    I loved seeing these pictures. At my college we have students from Burkina Faso, Swazliland, Cabo Verde, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Kenya. Good for me to see their chief executives, The Burkina Faso students speak French, the Cabo Verde speak Portuguese….lovely students.

      Oh, I forgot Senegal….we have students from there too. They also speak French. Our French professor used the Burkina Faso and Senegalese students as tutors for French.

      Despite all the ugliness in the world, our President keeps highlighting what matters most, the fact that majority of people on this planet are filled with compassion and an urgency to build a better future for humanity.

    • August 6, 2014 at 7:54 am

      You know what Carolyn, what amazes me about Africa is that the 54 sovereign countries on the continent of Africa speak a multiplicity of languages. As a result of European colonialism, many African countries speak English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian. And because of the spread of Islam in the 7th and 8th centuries, Arabic is also spoken widely, and especially in North Africa, but also in parts of West and East Africa. On top of that, there are thousands of indigenous African languages that ordinary people communicate in on a daily basis. Of all the continents, Africa is the most multi-lingual continent. It’s true that Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.) are not spoken in Africa. But I am sure that with the increasing Chinese investments in Africa, pretty soon Africans will be speaking Chinese. On the other hand, very few people in Europe, Asia and the Americas speak any African languages.

      why would ‘global conditions’ be against dems?

        August 5, 2014 at 11:52 pm

        Exactly; good question…and goes back to my point about the international conflicts being used by GOP, MSM and far-left to stir up anger against PBO and the Dems, just in time for the midterms.

      • August 6, 2014 at 1:24 am

        I think he’s talking about statistical markers, off year election of second term, red state history, etc.

    • August 6, 2014 at 1:26 am

      On the up side, Sam Wang, who has the best record in the business, better than Nate Silver, has Dems keeping Senate control at 60% probability based on actual polls.

      G’night VC! I kinda like the two concurrent. Kinda spices things up a bit. :-)

      Nite, nite, sweet dreams! We were all fired up on that last one, not quite done there yet! Very spicy, indeed, downright zippy!

        Hmmmm. You have me wondering WHAT you were drinking before signing on – first you’re showing off your hip huggers and white boots, next you’re talking fired up and zippy! Hmmmm.

        Hope your Wednesday will bring the real you! ;)

    Well I am sorry we only got to hear one song from Lionel Richie, I hope everyone else enjoy the evening. I enjoy seeing POTUS and FLOTUS host dinners like this. I am also glad to see that they will be going on their August vacation soon.

    Well, I hope this is not a preview of things to come. Tonight in our primary, 99,162 Republican votes cast, and 84,741 Democratic votes. Also a proposition I was not fond of passed.

    These photos are so fun to look at. I’m having a kick reading the body language — which couples are holding hands, which one’s seem like they can’t stand each others. One wife is standing so far away her husband, it’s like she’s whispering to FLOTUS under her breath “please rescue me, I was wish to request asylum…” A few of the ladies REALLY wanna be best buds with our FLOTUS. :-)

    Whoa, that young lady from Rwanda with her Dad is towering about POTUS and FLOTUS! :-D

    Chips, great choice for the photo you chose here – coz the stories about the President of Senegal are mostly positive ;

    PBO and FLOTUS must be exhausted at the end of these evenings!

    good thing is that given how much PBO & MO are loved on the continent, probably all the African countries whose leaders where at this summit and dinner will give good press coverage – soft power & good will towards the US;

    even in those countries whose leaders were not invited to the summit, the opposition media (where it exists) will cover these events;
