Left it at “Yes he does and he shows it all the time.” And he’s supposedly a liberal. Fucking idiot.

(No, I don’t like him much.)

LL if you were to ask him what should be done…..his answers would be so Utopian and NSA and Public Option would somehow, magically be part of the discussion.

      • July 16, 2014 at 5:42 pm

I mean, he’s the guy that my patrons complain to me about and avoid assiduously. They’ll time when they come to ask questions so that either I or my manager are on the ref desk.

        Don’t get me started.

    • July 16, 2014 at 5:41 pm

I hope you punched him, LL. I’m beginning to think that’s the only way to deal with these people. And to think I used to be a pacifist :-)

It’s been a bad day for clueless liberals: I got into it with a 30-something friend who ‘pays all my taxes for benefits I’ll never get’ and isn’t ‘excited’ about voting.

You didn’t hear my head explode on the West Coast? A 30-something straight girl who doesn’t give a fuck that her taxes (yeah, as a struggling actress she’s barely existing) are paying for her parents NOW. And that the single reason there won’t be any benefits for her is if she doesn’t vote.

And pesky birth control and women’s rights? I fought so these entitled 30-somethings will take it for granted?

As Billy Joel would sing……It’s just a Fantasy.

Could he have defeated GW Bush in 2004? Nope. Kerry, a decorated man didn’t…..for 9/11 and OBL was on out TV 3/4 days before that Nov election.

Hey – You can still watch France in HD for another week and a half. Cheer up. ;) And….and…. and…. we’re still better than Portugal, England, Italy, and GHANA. :D

But yes, idiots are still idiots because stupidity isn’t covered by the ACA.

        still……. CONTADOR IS GONE!!!!

        July 16, 2014 at 5:54 pm

Too late, but thanks Nena. I’m actually giggling right now while being irritated at the same time. The giggles are due to the fact that PBO was talking again one second, and the next the sound died, and the next moment he disappeared from view like he was zapped. Really don’t understand what’s going on with my internet.

Just popped in to see you, vc. A farmer friend protects her blueberries with a frame made of pvc and covered with cheap sheer curtains. It seems to work well. You could try cheesecloth for smaller plants in pots.

        • 60 vcprezofan2
          July 16, 2014 at 6:29 pm

Hmmm! Lynn, pvcpipes + sheer curtains sound very doable, particularly since I live close to both the hardware store and the SallyAnn Thrift store. Thank you!

I am so glad I asked this today as I have to be on the road tomorrow so I can scout out which of the solutions I can rig up in the fastest possible time. Sure would be nice if I could protect my tomatoes, cucumber plants and peppers before the squatters ruin all. I’ve accepted that I won’t be able to save that last cornstalk, as I doubt they’ll finish the corn on the ground and leave the untouched one for me. Ah well! Having invested so much time, $$, and energy, I do want to see what I’ll recover this year, but I suspect that next year, if I’m around, I’ll take a pass and let the critters do their own gardening.

A bit of good news from Chuck Hagel. The 6 Gitmo prisoners bound for Uruguay had their transfers stalled with the Bowe Bergdahl release. Now it is back on front burner and the transfer should be completed within the next month.

    Shockey Dockey……..No surprises here.

It has been so since June 2008 and has gotten worse since Jan 20th, 2009.

    http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/study-in-2012-political-journos-repeated-claims-rather-than-fact-checking-on-twitter_b232201

The Poynter Institute reports on the findings today, which combed through 430 journalists’ tweets during presidential debates, examining whether they merely repeated candidates’ claims or fact-checked them.

They found that 60 percent of the journalist tweets “reflected traditional practices of ‘professional’ objectivity: stenography—simply passing along a claim made by a politician—and ‘he said, she said’ repetition of a politician’s claims and his opponent’s counterclaim. Journalists largely repeated the claims and statement of candidates, rather that check or challenge them. In the end, 15 percent of the tweets reflected the traditional fact-checking approach. These tweets saw journalists “referencing evidence for or against the claim and, in a few cases, rendering an explicit judgment about the validity of the claim. The data showed that checking was done more frequently by those in the data set who identified themselves as commentators rather than reporters. This again suggests that traditional notions of objectivity may be a factor.”

Wouldn’t surprise me if this pic turns up in the National Enquirer – FLOTUS divorcing PBO for the mayor of LA! I say that because it suddenly reminded me of a friend here asking me (I’m the PBO authority, you know  ) about a month or 2 ago if I had heard of any problems in the O’s marriage. Yep, she had seen these pics of FLOTUS frowning at PBO and him grinning in the face of some woman or other, yada yada. Sadly, there really are well-meaning people out there who still think you can get real news from the newspapers, etc!

We know better, Annieb, but there are those who never know what to believe. Those who will feel that if it’s printed and published there must be a bit of truth in it. Not that we need to worry about them, other than getting them to the voting booth.

Yair Lapid, one of the cabinet ministers and leaders of the Israeli Left, or so I thought, shamed himself on BBC today.
The valiant BBC reporter asked at least 4 times if the four kids slaughtered on a gaza beach while they were playing soccer were a responsibility that Israel needed to own up to.
Mr. Lapid insisted over and over that Hamas killed those kids because Hamas uses civilian shields.

I give up totally on justice in Israel and will not comment further on it on this blog or anyplace else.

This is the Ia. Dem senate candidate, Bruce Braley, who is running against the hog castrator, Joni Ernst, who has expressed interest in impeaching Obama and is rt. wing terrible. Braley seems to be a very sane and common sense candidate, with Dem ideals, needs and deserves our support—–polls have the race tied currently. Need to win this one.

      Nature is truly a force.

Snow appear to be seen from both sides the tared road…..with visible green grass nothing so dried out, no visible burns. Yet the volcanic activities burning down below is obviously affecting the tared road.
