Glad to be home from rural Wisconsin where my family gathered for a memorial service for the 95 y/o patriarch. Missed you and your take on the troubling news of the week.

Judith – Sorry about your loss, and I’m glad you’re back home. Must have been a touching memorial.

It was a wonderful tribute to him, the last one standing of a big Swedish immigrant family who raised 7 kids in Chicago and Ephraim, WI. Oliver was my husband’s uncle and twin to my father-in-law.

    • July 24, 2014 at 11:30 pm

Lovely to have you back Judith, 95 years, what an extraordinary life!

He had a great life: born on the South Side of Chicago, went off to Carleton College with his twin, my father-in-law, earned his PhD in chemistry and had a storied career while raising 5 kids. Loved nature and traveling to the SW. Died in his sleep at 95.

My condolences Judith. But it must have been good too to see everyone you don’t get to see often.

Absolutely! One of the cousins did a slide show of family history in Sweden. The old homestead is being restored.

    • July 24, 2014 at 11:48 pm

Unfortunately it’s true that we often only see some relatives at funerals.

Sad, but living to 95 is a great achievement.

Speaking of Wisconsin, the guy in the video (in tweeted article) says he grew up in Wisconsin (now at the University of Alaska).

I posted this on the previous thread because the caption “Thawing footage starts at 3:10″ cracks me up, and Wisconsin gives me the chance to post again, LOL.

Yep – also amused by that caption. Enjoyed the billboard someone edited to say “We loathe Scott Walker” instead of love. Also amused by the bakery sign where we went for cherry pie: Bea’s Ho’ Made.

We lost an 88-year old cousin this past week. He had a traditional Christian funeral, but at the end the family and congregation sang “On Wisconsin” as the casket was rolled out of the church. He joined the Navy during WWII immediaty after high school graduatin in a small town in Wisconsin. When he returned after the war he went to UW-Madison on the GI-Bill and became a lifelong Badger fan. He would have loved our tribute!

We sometimes forget or overlook the reality that every individual represents a unique and particular “story”…

What a rousing ending for your cousin’s service! President Obama has taught us well the power of personal stories.

Forgot to cc: @MattMcElaney (first tweet on this thread) on my response to AP_Oddities.

I heard this report early today on the radio, and my first thought was “had to be a white guy.”

I’ve been in situations where white men have yelled at me and gotten out of their cars (this was at T-intersection at a red light when making a right turn — the guy apparently wanted me to cause an accident by pulling into oncoming traffic with the right of way).

  10. July 24, 2014 at 11:58 pm

    Love this!

I’m so glad that Father Boyle has succeeded in his battle with cancer, was very saddened when I heard his medical condition a few years ago.

I’m not Catholic, but he’s the type of person who truly has the best interests of young men at heart.

Since it’s an MSM article, they complain that WH doesn’t publish PBO’s detailed itinerary. My response: whining will not will you any friends.

Once, many years ago, I accidentally called someone “Houdini” at work…couldn’t quite remember her name which started with an “A”. Not one of my better moments…

I wanted to mention that we are doing something about Israel. Kerry is talking with Bibi which is probably testament to talking to a rock, we’ll see what happens out of this.

The Father Boyle story (posted upthread), is a perfect example of the bubble the MSM live in. It whines about reporters dying to know if President Obama had dinner with anyone last night because Josh Earnest didn’t really answer the question.

The MSM is more concerned about the President’s dining partners — which is fun to gossip about — while at the same time ignore what the President actually does.

After leaving LAX, the President’s focus was split at least three ways — Israel/Gaza, Ukraine/#MH17 and tomorrow’s meeting with Central American leaders.

And posted on the previous thread:

A retired Catholic priest followed me on Twitter. Made sure my next couple of R/Ts were about wholesome things. Once a Catholic school girl, always a Catholic school girl!

But too bad by tomorrow I’ll have forgotten all about my new follower! I apologize in advance, Father. Really.

    Teapiblicans got you down?
Locked in despair over the relentless lies, dirty tricks and evil deeds?
Worried about what we ought to do and whether we can do it and how it’ll be received? Who’s got money? What the poll says? Who’s gonna care?

    You need some medicine.
    You need some knowledge.
    You need some inspiration.

Got it right here for you!
Listen to this! All of it…
    I said *** ALL OF IT ***
    I’m not freakin’ kidding!

    NOW LET’S GET TO WORK!!!

[drops the mic; vaporizes that sucker with a laser beam glare; struts off with a righteous quickness]

“Weeping may endure for the night, but JOY comes in the morning!”
      Ms. Dudette, ALL OF IT!
I am totally inspired, invigorated and in awe!
And I have not been for my early morning walk, yet.
I will be making plans to go to N.C. real soon.
Thank you from the bottom of my satisfied soul for this….thank you!

      Thanks Dudette

I watched the whole thing and he is amazing. The moral reconstruction movement is truly grass roots and needs to move across America like those AZ dust storms.

Dudette, thanks so much for posting this. Here at TOD, we know we have to pitch in to move politics above the snake line.
