Opinion: Blacks shouldn’t be fooled by Rand Paul
// Over the past few months, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., has been traveling across the country, speaking to African-Americans in urban communities, pitching himself and the GOP’s ideas. He thinks the GOP’s ideas are in our community’s best interest, and today he’s in Cincinnati to speak at the National Urban League Conference to try his spin out yet again.
While I applaud anyone’s efforts to reach out to the black community and share ideas that would improve our families’ lives, Paul doesn’t understand a very important piece of the puzzle: earning our trust. For Paul to claim to stand up for our values while opposing policy after policy that advances our community is not the way to do this. Paul’s long and troubled history with civil rights issues is generally well known around Kentucky and in Washington, D.C., but for many Ohioans, it’s time to take a closer look.

Morning everyone! Morning hopefruit! RM did a segment on this very topic last night, as well. Showed him FLAT OUT LYING about the VRA and the Civil Right Act and his stance….then she FLAT OUT called him a LIAR. Priceless. It was must see TV.

Can’t link to the exact segment - but Rand Paul is now lying - he said “on the record” that he did not think the civil rights act should relate to private organizations. i.e. Woolworths can have their “whites only” lunch counter.
Yet Rand Paul says he is for the civil rights act, says he has never been against it - and is receiving press for what he says now.
I don’t think the black community will be fool by Rand Paul, we have seen many wolves in sheep clothing before.
He is out there fooling the media Annie - hopefully more will listen to the black community and call him out.

A beautiful Saturday morning from Montana. This week the weather has been wonderful, rain, cool and just right. Not sure what that means. Next week to be in the 90’s again. We have had company all week so has been great taking them around. Next week no company.
I am quite concerned about what is happening in MT with John Walsh. Afraid we might get Repub, corrupt Daines for our Senator. Walsh said he had PTSD during that time. That’s the only explanation so far. I love MT but it is a very purple state. It is so frustrating.
So thankful for our President and our SOS Kerry. They are a force for peace. Have a great Saturday.

I have no idea until this AM that the 4 little girls killed when a bomb went off in their Church is the same equivalence as kids migrating from 3 Central American Nation in the Thousands while the US gov’t is feverishly trying their level best to care for them. The Girls in AL were Killed. No one today has Died under US care of the 50K plus kids.
I don’t usually complain about MPH. She has her own issues and her own agenda. She is conflating issues. Nerds, at least the Nerds in my family are fact based and intellectually Honest relatives. What MHP is doing today is nothing, but intellectually dishonest. Funny how Mexico is never mentioned in this equation or other neighboring nations. What have they been doing? How do their effort influence this?
I don’t mind those who want to go after pres Obama when merited. But the knee-jerk senseless diatribe is not only tiresome, it has a delusional pathology to it.
I don’t remember hearing any attack on the President that had merit - most that may appear to have merit relate to PBO facing political reality (e.g. single payer health care).

been meaning to comment about this, and hopefruit’s point about the charlatan rand paul reminded me to do it-
it seems there’s been a directive that’s gone out from the real controllers of the republican party to tone down THE CRAZY they stoked, and bring back their “compassionate conservative” lie. i first thought this when in one week, several times, i was seeing people at various places say things such as, “wow, glen beck was really pushing back against that teebagger,” or, “meagan kelley really took it to that teebagger!” and so on. then sociopath beck pulls stunts with the immigrant children in horrendous situations and his photo ops get him tons of positive coverage and comments all over the news and political sites. it was weird to see so much of that out of the blue, as if the last several years of these same people being absolutely, utterly, and i think clinically, INSANE, 24/7, 365 days/year.
now we have paul ryan being fluffed up again by “the news” as some sort of expert on poverty issues, just as they did when he had a 2 page school report of talking points that was called the “paul ryan budget” and “the news” called him a budget expert. and rand paul’s been trying to project some false image of caring for people in urban areas, and he gets mentions such as, “regardless of what one thinks about his remedies, at least he’s trying to do something about the problems,” which they’ve also been doing for paul ryan and glen beck. THEY ARE LYING! they really do not care about helping disadvantaged people. their one goal is to dismantle the social safety net and get more money into the hands of the koch brother types, and mitt rmoney’s 5 sons, so that they can “trickle down” help upon these communities, that is if they feel like it and are in a generous that particular day to donate cash to a nonprofit, otherwise screw it, let’s go vacation in tahiti next month! and meanwhile, as always, president barack obama and many democrats are the only ones offering and implementing real answers to help solve these generations-long problems, and are already helping millions RIGHT NOW improve their futures, and the same “news people” ignore or belittle them.
we need to stop this immediately, since we know “the news” will incessantly be promoting this “compassionate” lie and covering up all their actions, day in and day out, that prove it’s just words and lies. thank god for the internet so we can fight back in ways we couldn’t before.

i remember when rand paul was on her show several years ago (the ONE time), and she was fair and calm in her questioning of him, and he folded like a cheap card table, and has been going on and on about how oppressed he was by maddow. what a whiny, little baby of a man this liar is! compare her questioning to how any fox “news” person treats any liberal on their shows. crazy.

I agree with Dr Maddow. I just wish, perhaps also, Dr Maddow should sit Kornacki down and some at MSNBC on Rand Paul for Kornacki on particular has puff pieces all the time about Rand Paul.

Dr. Maddow has Kornacki fill in for her. She should make it clear that he not do those puff pieces on TRMS since she is not a fan of Rand Paul.
I agree with your excellent description of the media’s attempts to have “tea Party Repubs” appear more “compassionate”. Luckily, the only people that will be fooled by this is the libertarians from the left, who were supporting him to begin with.

Re: What is happening in Libya is what is likely to happen in a tribal/warrior society when a dictator is either taken out (Iraq) or overthrown (Libya and Egypt). There will be fighting among tribes and/or factions until one becomes strongest. Iran is actually more advanced than such societies as they’ve developed an early traditional society.
At Lunch yesterday, I said that N. Korea would soon be acting up. It never fails.
Unfortunately, it took less than 24 hours. And here it is.
I predict that after Nov midterms, the US media’s sudden interest in reporting of international conflict will plummet as quickly as it spiked this summer/fall.

And yet, he is campaigning in black districts for votes?
