Thankful he wasn’t wearing a hoodie, he probably would be making the 11:00 p. m. news, as another young black male statistics – shot and killed while shopping black, instead of reporting the news – sadly.

Now would Joy Reid cover this as a News story?

Kornacki covers LGBTQ issues and so have Dr Maddow and Roberts. Speaking out on Twitter is great. Confronting the issue on TV with those who regulate this matter is also a viable tool.

Thanks for the tweet summary, NerdyW – it gives me a quick overview of some of the topics I missed today. Will follow up by going backwards in a few minutes.

Back from my eye specialist with a ‘survey’ question – anyone here ever heard of an ‘ocular migraine’? Say ‘aye’ if you have. I got back earlier but was blurry-eyed and tired from the several drops I got, and also couldn’t get TOD to work properly after many attempts. Finally shut things down and waited for an extended bit of time………. and voilà!

So, ocular migraine, anyone, or was the eye specialist being creative like uknowho?

      July 18, 2014 at 8:34 pm

I know about it vc. you can go to the website MedlinePlus to look it up.

    • July 18, 2014 at 8:39 pm

Nope, ‘ocular migraine’ is a term for a specific set of symptoms. You can read all about it by googling it. What matters more than anything you’ll read is that you are care is being provided by a certified ophthalmologist which apparently your are, i.e., ‘eye specialist.’ Take care, VC.

      • 31 vcprezofan2
        July 18, 2014 at 8:56 pm

TY, Bfr. Yea, my ‘eye specialist’ is my fairly new ophthalmologist, but I don’t like terms involving migraine, so I didn’t want to actually see possible symptoms until I had bolstered my courage**. ;) I was FIRST diagnosed with migraine after a very scarey incident at work about 6 years ago, (have had a few incidents since then), and ever since, the very word gives me the shivers. So afraid of it am I, I actually always carry the medication on me, which is extremely unlike me. I hate medications!

**Speaking of bolstered courage, after surveying the TODvillage re the shingles medication I actually had the shot about a week and a half ago. Happy to report I had no after effects – only felt a stinging sensation as it was being administered – but nothing later. Unlike the tetanus shot which caused my arm to ache for DAYS and DAYS after!

        • July 18, 2014 at 10:07 pm

Take care, oh quiet one. And, do exactly what your specialist has advised.

          • 33 vcprezofan2
            July 18, 2014 at 10:12 pm

No fear, I won’t, Bfr. The very word ‘migraine’ is all that’s needed to make me acquiescent! ;) [Do I see a hint of quiet in there? ;) ;) ;) ]

Oh no, my bits are all still hanging in!
It’s just that the ophthalmologist threw a ‘new’ term at me this aft and I wondered if others here had heard it before. Specialist mentioned ‘ocular migraine’, while I thought migraine was all about the head.

                • July 18, 2014 at 10:24 pm

Ah, ok VC, hope you’re okay. “Ocular migraine” sounds nasty, although he could be Manchester United’s latest Dutch signing.

Hi Dr. Bob! I once told one of my brothers (also a vet) that I had diagnosed myself as having “retro-chronic-dyslexia”, a condition which causes me to look at the world upside down and sideways from time to time, (thinking I was being cute). He came right back and said, “sounds more like ‘rectal-occulitis’ to me”! :D ! I miss that guy.

    • July 18, 2014 at 8:47 pm

Yes, vc. It’s a symptom of a migraine that occurs with your vision. I’ve never had a migraine but I’ve had the ocular symptoms.

      • 45 vcprezofan2
        July 18, 2014 at 9:25 pm

I find your last sentence very reassuring, Meta. My original migraine came with lots of lights, like a kaleidoscope and was a very, very frightening experience that landed me in the emergency department having cat scans etc and blood pressure through the roof. As a result, as soon as I see a ‘light’ I start getting apprehensive.

Therefore the lights I’ve been seeing on and off lately have been a bit worrying as they didn’t come as fast as the migraine lights, but they seemed a bit similar in ‘look’. I tried to describe them to the eye specialist, which is when she threw this new term at me. Honestly, Meta, I wish I didn’t have to keep adding new terms to my lexicon (as I age….oops, I mean …mature). I don’t handle sickness, mine or anyone else’s, well.

It’s nice to check things out here with folks who can throw a non-threatening light on issues. The ophthalmologist did say ocular migraine doesn’t lead to migraine, per se, and she did give me 3 criteria for immediate action that were reassuring, but hearing of your experience is more meaningful to me. THANK you!

        • July 18, 2014 at 9:35 pm

You’re so welcome. I totally understand. The first time it happened to me, I was very freaked out. But it’s actually kind of a common situation. People describe various sorts of ocular experiences, some kaleidoscopic as you say, some like a mosaic, some with flashes off to the side, etc., etc.

My doctor was very reassuring. He said that they don’t really know what causes them but stress and lack of sleep can be triggers. I was going through a lot of both of those triggers at the time, so it rang true. I worked on forms of relaxation and sleep much better now. It really makes a difference.

          • 47 vcprezofan2
            July 18, 2014 at 9:42 pm

I would go along with the lack of restful sleep as one of my triggers, because I have those particular flashes mostly after ‘awakening’ some mornings. I’ve had my eye on the sleep issue lately as I’m sick of waking up so many times at night. Anyhoo, as I said, I feel encouraged, and am marching #FORWARD in good spirits! :) :)

I am just a little bit perturb right about now, and wondering; why do Democrats sabotage their chances for winning?

I was watching Reverend Al earlier, and Senator Barbara Boxer (think it was her because I was listening but not watching), and Democratic strategist Angela Rye were the guest. Boxer was saying all the right things about Democrats winning and taking the house. Rye had her chance to speak, and this is when I wanted to put my shoe in her mouth; well I disagree with the Senator, Democrats “will no”t take the house but they can gain some seats.

Why? Why do these individuals, who profess to be Dems, cannot for the life of them, choose to carry a winning message and stay on the same “positive” messaging? When people feel like there is no chance of winning, they simply say; well they said we can’t win so I’m not going to be bothered.

The lying repukes are notorious for staying on message, even when their messages are lies, and 99.999% are, they will crisscross the networks with the same lie. They lie loud, they lie long, they lie big, and they have no shame for just lying. Dems have a reason to be on the same page, “with the truth”, and we can’t seem to get it right.

Angela Rye should have been cheering the message on; I agree Reverend Al with the Senator, we have a chance of taking the House and keeping the Senate because Dems care about this country. Why is it so difficult for the Dems to carry out the same positive message?

We are not granted a lot of air time as the repukes are, and when we do get some time, it’s either some Dem going against the President, or debating if we can win with another Democrat.

Geesh, President Obama works his rear end off for a winning strategy, and a Dem will screw up things every time, even when it’s being handed on a platter. They (Dems) have probably given him more gray hairs than the repukes have.

We can win if we carry the same winning messages to the voters and get out and VOTE! It’s not complicated.

      July 18, 2014 at 9:05 pm

I agree with you Cindy. Our message should be We Are Winning. Things are actually looking better and better for us in 2014. Maybe some Dems are afraid of jinxing that.

        July 18, 2014 at 9:23 pm

        Happy Friday to you Vicki,
Hope that you are enjoying the evening.

It’s just so frustrating because people don’t get excited about midterms. I’ve heard Rendell, and I don’t know why Rev. always have him on the show, but he was singing the blues last week or week before last about the Dems can’t take the house and will struggle with keeping the Senate.

Hell, give people hope. President Obama goes out and give speeches, after speech, after speech, giving people optimism and hope. These jokers sit in front of the cameras and zap it away in minutes. Democrats care and repukes do not, and here is why we can win, and name the reasons.

Donna 4 obama, posted a tweet today that summed it up beautifully about the repukes, that’s the message right there for everyone to use. I just get frustrated because the President is working so hard, and handling the world crises simultaneously, and we can’t seem to get it right. Not all, but 1, 3, 5 or 10 not getting it right, is still too many.

Cindy, never, never, never believe one word Ed Rendell says on tv. He is not a friend of the president or of anybody else but himself and the Clintons, as far as I can see. His personal motive in downplaying 2014 is so Hillary can appear as a savior in 2016 when the cards are already stacked in favor of Dems. If you hear anyone announce that Rendell is a guest on their show, run, don’t walk, to your remote and switch the channel.

            You nailed it jackiegrumbacher.

Reverend Al introduces him as the best Democratic strategist and governor to asses 2014. I’m always in awe when he does this because the man is never positive. I do try to give Rev’s show support but it’s challenging with some of the guests he has on it.

I get it…..it’s all about Hillary and taking President Obama’s achievements and giving them to the Clintons.

            • July 18, 2014 at 10:48 pm

“…try to give Rev’s show support but it’s challenging with some of the guests he has on it.”

Agree with you Cindy. He’s PBO’s biggest supporter on air, but his guests are not friends of any of us. Think maybe Rev Al needs the twitter brigade on him?

      From Camp David?

I’m still sticking with my speculation that there’s a high-level conference there this weekend, though I’m usually 100% wrong.

I was right that the “immigration crisis” has taken a back seat to yesterday’s senseless slaughter #MH17.

Unless I missed her statements Mr.Bobfr, has Merkel said anything openly about Putin and MH17? What I heard today on the Ed S. and Rev. Al, is that the other leaders are not speaking out. So overwhelming, I am getting lost with what is current.
        Thanks,

        • July 18, 2014 at 9:17 pm

        • July 18, 2014 at 9:23 pm

Nothing yet that I’ve seen, Cindy. The scale of the crime and Putin’s inescapable role in it should be met with unambiguous condemnation. For that to occur, other than the blistering statements made by several UN Ambassadors during the UNSC today, requires that they all have the facts straight.

That’s why, I’m certain, President Obama is at Camp David, as to coordinate discussions as the vast amount of intelligence data is being analyzed.

Moreover, the obstruction of the process of retrieving human remains and other acts of evil by Putin’s thugs is only going to intensify the condemnation and actions against him.

Thank you so much. I leave to run errands, and upon returning, the news is all over the place. I hope that this is what is taking place at Camp David. Just the thought of those bodies in an open field causes me to cringe.

I keep thinking about the family members and friends who are hearing this on the news and seeing the pictures; knowing that their love one’s remains are scattered in a field. This is sinister and I pray that Putin and those involved will pay dearly. One day, they will have to stand and answer for their evil against humanity.

            • July 18, 2014 at 10:00 pm

The displays of inhumanity we are witnessing in Crimea, E Ukraine, Palestine, Syria, & Iraq all are enabled by the evil that is Russia and the ever-condoning China. If Russia and China stood with the US in the UNSC and globally, none of these massive tragedies would be happening and Iran would have long ago been nuke free.

Russia and China would have been significantly constrained had the US SCOTUS not conducted a coup d’etat in 2000 and had the American people been aware enough to have never elected Nixon & Reagan. The collective crimes of America in Vietnam, Iran-Contra, and Iraq did enormous damage to our global credibility.

President Obama is the first President since Eisenhower to challenge the MIC, to rebuff the war mongers, and to strive to establish moral authority.

We absolutely must #OWNthe114th because if we don’t, what we see now will be a mere preface to the horrors to come.

I so agree with your assessment Mr.Bobfr,

I don’t want to be paralyzed by fear; thinking of not owning114th has been in the back of my mind, because of the evils that will come with a lost. Every time I see pictures of Perry, Hannity and others with those oversized weapons, I always feel that they are telling us; in “our” America, this is how you will live – under the authority of our guns.

I am so thankful that President Obama is in charge during this period of world challenges, old man McCain would be bombing everyone at this time.

Life sure is strange. The one Irish person who died on the Malaysian flight was a woman from Palmerstown in Dublin, a stone’s throw from Ambassador Power’s home town of Castleknock. Kind of poignant, then, to hear Amb Power speak about the horror of it all.

    • July 18, 2014 at 9:10 pm

At one point, and possibly two, in Ambassador Power’s UNSC statements she nearly began crying … she is an exceptional person and, as I’ve stated more than once, I’d eagerly support amending the Constitution to enable her to run for President.

    • July 18, 2014 at 9:13 pm

      • July 18, 2014 at 9:17 pm

It’s amazing Meta, when I heard where the Irish woman was from I knew how close it was to Amb Power’s home, it’s the part of Dublin where most of my family lived too. Exactly, as you said, a twist of fate: two women of similar ages (Amb Power is younger), from exactly the same part of the world, Amb Power now speaking passionately about the tragedy that took the other woman’s life, and all those poor souls.

        • July 18, 2014 at 9:21 pm

It looks like it might just be to somehow help Fox out in purchasing TimeWarner.

So, who is this shithead, TBogg? Is that some ” aren’t I brilliant in my own mind” from DK? He/she is an ass. ( I was reading BJ )

Don’t read anything written by him, DF. He is exactly as you say–a snarky, emoprog who has his own blog, but also writes for Firedoglake. And “brillliant in his own mind” describes him perfectly. As long, as he’s writing for BJ, I’m not going there.

Oh my Goodness. Poor Woman. Lord, help her and her family to cope.

I can’t even imagine this kind of pain Nena20409,

I pray that she has friends and other family members with her; offering support and comfort. This is so tragic, losing both on airlines in such a horrific way for each one.

Yes, 99ts mentioned this on an earlier thread, and it was reported on CBS radio news this morning too.

Unbelievable. She must be going crazy now. Condolences to her and everyone affected by this unconscionable act.

PBO sure does surround himself with smart, competent, capable people. Takes my breath away. I am grateful.
