This is so heartbreaking it makes me want to weep for the level of inhumanity and barbarism to which so many countries are now descending. I have lost all respect for Israel. There is no possible explanation or justification for this carnage. This is a world gone mad.
And the missiles keep dropping on them Jackie, night after friggin’ night, and not a single voice in power speaks out for them.
I want to yell STOP, PLEASE STOP!
I find the inhumanity behind this staggering. How do they justify this unrelenting attack, and how can one side not hate the other when you have to deal with unending loss, unending war and unending fear and restriction of movement? It’s bound to kill something in you if you cannot be allowed to live and move and enjoy life.
Your comment, VC, solidified something I’ve been thinking for more than a decade and I managed to condense it to 140 characters ….
… doubt if it will ever matter, but the fact is these people have hated each other for so many hundreds of years that each generation emerges from the womb swimming in hatred. And, then they spend every single day waiting for the next IED or rocket or whatever to vaporize them.
It’s difficult to negotiate complex issues with folk who are whole, well rested, motivated to achieve a reasonable outcome. To expect folk suffering from chronic PTSD (when the ‘post traumatic’ part is constantly recycling due to yet another traumatic event) is totally out of touch with reality.
In many ways I agree with what Jim Wright most recently published at his blog. The only hope is that somehow, as in fact the Irish did, they decide to stop slaughtering each other. Once that decision is made, if ever, then everyone with a clue should recognize that it will take DECADES to ameliorate the societal and individual symptoms of PTSD.
Bob & vc, I said something like this a couple of threads back - where generation after generation passes the hatred on. Even here in LA at a protest, it was only a matter of time, when violence broke out - why?????
Bob, I am very moved by your wise and compassionate comment. I hadn’t even thought of the effect of PTSD. Your perspective would help many to understand. Thank you!

Question Bob. Having multiple adobe flash crashes now. Flash player is up to date (at least per FF). Any solution?
Buy a new computer?
PS I’m having those crashes too, so come on Bob: fix it for us.
If only you had sent me all the money (no, the real one) you owe me, I could afford to buy a new one.
Haven’t had that problem with Flash player on FF in quite a while, amk. I’d suggest you delete the application (and, any old versions you may still have on your hard drive) and then do a re-install of the latest version.
I am on FF 24.0. Tried the later ones but uninstalled them due to reduced customization options.

amk, I’m on 30.0 with zero problems with Flash. Have very few customization requirements as I primarily use FF merely to have several (as in a dozen or more) tabs open at the same time.

The world is a crazy place right now…What can the people of the world do to make those in power stop and take notice? What can millions of us do to make a statement? I say we choose a day to lock arms/ hold hands and make them hear us. No more . We’ve had enough. Can we make this or similar action, happen worldwide?
df, you mean something like that “we are the world” video where people linked hands around the world? Or was it the Coke commercial?
Well…something like that…yes. In communities big and small, countries all over the world do the same…we just all say, in unison, ENOUGH. How do we go about doing this?
Well, off the top of my head…our Congressmembers are off in the month of August, we could contact them to arrange a movement of this type, then put it on twitter like those rave parties are arranged, then notify the favorite radio stations and see what happens.
Just a rough idea…
All good ideas:) Let’s bring this up again tomorrow when more TOD’ers are awake and see how many more ideas we can add to this list. We have to do ALL of them, I think…to make this work.
